My elderly black cat had started dying awhile back, his back leg stopped working and he was constantly meowing presumably for help or comfort, we decided we needed to put him down so he wouldn't suffer a long and painful death, but we couldn't really afford to have him euthanized professionally, so we bought some of the stuff they use and just put it in a plate of wet cat food (his favorite) but since it wasn't injected it wasn't too effective, he lived about 4 more days, each of which my family spent holding him, taking care of him, and making sure he was comfortable and had company until his death, over that time span I held him a lot of times, telling him I loved him, how much I cared for him, and giving him plenty of pets and affection, he passed away about a month before my 11th birthday years ago, I still miss him today, that cat was amazing, he cheered me up when I was sad, stayed with me when I was sick, and he was the best cat I could've ever dreamed of having, I wouldn't have traded the time I spent with him for the world, and I wish he was still here today, but at least he died in comfort, surrounded by his family.
Sorry for writing a paragraph, I felt like I needed to share this for some reason, Rest in peace Max.

Couldn't talk well for about 2 weeks couldn't really grasp onto thoughts well but once I was all healed up I went from being this depressed life hating asshole to a much happier, calmer, level headed person and I quit my dead end job got the career I dreamt of since I was a kid and have lived in bliss every since. Awwwww, my heart breaks for you. I think he wanted to die at home, which is why he meowed to go home. 😢
My first cat, Blackie, (a black and white tuxedo,) died next to me in bed after suffering from strokes for a month. I should've put him down, but I was only in my early 20's, he was my first cat, was horribly neglected for the first 9 years of his life (something I had to literally beat my parents over in order to stop,) and would've been 16 had he held on a few more months. I'll never get over how helpless I was when he passed; it wasn't quiet or peaceful in the slightest. His jaw was locked, foam was coming out of his nose and mouth and he was convulsing. All I could do was open the window for air and talk to Mom over the phone as it happened in front of me.
If I had known it was going to happen, I would've spent more time awake with him, but to had been up the passed 26hrs with worry. I'll never forget how he looked at me before closing my eyes. I feel like such an ass for going to sleep on him. I hope he knew how much he was loved.
Also, no one told me that, sometimes, cats will magically get better their last day of life. He was such a good boy that day, taking his pills like a champ and was acting so normally that I thought he was actually on the mend. It wasn't until after, that my mom told me about that and TBH, I never forgave her for it. Same with the neglect; she allowed him to wither away and almost die in a small bathroom in the basement for the first decade of his life. It wasn't until I was 16 and bigger, that I could do anything about it and I made the step-fuck she married BLEED over it. They never touched/locked him away again. I wish I had killed the bastard but then I would've missed out on the last seven years of that angel's life. Mom's never been the same to me either. May they both rot in hell.

I know my sisters would help me out too because we honestly loved all of our cats. Also it sucks that you had to see him that way I don’t know what I would have done. It killed me to see him the way he was his last few days but I thankfully didn’t have to see him pass especially not like that. I’m sure he knew how much you cared for him which is why he was also being such a good boy his last day he wanted to show you that he was grateful and wanted to say thank you

The ones about serial killers not getting caught reminded me of the film "The Lovely Bones". (SPOILERS) It's about a girl who gets r***d and murdered by a neighbor and how she watches her family and killer in the years after her death from the afterlife, even successfully preventing her sister from being a victim as well. That movie was so heart-wrenching because the culprit was just a couple of houses down from where they lived. It's eventually revealed that he was a serial killer who's had multiple victims before the protagonist and never faced any legal consequences. When the sister found really incriminating evidence against him, he got out of dodge quickly and the police were too late to catch him. He dies in the ending though by slipping and falling off a steep hill after unsuccessfully trying to lure a girl into his car, so karmic justice i guess.

I had a kitten that was dying and he knew that my ex husband and I were devastated, so he held on as long as he could for us. He wanted to be held when we were present and when we realized it was time, we set him up in his favorite corner with a heating pad and his favorite blanket, and made the hardest decision of our lives at the time: we told him we loved him, that he didn’t have to fight anymore, and then left the house.
When we came home, he was nuzzled up in his favorite blanket, just how he liked it, and he was gone. He didn’t want to die in front of us. His ashes live in a special spot in my house and I still have his first name tag on my keys.

It's not just with dementia patients I believe, for instance, my gran was basically comatose (she'd had cancer and was in a hospice room). She was perfectly fine cognitively, but in the morning she told the nurses she was going to die after feeling a pain in her leg and chest (probably a blod clot) and with pain meds plus physical state fell into unconciousness. Me and my parents were the only people who could be with her that day, from 3pm we were by her side. She didnt move or respond to us the entire time, occassionally opened her eyes but she wasnt 'there'. Then her priest came in at 5pm and as soon as he entered the room she sat up and looked at him repeating 'oh father, oh father, father father father!". I'm not religious and dont think this was a spiritual thing exactly, but she was very close to the priest as he was the only person who saw her almost daily for a while. We loved her but werent close to her really. I was glad to see she'd left the earth having a close bond to someone.

When people bring up really rare, horrifying, super painful and disfiguring genetic conditions, it's important to understand that these occur when you happen to carry a variant of the gene that causes it (which would already be highly uncommon) and then-of all the people you could possibly decide to have a kid with-you'd have to _happen_ to choose someone who _also_ carries a variant of that gene.
Then _both_ variants have to actually be passed on to the baby, which is not guaranteed (but should obviously still be taken _very_ seriously and considered as _very_ possible). That's why these genetic conditions are so unheard of.
And couples can be tested before having kids to see which genetic disease variants they carry and can pass on, for peace of mind. 23andMe can even show you any variants of many (though it's not fully comprehensive) debilitating genetic diseases that you might carry.

The cat one is a gross misinterpretation of animal behavior, mixed with heavy superstition.
Cats react to pain and discomfort by getting lethargic, interacting less, resting more to conserve energy and avoiding movement. (as do a lot of animals tbh). Which usually means less drinking, eating and litterbox use, specially if any of those activities are directly tied to the source of discomfort.
It's common for symptoms to go unnoticed in cats precisely because they do this, and you need to pay close attention to your cat's normal routine and behavior to notice they're doing this before whatever condition they have escalates. (usually, renal problems due to reduced water intake, high sodium foods and a common genetic predisposition).
In practice, this means they usually suffer alone, in silence, and you gotta pay attention to notice it, so if whatever they're going through ends up killing them, of course they will look like they got reclusive before dying.
You just don't realize all the other times they did it and lived.

He wouldn't eat or drink so we wrapped him in a blanket and took him to the vet. We knew something was really wrong when he just let me hold him the whole car ride, he usually tries to wiggle free.

Yeah, cats can be stoic about illness and injury. My kitty had a urethral blockage, took 3 flush kits to clear all the crystals and sludge, but my vet commended me because his bladder was full but not over full. I caught it right in time.
For many years I owned rats and they are even more stoic than cats. I caught and treated all illnesses but one (busy with university). I knew about it and was trying to treat it at home with vet guidance until I could make the hour long drive up to the specialist vet; I just didn't make it in time. My vet called me the "rat whisperer".
My dad got upset yesterday that three of our four cats seem to prefer to spend time with me over him, but I'm empathic and cuddle with them. He seemed to understand when I explained that cuddles and kisses win out over simple petting, lol.
Plus, I'm having a migraine (chronic migraines) , and our three boys always take care of me during a migraine flare-up. One boy "hunts" for me bringing me a toy mouse, one leads me to the food bowls and water fountain and wakes me up to eat, and my baby (the oldest oddly enough) is extra cuddly and puts his head against mine and tries to sleep on top of me with his head at least against my jaw. And all three are sleeping in my bedroom, which is unusual. I normally have one or two, but not all three. They are willing to put aside the hierarchy and territorial disputes while I'm not feeling well.

I was walking my Brother's dog around my yard so he could use the bathroom, and despite me being a literal foot away, he crossed paths with an unfortunate Baby Rabbit and killed it instantly before I could even react.
The only sound I heard from the Bunny was a single frightened squeak, that sounded exactly like a dog toy.

14:30 Sadly, this happened to one of my best friends. About 7 years ago, when he was 31, on St. Patrick's Day, he went home way early (especially for him) around 2pm saying "I just haven't been feeling well". (Important to note: SPD in my city is a ridiculous affair. Not quite Boston-levels, but I wouldn't be surprised if we weren't second on the drunk per capita table that day every year. For him, it was a high holiday.) But, indeed, for the last few days he had been under the weather and, because he didn't have health insurance, was just treating it like a cold and taking cough drops, etc. He went home, fell asleep, and never woke up. It's still one of the saddest things ever to me, because he was such a terrific person. Very open and giving, generous to a fault - and creative as hell. The guy made comics, ran art installations and projects, made and did cosplay before it was a big thing, AND worked on almost every big movie that was filmed in our city in everything from set design and lighting/rigging to being an extra and working as a PA. The craziest thing about it is that we found out after the fact that his organs had been shutting down, one by one, over the last 46 hours he'd been alive and he hadn't even noticed it. Both he and the world got robbed. RIP Pharlie.

Cats do not know when they are about to die. They do not have a concept of death. They "run away" and hide because instincts are telling them they are injured, find a quiet place no one will disturb them, no predators will get them, and take time healing. Cats who feel safe around their family will stick around because they know they'll be okay if they show vulnerability around them.

It saddens me every time I hear stories relating to Jonestown, like there was this whole forced adoption by the leader that leads the parents of these children forming a legal coalition against him. Another thing was like how conditioned they were for when the "day of the reckoning" arrives, so they were asked to drink this supposed poison (he told them so, but in actuality just colored water) and a vast majority ~90-95% drank it thoughtlessly. I think one of the things that stings me a lot is the fact that some volunteer nurses didn't drink it until everyone had, and also assisting the needy drink theirs (i,e. infants and disabled).
It shows how faiths and beliefs can really mess with someone's rational judgement, but to be fair, a charismatic communist local church leader that promises a socialist utopia in the middle of nowhere can be interesting to say the least.

After serving their short sentences some of them even continued to assault other ppl. One of these monster's mom vandalized the poor girl's grave bc she "ruined her son's life." These kinds of terrible events makes you never want to interact with another person ever again.

I've been paranoid about the sudden death thing for years. You can just randomly get a stroke or a seizure for seemingly no reason. Silent infections are also a thing. Most infections come with obvious fatigue, fevers, and all that, but it's possible to have one and not even know until it's already very advanced. If you've had one then you're likely to have another.
I'm currently on my second silent infection, which went undetected for over a month. The first one was undetected for like 2 weeks. All I felt was just kinda tired, but nothing significantly different from the usual tiredness of a long day. Then I decided to check my blood pressure and it was 85/50.
I've even heard of people having literal sepsis and not even knowing, they just suddenly pass out on the spot and then wake up in the ER missing some fingers or limbs.

The story about the bird reminded me of the time I saved a bird from my rear staircase.
I lived in the upstairs apartment in a duplex. The building was rectangular with a staircase at the back. The kind that splits each floor into two sets of 5 or 6 stairs.
One night I go to take my garbage out my back door when I realize there is a bat out there. Me and my phobia of bats noped right back into my kitchen.
The next day, I realize it's a bird. The 5 and 8 yr old kids from downstairs tried to help me catch the bird to release it, but it noped away from me consistently. After a few hours, the kids had lost interest and it was just me and the bird. So I put on some gloves and just started talking to it.
I talked, calmly and evenly until the bird chilled out. I sat on the step with my hand out and talked to the bird for quite some time, never breaking eye contact. Eventually it slowly walked over to my hand and turned itself sideway to my hand, one eye staring at my eyes. I slowly picked it up, walked down the stairs and let it go.

15:52 If you're concerned about the permafrost one, and ESPECIALLY if you live in or around Arctic regions, look up the "Pleistocene Park". The video by Atlas Pro does a good job explaining.
In short, it's a project centered on returning the Arctic mammals that had been hunted to or nearly to extinction back to the Arctic. The absence of these mammals allowed tree saplings to replace the productive grassland with nearly worthless pine forests, and reintroducing their stamping hooves has smothered saplings, allowing edible grasses to take back over. On top of that, the more animals present, the more snow gets packed down, keeping the Permafrost frozen. Removing a forest seems like a bad idea for the Earth, but in this forest, when a tree dies, it's too cold to decompose into the ground, meaning that all it's carbon returns to the air. With grass and heavy animals to trample it, carbon gets continually crushed into the ground in a cycle of fast grass growth, and trampling animals. Also, snow on a grassy field repels much more sunlight that snow on trees, due to a field being able to be entirely covered.
Right now, this is only occurring in a single park in a small part of Russia. If you live in a region that is primarily pine forest, and has snow on the ground for at least half the year, look into how you can help this effort. If the already barren Arctic were returned to it's pre-human state, it would be an even better carbon sink than the Amazon.

The last one about the cat is both heartbreaking and adorable. My dog did something similar. I was away at college in a city 3 hours away when he started getting really sick. The soonest I would be able to get home would be almost a week after he started getting really bad and I was scared he would pass away before I had the chance to say goodbye. When I was able to see him again he put on a show for a full day (actually eating, moving around more, generally being more like himself) before he wasn't able to do it anymore. I got spend a few days with him before he passed away at 5AM easter morning 2019 at the age of 14 years and 8 months old. Something I like telling people about him is that when he was diagnosed with cancer the vet said he had 9 months left, a year if we were lucky. That was 3 years before he passed away of old age. He was stubborn as all hell and refused to go until he'd seen me one last time.

I have had 2 serious TBI/ABIs (brain injuries), as well as numerous concussions; in fact, *sigh* I have one right now from a fall (getting a CT because the XR showed a likely fracture to L5--in my concussed state I left AMA).
Brain traumas, including concussions, cause cumulative damage.
I am NOT the person I was before my brain injuries.
The first was at 21 (1995). I eventually regained near full function, but I was a changed person, personality wise. I actually went on to graduate nursing school with high honors after that, but it was hell. I would wake up and not remember that I was married AND PREGNANT! I couldn't remember what state or city I was in. I tell you that was one helluva shock every morning. In my mind I was still an unmarried virgin. Waking up next to a man, my husband, with a swollen belly was terrifying!
The second one was even worse. Thankfully I exceeded expectations in my recovery or I would have been in a nursing home for the remainder of my life. Both times I couldn't remember the beginning of a sentence by the end of the sentence. A paragraph?! Unthinkable. Found out I used to have an eidetic memory and high IQ; the only reason I mention this is because by the time I got assessed for the brain injury clinic (9 months later!!!!!) my verbal IQ was still "high", high enough that I had to do my own recovery. My memory was/is shot. I have intermediate and ST memory loss/issues.
People have repeatedly told me my memory issues reminded them of a movie. When I saw it later, it was VERY similar. 😂 I would forget the movie and be shocked each time. Everyone wanted me to watch that movie!
Sorry this is all over the place. Some of the "interesting" personality changes are:
    1) I went from very religious, artistic, into literature and English to a scientific minded atheist who is good at math. I wasn't bad before, but it didn't come naturally.
    2) I went from passive off the charts (Taylor Johnson test) to angry, volatile. Years on I am now probably close to the middle. I am a bit more assertive. It's RARE that I get angry or experience any strong emotions.
    3) I was very emotional. Now I battle with
experiencing emotions at all and feeling connections with people.
    4) I went from needing a phone/address book, calendar, planner to having to write EVERYTHING down, and I still miss appointments once in a while, 2 or 3 with this exacerbation from the concussion.
If anyone wants me to answer any questions, I will try.

The first one, the person that spotted him was the corpses sister (That’s what I’ve heard anyway)

I just realized that a few years ago I did experience paradoxical undressing. I was out on a school field trip to a beach dune where we could help get data on the plants that were growing there. It was abnormally cold. Like, if I went out into a blizzard with no shirt on I would have been warmer. So I had my jacket on to try and help. After awhile I took it off and said I was warm and I didn't feel cold anymore. There were a lot of other kids freezing, and one had to be sent back because he couldn't even see and we had to drag him back to the bus. I started offering my stuff to other people who were clearly colder than I was.
I'm only now realizing how bad that was for me.

That last story reminds me of my cat. He came to me as he was dying, and refused to let go until I passed out (1-2am in the morning).
He was my baby. I still miss him.

0:24 the worst part is that
    1, he made the tomb
2, the person that caught him was the bodies sister (forgot who the body was)

I work on the cardiac floor in a hospital and I tell all my patients to come back if anything feels off. I don’t care if you think I the symptoms are minute. If they know someone that seems to have symptoms or family is there I say the same. Infractions and strokes are nothing to laugh at. Too many people die because we are too proud/nervous/poor and it needs to stop.
