The facts parents believe sugar makes their kids hyper and that holloween candy be dangerous is hilarious. A real testament to how little work parents are actually willing to put in to their kids.

When my family is talking about common sense, it's more about "don't jump out of a plane, you will die." That's common sense.

The wedding ring thing is so ridiculous, my dad and stepmom only spent like a 100 bucks on 2 simple silver rings with engravements, and that's it, they are happy with it.

The second one (about just listening instead of offering advice) is actually pretty solid.

When he said "one hundred and eightysix right square bracket, one hundred and eightyseven, right square bracket, one hundred and eightyeight"... I felt that.

When people tell me to hold my head back when having a nosebleed, I do it and pretend to choke and cough up my nose blood. Works every time.

The drowning thing is accurate. I nearly drowned once and all I thought was 'oh fuck I'm sinking I need to get to the pool edge'. I was bouncing by the tip of my toes and swallowing water, the lifeguard was literally just a few steps away from the edge and never noticed I was actively drowning because I didn't made any big splashes or loud noises.

That a dog won't bite unless it's provoked. Dogs attack even when unprovoked. This idea that you need to somehow antagonize an animal before it attacks is simply wrong.

“The wedding is the most important day of someone’s life.” I argue that it’s the funeral, because it’s indicating that your life will no longer continue.

Autism is a “superpower.” No, it’s not.

The "Youth is the best time of your life." comment almost drove me to suicide. Because if being bullied, having zero friends and a diagnosed depression is the best it's going to get, I didn't want to know what came after. Luckily I decided to outlive everyone of those A-holes, just to spite the universe.

Definitely agree with the whole "being a kid is the best part of your life" thing. I love being an adult. I love being independent, I enjoy earning my own money, and I enjoy college way more than I did being a kid. I especially hated being a teenager. Its a sort of "the grass is always greener on the other side" scenario.

I think the "ignoring a bully thing" can work in some cases. It definitely worked for me. It just depends on the magnitude of the bullying. Some bullies just use verbal assaults to get a reaction out of you. Some bullies will go out of their way to harass you, which sometimes ignoring doesn't help.

I’ve worked in retail, food service and phone support so I understand being polite to employees (it’s also basic human decency) I’ve had to make some angry calls to customer service before, and I’ve always started the call explaining that I am angry about a situation and that I understand it isn’t their fault, and that if I come across angry with them it isn’t intentional. Every time they have understood and every single time by the end of the call I was happy and very pleased with their service. If you have to make an angry call, explain that out loud to them, it’s not for them but rather you saying those words out loud helps you to check your anger and not lash out at them.

"Absence definitely makes the heart grow fonder" My dad travelled for 30+ years for work. The longest we were together was on holidays for a month, but they were constantly interrupted by family gatherings and outings. When my dad retired he'd be home 24/7 and that's when world was 3 came and he learned of my moms narcissism.
