this was SO helpful for a beginner like me. i have brain damage that impacts my cognitive learning, and tutorials that aren't super visual and don't explain every little detail are really hard to understand for me. this is maybe the 5th video i've watched on it and i finally understand how this process works!! thank you, tufting looks really fun and i think it'd be a great evolution for my artwork.

Have you heard "20 years in the Dakotas" by Hole? One of my all time favorite songs.

I can appreciate that. I was in a climbing accident with several small splinters of granite that broke off inside my temporal lobe. I learned to write again but my speech is not as good…and the headaches… I have so much trouble learning and relearning. I feel like a five year old in a college class for the simplest things. I saw these guns on Alibaba and thought I would check it out. The idea of making customer rugs for kids rooms that they design with crayon and paper…seems like a terrific way to pass my time…now that ‘they’ don’t trust me in the medical field anymore…life changes. We learn to cope.

I thank you for your videos. I just ordered mine and some other things and got $76 off using your code!! I’m a single mom, I just lost my job. I was looking at doing this for months but was fearful but I jumped out there, put my credit card info in and hit pay(my eyes was closed) 😂. But seriously I prayed and I’m trusting. 9:48 The phenomenon that AJ Makes is talking about here is known as “metamerism” in the field of color theory.
This is something more typically seen in neutral & near white colors. Two materials may appear to match under one type of light but not under a different light (sunlight vs. fluorescent for instance) due to the way the light refracts.
In this case, the cut ends of the yarn seem to absorb some light causing it to appear dingy compared to the looped yarn which is reflecting more of the light causing it to be a lighter, cleaner color (think of the difference between a pile of glitter vs a sheet of metallic Mylar: the sheet of material will appear evenly shiney where only some of the glitter fragments will appear shiney as others will be angled in ways that don’t successfully reflect as much light & therefore look dark compared to their neighbors).
It’s highly applicable in textiles as different fibers will also present this issue (for instance if you want to match white wool to white nylon: the natural wool will never be a bleached white, so to match the color, the nylon would actually have to be colored somewhat yellow and checked under different types of light. If you simply bought two materials labeled “white” the nylon will inevitably be whiter and brighter than the wool.

Sorry if someone has asked this, but are you able to shear a loop pile rug (like in your finishing videos)? It seems like this would essentially turn a loop pile rug into a cut pile rug, but maybe the shearing isn't as even as I'd expect and instead you'd end up with some mottled-looking finish? Thank you!!

It’s really a manner of preference I think, as the main difference in the finished product will be the appearance of the finished surface (the bumpy texture of looped pile vs. the fluffy texture of the cut pile).
The loop finish is similar to “Berber” type carpet pile whereas the cut is more like regular carpet pile.
      Hope that helps

My mom asked me what my husband I wanted for Christmas. Every year i say just worry about the kids. Or if you really want to things for my house. So the last 3 years. She has bought me stuff to build my craft room. As in i like to do everything. So she has bought embroidery machine, vinyl machine, then the last a press. So this year she already told me which is gonna be a tufting gun. She already got it in the mail. Now I see this video and didnt realize there were 2 different kinds. So now i have to check incase so we can send it back. Anyways. I love crocheting and have a good bit kf yarn. Someone gave me 2 bags full of vintage yarns. And I was going to give them to the nursing homes. But now I think I'll give half and keep half. Loll so does it matter what yarn is being used. I see lots of people using crochet acrylic yarn.
