I’m a leather craftsman/saddle maker. I use wool shears on sheep skin to level and trim the wool padding on the bottom of a saddle, along with other things I put sheepskin on such as rifle slings and occasionally some chaps. You won’t regret getting the shears, they are FAR superior than hair trimmers and leave a far better and even look. you can cut costs if you don't mind a more rudimentary / time consuming set up :) You could make your own frame (I've seen a few videos with rug makers just using a few pieces of wood and some nails). I hand draw all of my designs onto the cloth, you don't need to spend money on a projector unless you're really planning on making rug tufting your business/on a larger scale. It's really not that expensive if you do it as a hobby. She's really going for top of the line stuff. I got the cheap stuff for a fraction of the price and they look amazing. I'm q chef but I'm also an artist. I decided to give this craft arey because of all of the ideas that pop in my head. I found the gun on amazon. It took 2 months to arrive but it looks like a good one. I haven't use it yet but honestly doesn't look bad and it had good reviews. It was just so late, but again we are in a pandemic, it came from china, then was stock in New York for a while. I had to call for them to send it. I almost loose it, they where going to send the package back. Now I need the other materials. Thank you! It is a lot but not so much. I can spend the $1,000 easy. Thanks for this video!!!
Do you have any suggestions for doing the weaving by hand? For someone who is saving to buy the actual tufting gun. I would still love to get some practice while saving! Thanks!!!
Hey just wondering - Have you tried just using the rug adhesive (Roberts/AAT1132) to attach your felt backing instead of getting the spray adhesive? I’ve seen others do this and wonder if you experimented with this.
I watched this video and bought an AK-1 right after it. I anticipated it taking months to get to me so I did it real quick. I received it in 24 hours… I do live near Philly tho so I’m sure that helped. But just so everyone knows, they are in stock! Discount code worked too

I love your videos. I found you after purchasing a green gun from AliExpress. It arrives in two weeks and I couldn’t be more excited. I still need to find out where I will put my frame (my house has been taken over with other crafts.) lol My question to you is something that I don’t hear anyone talking about: hearing protection. How loud are these guns? It seems that working on a pattern for hours, more people should wear ear muffs? I know you have a different gun than the one I purchased. But what’s the sound experience with yours? Are you driving the neighbors crazy? 😂 💕
Let me know how it goes! I usually wear noise-canceling headphones. The guns can be pretty loud. I live in an apartment complex where it's common to hear construction going on, so I don't think it's an issue. Plus, my tufting room doesn't share any walls with my neighbors, so that helps!

I had to buy from amazon (because Im european and dont know any european store selling it, and buying from america adds about 50-70$) it takes like a month, I hope it goes well. Could I ask how long does it take on average to make one rug? Thanks!

Lovely video, I'm getting started with rug tufting and appreciate your walk through. For the mask, you should invest in a proper P95 NIOSH mask when working with things with VOCs. Simple cloth face masks aren't going to protect you and you'll eventually develop lung issues. I do a lot of work with resins, silicones, and toxic glues that also have VOCs and was taught to always wear one of these NIOSH masks. You can get replacement filters and they filter a lot of organic compounds, you basically smell nothing when you have this on. 3M makes these masks and they're a bit expensive to start with but they last forever and the replacement cartridges are fairly affordable. Anywho, looking forward to seeing more of your art! Your rugs are gorgeous.
I'm trying to make a purchase from Tuft the world on your recomendation, however, I clicked on the wrong machine (the loop). I went back before I purchased it and selected cut pile. However, there is no way that I can find to remove the loop pile from my order form. There is a way to do it if you are a guest and not logged in, so i've spent the last hour trying to find a number or a way to contact them, but there is NOTHING other than an email that said they will get back to me in 1 to 2 days... That doesn't seem like a good way to do business. I want to make a purchase from them and I can't cause I have to wait 2 days before they will get back to me. Do you have a way to contact them so I can ask a simple question and not have to wait 2 freaking days??!!
Try pet grooming clippers, I’d think a 40 blade (poodle feet) possibly a 10 or 15 blade (poodle face). Andies brand would probably work well. They’ll last much longer than people clippers and you can have the blades sharpened. You can find them online at pet supply links.
While I can see how the tufting fabric would be better with a gun, I feel like that'd be really bad for punch needle? Like I use a particularly loose monks cloth and I find sometimes when starting a project that there's so much give that the loops don't want to stay in place immedately and I have to pull them from the other side
Got gifted all the stuff a few years ago but have never set it up, I was going too but than I wanted to make a black rug, did the math and it’s like $300 in yarn
another great video! I'm actually extremely concerned about glue because I live in a small apartment and the windows do not open. is there anything you would recommend safety wise?
Since you don't have a space that is well ventilated- do you have an area outside you could go to? Even a park with a table would work as long as you have enough time for it to dry. At home- even if you wear a mask, those fumes will continue to exist in your home for hours if there isn't any ventilation.
@@SherittaNesbitt there really isn't a way for me to get my frame out of my apartment, and then on top of that I could not stay outside long enough for it to dry (especially because it is very cold right now). I haven't glued my first rug yet because I really don't know what to do.
If I was in your boat, I’d stick to wall hangings using pvc glue for a while. Unless you find an alternative adhesive with no VOCs or figure out a way to glue outside. I’ll let you know if I find any safer alternatives!!
@@AJMAKES137 thank you so much! I'd love to know if you find anything. As for glueing outside, how bad would it be to glue off the frame? I think I'd be able to glue outside if I could cut the piece off and then glue, but I know glueing is supposed to happen on frame.
Actually, you have a great point! I’ve seen one other tufter glue off frame, I would imagine you just have to be careful not to move the piece around too much to keep the yarn in place. Might run into the piece curling on the edges? But I think this could be a great alternative option for you given the circumstances. I say give it a try!
Majority of my friends are some type of creatives. Musicians, artists, fashion designers, photographers, video directors and rappers so I’ve been feeling stressed about finding my creative outlet and I’m pretty sure I’ve found it.

hello, great video, i looked all of them. I want to know if it's possible to do a big rug in different parts. and than sew them together .other wise we have to built a huge frame in wood. Thanks a lot. M-C

You’ll spend around $100 in yarn per square foot? Did I understand that correctly?
I had to buy from amazon (because Im european and dont know any european store selling it, and buying from america adds about 50-70$) it takes like a month, I hope it goes well. Could I ask how long does it take on average to make one rug?
Thanks!

can you please make a video about yarn and yarnconing
Thanks for the tips! I just bought a respirator, thank goodness
Thx for the tips. New subscriber here
This info is so helpful. Thank you!
Is it not possible to whipstitch with the AAT1132?
Certainly not by hand! It hardens pretty solid.
Wool shears will be much heavier and bulkier than pet grooming shears. Just a FYI from a pet groomer.
bonjour je viens de regarder la vidéo merci pour tous ces conseil !! 😊 je suis de france
Hey I'm just wondering where you get your yarn cones from, I'm finding it so difficult to find them 😔
There’s a link in the description box! Tuftinggun.com sells them
I love youuuuuu!!! Greetings from Croatia💙
While I can see how the tufting fabric would be better with a gun, I feel like that'd be really bad for punch needle? Like I use a particularly loose monks cloth and I find sometimes when starting a project that there's so much give that the loops don't want to stay in place immedately and I have to pull them from the other side
Hi, love your stuff and thanks for the info; if you don’t mind, how do you quote or price your rugs?
Got gifted all the stuff a few years ago but have never set it up, I was going too but than I wanted to make a black rug, did the math and it’s like $300 in yarn
Granted good yarn
How did you start out did you go small
So helpful! If you have a yarn winder, do you need the yarn cones?
Thank you for this video! Where can I get the cheapest tufting canvas ?
another great video!

How do you price your rugs
Great video , seems to me that everyone is now doing rugs that some people are selling them way to cheap ,idk how they even cover their expenses on material/time. 😬
hello, great video, i looked all of them. I want to know if it's possible to do a big rug in different parts. and than sew them together .other wise we have to built a huge frame in wood. Thanks a lot. M-C
Ma..this is great, but my challenge is , i'm in nigeria, how can i get all these
From what I understand, tuftinggun.com ships worldwide! So you should give that a try. And let me know how it goes. I don’t know much about suppliers in other countries, unfortunately.
Does someone knows somewhere to buy a tufting gun in Argentina? I can't find anywhere, I guess I would have to buy international
what are the dimensions on your frame?
You should put a box fan in your window to pull the smell out... You can also get a respirator.
I finally figured it out! You look exactly like amy adams! 🤗🤗
