this video really teaches you how to live in the present. Our minds go from one direction to the next because of our imagination with stress and worry and they distract us from experiencing the present with peace. You're a great teacher Noah!
Noah is saying as long as you understand the concept of not believing your thoughts than u be happy while seeking validation or living a passive lifestyle and just let life flow once u fully understand it doesn't matter how u choose to cope with life u can be free because u understand the difference between imaginationn and reality.
I was skeptical when I first started watching this video at first because I thought the message was going to be in contrast to the other material. As I listened more, I realized that it is not and brings us to a greater sense of awareness about who we are. Awareness, including observation and questioning, and then acceptance is what brings us peace. The more we avoid these, the more we prolong our suffering.
With awareness are you not able to see thoughts flow through your mind I mean as they appear and disappear.Soon enough one gets to know which thoughts will waste your energies and the ones that will make you feel better so that you have a choice.Surely you cannot control the thoughts that arrive or appear in your mind , the mind as I see it is like a supermarket with customers arriving and leaving but a vigilant security guard (awareness ) knows who is a shop lifter and thus makes the shoplifter aware that he/she is being watched and soon the shoplifter leaves the store....
your words are calming to me and that feels real enough Mr Noah :) for as a child I would find comfort humming that song " row, row, row your boat gently down the stream...merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream."
Thanks you really help me understand why I feel the way I do. I think I can come to peace and be happy with myself. So thanks again for making these videos. I will share with others that are going thru the same thing.
Noah, you teach that our thoughts cause our suffering and that to end our suffering we must question the validity of our thoughts...but now you're saying we can't control whether we believe our thoughts! So what am I supposed to do to find happiness and peace? Should I actively question my thoughts or should I passively allow my thoughts to happen until they are removed from me?
Belief isn't a choice. Once you truly disbelieve something, then you disbelieve it. You can't force it, you have to be convinced that it isn't true. That's what his book helps you do. You can't WANT it all day long, but until you go through the process to actually not believe it, you are just wasting energy. Hope that makes sense. There may be some thoughts you can't disbelieve. I think that's what he's getting at
but there is bad and good hurting someone is bad helping is good. having bad thoughts like judging people or just hate and being mean and saying its bad and believing it is a good thing. and i can control to choose to do the good thing or the bad thing and actions are based on thoughts
wow ....this is exactly what I needed today. I cant get enough and please help me so I can stop this downward spiral...thank you so much for sharing this online. I can feel some relief after viewing several videos :) You are so brave and so gentle in the wise way you deliver this simplistic message. you may have saved a life today, thanks again Noah... my new hero from the web :)
Hello sir in all ur videos it is finally mentioned that thought is the basic reason..kindly guide us how to stop attention towards thoughts and live happily... Also guide us how to stop bad habits arising due to unwanted thoughts Pl...
Hi Ignozi, I understand where you're coming from. But, look at your example. Is it true that if someone wants to lose weight, they can always get themselves to go to the gym? Or if someone wants to stop eating unhealthy foods, that they can just get themselves to stop eating it? If we controlled our actions then we would always do what we wanted, and never do what we don't want to do. But, clearly that's not the way things actually work in life.
I agree with you. Sometimes it's best to be guilty because we're not ready to accept nonduality or the non-existance of "good " and "bad". The part of being guilty I assume is hard is understanding that without these psychological thoughts (as Noah mentions) we actually are naturally at ease without suffering and without causing suffering to others. We assume we need a line to understand good and bad. But we're by nature meant to be at peace and loving. Something I have trouble seeing. This video seems to be a difficult concept because we assume we are our thoughts, but we can't be, because then we wouldn't know that we're thinking. I wonder if @Noah could make a video/blog post/book about Intuition and what a Thought is.
Noah Elkrief sometimes we do things we might not want to at that moment but still do it like working out, eating healthy etc and end up been glad we did it
I have to say i did find immediate relief in this video tho because i know we’re not out thoughts sometimes we believe them and sometimes they happen to quickly and turn to emotions then you feel sad/guilty for not have been able to disbelieve that thought, I just happened to be going through this at this moment like a depressed feeling and when I heard you say that we don’t control what we disbelieve It brought me a sense of peace and i became present
Hi Noah, I've been watching your videos for a while and definitely see the logic in what you say. I see that thoughts are the cause of suffering and I myself have experienced peace and happiness when I have been without thoughts or have disbelieved them. However, do you think it's possible that we are actually supposed to experience thoughts and react to them. I can't help feeling like it may be unwise to choose to start disbelieving thoughts. An example - let's say you choose to walk down a dark alley as it is a quicker route home than taking the more safer route by a main road. Before you make this choice a thought pops up in your head that says "this could be dangerous " or "I might get mugged". In this moment the only fact of the situation is that this particular route will get you to your intended destination quicker. Therefore you disbelieve your thoughts and proceed to walk down the alleyway... you end up getting robbed or even murdered. Looking at your guidance from this point of view, makes me feel as though choosing to disbelieve thoughts is potentially dangerous. Maybe you have peace for a while... but at what cost?
you could get mugged down the dark ally or you could avoid getting hit by a car if u took the sidewalk. i perform a simple risk analysis and take a path in peace as i dont truely know what is better for my life and disbelieve the stories as im walking.
Aloha Noah, I am a recent subscriber who has found your videos enlightening and quite helpful. First and foremost, thank you for providing your insights and sharing with the world. If I may, I would like to pose a question or post a concern just for this one topic of not being able to control or disbelieve your thoughts. Although I agree we don't control the spontaneous generation of our thoughts, because we have all had weird random thoughts to come to mind, and say “whoa where did that come from” or think “what was that all about.” It is critical that people become aware of not giving power to those thoughts by permitting them to nest in their head. Much of what you have shared in other videos has been liberating and therapeutic in giving people insights and empowerment to champion those negative, destructive, powerless, disturbing, sickening, creepy, etcetera thoughts. Unfortunately, mass murders and serial killers are the stuff of unchecked thinking and stories over time. It's an incarceration of the mind to criminal behaviors. Would you reconsider if this video truly gives peace, love, and light to helping others? It appears you are aware of the power of your words and have a well written disclaimer from any impact or actions of others that may generate from believing what you are saying is indeed fact. This presentations and topic seems muddled and under developed in comparison to much of the other information you have shared. Sorry for the lengthy first response, you have a gift and my sincere appreciation to you for allowing others to be blessed by it. As a follow up to your videos I also purchased your Amazon book. Just delving into it, so far so good - awesome piece of work-- masterful Noah! Mahalo Nui Loa, ~Jubilee
Jubi Lee Hi Jubilee, glad you've been enjoying my work. If you believe you control something, then you will blame yourself when you fail. If you believe you control whether you believe thoughts, then you will blame/shame yourself every time you have an unwanted emotion. That adds an extra layer of suffering on top of whatever suffering you already had. The disclaimer is not meant to avoid liability for people hearing what I say as fact, but rather from misinterpreting what I am saying. Separately, if you believe anything I say, it will cause suffering. But if you directly discover anything that I speak about, you will discover much more peace and freedom. It is harder for you to discover the truth of what I am saying in this video because, right now, you are not incentivized to discover it. With the other videos, discovering what I am saying will help you lose your suffering, so you are open to it. You view this video as convincing you that you don't have power to lose your suffering, and you want to keep the belief that you do have power. But, after you try to disbelieve your thoughts, and lose your suffering enough, you will inevitably fail many times. Once that happens, you will start to blame yourself, then you will be more open to hearing the message in this video.
Or what thoughts we believe, than does that imply that we have no control over our actions? Then, in reality, we have absolutely no control over our lives? Everything is happening just as its meant to be happening?
You said it, not me haha. But, that is the implication isn't it? But don't believe me. Look for yourself. If our choice of actions is created by what thoughts we believe, and we don't control what thoughts pop up or what thoughts we believe... then we must not control our actions. However, we certainly have an illusion of choice.
This is mind boggling, yet somehow it makes sense. But in my day to day life, I find that I forget this repeatedly. However, I did observe as I blamed others or felt guilty about something, and I remembered that I or "they" have no control over what is happening, then I felt a certain peace, and more presence automatically. What about enlightened/awake people? If you have no thoughts, then do you just purely take actions based on instincts? This (instincts verses mind) is hard to distinguish sometimes. I remember you told me once that it is much easier to help people become present than to help them see what is coming from instinct verses mind/ego. Thank you, Noah!
Noah Elkrief Your videos do help me to find peace, and I want to thank you for that, however I do have a few questions. If our thoughts are the reason for our actions and we do not control our thoughts, we essentially have no control over anything we do. This is something I have a hard time understanding. I have always believed that individuals, right or wrong, not only have a choice, but they can have thoughts that determine the outcome of that choice through their ability to reason. For example, say someone thinks, "I should buy a dog." We have the ability to reason and determine whether or not we should; we can weight the pros and cons, and ultimately make a decision based on thoughts that are in themselves based on the reasoning we put into them. Therefore, as much as I want to believe we have no control over our thoughts as it seems to be peaceful, I cannot ignore our ability and responsibility to reason, in which it seems we do have control over our thoughts. I am not sure if this makes any sense, but if you have any thoughts or answers on this matter it would be much appreciated!
Fadi Daban you have never had a thought come into your mind and it scared the crap out of you??? Hell yes but its just a thought kinda like how your dreams are when your asleep....we just learn to pick and choose what we hold onto.... our perceptions are everything aren't they? If we don't question ourselves on that eternal level then holy crap!!! I better keep my own thoughts in check!!!
Here what I understood so far (I'm studying your teaching most o the time in my head) we feel pleased when we are distracted from thoughts, then when we sit with ourselves , automatically we start feeling emotions based on the thoughts we have (whether it's boredom etc) so you told me in another post that we have to sit and look into our thoughts and disbelieve them, yet in this video you say we don't have to, is this some sort of paradox ?
The paradox is that when you strongly try to reach peacefulness, that doesn't work, but when you don't try it at all the probability of happening is very small as well. That's why everyday meditation without wanting to get somewhere or without a goal is so important. You try, but you don't try.
We have to look into our thoughts and questioning them because many times we can't just distract ourselves from them, but if we know the thoughts are not truth then they won't come back and bother us.
I really love all of the videos, but I don't understand this one. We should disbelieve thoughts. But I am not in control what thoughts I disbelieve? So what should I do??
Hi Noah, So first you said we recognize that emotions are created by thoughts, then you said by disbelieving thought we we stop that emotion, then you said that disbelieving thought sometime may not be what's best for you because sometime we can't disbelieve them.So in other words, it doesn't matter what you feel sometimes, maybe it's. it really that bad as we may think, Am I looking at things clearly here ?
Hi Noah. Does meditating every day make it easier to create that "gap" between thoughts and feelings? In other words, does meditating every day make it easier for us not to get caught up in painful/unhelpful thought stories? -Morgan
Well I still have negatiive thoughts but I understand a little more clearly, regarding the question I did before, I dont think it really matters because there is no thing as a right ammount of effort, if you believe the thought than you will experience the sensation and you will be kind of confused, but if you dont believe it, it doesnt really matter
sir I've a strong desire of getting something but i didn't get it till now.So you think that is the reason for my suffering ? or not disbelieving my thoughts
Hi I have a question. I seem to find that thinking helps me to see through my thoughts. For example I thought one woman was bad because she didn't tell me about side effects of my medication. I thought "so she would rather I suffer to make money". And I just thought that was "bad" that she would sacrifice my health for money. How do I get over the thought that she would continue to do something that hurt me just to make money. And then that continues with all people. How could parents put children on drugs which take away their emotions just so they can control them? In nature one animal kills another, i can't say its "bad" but it makes me think of animals as selfish. I know humans eat animals too, and even this makes me feel we are all "bad", because we would sacrifice an animal just so we can eat tasty food. It just makes me sad to see how "bad" we are. I need help i think because maybe I am misunderstanding something?
He's just putting info out there. Expecting to base his info on whether people are ready or not is not his responsibility. There's no way of knowing whether individuals are ready or not.
Was not the world n everything n everyone in it created by the mind imagination n thoughts n feeling of god n man before it was a reality to god or man did they not see it with the mind before the saw it with their eyes in realty did they not feel it with their hearts before they made it with their hands or touched it in reality
***** I apologize if I offended you or anyone else about this. The context of my comment wasn't to offend or persuade anyone in believing God exists. Whether or not you believe is up to you, but my intention was really to ask Noah what he thought about it and for clarity since he seemed like he was spiritual from a few other videos I watched. I guess I should of been a little bit more specific about my question. I was trying to keep it short. Now that I think of it, I guess he meant based on what we value and believe as individuals, regardless of whether or not any of us are considered religious or spiritual. It's been a while now, so he might not even answer anyway. It's not something I'm not too concerned with. Just a thought I had at the time.
***** Thanks! I didn't expect that I would inspire anyone in my comment. I made a mistake in the comments when I wrote it. I thought I deleted it so I can make it clearer that I was responding to your comment. I'm going to try again. Otherwise, ignore it and refer to either one of them since they pretty much mean the same thing. Have a nice day as well ^_^.
+TwilightLaceDream For those that may be confused about my above comments, I asked Noah, "Not even God?" and there was bit of a misunderstanding. While trying to delete a comment that sounded similar to my response, I deleted my question by mistake, which is why it isn't there anymore.
Aren't we supost to have all thoughts in our minds n aren't we supost to have feelings from those thoughts that lye within our imagination do not those thoughts n feelings within ours minds serve a purpose in our being n is not things invented n created into realty from those thoughts n feelings n from the imagination n the knowledge that lies in our minds do not we see in our minds n feel it in mind before we build or invent it into this realty of here n now was not the things that were built here on earth n invented from some of peoples thoughts n imaginations before they built or invented or created them with their hands upon this earth did not the take those thoughts n feelings n create many of today's realities that we see touch smell n visit n live in n with today
"We don't control what we do"....really? Noah I've watched most of your videos, some several times, but this one is just silly. Most of us may prefer to stay in bed all day, but if we don't go to work, we lose our livelihood. People choose to stuff themselves with junk food. people choose to buy unnecessary things to clutter up their living space. people choose to watch mindless television.people choose to buy lambourginis inistead of helping sick children somewhere from dying. people choose to live with pets. people choose to get a certain tattoo, and when conditions allow, people choose to go to school. people choose to watch this video! while diseases, mental or physical could interfere with abilities, discipline is something every human being is capable of acquiring.
I first agreed with you, but think about what he continues to say. if we were in total control, if we were to act how we wanted at all times, then we would ONLY do the things that we want to do. He raises a good point.
this video really teaches you how to live in the present. Our minds go from one direction to the next because of our imagination with stress and worry and they distract us from experiencing the present with peace. You're a great teacher Noah!
remember you are not your thoughts, you are not the stories you tell yourself, you are not your mind. It helps me

thank you so much man you have saved my life i have been having a rough time and right now you have alleviated me and i thank you !!!

Aloha Noah,
I am a recent subscriber who has found your videos enlightening and quite helpful. First and foremost, thank you for providing your insights and sharing with the world. If I may, I would like to pose a question or post a concern just for this one topic of not being able to control or disbelieve your thoughts. but i should keep trying everyday to raise the posiblity?
Alan Rubinoff Does it get easier? what i mean is , once you can disbelieve thoughts easier , than it is faster ?
Well I still have negatiive thoughts but I understand a little more clearly, regarding the question I did before, I dont think it really matters because there is no thing as a right ammount of effort, if you believe the thought than you will experience the sensation and you will be kind of confused, but if you dont believe it, it doesnt really matter
sir I've a strong desire of getting something but i didn't get it till now.So you think that is the reason for my suffering ? or not disbelieving my thoughts
Awesome, thanks
Superb video
Perhaps a warning or something before watching this video? Not everyone looking for help is ready to accept this.
He's just putting info out there. Expecting to base his info on whether people are ready or not is not his responsibility. There's no way of knowing whether individuals are ready or not.
ahhh peace!!
I don't get it 🤔 now i feel i am nothing and and i am not smart and i don't know were i belong lol

Doesnt this video kind of say that the advice you give in the other videos doesnt work, because its not in our control to disbelieving thoughts? 0:-)
Aren't we supost to have all thoughts in our minds n aren't we supost to have feelings from those thoughts that lye within our imagination do not those thoughts n feelings within ours minds serve a purpose in our being n is not things invented n created into realty from those thoughts n feelings n from the imagination n the knowledge that lies in our minds do not we see in our minds n feel it in mind before we build or invent it into this realty of here n now was not the things that were built here on earth n invented from some of peoples thoughts n imaginations before they built or invented or created them with their hands upon this earth did not the take those thoughts n feelings n create many of today's realities that we see touch smell n visit n live in n with today
what are you talking about "believing stories"? are you talking about being gullible?
No, stories are thoughts
+Daniel Chappell yeah but we can sill control some things, like set a goal and get it done or plan stuff
Free will is an illusion, if you born into a criminals family you might make exactly the same choice as the criminal.
