Can't believe there's no better video of this game. It seemed like the whole game hinged on the 17 yard 3rd & 10 pass to Baschnagel. Nothing had gone right for the Buckeyes from the 1st quarter until that pass late in the 4th. Then, like magic, everything goes right for them. Great memory.
True but I think Minnesota got rooked worse than Michigan when Indiana was voted by the ADs to the Rose Bowl in '67. (New Year's Day '68) Both teams tied for the conference title and the Gophers beat Indiana in their game.
@@stephaniegormley9982 there was a 3 way tie 👔 for first in Big Ten 😳 in 67.Purdue got a share along with Indiana and Minnesota. Maybe it came down to overall record
@@nathaniellathy6559 No it was a vote of the Big Ten Athletic directors. Contrary to what Michigan claimed in '73, the AD's voted every year from 67-'74 on their participant in said game. Often it was a formality because one team was so dominant. (OSU in 68, Mich in '71) Their reason for why can't be determined absolutely but it was thought that since Minnesota had gone in 61 & 62 and Indiana had never gone, they got the majority of the vote.
@@stephaniegormley9982 justification voting for Indiana sounds like because Minnesota and Purdue were there more recently. That didn't work for Michigan in 73. It was the tiebreaker which sent Iowa instead of Ohio State in 81.Probably just as well Buckeyes wouldn't have beaten Washington either. They were lucky to beat Navy in Liberty Bowl.
Too bad Cornelius Green didn't make the plays when woody hayes really needed him to. Like I said in previous posts, woody hayes should have more national championships but from 1969-75 his players and assistant coaches always choked in the big games or leading up to those important games. Especially Cornelius green and Archie griffin in 1974 and 75. When I watch videos about woody hayes it frustrates the hell out of me because he really deserved better execution from his so called great players in the 70s. One rose bowl victory and 4 defeats (1970, 73, 75, and 76) unbelievable!! Maybe he should have recruited more players from the south 🤔!!!
And he never lost any Bowl Games in 50s and 60s. Not even at Miami..He deserved better in 70s. Both 70 (regular season) and 73 (after 74 🌹) teams could have been voted No. 1. Better execution would have helped. Letting Cornelius Greene audible didn't always work either.
Ohio State should have been national champs 1973, 1974 and 1975. The thing is Michigan should have been national champs as well in 1973 and 1974 if not for a missed FG in both years. The thing is in those years, USC, Alabama and Notre Dame were just as good. Too bad we never got to see a playoff during those years.
This was my Dad's freshman year at Michigan. He claims it to be the toughest loss the team took in his career; more so than the Charles White phantom touchdown in the Rose Bowl. As mentioned in the beginning, this was the first year that more than one team in the B1G could go to a bowl game. With that said, the Orange Bowl was not much of a consolation prize as they got matched up with Oklahoma and the Sellman brothers who ended up winning the National Championship that year. There was no way they were going to let Ohio State get away with one again. Beat Ohio state and went to the Rose Bowl the next 3 years.
“The Orange Bowl is a consolation” the utter arrogance in calling the Orange Bowl a consolation, at least the Orange Bowl wasn’t a California team beating down on a Midwest team every damn year.
It was. The Rose Bowl was the premier reward for Midwestern teams and fans. The scenery, weather, the parade. The whole thing. The Orange Bowl was a good bowl in warm weather, actually warmer than Pasadena. But, it just didn't hold the charm to Midwesterners. The Rose Bowl was like when The Wizard of Oz went from B&W to Color.
The 75 team beat three quality teams in UCLA, Penn State, and Michigan. The rematch with UCLA in the Rose has to be one of the worse losses ever. Especially considering they beat UCLA by 3 touchdowns in the Rose Bowl earlier in the year. It is also common knowledge that if OSU wins that Rose Bowl and the National Championship, Hayes would have retired. It’s too bad he could have gone out undefeated National Champion with his best player. Not to mention Woody would not had to have gone out the way he did!

A great buckeye victory

Thank you Griffin Brothers! Great people and great Buckeyes!
This is totally amazing to be able to watch old game like that, when you get older you appreciate more and more the great History of College Football.
Gotta hand it to Archie Griffin. Two Heisman Trophies, and the nicest person in football.
Griffin was one of the greatest college players ever. It's just too bad his pro career was not as good.
He didn't do much thus game.Too bad he broke his hand in Rose Bowl.Still should have given him ball more in second half

The '74 loss at East Lansing came against a team that had a number of players from the South, which hurt OSU with the pass.
