I lived for 33 years with my husband who chased the consumer dream for himself. Boats, yacht club, working all hours.Paying one credit card with another one. I on the other hand never wanted that lifestyle. i was content with my books, my friends and my dog. One day he came and said that I was not the kind of woman he wanted. He wanted someone like himself. He divorced me and married a woman who is like him. I do not know if he is happy, but I hope so. I moved from a custom home to a former crack den in a rough part of town. It was truly an awful place, run down and very dirty. My friends and I cleaned and painted it. We had parties on Sunday afternoons filled with good food and laughter. I was the happiest I had ever been in my life. All of my worldly possessions fit into the back of a mini van. I buy as little as possible and I know the real value lies in being kind, loving and helpful. I try to live lightly on the Earth, to me She is sacred. Blessed Be.
Thank you for sharing. So glad you found your way and happiness after your divorce. Glad you are content with what you have and can share with and help others. Much love, Justine and Michael. 💚
A fewyears ago i discovered that i am most happy when living simply- i live in new england and heat, cook, and bake exclusively with wood - in the summers, i cultivate gardens on my land, and take long walks, and swim in the ocean. I walked away from an incredibly toxic corporate position last year and now work part time- it has been so nice to just slow down - and truly enjoy each moment- sending thoughts of peace and love to all- Blessed Be
I totally agree and can absolutely relate. I was a Quantity Surveyor for 20 years working 50 hours a week. I gave up my job 2 years ago and work part-time now. Never been happier. I can survive on very little and still be happy. The most enjoyable thing is to slow down and just watch the world go by!
Thank you for sharing a bit of your personal experiences and decisions. Sounds great. We are glad you found a way to live simple, slow down, etc. Wishing you many more happy and content days. Much love, Justine and Michael. 💚
Sounds a bit like me - I'll be retiring shortly at 60, with only a small modest pension, but I've simply had enough of my work environment and the toxicity of the workplace. I've put money in the bank too often before my own well-being, but now, it's time to put myself first and try not to worry about money - things always work out
Three years ago my husband divorced me, after 47 years of marriage, leaving me without a home or the potential to get a home. I bought a camper. I can’t have a garden. I can’t build a shed to store “things” in. I have what fits inside this camper and it’s enough. In fact, from time to time I find more things I can live without. There are times when I weep, worrying about the future, but I have a little talk with myself. A pep talk. And then I put one foot in front of the other and continue on. When I need money I take a seasonal job as a Workamper somewhere. My life feels so rich. In this little space I have all I need. The Reflections of Life videos are wonderful. When I have access to some internet, I watch them as if my heart is starved. Thank you for making them.
So touching what you share. Sorry to read about the divorce, we are glad you have a 'home' and feel comfortable and content; that you have what you need. And may you always be provide with what you need. We are glad our videos give you much and fill your heart again. Nice to have you with us on our journey. Sending much love and kindness to you. Justine and Michael. 💚
When you are fearful, remember that fear is the inverse of faith. If you can believe that what you fear can easily come true, so can it's opposite - grace and abundance. When God/the Universe/Infinite Intelligence is your bank account, there is an infinite supply of all you need. Trust and believe and your worries (including financial ones) will disappear like morning mist.
@Daniel S - And so true, isn't it. Glad that you enjoyed this film. And be sure to keep subscribed to our channel so that you don't miss any of our new releases - brand new film out every single Wednesday.
That is such deep truth. I have a family member who recently passed away, working hard ‘for his retirement’ all his life, he died the year he retired because of stress...
@@ReflectionsofLife it really doesn't have to be "so true" It's only true for those who make those choices. I know many many people who get to enjoy the beautiful simple pleasures while simultaneously enjoying the freedom that comes with having money. It's really not an "either/or" scenario. You could choose both.
not only did I spend decades in a hostile work environment I put off my retirement yes I am blessed to have money to pay my bills but we are also living during a pandemic wish I had gotten out sooner
Life is so uncomplicated when you keep it SIMPLE! Old house, old car, no cell phone, no money left over in the middle of the month. Food in my belly. Peace and quiet! THANK YOU CREATOR!
Thats Nirvana. Im 65 and if i hit the lottery for 25 millions dollars my life would not change that much. I dont want to travel. I dont want a bigger house. Dont want big toys like boats and all of the other stuff. Im so set in my ways.
@@minirajan2661In this society, yes. You need at least some land with a good enough shelter and good enough soil and climate to produce food. And even then you will need some money for what you can't produce yourself. But not much.
I’m at the end of my life, with heart and kidney failure, and my illness started 3 1/2 years ago. When I realized I wasn’t going to live to long, I started to go through a lot of changes about how I see life. I spent so many years trying to collect stuff and make more money, now I see that what I was doing was taking me away from the real joy in life. I thought I was doing what I was suppose to do, that’s what I learned as an American. Now, the joy is in every small thing, my son, nature, the relief of loosing the feeling I need more, instead, I enjoy and feel greateful for what I have. I can’t look back now and think about what I didn’t do, that doesn’t help, but now I’m living more in the time I have left, then all the years I was chasing the dollar and stuff. I believe the disease of wanting more in America is what is killing it’s soul. I live in Egypt now, around a lot of poverty, and these people have taught me how to be greateful for every small thing I have, and still be happy. At first living around poverty put me in shock, and I use to think these people have nothing, yet they are always smiling, what’s wrong with them. Now I learned their secret, I went so far to learn this, and now there are not many people I connect with from my own country, they think I’m crazy, LOL
What a story, Fatma. We are truly sorry that you are not well and your health is deteriorating. But through all of it you seemed to have found something very special. May these experiences help you every day, may you have peace and contentment about the circumstances you find yourself in. Enjoy every moment of life, the smiles of the people around you. Much love, Justine and Michael. 💚
It is a sad statement on our society and it is unfortunate that most of us, as you have, discover this so late in life. For myself. I found that traveling to places outside of my sphere, helped me discover the joy that so many have and who do not chase after this materialistic dream endlessly.
We have the corporations and people like Edward Bernays to thank for it, but they could not do it if people would refuse to fall for it. People need to get smart and wake up. There’s a great documentary on it called “Century of the Self.” It’s here on TH-cam.
Commercialism .....fuiled by social media.......stoking narcissism sky high... What really matters .....kindness, sharing, giving back, enriched souls, good morals, going green.....putting wildlife and nature before ourselves ..... avoiding fashion, trends, competitive nature ....... living with minimal posessions, decluttering enriches the soul. ...... mindfulness....all potent stuff
I live on a corner lot in a small rural town. I’m married to my childhood sweetheart who I’m still madly in love with.....I have four dogs that love me, a son who calls everyday just to chat....I garden because it’s the dream of my life to garden....our house is small and we don’t owe anything on it.....I am living the life of my childhood dreams....I am truly blessed and I know it. Everyday has simple, glorious, gifts and I am grateful for them all.
I was a single mom for 17 years with 2 kids. I chose to be a stay at home mom. No child support. I home schooled my kids and was an artist who also took odd jobs. Being with my kids, doing simple things, gardening, and playing with them was my priority. NO REGRETS ❤
I'm living 6 pack to 6 pack. I also support a few single moms, a few college graduates , some illegal immigrants and some disabled fakers down the street. It isn't easy but I keep pulling the cart.
Every time I think I'm a total weirdo and feel lonely in my desire to live a simple, beautiful, contemplative life, I come across one of your videos and remember, "Oh that's right, I am not alone!" There are many of us aimed at or doing the same thing. Thank you for collecting our experiences so we know about each other.
Love this! We're so glad to hear that you choose to come here, to watch our films, and that you find a sense of connection. Warmest of hugs. Justine and Michael. 💚
It’s so nice you mentioned your house too. So many (Americans) say they’re debt free, yet they must forget their house isn’t theirs if they’ve got a mortgage. I’m thrilled for you! I’m en route to just this too :)
Some people want expensive cars, exclusive clothes and big houses, others want a small home far away from these people. I am one of them. It warms the heart to see this film and those who contributed.
@@redrustyhill2Naturally it does. Upside is that you get to eat proper, good, natural own grown food instead of s*it they charge you handsomely for in city. If you live in sunny warm part of the world, get some solar panels and skip overcharge from power companies. Then there is closeness to nature and mother Earth, MUCH less stress and noise. You get to do your own things in your own tempo and a ton of other things that are just too long winded to put in here. And I say that after living in big 1+ million people city for almost 40 years.
@elvirredzepovic6898 i live very rural, grow most my food. Probably should look into solar and wind power but those things take considerable up front money.
@@redrustyhill2They do, you are absolutely correct but they do start paying them self back within 5 years or so. That being said, you do not need to go all in directly. Small scale is how I am contemplating it, like few lights here and there, maybe a pump (if you have one) could be run of the solar. Those sorts of things. Going full house and replacing your roof with solar is VERY pricey right now no doubt.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. We are so happy that the messages the various people shared resonated with you deeply. Much love, Justine and Michael. 💚
I'm blessed to have never valued materialism, consumerism, commercialism...I have always delighted in the simplicities of life, the priceless beauty, and for that, I am grateful.
@@keziasarahthis is so freaking true, when i cant go to work because i can't get up from a lower back injury my boss thinks its just a psychological issue, from that time on i became selfish at work

I love this! I am a single mom of four adorable boys and I am practicing minimalism for 6 years now and counting, it really change my life. We live in a tiny house in a farm and I am working from home.

At 66 I am debt free. I live a simple life, i have one chair. I eat whole foods as much as I can. I know I am individualized from a whole, sent here to learn how to manipulate energy. When I need it comes. If I want I make a effort and it comes. Thank you for this life. Be grateful to get more good.
This connects me right back to my deceased parents, uncles, aunts, grand parents, all of whom grew up with very little money. I have such happy memories of the warmth, kindness, laughter and great values shared by those people who lived through WW2. My father taught at Universities in Eastern and Central Africa for years. Fondest memories of those times, we knew the riches of contentment without feeling any pressure to acquire and display trappings of wealth. I tried to fit in with London life for years, but I struggled with the insincerity and greed of it all. No longer in London but still see through the pathetic attempts to control the masses. Snacks, biscuit and alcohol aisles in supermarkets, for a start. Anti-depressant medications from the GP given out like sweets. The best thing we can do is try to pass to our children on a sense of what really matters. And relay stories about the grandparents.
Spot on..same here I fled London over ten years ago to the mountains in central Italy, I live on very little money from a couple of English lessons I give to kids in the nearby village but.not always, like one week I make 15 euros, another nothing! I have no car or a washing machine or hot running water or central heating, my trusty wood stove does all the cooking, heating water for washes and heating my small very old stone house...I grow food, keep chickens, forage and barter with some small organic farms here..I will never go back to my old life, never. Lovely to hear your story. Hugs to all
It's true that we don't need fancy homes and expensive cars, but try living on the streets eating at the mercy of strangers, and you realize that money is important. The real miracle is not letting it consume you.
Absolutely agree with you - money has become integral to our modern day lives - to provide a roof over our heads, food on the table, medical care, etc. The question is rather, how much is enough? So many people chasing more and more and more, in excess - when really, they already have what they need to be truly comfortable and content. It's about finding the balance, it shouldn't consume us as you wrote. Sending you warm hugs. Justine and Michael.💚
It's true. Life is all about finding the balance. For some people, a lot is never enough. No matter how much they have, they crave more. It's basically mental illness. Because it steals the heart of your soul...
People should have money for food, water, clothing, and shelter. The rest of your money was paid for with time that could be better used experiencing life. Just my opinion. But I understand the sentiment.
D S In the spirit of this channel let’s respect others freedoms and beliefs and what brings them joy. I’m not religious but if @Patricia Garrett is happy I’m happy for her. We don’t need more judgment and division in this world.
Well said. God is real. As real to me as the chair I'm sitting on. It breaks my heart that so many don't see that he is alive and is crazy in love with them. He waits to be wanted.
I have a small business of my own, allowing me to work from wherever I want, how many hours I want more or less, and take out a decent pay, enough for a vacation in the summer and to feed and clothe my two small kids. Having time to go to the daycare with my son pick him up without gasping for air on the way over and take a day in the middle of the week off just because I feel like it, to me that's freedom money can't buy. I don't care for expensive stuff or buying clothes every 5 minutes. Time with the ones you love and living without stress, that's what it should all be about. Oh, and I almost forgot my dog!, who gives me company during the days and takes me out every morning. Wish you all the best out there.
Beautiful thoughts and experiences, thank you for sharing. We are so glad that you can put emphasis on your children, spend time with them and your dog. It's definitely about finding the right balance. All the best and happy times further. Much love, Justine and Michael. 💚
I was a child refugee back in the 90s, war destroyed my hometown, country, genocide… a lot of loss. We made it out and for years we had to live completely minimally. We were considered poor. Now I’m not poor, I’m an adult living a pretty comfortable life, but let me tell you two things… 1. That poor season of my life with my mother and my siblings, and other people we’ve met in our journey to safety in freedom was the sweetest part of my life. Sure there was uncertainty, danger too, but the bonds we created with each other just to survive made those times beautiful. I remember how little we had to eat, had to wear donated clothes, moved around a lot, but it was somehow the best part of my life. Life was so simple when we had nothing but each other. A bowl of plain spaghetti hit different when you’re starving than now when I can have anything I want. And 2…. No matter what happens in today’s economy, no matter how the world decides to fall apart, it doesn’t scare me one bit to go without again. There is no fear of me only eating a plain bowl of spaghetti. There’s no fear in wearing others ppl clothes, not having furniture… Through my struggle as a child, I learned an important lesson to put faith and love into my family first and foremost. We don’t need much when your family is strong and bound in a way I feel many families of today would fall apart should the world situation take an ugly turn. Living modestly and simply = freedom. You’re not OWNED by desires. And that’s where liberation comes from.
Thank you for sharing such a deeply powerful reminder about what really matters in life. For you to carry these experiences and learnings forward with you in your own life is precious. And we're grateful to you for sharing this here with us. Much love and kindness to you. Justine and Michael. x
❤❤ today, I found reading at 65. I had lived my life and realized I could of done so much more, but reading is my new hobby. I plan to write one day, but life is a journey . I learned to read at 28 years old…. What a life.
What a beautiful life indeed. It is so wonderful to hear that you continue to learn and grow, to challenge yourself. And we are cheering you on - write that book - share your story with the world! Sending love. Justine and Michael. x
How wonderful for you! I hope that, over time, you will read through that Book of books, the Bible (New King James Version is a good translation). So much of literature has its basis in those amazing pages. Its vocabulary will also help you become a polished writer.
Starting today, write down three things you are grateful for on each and every day. Soon you will have written a wonderful book. Now you are already a writer. 👍💚
This is my favorite verse in the Bible, spoken to me few years ago. I pulled out my kids from school and homeschooled them, relationship with Jesus Christ and family is very important for me.
We paid off our house very fast by living very frugally. I told my husband we were buying our freedom. We had all the important stuff and we and the kids were happy. Now we can comfortably afford to spend more, but don’t, because it’s not important enough to us. We have our freedom.
Loved reading this. To hear that you and your family chose to prioritise freedom about monetary wealth - that's wonderful. It's all about finding the right balance, and it certainly sounds like you've managed to do just that. Very inspiring. Sending love to you all. Justine and Michael 💚
For those who are on their journeys towards a debt free life, remember that this message still applies to us. I spent years just surviving on the journey towards debt pay off. I just started to wind down my intensity. The debt will take a little bit longer to pay off, but at least I get to spend time with my husband and child. If you have a choice (I understand what it's like to not have one) , try not to let debt pay off consume you. It will eat at your spirit.
Thank you. I'm currently on my debt free journey and it has consumed me. Every day calculating and budgeting. Stressing because I want to be debt free ASAP. I have just decided to have a plan and stick to it. The years will go by and in no time I won't owe a bank anything 🙏.
I think a lot of the anger in the US is because so many of us have an abundance of “stuff” and yet feel angry because they have not found happiness in it. They have been “sold a bill of goods,” and are left empty. They are pissed because the “dream” is an empty shell.
I see this over and over again cause every time I see and hear it reminds me of the true values in life and helps me to remind myself that money is not the one which is going to matter during the last days of life....it's the moments and memories that's gonna bring the smile and happiness to me. Thank you for creating such a movie, sometimes we really need an eye opener like this which will inspire us to just pause and reflect on what we are running after in life.
@Sanjith Sathinadhan - I am so glad to hear that this little story could serve as a gentle reminder to you. Sometimes that's all we need - just a little reminder about what matters. It's so easy to get lost in the world of consumerism. But we don't need to let it take over. Much kindness to you on your journey. And big respect!

As someone who has been struggling with the concept of insatiability, this video hit home. Society will always tell me that I'm unsatisfied because modern society runs on consumerism but I am finally at the point where I have everything I could possibly need and that's enough, for me. Greed and consumerism are destryoing earth as we know it. The two best fulfilling choices I ever made was veganism and minimalism many years ago. Peace for all of humanity!
Thank you, and simple is best I have found. Being stationed overseas in the seventies my wife and I had one small room, a teeny tiny bathroom and no car, but a bicycle and were so incredibly happy. Came back to the States and did nothing but work two full time jobs for decades and was miserable. A miracle happened and I was broken in every area of my life. Thought it was the worse thing in the world and it turned out to be the best thing, a blessing in disguise. We only have social security and it's less than thirteen grand a year but we're peacefull and thankfull to be a giving part of life. Thank you
So wonderful to hear that, from what appears to be a tragedy upfront, can truly turn into a blessing. We send you much love and kindness. To you and your wife. Justine and Michael 💚

Money is just driving everyone in the world mad about getting more. It is like an insatiable thirst. We are destroying nature because of that thirst when we could just share evenly and acquire only what we need.
Yes I’ve found I don’t need as much stuff as I used too. Not buying into the materialistic world is very freeing. Make do and mend. What they taught in the war years.

This is what I aspire to be in my life. I'm 23 years old and all of these pressures, competitions and personal branding thing makes me feel like I never enough, I always devaluate myself because I often compared myself with what other people have achieved. I always try to want a lot of wealth, trying to catch up other's accomplishment, but I'm not happy, I feel empty, sad and even lonely. So, thank you very much Green Renaissance for enlightening me and inspiring me. I am very grateful to find this channel. Truly.💚
Young one, you're the same age as my nephew is now. I hope you're still around on TH-cam. I hope you have found peace. I'm 38. Please be wise with the way you spend your money. Do not waste it on brands or new tech that will be replaced by new brands and new tech. Don't waste it on a new car or truck, get something reliable from 5-10 years ago. Save for land, even if it's only an acre on the edge of a big city you love. Build a home on it for cash, even if it's a tiny home or manufactured home. Develop your independence and self-reliance outside of what social media and society throws at you. Learn to grow your garden, even if it's only a few plants. Learn to fix things, even if you fail the first time, the internet provides a wealth of free knowledge. Ignore your peers, have mercy and pity on them because they allowed themselves to be caught up in consumption. This is the advice I would have given myself at 23.
My young friend Please don’t put so much pressure on yourself. Give yourself time to think about what is important to you, your true self. I became a nurse because I was pressured into thinking I would always have a job. I wanted to be a music therapist, I loved music. I found joy in sharing music with others. I didn’t want to perform, but use 10:30 music to help people find peace and introduce music to children. I always had a job in nursing but I never liked it, it didn’t fit my personality. I did my very best to take good care of my patients. I totally burned myself out, working a high stress job, subsequently not the person/ mother I wanted to be. My biggest regret in life is not living my authentic self but submitting to the pressure of society, family and money. You are so young, your goals will change but always remain true to your self. I wish you love and peace
John Lennon said it, Imagine no possessions I wonder if you can No need for greed or hunger A brotherhood of man Imagine all the people Sharing all the world Love this verse
I agree with everything here. But I caution one thing: without financial savings, once you retire and your body ages, your health can take sudden, unplanned turns. So please, when you are young, set aside the money you save by choosing not to go to the coffee shops every day or whatever is your temporal pleasure, and bank this savings. My husband quit smoking and our reward was: what we saved paid for our vacations. We have had wonderful vacations that we are becoming less able to do. We both had meaningful jobs or were self-employed, no debt for many years and have a good retirement fund. It is all about "balance" with simple pleasures. The biggest hope this video brings is that it is never too late to start.
Thank you for sharing all your thoughts, experiences and ideas, we appreciate it. Glad you saw value in what was shared. We definitely need money in our modern day lives - to provide a roof over our heads, food on the table, medical care, etc. But the question is, how much is enough? Just a message to the young ones watching this. That smith shop, that farm, that house from the elderly man, all of this is very expensive. So, living a simple life takes a lot of effort, the message is, work hard and spend your money well.
It is so true, that money has become integral to our modern day lives - to provide a roof over our heads, education for the children, health care. The question to ask is... how much is enough? Right, this video kinda makes no sense. It took money to obtain all those things they have and they are not cheap. Can’t live simply from zero. But I do agree on living a more simplistic life. I now work in high tech and plan to retire to a minimalist lifestyle. Materialistic stuff does not matter to me.
@@lonestrtgr55 I think it makes sense because a lot of people never stop chasing. There is a time to stop. I'm just in the process to figure out how to make a living with less, because leaving my job for another one that pay less doesn't make sense. I love woodworking but I don't see ends meet at this moment.
@@lonestrtgr55I don’t understand anyone to say that you don’t need money to live, or to achieve your goals. The question is “how much is enough for me to be happy.”? And to not be consumed by the desperate chase for status and “more, more, more”. Finally, everyone has their own path. Circumstances allow some to have more money than others. Another point here is that we can be happy with what we have. Of course, if you are sick and suffering, or living on the street, or a drug addict, this is very hard. But these videos do not pretend to solve every problem.

A no doubt familiar story for all of us! Work, work, work! I have worked regularly 80+ hours a week for most of my life. I am now 58 year of age, I am a teacher! It is the best job in the world and also the worst! Keeping the mind 'tame' is the key to a happy life, knowing when to accept the 'downs' without becoming down and accepting the highs without becoming 'euphoric!' What is enough? Depends on your time of life! Judgement is prejudice in disguise. When you can accept and love yourself you will accept and love all!
Less is more....declutter your life, and it enriches and quietens the soul. Let go of competitiveness, life is not meant to be a game of vanity and pride ......life is all about nurturing, appreciating, caring, sharing, respect and love . Leave the earth, its wildlife and natural life in the way that you found it , dont destroy or damage it.
Yes, Yes, Yes!! What collective wisdom. And what an important and inspiring message for our times. Inspires me to re-examine and reimagine my own life and choices. Beautiful. Thank you!

"Happiness is simplicity, the less i have the happier i am, it's a lot less to worry about" wow, that hit home, what an incredible outlook to have on life, this person will always be rich
I will take abundance over scarcity any day of the week. I live in a country where water is somewhat abundant but I still need to buy bottled to get the unpolluted, no fluoride, chlorine free stuff !
I watch and listen to this film and I’m re focussed and energised each time.. I have to be reminded time and again about the beauty of simple living and the dangers of mindless consumerism.. Thank you for enriching my life with these wonderful people
I love this! I have downsized and embraced minimalism in 2021 when my mother got really sick. We stayed in the hospital for about a month, and I only had a backpack with me with only necessities. I realized I didn't need a lot of things, and most of the stuff I had back home were things that didn't matter so much at all. All that was truly important was the person in front of me and that I was there with her. Since then, I've let go of a lot of things and focused on what was essential.
What an incredibly powerful and precious lesson, to carry forward with you from what must also have been a difficult time in your life for you. Your mother is lucky to have had you right there, by her side, through the illness. May you continue to move forward through your life, remembering what truly matters most. We send you much love. Justine and Michael x
I can’t believe I have just found this blog. It’s wonderful. Nature makes me happy. To live in the country, and hear the country sounds. To watch my plants grow and feed the birds. I have lived a very long life and it is good to reflect.
@carol King - We are so glad that you've found our films Carol. I think that you will find that many of these stories resonate with your way of life. Enjoy watching them. And keep tuned in because we are also working on many more new films that we'll keep sharing regularly. Justine x
The most important thing you can do to make sure you enjoy your retirement is to WORK OUT, EAT HEALTHY, STAY IN SHAPE, DONT BECOME OVERWEIGHT. That’s what I did since my 20s. Now, at 70 years old, this old woman is still working out, going camping, hiking the state parks, kayaking, so much fun. I have an amazingly wonderful life and I have minimal things. BUT I HAVE HEALTH, STRENGTH, AND LOOK FORWARD TO MY CAMPING TRIP NEXT WEEK!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences. So glad you are well and are enjoying life. Long may it continue. Warmest hugs, Justine and Michael. 💚
While growing up I lived with my big family my Dad worked but not in the winter months much Mom knew how to grow a garden can her vegetables For the winter as kids we loved to go to the apple tree Across from the church we belonged to and climbed And shook apples to the ground and filled our T-shirt’s With them and took them home to Mom she made all Sorta of pies and canned applesauce then in mid July Mom would take us to the thickest part of the blackberry Bushes picking for hours so we could take them home To help make jams with them early Saturday mornings I would go to Pic n Pay to grocery shop with her we grew up Playing outside with the other 64 playmates on our street and Came up with so many games to play it was so much fun Not once did I think my family was poor in money because We were so loved by such good parents and I loved them ❤️
Wow this was so inspirational, i come from a family who had Nothing we worked hard and up today we still work hard . We are married but yet we are blessed with the simple things in Life and so happy to have family around us ... where do we all take these riches. Do not try to impress people . Because today in society people watch and point the fingers checking out how much you got in your bank what type of clothes you wear . Hey live simple material things do not last long once you go down 7feet . Simple living is the best ..
I've been saying and thinking so much lately about how I live in a guilded cage. It's so true. No major hardships, no real discomfort, consumerism...Amazon deliveries every day when I want the next book or beauty product. But at what cost? I have and spend much less than most in American society, and still, I've fallen into the same trap. My happiest time was being in grad school with a partner and baby, and we had no money at all, and just found pleasure in one another.
Thank you for watching the video. Very interesting what you say when your happiest time was... no money but time with one another. Kind wishes, Justine and Michael. 💚
When we have freedom then we want stability and security. When we have security we want to be entertained. When we’re entertained then we want fame and status and power. When we have status and power, then we want to be loved and find purpose and meaning. When we have love and a purpose then we have responsibilities, and when we have responsibilities we have obligations and commitments and then we are not free, so we dream of freedom. All is vanity. We are given the entire infinite, eternal and harmonious universe and we cut it apart into a million little Hells in which to suffer the illusion of the will and the “I” it conceives out of wedlock for the sake of being martyred and resurrected again.
Over the years my finances have fluctuated. Sometimes being comfortable and other times difficult. I have recognised that is the flow and to accept it and not to feel stressed when money is less available. Living on very little has become second nature and am equally happy either way. Most of the things I enjoy in life are not material and feel content with life.
@Estelle Scordellis - Thanks for this beautiful comment. And it made me think of one of our much earlier films called 'Learning to Love' - I think you'll resonate with that. If you haven't seen it yet, check it out x th-cam.com/video/X6d2GQdPcoI/w-d-xo.html
So much truth here. I wish I could have played this for my 18 year old self. I would have chosen a completely different path. Don’t waste your life. It’s worth SO much more than that check.
I am happy as long as I have a roof over my head and food to eat, I would love to have a some house with a yard to grow a vegetable garden and some flowers but is was not meant to be. I was taught since I was young to not buy clothing cause it was “ in fashion “ etc. My family were content, enjoyed the outdoors, worked for what we have. There are always people who don’t have enough and those that have too much, take each day as it comes with expectation that doesn’t give you a lot of stress. Be happy for yourself!
This is so true. I live in a very small home I renovated myself, and drive a modest car. People look down on me but I don't care. I know how much debt they are in and how they argue over money. I have no debts (aside from a small mortgage) and live simply and peacefully.
Beautiful message, we are glad you are content and happy with what you have. Nice to know that the messages of this video resonated with you. Warmest hugs, Justine and Michael. 💚
Thank you to the filmmakers! You have no idea how many of us need to hear and be reminded of these treasures. We need to simplify our lives. Wake up and smell the roses. To live and not to just exist. Reset our priorities. God Bless all those folk who find value in these inspirational messages.
@Sharon Aita - THANK YOU for this heart warming comment and your beautiful words of support for our film making project. Thanks for seeing the value, and for joining us on this journey. Hugs to you x
To be satisfied with what we have is something that we all need to aspire to, but, unfortunately, life and all its issues make us lose sight of this. I long for a more quiet peaceful world at this stage of my life, maybe someday. Thank you Green Renaissance for again providing us with the inspiration.
@Katherine Ashley - And I must add a huge thank you to each and every single one of the characters in this story, who shared their experiences on this sensitive topic, with such truth and honesty. And thanks to YOU for always reaching out to us and share your thoughts - we love it 💚
@Rowinggranny - Glad that this story wormed its way into your heart and mind. Just a gentle little reminder... which we all need from time to time... xx
This is an old GR film I hadn't watched before. I'm glad I found it. I feel so identified with it. I had a good job and a good salary, two years ago. It was very stressing though! Then I lost that job. I had a sabbatical year after that. Then I decided to create my own business, which I started this year. After 3 months, I have to say I'm making little money. But you know what? I'm way happier than I was when I had my job working for an international company. Money is not everything, there are things that are more important. Thanks GR! Your films always make me smile!
Thank you for sharing your experiences with us Rj, glad you find this video at this time. We all need money to live and pay our bills but there is so much more to life.... We wish you all the best for the road ahead. Warm wishes, Justine and Michael.💚
Western industrialised economy and culture has taught us to USE PEOPLE AND LOVE THINGS We need to be true to our nature and LOVE PEOPLE AND USE THINGS All the best to all seeing this video. You are on the path. You seek and so you will find
This is refreshing. Im actually on my mid twenties and life is just full of pressures, deadlines and stress. I always feel like i have to be the #1. That is, until this past few months, when my anxiety gets really BAD. I started recalculating my every decisions and plans. I am also trying to change my mindset and perception. Well, that's it for now..hope i can do it🙆
@Camille Lopez - Glad that this film found its way to you when you needed to hear it. Your words make me think of another film that we recently shared, called 'Slowing Down'. If you haven't seen that yet, check it out, I think it'll resonate with you. Sending much love to you. And YOU CAN DO IT 💚
I completely understand. I’m tired of my life but I can’t live the life I wanted because I started this and my family wanted this more than I wanted it before. I figured it out but I couldn’t go back and start over again. Some voice in my head would want to take my life but I keep pushing forward and live. Keep reminding myself to bend to the truth. Live life as it is. I’m pressured to figure out what I enjoy, what I like to do, what I do best. Maybe I could figure it out or maybe not.
@@learnwithnorlyn Give yourself the chance to find your own heart and follow it. This is a lifelong process, not a once and done. If you waste money, you might earn it back, but the time we wasted trying to live someone else's life we can never get back.
You can. It is a journey, but you are starting on that path younger than many. Good! And a little hint from someone twice your age -- there is no number one to achieve. It's an illusion. We spend our lives chasing what cannot be caught. When we stop doing that, stop the madness and pressure, we have a chance to discover, and enjoy, reality. We just sold our "dream" house. We worked many years and did without to achieve a dream that turned into a nightmare. I nearly died in the process of trying to save that dream? For what? Now I live in a place half the size, in need of much updating, but with so much peace and a sense of shelter I had never felt -- and I am much much happier, although I am still looking for more to let go. Moving house shows you that stuff is more burden than blessing! Lol Wishing you all the best. Welcome aboard!
I shocked an accountant many years ago when he asked what my 5 year financial plan was, and I replied " That's easy, make money and spend it." Have lived with that phylosiphy all my life. Now retired and living humbly , enjoying each and every day, as I have always done. Just now I have lots of fond memories looking back at the life I have had, and extremely gratefull for having had the opportunities to do as I wanted.
Thank you for sharing, very interesting to read. We are so glad that all worked out and you are happy, with wonderful memories to look back on. Wishing you many more content and joyful years. Much love, Justine and Michael. 💚
I really wished I knew what truly makes a person happy like I've personally deleted my social medias but I'm more in the point of what do I want to do that makes me happy what do I expire to do and say at the end of the day that I enjoyed my life doing this career I'm not looking for money just living a good peaceful life but that really makes me think about what I want to do in life. I'm 19 years old. I really love this type of videos by the way
You are young, so try different jobs or careers out. Not all of us find a job or lifestyle that suits us right at the start. I started out working as a quahog stuffer, a hospital housekeeper, a kitchen worker at McDonald's. After college I had a good-paying factory job, then worked at a residential home for disabled children. I was a stay at home mother for six years, then became a teacher assistant for 10 years. I went through a divorce, got my Masters degree at 46 and was a teacher for 14 years. I loved teaching children, but after standardized test scores became the focus of instruction and not the children themselves, I took a lesser pension to retire at 59. In my late 40s I met the love of my life. I miss my students, but am happily retired. I think we each have our own journeys to make before we come to a place of contentment. Some find that place sooner. I found it later on. Don't be in a rush to find a "perfect" life. Take chances, be creative and brave, experiment, and eventually you will learn what brings you happiness.
I completely agree with the people in this video. I had an awakening 2 years ago and now I live in a big city where I see people running for no reason except money and I don’t know if I should stay or move to a rural area. I value nature simple things and personal freedom. I am 35 yrs old and it is hard to find people who thinks similarly in my area
Thanks for sharing! Glad the various messages resonated with you. We wish you that you can come to the right decision, make the right move. And then find what you are looking for. All the best for the road ahead. Sending you warmest of hugs. Justine and Michael. 💚
Money is not everything, but without money we cannot live a simply life. The problem of the world today is our value system has changed, people do not know the meaning of respect, being kind to each other. Life is getting more and more expensive, but the salary stay the same, many of us just trying to live above the water. I was born in the city as a city girl, but now i just want to live close to the mother nature. Live simply, i need space, sun and good people around me. I want to live. Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful video 💗
Thank you for writing 💚 We think that you describe a yearning that so many of us have to return to a simple, natural state because of our disconnectedness. Much love, Michael and Justine
I usually watch this on regular basis on repeat until i can really reset my mind. Sad but i know i can rest in just a few minutes & put on my running shoes and head to the park for a run instead of browns amazon like a lifeless soul. Thank you again & again for these simple messages & moments.
I was too much touched with this story. Well, to live a SIMPLE LIFE IS HAPPINESS. MONEY doesn't make you happy but It just enough to make your life decent n comfortable contributie to make your life easy, healthy fit n sound..on the other hand, friends n memorable memories are KEEPING you young n serviceable to others. Thanks for sharing this post.
The happiest time for my family was when we had very little. I completely respect my father and understand why he chose to move us to another place, but I think all of us paid a terrible price. We had material security. However, we were outcasts in our new home. School was an absolute hell for me and my sister. My parents didn't know how to help us. Worst of all, I lost my father. He was working out of town for days, even weeks, at a time. As a child, I didn't realize the effect that would have on me. As an adult, I've had to find that little boy I once was and nurture him. My whole world was turned upside down for money. It wasn't worth it. My whole family suffered in ways that I can't even describe. No amount of money can fix that now.
Shew, this goes deep, very touching. Thank you for sharing, such an eye opener. May you never lose that little boy again. Wishing you all the best for your life, sending much love and kindness to you, Justine and Michael. 💚

You are a very lucky woman that he divorce. Be happy
That's remarkable, Reflectionsoflife should do a story about that experience.

You are strong and amazing ❤
That all sounds beautiful! Enjoy ♥️
God bless you from the sisterhood.❤❤

That is such deep truth. I have a family member who recently passed away, working hard ‘for his retirement’ all his life, he died the year he retired because of stress...
@@ReflectionsofLife it really doesn't have to be "so true"
It's only true for those who make those choices.

Very true 💯👍
Sounds like you found your peace. Blessings to you.
Thank you for sharing your story, YOU sure have helped me on my quest to live a better life. God bless you for ever in Jesus name amen.
It is a sad statement on our society and it is unfortunate that most of us, as you have, discover this so late in life.
For myself. I found that traveling to places outside of my sphere, helped me discover the joy that so many have and who do not chase after this materialistic dream endlessly.
Wishing you continued peace❤
I really do believe that commercialism has taken over and blinded people to what really matters in life.
💚

Some people want expensive cars, exclusive clothes and big houses, others want a small home far away from these people. I am one of them. It warms the heart to see this film and those who contributed.
It still takes decent amount of money to live in a small house in the country

I love this! I am a single mom of four adorable boys and I am practicing minimalism for 6 years now and counting, it really change my life. We live in a tiny house in a farm and I am working from home.
Love reading this message, knowing that you've chosen to walk a path of minimalism, especially with four boys, can't be easy, and we applaud you for that. Warmest of hugs. Justine and Michael. 💚

@neckdaisy - Thanks for sharing this. And much love to you x

Agree. Money is useful and just do not let money use us. Having more than enough is enough .
Yes... I think this is the whole message of the video...❤ Living more with less...just less and not living miserably with 'nothing'.
People should have money for food, water, clothing, and shelter. The rest of your money was paid for with time that could be better used experiencing life.
Just my opinion. But I understand the sentiment.
Just food, a place to lay my head, friends and family and God...I need God in my life.

Life is timeless. I am 73, live alone and I love my existence. Thank you for your videos. Australia.
There’s no fear in wearing others ppl clothes, not having furniture…
Through my struggle as a child, I learned an important lesson to put faith and love into my family first and foremost.
Justine and Michael. x

Is also another counsel in that old Good book. Cheers!
With respect, that "old book" is Holy Scripture--the Book of my Faith.
This is my favorite verse in the Bible, spoken to me few years ago. I pulled out my kids from school and homeschooled them, relationship with Jesus Christ and family is very important for me.
“We live in gilded cages. We have nice houses, nice cars. We don’t realize that it’s a jail.” Wow... 😮 That was so profound!
Touched that these words meant so much to you. Warmest hugs, Justine and Michael. 💚
"What you own, owns you".
"You sell your soul, you lose who you are" few words but with a powerful meaning
“Wealth is what you have in your heart, and what you can share with others”
We paid off our house very fast by living very frugally. I told my husband we were buying our freedom. We had all the important stuff and we and the kids were happy. Now we can comfortably afford to spend more, but don’t, because it’s not important enough to us. We have our freedom.
Loved reading this. To hear that you and your family chose to prioritise freedom about monetary wealth - that's wonderful. It's all about finding the right balance, and it certainly sounds like you've managed to do just that. Very inspiring. Sending love to you all. Justine and Michael 💚

That's all I want, but without toxic and abusive parents around (which is where I am now).

My young friend
Please don’t put so much pressure on yourself.

Right, this video kinda makes no sense. It took money to obtain all those things they have and they are not cheap. Can’t live simply from zero. But I do agree on living a more simplistic life.

True happiness is serving God and helping your fellow man.

What an incredibly powerful and precious lesson, to carry forward with you from what must also have been a difficult time in your life for you. me same as 70 years. have a great garden, give sport curses and YT channel of my travels.
While growing up I lived with my big family
my Dad worked but not in the winter months much
Mom knew how to grow a garden can her vegetables
For the winter as kids we loved to go to the apple tree
Across from the church we belonged to and climbed
And shook apples to the ground and filled our T-shirt’s
With them and took them home to Mom she made all
Sorta of pies and canned applesauce then in mid July
Mom would take us to the thickest part of the blackberry
Bushes picking for hours so we could take them home
To help make jams with them early Saturday mornings
I would go to Pic n Pay to grocery shop with her we grew up
Playing outside with the other 64 playmates on our street and
Came up with so many games to play it was so much fun
Not once did I think my family was poor in money because
We were so loved by such good parents and I loved them ❤️

Goal is not to be rich but have freedom. 🥳
And sadly you need money to be free. Money buy freedom.
@@pistopitpitVery true. To be free and so be happy we need much money!
@@wulf67 I feel free the most when I do shopping at Lidl.
Freedom is when you can go if you want to, leave everything material behind and have no regrets. Most people do not understand this.
Ditto - a bit stressy financially at the mo so got myself another buddy to help me ease away from this money thing - 3 chickens now and counting :o)
So much truth here. I wish I could have played this for my 18 year old self. I would have chosen a completely different path. Don’t waste your life. It’s worth SO much more than that check.
Touching words. Glad the messages shared here resonated with you. Enjoy and appreciate life every day. Warmest hugs, Justine and Michael. 💚
“It is not the man who has little but the man who craves more that is poor.” Lucius Annaeus Seneca
@Gail Howes - Thank you for sharing this with us here. 💚
Yes, you got it right.
5:26 "You sell your soul...You lose who you are" . This line made me realize...
Nice that these words spoke to you. Warmest hugs, Justine and Michael. 💚
Like a deep relaxing breath I take in their calming words of wisdom 💚
I just want a small plot of land where i can build my tiny house on and plant my huge edible garden.
Me too!
Exact same dream.
Wish granted! My prayers
I like your thoughts. Wish you the best of luck.
Me too😊
This is so true.
Key to happiness is a simple and modest life.
Brings me back when I was young. I didn’t have much but was content
So glad the messages shared here resonated with you. Much love, Justine and Michael. 💚
And thanks to YOU for always reaching out to us and share your thoughts - we love it 💚
This resonated with me on so many levels. Thank you so much .
Western industrialised economy and culture has taught us to USE PEOPLE AND LOVE THINGS
We need to be true to our nature and LOVE PEOPLE AND USE THINGS
All the best to all seeing this video.
You are on the path. You seek and so you will find
@sacha admi - LOVE this comment - thank for sharing with us 💚
@@ReflectionsofLife my pleasure .very thought provoking videos.keep up the good work.thanks.
@@canoslo6126 :) Thank you
I think like you just don’t know how to disconnect myself off the rat race
When all your basic needs are met (food, shelter, safety) and you are not just surviving but living life.
Very true.
Thank you for sharing these beautiful words and thoughts, thank you for being open to the message of this video. Warm hugs, Justine and Michael. 💚
“It brings you love.” Perfectly said. Thank you for this gem.
It's a pleasure Peggy x
I love how you explained minimalism at 02:10. It’s not just about owning less but living more intentionally.
Wonderful that those words resonated with you. Sending you warm wishes. Justine and Michael. 💚
Honest pleasure- not plastic pleasure... that is perfectly said!
So happy you liked the messages the different people shared. Much love, Justine and Michael. 💚
