    Back when I did screen printing and embroidery. We would save all the thread clippings and set them out side in the yard and the birds would use it in their nest building

    I loved the part where you trimmed the edges of the black squares before hand. Never seen it before. Could you in your next video show some ways how to get texts and things like that more crisp?

    I’ve seen on zero waste groups people re-spinning yarn scraps into new wool! It’s super cool! You brush the fingers abate then spin them back together on a wheel or other method 🧶 would make a crazy cool rug or blanket!

    What if you did a biweekly "finish that thing" episode? It would be a great way to keep your projects from piling up. I'm a procraftinater so I know what you mean I have like 7 projects I havent started/finished and I have been planning my "leftovers" to be completed every other week I'm currently down to 4 unfinished projects!!

    If you have scraps of wool you can felt with it, make hats/pins/keychains etc. all you need is soap and patience

      Not all of my rug backs look this clean 😅 this one's easy cuz I can use vertical lines with ease. My more detailed pieces look wild on the back hahah No one can tell from the front, anyway 😊 but also, your lines will get cleaner with time!

    caught your wave tattoo...are you an Aquarius by any chance? I am, and mentioned to a friend that I started tufting. she replied "you Aquarians and your tufting!" apparently I was one of like 4 water bearers she knows that have taken up the craft lol.

  • @Pertie
    @Pertie 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey, I am really looking for a lockdown hobby but I am a bit of unsure about the cost as a newbie. I understood the pistol but what about the yarn needed for let’s say a 1.50m x 1.50m or 1m x 1m rug? Do you answer this in one of your videos? Thanks a lot from someone who doesn’t really have a clue about all of this but stumbled across your channel :)

    • @AJMAKES137
      @AJMAKES137  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! I talked about this a bit here th-cam.com/video/bmqXxOta0w4/w-d-xo.html
      It's tough to quantify. And it all depends on what yarn you're using. I'm going to share how much yarn it takes for me to make this large piece when I'm all done with it :)

  • @suffusedindream
    @suffusedindream 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is there such a thing as tufting lines too close? Does it affect gluing or anything like that?

    • @AJMAKES137
      @AJMAKES137  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes actually, too much density of the yarn can make it difficult to tuft in that area. But as long as your gun can easily move through the fabric while you’re tufting, you’re good! It wouldn’t affect glueing at all.

  • @bennettcafarelli7066
    @bennettcafarelli7066 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've never heard of anyone using two strands of yarn through their gun at once. Why do you do this'? Does it save time by filling a bigger area at once? I'd love to cut down on time, but I don't want to waste any yarn.

    • @shaziabellamy7654
      @shaziabellamy7654 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve seen multiple people use 2-3 strands at a time. I did it for one of my projects and it makes it look fuller.

    • @AJMAKES137
      @AJMAKES137  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The yarn I use is pretty thin, so two strands is perfect for me. Think of it like the thicker the yarn (whether you're using one, two, or three strands), the greater the yarn density on the rug. Three strands, from my experience, is a bit too much, but two is just right. But it all depends on the ply of your yarn. It's something you can experiment with :)

    how does one take wash/take care of a hand tufted rug?

    • @AJMAKES137
      @AJMAKES137  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I vacuum and spot treat. A carpet/upholstery cleaner can be used on some rugs too, but will likely shred up acrylic yarn. I’m going to make a video on this soon!

      I think she mentioned before she had it made!

    • @SamSam-esqe
      @SamSam-esqe 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      These frames can be built with wood from Home Depot or any lumber supply. The most important part are the carpet tack strips which are what will hold your backing cloth on the frame. Make sure when building one you make it bigger than you want the final piece to be since you can’t tuft all the way to the edge.
