  • In this video, I cover how to perform the vent to atmosphere (VTA) mod on an Explorer Sport. I also discussed why it's ok to VTA with a MAP sensor VS a MAF sensor.

    The items required are
    1. 1" bar stool stoppers (they come in a pack of 4) that can be purchased at any hardware store.
    2. You will need two hose clamps. You can even reuse the clamps that are already on the recirculation hoses or any 1" clamp you can get over the bar stool stoppers.

    I have A 2017 Explorer Sport. I have a K-N cold air intake; in place of the oil cap, I have a breather that fits the same way as the oem cap. I installed a Magnaflow catback exhaust system. I removed the rear coil springs and installed a set of H&R lowering springs to drop the rear about 2 inches which gives me a more level ride and put new Bilstein B6 series shocks and front struts. I run Amsoil signature serries synthetic oil (5w30). I just did a performance tune with an SCT X4 programmer. Now when I hit the gas the Explorer really goes !

    • @blacktalonsport1262
      @blacktalonsport1262  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Very nice! My only question is why did you replace the oil cap with a breather? I suggest you get a catch can.

    • @nickt9626

      @@blacktalonsport1262 Hoping the breather would help with any pressure when running at a high rate of fuel consumption. So far there is no oil clogging it up and I am not burning it either. i use Amsoil signature series 5w30 oil. At this stage I don't want to do anymore mods.

      @@nickt9626 that breather will cause fumes to escape. A can would catch and store it. Plus it might cause a CEL for PCV system. I can't recall the exact wording. But it can cause an issue.

      Is SCT X4 a good tune for your ride? I just got a ‘16 Sport, and have noticed Livernois is way on back order for all their packages.

    • @blacktalonsport1262
      @blacktalonsport1262  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes it is. All the SCT tuners are really similar. It just a matter of what you're willing to pay for. They all allow you to download tunes. The major differences are the displays. I Iike GearHead followed by Ortiz. I think Livernois charges way too much in comparison.

    I have question i did the vta mod but I noticed that only driving it does the noise but on park tried reving it but it doesn’t do it is thay normal I noticed my rev limiter goes only up to 4k is that normal on park

    • @blacktalonsport1262
      @blacktalonsport1262  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes that's normal when you don't have a tune. They blow off under load only when not tuned. If you put it in drive, hold the brake, and Rev it a bit they will blow off...just don't do it too much because you're loading up the transmission clutches. After I did the Gearhart tune they blow off whenever, and you get a 4.5K soft limiter that sounds amazing as it's its bouncing of redline🤤

      @@jonathancasas7263 I have the Gear Head tune. I made a video on that tune. I love it! I couldn't resist the auto octane adaptability feature. I just wish it had a burble/flame tune option. No launch control option. I just put the terrain management in "sand mode" to lock all for wheels, and the transmission in "sport mode" when I want to drag someone

  • @miczap11
    @miczap11 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    All you’re doing is creating a massive boost leak. This isn’t a blow off valve, it’s a recirc valve. You want your car to sound fast but you’re just making it slower and making your turbos work harder

    • @blacktalonsport1262
      @blacktalonsport1262  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That's inaccurate. A "boost leak" happens while in boost. VTA while off the throttle is not a boost leak. The MAP sensor doesn't know when we VTA so it's fare game.
      Not much of a difference between a BOV and a bypass valve. A bypass valve can be modified to function as a BOV with no problem...that's what I did here. If I didn't have a MAP sensor then I'd run into problems. The MAP sensor is key to doing the VTA mod.
      Many mods will make the turbos work harder just like everything else we do to our cars to increase/improve performance. It just means a turbo replacement/ upgrade will need to be done in the near future.
      VTA will not "make you slower" we don't blow off while "shifting" (neither in Manuel mode or auto) so how would the VTA mod make us slow? If I came off throttle I'm not trying to accelerate so how would that VTA cause me to go slower if I lifted?
