I read Judy's book & recently re-watched her entire interview with Larry King. Judy Lewis turned out to be a surprisingly positive and worthwhile person. There was no self-pity and she never tried to trash her mother in any way. She felt she had a good mother and a happy life. In the end I actually felt sorry for Loretta Young. She was obviously very much ashamed & living with that kind of shame can be like a prison sentence. It's nice to know they both got to a good place in the end.
Judy Lewis passed away last year. She was a very attractive woman and the spitting image of her famous father. Her story is sad in so many ways, but she turned out an unspoiled child of famous parents. May she rest in peace.
I read her book and when finished I reached out to her and she reached back. On my birthday she sent me an birthday card with her autograph....dear lady...
According to Judy Lewis, Clark tried to see her multiple times, but Young told him to stay away, fearful that they would be seen together. You can't place all the blame on him.
@B L I stated my opinion and you are so busy trying to make me change my opinion. Get somewhere and sit down. I have my opinion which I am entitled to and stop harassing me over it. Get over yourself sounding like you are in love with a deceased celebrity.
I read Judy Lewis' memoir and it was VERY interesting. It gave me a totally different view of Loretta Young. She was a stunning woman, even in her later years, but, holy smoke, she had some serious issues. I think that the guilt over the Clark Gable affair and the unwed pregnancy really caused her life-long shame in which she spent the rest of her life trying to attone for.
Most people are jumping on Clark Gable for not acknowledging her, but Loretta Young didn't acknowledge that she was her biological child for a long time. That's why she said she "didn't know who she was" when she was about to get married in her 20s, because Loretta stuck to the story that she had adopted the little girl. They were both protecting their careers.
Young didn't want Gable to have ANYTHING to do with Judy. She even had her operated on at age 7 to change her Gable ears. She even lied to her future husband, telling him Judy was the child of Gable & her sister, actress Sally Blaine. She had a long list of affairs with actors, producers, directors, etc. She tried to get Spencer Tracy to divorce his wife & marry her before Gable & wanted superstar Gable to divorce his 17 years older wife who he married for her wealth & society connections before he made it. She's such a lifelong liar & hypocrite, who knows if she had any abortions from affairs with less desirable prospects than Gable.
Yes and also the great lengths people went through in those days to keep a so called illegitimate baby a secret was insane . My great aunt went to her grave defusing to tell her little sister she was her REAL MOM!!!
+BlondexBeth No. The moment I saw her, I saw Loretta. Her mother, was married to Mr. Lewis, and this was a one night stand. It had to be stifled because at that time, Loretta was a staunch Catholic, who set up the "homes for unmarried mothers," all over the country. I lived near St. Anne's home, which was run by nuns. When the baby was born, it was put up for adoption. This was a "must". The mother, who was usually in high school, would have been expelled from school. One must remember this was about 1949. The home was also a hospital. Doctors were there upon birth of the child.
+Beth Miletti The Hays Code was a list of guidelines for movies made in the US. It included how long a couple could kiss (no more than 6 seconds), the movie can not side with the bad guy, no drugs or blatant prostitution. Even though it was written in 1930, it wasn't enforced until 1934. During that time, there were plenty of films that were filled with sex, drugs, murder and alcohol.
Very much. She also looks like her mother a little bit but she truly looks like Clark Gable. All I can think of was Gable never had a child with Carole Lonbard; the live of his life.
Judy Lewis turned out pretty well, despite all of her identity problems while growing up, so Loretta Young must have done something right. Judy was a fine actress herself, working on the soaps THE SECRET STORM and GENERAL HOSPITAL (she played the adoptive mother of the young Laura Spencer). And later in life, Judy went back to school and became a clinical psychologist, specializing in family therapy and foster children. She used her life experience to help others. A gracious lady. RIP.
I love that clip from "Call Of The Wild" that Judy says shows her parents' love for each other - so true! You can see it, it's right there, & both had a lot of chemistry with their other onscreen partners in movies. I read Judy's book and I have a lot of respect and admiration for her and what she went through. What a shame she never really knew her father & never got the chance to know him - I think Loretta meant well but it caused more pain than anything. Judy resembles both of her parents.
Loretta Young may have kept Clark Gable away since her daughter was a secret. Perhaps she didn't want her daughter to be in the middle of a big scandal in the news.
@@jeanettesmith765 Yup. Lots more secrets in the fifties. If you even came out and admited that you were gay, your entire acting career would be destroyed, even in the sixties.
@@tiffsaver even in the 90’s. Ellen was chewed up and spat out after having coming out. Nobody wanted anything to do with her. Her saving grace was hosting the Emmys right after 9/11. So the stigma of being gay was around for a long time.
How do we know what kind of father he would have been if he had been able to see Judy all along? When one lie is told (that Judy was adopted) it necessitated many more to cover up the truth. I have heard the story that Clark "date raped" Loretta. This sounds like a story made up by a strict Catholic woman who had to find some way to assuage her guilt for having sex with a married man. If she had decided to have an abortion, it would have been 2 mortal sins for a Catholic woman. I saw an interview of Loretta's (I believe with Larry King) in which she spoke very highly of CG. Would a "date raped" woman make another movie with her alleged rapist? Just because LY was very beautiful with big eyes doesn't mean that she was an innocent victim. It was not a "casting couch" situation where CG controlled her career. Loretta should have told her daughter Judy about CG when he first met his daughter and not have waited until Judy was in her 20's. Most likely, CG was forbidden by Loretta to reveal that he was Judy's father because it would have ruined her career. She must have been very ambitious.
I knew Judy Lewis, and I tell you she had the same charisma and magnetism of her father, Clark Gable. She had to know who her father was before she was 23 as she says here. She is him, the same smile, shape of the face, the eyes. As much as a woman can resemble Clark Gable. Judy adored her mother as well.
@@SR-iy4gg Because she heard all the scuttle butt in the Hollywood community from an early age. She asked her mother repeatedly, because she knew he was her father. Not "some" movie star, a particular man, Clark Gable whether he was an actor, or plumber. She had his eyes, his mouth , the same shape of his face. To us they were movie stars, to her they were mom and dad first.
@@erniealderete2042 They would have gone silent around her though. You know, how you know people are talking about you. You walk into a room and there is suddenly silence. Judy had figured out Loretta was really her mother, but she did not know Clark was her father until her husband told the local "gossip" of Hollywood. It took her nearly a decade to confront her mother, who admitted it in 1966 It does happen too. I had a friend who thought her grandparents were her parents until age 20 when she found out her "sister" was her bio mom. A guy I went to school with thought his father died in Korea while his mother was pregnant with him, leaving his mother a widow, only to find out his father was not dead, and his parents were never married.
i think there was no question that she would keep her child but how conflicted loretta must have felt, being that loretta said clark gable had raped her and judy was the result of that.
@@kathleenmacellis7253 She didn't actually "say" it. I JUST WATCHED THIS MOVIE LAST NIGHT AND LORETTA'S GRANDSON IS ONE OF MY BFF'S. I GREW UP WITH HIM AND HE IS TALENTED AND GORGEOUS AND A OUTSTANDING FATHER. I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW MUCH SHE LOOKS LIKE HER PARENTS,..BOTH OF THEM!
That story is a movie in it self..always loved Gable & Young ..wonderful actors..and a beautiful daughter from The Call of the Wild..One of my favourite movies and a Jack London Fan...
Yes,she had his eyes, and the shape of the head is the same.I guess this WAS one of the worst kept secrets in Hollywood. Loretta Young" ADOPTED" a baby back in the day, after being away for "EXHAUSTION". Clark Gable and the cold, cold weather,WHAT else could you do?
I guess she did what was best at the time. Clark Gable was a womanizer and probably told her he would admit being the father. ..But loretta was a wonderful mother and kept her and kept Gables secret.
+randommental As long as he didn't kiss the woman before sucking on a breath mint or soak his dentures in Listerine. Greta Garbo never wanted anything to do with Gable & complained about his horrible breath. Add cigarette smell with someone who thinks dental hygiene isn't necessary if you have dentures & I could understand why she felt that way. Use Google to find a pic of Gable smiling before his first wife paid for him to get dentures. After seeing the pic, read a real biography & ask yourself if he would have still had the "good looks" had he not used his first wife to fund everything from his dentures to teaching him how to speak properly without yelling.
traumaqueen45 I've seen those pixs of a snaggle toothed Gable. But I'm sure he would have gotten them fixed. Studio bigwigs, told Rita Hayworth,to fix her hairline. The LOOKS & TALENT were there . I'm sure his wives did'nt complain with a pre-Hollywood Gable. You CAN'T put Talent into people.
Clark should have "stepped up to the plate" especially after meeting his daughter face to face (she looks so much like her parents). Very disappointed in him. Also feel sad Clark decided to missed out on knowing his daughter. His loss.
@@lindamay6296 Yeah, when will women finally realise their careers don't mean shit to anyone and they should devote their lives to making other people happy. I mean, really... 🤨
I am 70 years young and remember watching your mom and all her wonderful movies. I thought she was so beautiful, so elegant! Clark Gable never did much for me other then a nice looking man. I miss all those great movies, they sure don’t make them like that anymore. You certainly look like your mom and it is such a tragedy that you really never got to know your dad and to be able to call him dad? Why Clark Gable never admitted that you were his daughter, I’m guessing it was probably something in his contract? I hope you have had a wonderful life and beautiful everlasting memories!
Jeepergirl- Clark Gable was married to his Second wife at the time Loretta Young got pregnant. You’re right about the Contracts. They both had morality clause in their contracts. If either one was to admit to adultery they could have been fired for ‘breach of contract.’
@@仲夏夜数羊 Carole Lombard, who was his mistress in 1936 when he was married to Ria, an older woman, became his wife in 1939. Despite what people say about him not "being able to publically admit" to adultery, Gable often paraded with his flings and was pictured in movie magazines. People just make excuses for him all the time. Until Lombard's death in January 1942 he had affairs with other women and it is widely rumoured that he was having an affair with his co-star Lana Turner when his wife Carole was selling war bonds on the other side of the coast. Lombard was quite jealous and aware of his womanizing and was rushing back home in fear he was with Lana. She insisted on taking a plane which resulted in her death. Very sad. He was not a serious character as evidenced by his handling of Judy Lewis.
Watch 'Key to the City' (1951) another film Clark Gable & Lorreta Young made its captures the 'Loving Magic' between both stars yet again...Its simply brilliant to see the little inuendo Gable comments that he utters referring to 'his past affair'. Yes, even though Judy had a pretty good life and was happy, it wouldn't have happened that way if occurred in a different era, so it's still pretty tragic. I'm glad she came to peace with the whole situation and seemed to accept it all with great grace.
In her later years, Judy Lewis did some work for one of her mother's lifelong charities, the Saint Anne's Foundation, which operated a maternity hospital for unwed mothers, an adoption agency and counseling programs for pregnant teens. All the coins raised by Loretta Young's "swear jars" went there, too, and over time those coins added up to several thousands of dollars.
Actually, when Judy was talking about Loretta telling Gable to go away (on Larry King), I believe she was talking about the time she was still pregnant. She said that after he found out she was pregnant, he left his wife and wanted to marry her, and although she loved him, she was terrified that her secret would come out, so she kept telling him to go away, and eventually he did. The transcript can be found on Google. BTW, Judy's brothers have put a nice tribute for her up on youtube.
Judy was beautiful! a perfect mixture of Clark and Loretta. It's a shame she was deprived of having a relationship with her father. Clark wanted to be a father badly and here he had a daughter whom he neglected. He missed out on 25 years of fatherhood. It's sad the lengths Loretta went to keep this secret. Until the day she died she never publicly acknowledged that Judy was her biological daughter.
Hollywood, girls’desiring to be famous and adored, actors, directors, producers, decievied them and wrecked their lives. So called film stars loved adoration, but they were actors and took advantage of every opportunity:
@marcjusz Gable knew about his daughter, but if they had to keep it a secret from the press and public because both their careers would have been ruined. Gable would have probably been let go from MGM and Loretta would have been released from Fox. Their entire reputation was on the line and if they lost their jobs, what would they do? it was the depression.
Loretta Young really had character. Despite the objections of family (of course!) Loretta absolutely included Judy in her will same as her other children. I really think the world of her even more for that.
JUDY FAVORS BOTH LORETTA AND CLARK. DON'T BE TOO CRITICAL. LORTAA MAY HAVE TRIED TO DECEIVE EVERYONE BUT MORALS WERE FAR MORE STRICT. APPLAUD THE FACT SHE KEPT THE BABY AND RAISED HER IN A LOVING HOME. JUDY MOVED ON WITH HER LIFE WITH A FAMILY. SURELY THERE WAS FAR MORE POSITIVES THEN THAT NEGATIVE.
Yes, we can talk and moralize about the choices people make. We are not them and the 21 century is very, very different from the 1930s. There was only one perfect individual that walked the earth and that was the Christ. He did not judge the woman taken in the very act of adultery, but those who threw her down before him. Their own hearts condemned them.
If what I've heard and read about Clark Gable is true, he was an absolute ass to Loretta Young and his daughter. Absolute! Loretta Young was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen when I was a Youngster and my aunt looked just like her. I adored Loretta Young and my aunt all my life. So admired them both! And I miss them both.
I got goosebumps from the last scene in the video, with Loretta and Clark staring at each other. You can indeed see the love in their eyes, and it's remarkable. Yet, I still don't understand why he never accepted her as her (Judy) daughter, legally. It's a shame to think that he was a bad man, in real life...
Judy Lewis died in 2011. Some of what she says is incredibly naïve, confusing a lust affair with a love affair, and mistaking movie acting for real life. Still, if it made her feel better about herself and the way she was conceived, it was harmless fantasizing. Gable would nail anything pretty that moved. Carole Lombard used to come around the set to check on how things were going between her husband and a gorgeous newcomer named Lana Turner. Her worries weren't unfounded.
A Krenwinkle Maybe she wasn't being naive. It's possible that she just didn't want to think of her mother as being "easy". Remember, she WAS born in 1935 & to most people of that era, having a nice reputation was most important. Even her mother knew it would ruin her & maybe Gables careers, & that is why she "adopted" Judy.
kaylo9600 Of course Judy didn't want to think of her mother being what they call today a "ho." So she talked herself into a romantic version of her parents... two people genuinely in love, not just trying to keep warm while freezing their asses off because the kerosene lantern didn't work one night. She was trying, perhaps successfully-- it's often hard to tell if people believe what they say-- to be naïve, ignore reality.
Tbh even Marlene Dietrich would pick on Loretta and her secret affairs and her religion. She even joked, " every time Loretta Young sins, a Catholic church is built. Which explains why there's so many churches in los Angeles"
Deseree Garcia Judy Garland socked it to Loretta and her holy ways also, but then she made fun of many people. Much written about Lewis says that she found out about Gable being her father as a young woman, and in particular, from her fiancé. It's pretty silly. The moment Judy went to school, she heard about it from other kids That is another account I read, and the one I believe.
A Krenwinkle I kinda try to not bash people but Loretta was really weird in her religion. She was pretty and a little cuckoo even before she got pregnant with her strict religion and yet having affairs with people like Spencer Tracy. Yeah that's something I believe! What happened between Loretta and Clark was just sex, even Loretta quoted in her biography as a fling
I do not believe Clark Gable raped her if you look at them in the movies you could see the passion. I just wish he would have been in her life. Those were the way things were in those days but it was sad.
@gmaureen WOW I love this story. It's amazing how much Hollywood has changed from those days. Its remarkable how this story (of Judy Lewis birth) never got out. I grew up watching the Loretta Young show with my mom. We so enjoyed her grace, beauty and talent. Who knew she was carrying that awesome secret back then. What a "class act". R.I.P. Miss Lewis...as well as your mom, Miss Young...you are missed.
Gable's is the most solid performance in GWTW. He plays his character as an existential antihero. All the other leads seem dated, including brilliant Leslie Howard. His post-war movies like Command Decision are probably his best. It's been suggested that his frustration with Marylin Monroe on the Misfits lead to his lethal MI
I believe the story is that it was the stunts he did as opposed to Marilyn, whom I don't recall hearing was difficult on the set of The Misfits in the way that she was on Some Like it Hot.
Sad and curious story. It is understandable that in that culture had the parents (one married to another person) acknowledged the child, their careers would have been ruined. I am sure many stars had abortions in those days but that was not for Loretta Young so kudos to her for that. However very sad that the child could never know the true identity of her real parents during her childhood, one of whom she was living with. At least her stepfather seemed to be a caring man. As CG's daughter points out in her book, she always felt like she didn't really fit in. That is very sad indeed. She seems to have had an extremely gracious and dignified comportment considering the circumstances.
And just for the record: aside from feeling distant from her father, which, according to Judy, her mother tried to make up for, and experiencing the same difficulties a million other children of working mothers do, Judy Leis has said many times, that she had a good and happy life and always knew her mother loved her. She was well educated and given love affection by her mother and her siblings. Bottom line: Larry KING: Was she a great mother? JUDY LEWIS: She was a very good mother, yes.
Oh my goodness, she does look so much like her father. She's a spitting image of her father. Can't believe everything she went through, poor woman. So unfair to bring a child into the world in such a way.
If Loretta Young said that Gable raped her, it was to save her reputation as a devout catholic and her career. Plus, Clark Gable was probably married when she had her fling with him. That’s why she went to great lengths to hide her pregnancy and put the child in a orphanage for a time until she could execute her rouse of adopting her own child. In the 1930s, Hollywood had a morals clause and women did not have sexually open/public relationships. Nor did they openly indulge in extra marital affairs. It’s was so much more strict for women who had sexual affairs due to society’s moral codes.
Horrible that she grew up without knowing her father and living a lie. I can't imagine being a mother telling my child they're adopted for the sake of my career, what about Judy having a healthy relationship with her parents? I'm disappointed in Clark and Loretta not publicly acknowledging their child but I'm glad Judy found out the truth better late than never.
The careers CAME first I guess. She met him at 15 .I'm surprised Clark Gable was'nt more loving towards Judy Lewis. His was loved by his mother, but she died .The story was his stepmother LOVED AND ADORED HIM .
+Bri nln Their careers didn't come first. If Loretta Young would have claimed Judy when she was born, she would've been labeled a slut, a woman who broke up marriages, her daughter a bastard, and would probably never be able to get a decent job again. It was the only reasonable thing to do. Because it was the 1930s!!! And Clark Gable never acknowledged Judy. He died before she even knew he was her father and she saw him once in her whole life. Loretta Young was smart and did the best thing she could to ensure that her daughter could leave a good life without shame.
I think the problem is that a lot of people these days don't understand what many words really mean. If Loretta Young had gone around telling unwed mothers they were bad people who would burn in hell, then, yes, she would have been a "hypocrite," but there's no evidence that she did this. I did find this quote of hers: "Never say never about anything. Except sin, of course, and even then you won't be able to keep your word because you're human and we're all sinners." That's not hypocritical.
No one can say. Mr. Gable knew many women over the span of his life and married five times. It is ironic when people put their personal needs above personal responsibility, whatever the times.
Fluffy.... How do you know Lombard was the true love, or real? How do you just walk away from her like that!? Meet her the one time... 1ce? Do you think he watched her from afar?
Loretta Young was a very lovely woman when she was younger, it wouldn't be difficult to see how Clark Gable fell in love with her. Sadly Judy Lewis died in 2011.
Clark Gable was Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, etc. combined and on steroids. He was literally the biggest movie star in the world, and maybe of all time. Of course his ego was huge, he was also from a different era where actual monogamy in marriage was not a reality in his social class. I'll always love him as Rhett, but that fact he was a flawed man is a let down. You want those kinds of people to be the best of us, they rarely are.
I’m glad she at least got to meet him and spend some time with him however brief. It is sad that Loretta was so blindsided by religion and men telling her what to do that she really couldn’t be true. I hope everyone found happiness and hopefully they are all reunited up above
He ignored that beautiful girl/child and all she wanted was to have her daddy. Then God took the thing Gable loved the most, Carol Lombard, his wife. It always seemed like God's justice.

@cutandpaste1 I'm 15 and love old movies there the only thing i watch. I wasn't raised on them but i found them to be more real and interesting then anything made today
Well, I love Loretta Young, such a great actress & amazingly beautiful woman. We have to remember that those were different times... she could have given her up completely, but she couldn't bare to leave her child, so she found a way to keep her. It's a tragic story, but at least Judy had a loving mother, and she had a good life. I'm glad Clark saw her one. Clark & Loretta did another moving together, called "Key to the City". I think that's when he went to see Judy.
Yes it was. He only saw Judy twice in her life: Once when she was a baby sleeping in a dresser drawer & he picked her up & held her. He also gave Loretta money to buy her a crib so that she would have a proper bed. I think that was before the adoption ruse. The second time he saw her was when she was about fifteen years old during the time that Key to the City was being filmed. That was the last time they saw each other. Sadly, he didn't even get to see his first grandchild, who was born a year before his death. Judy wanted for him to see her daughter, his first grandchild, & it never happened.
That's true, let he who is without sin cast the first stone. I don't get where the hate for Loretta Young is coming from. She didn't spend her life judging other sbut she was human like the rest of us. Nobody said she was right for the way she handled everything with her daughter. actually I admire her for being open about her religious beliefs. A lot of Catholic celebrities are afraid to do that now.
This video or the content of it has been around for a long time. I heard about it over forty years ago. I have known quite a few movie actors and actresses, writers and producers. Trust me, they really are no different than the average person when it comes to values. The public puts them on pedestals and can't seem to understand that underneath they have the same insecurities as most of us have. I liked James Stewart very much. A nice man. Dean Martin from the short time I was around him was also very nice. Also got to know a number of supporting actors and actresses. Let's not judge these people. It's not our place.
I think a lot of the public has better values, but they remain anonymous. Please don’t speak for me! But you know if it is true that Loretta Young was acquaintance raped then her values were extremely high and commendable!
You have to give Ms. Young credit . Not for the lie of her daughters parentage . But for not giving the baby away and bringing up the child in the privilege of her fame , wealth and love .
Fluffymuffy Pelican I agree alot of it is lacking class. Good on-screen chemistry back then and actors and actresses respected each other and let each other play off there strengths. I mean today there i still chemistry good too but it was just different back then ya know. Alot more respectful and classy like. One of the many reasons i like the old era. Today is still good just different.

You are correct
Umm yeah, when you adopt someone...you know who they are. She should've been hospitalized for dementia.

Yes and also the great lengths people went through in those days to keep a so called illegitimate baby a secret was insane . My great aunt went to her grave defusing to tell her little sister she was her REAL MOM!!!
She looks exactly like Clark Gable, her father., the eyes, everything.
RIP, Judy. I saw her back in 2001 on the Larry King show. It was remarkable to me how much she looked like both her parents, and I do mean remarkable.
She looks exactly like her father... same eyes, facial features, even the ears lol
+Beth Miletti Also: the Hays Code.
What is the Hays Code? Anything to do with Helen Hays?
+Beth Miletti It's "Helen Hayes" to you. And there's plenty of mentions of the Hays Code around the Internet. Try Wikipedia.,
+Beth Miletti The Hays Code was a list of guidelines for movies made in the US.
She does look so much like him.
she had her ears done...just like him lol
Rebecca Gutierrez des
does she EVER!
Wow, she looked just like her mother. You can see the resemblance to both.
Now THIS is a "story"!!! I'm a huge fan of Gable's, I only wish he would have been as good a father as he was an actor.
They are actors, sincerity is not in their culture, their life is an act:
Loretta Young may have kept Clark Gable away since her daughter was a secret. Perhaps she didn't want her daughter to be in the middle of a big scandal in the news.
@@jeanettesmith765
Yup.
It amazes me that Clark Gable did not keep in touch with his daughter.................

Why would she have known? She'd been told she was adopted from an orphanage. Why would she think some movie star was her biological father?

She seriously looks more like her father than his son does. Uncanny resemblance.
***** Yes, ALL he had to say was: YOU WANNA?
Loretta Young was beautiful. Growing up I saw her movies and series. So talented and graceful she was a lady. 💜
Clark should have "stepped up to the plate" especially after meeting his daughter face to face (she looks so much like her parents). Very disappointed in him. Also feel sad Clark decided to missed out on knowing his daughter. His loss.
Publicity department gives actors an overrated confidance, they cannot be taken seriously:
Loretta (staunch Catholic) prevented it... don't blame him. She set up the elaborate public charade and wasn't about to back down from it.

One of life's ironies is Loretta's well-known holier-than-thou attitude vs. her real-life behavior of committing adultery.

People just make excuses for him all the time. Until Lombard's death in January 1942 he had affairs with other women and it is widely rumoured that he was having an affair with his co-star Lana Turner when his wife Carole was selling war bonds on the other side of the coast. Beautiful daughter! ♥️
I think what Loretta did was very courageous and showed the love she had for her daughter.
I briefly knew her. Such a nice, decent woman. Real. Down to earth.
I think she was very silly woman. And very catholic. Probably made Clark dizzy and he walked away.
great!! Love clark gable!! Could you post the rest of the documentary?

Yes deprived is a good word. Gable lost out and so did his daughter of loving father.
She treat her daughter like trash
Gable never did include her in HIS will or acknowledge her as his daughter. JERK
I watched her TV show as a child in the 60's. One of my favorite shows.
Her mother obviously loved her and didnt want to give her up,hence the 'adoption'.
Who the hell is "LORTAA"???

@gmaureen WOW I love this story. It's amazing how much Hollywood has changed from those days. Its remarkable how this story (of Judy Lewis birth) never got out. Do you have the full documentary? This looks very interesting. I love Clark Gable.
"you can see it on the screen, the love they feel for each other'. THEY'RE ACTORS. THAT'S THEIR SPECIALTY, ACTING SO IT LOOKS REAL.
Sleeper Liv Tyler had a similar situation, she didnt know Steve Tyler was her father untill she was older.
I am happy for you , you have two of the best parents you could have, hugs
Surely he couldn't deny paternity. Look at her, no question he was the father.
Bottom line:
Larry KING: Was she a great mother?
She is the image of both. Has great features!!
Very touching. God bless your family.
When you watch the "I've got a secret"-tv episode with Judy Lewis, you might get blown away by her beauty.
Judy was so pretty. She looked just like her daddy...he couldn't have denied her if he tried!😂😂😂
There is something omitted in this - Gretchen/Loretta actually did not want sexual intercourse with Clark and yet he date raped her. Very tragic.
That's what was said after Judy was dead. We don't know the truth it's an allegation.
I think the problem is that a lot of people these days don't understand what many words really mean. If Loretta Young had gone around telling unwed mothers they were bad people who would burn in hell, then, yes, she would have been a "hypocrite," but there's no evidence that she did this. I did find this quote of hers:
"Never say never about anything. Except sin, of course, and even then you won't be able to keep your word because you're human and we're all sinners."
That's not hypocritical.
The era 1935 kept a lot of secrets, and reputation was everything. Hard to believe but true.
Wow! Hello smiling face 👋, Your post and profile photo really got me attracted to you. Hope you don't mind if we be friends...?

Loretta Young was a very lovely woman when she was younger, it wouldn't be difficult to see how Clark Gable fell in love with her.
Sadly Judy Lewis died in 2011.
It's a no brainer she should've looked in the mirror to know who her father was.
"that should really couldn't be true" Huh? What are you talking about?
Very common for that time period. Downton Abbey gave us 2 such stories.
He ignored that beautiful girl/child and all she wanted was to have her daddy. Then God took the thing Gable loved the most, Carol Lombard, his wife. It always seemed like God's justice.
God does not work that way. You believe in evil. You are a demon.

Seriously, she looks like Clark Gable in a wig. Why did nobody figure this out?
That's true, let he who is without sin cast the first stone. I don't get where the hate for Loretta Young is coming from. She didn't spend her life judging other sbut she was human like the rest of us. Nobody said she was right for the way she handled everything with her daughter. actually I admire her for being open about her religious beliefs. A lot of Catholic celebrities are afraid to do that now.
This video or the content of it has been around for a long time. I heard about it over forty years ago. I have known quite a few
movie actors and actresses, writers and producers. Trust me, they really are no different than the average person when it comes to values. The public puts them on pedestals and can't seem to understand that underneath they have the same insecurities
as most of us have.
I liked James Stewart very much. A nice man. Dean Martin from the short time I was around him was also very nice. Also got to know a number of supporting actors and actresses.
Let's not judge these people. It's not our place.
Chuck Berger h
True, but we're looking at and offering strong opinions upon them, the way we'd do ... each other.
You don't see chemistry like that anymore.
nowadays its all half hearted lust.
Today is still good just different.
his eyes get so soft when she touches his hair. I know Loretta said it was a one time thing, but, um...really? Not credible. All water under the bridge now anyway.
yankeecitygirl I guess Loretta figured that adultery was less of a sin if you only did it "once". LOL! Sure Loretta, we beleive you!
Back in those days people's reputations could get even more tarnished back then easy. Back then it was REAL easy to get black balled/black listed in hollywood certain studios ran the shows back then people were with certain studios not as free lance as it is now alot has changed you had to be extra careful back then so much stuff could easily tarnish your image.
LOL Tabitha, and they are referred to as rosary beads not rosemary :-) maybe the fact that they are use to count the number of Hail Marys got you confused, your comment made smile. You bring an excellent point, indeed she does need to be commended for both facts that you brought up, specially considering that she was in Hollywood. The terrible pressures of those times must have been extremely stressful. Paddle has been put away :) Thanks for not insulting me as a person like others here have.
Loretta young is/was my grandfathers cousin. The big eyes definitely run in our family clear down to my granddaughter..
Gable was just answering The Call of the Wild!
