  • Let's be real, I don't actually hate my 2020 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon, but these videos are very popular. I have enjoyed watching many "10 things I _____" videos. I asked around online in Facebook and other platforms just to see what other people thought about their Gladiators. Things we found to be small issues Jeep could have done differently. So some of the 10 things are what others have experienced and shared.
Leave me some feedback in the comments!!
What are your thoughts on the Gladiator? Do you love it? Like it? Dislike it?

If you buy a trail rated jeep of any model it should come stock with full skid plates, screw the option idea. They should also be easily removed for maintenance. When you pay that much this should be a non topic.

But “trail rated” is a made up term. I can see saying the Rubicon should have them, but not because of some meaningless badge

    • @thorman944
      @thorman944 3 ปีที่แล้ว

They are not really needed. 1st hand experience running easy & moderate (1 to 6 rated) trails. Your LCA brackets WILL scrape. But that is your primary scrape points on a Jeep Gladiator. No need for additional skid plates.

I'm considering buying a Gladiator in 2021. You made some pretty good points. Hopefully the folks at Jeep will listen to the consumer and make some changes. Especially the tow pkg items, or lack thereof, like the absence of a trailer brake, and those non extendable mirrors.

I have the 2018 - 4 door rubicon JL and I love it. I actually sold my 2011 5.7L hemi rubicon to get this and I agree with the pebble fender issue but the fenders on the new wranglers are made of aluminum and will not rust it’s just a pain and a dislike everyone has but rusting will not occur but paint chipping will.

On 1980-1996 Ford pickups the top corner of the taillight sticks out past the body crease just far enough so you can see in the mirrors if they are working. Early years had the fluted lamps that shed dust. These trucks were built to work.

The auto start stop turns off while in 4L. So it won’t turn off while on an obstacle.

You cant say its entirely a brand new vehicle. Lots of the components are carry over from the Wrangler that has been in production for two years prior. The biggest areas in my opinion of potential issues would be box, rear suspension or maybe rear cab related. Everything else should be pretty smoothed out by now. Zero issues with mine so far. Far cry from my 19’ TRD Pro with had warranty at 750kms for rear diff whine.

Thanks. As someone considering one as my next rig among some other trucks these are helpful to know. I wonder if someone will come out with a swing tailgate for the spare. Yeah, you’ll have to open it to lower the tailgate and yeah, you won’t be able to put the tailgate half down to carry plywood, but for those of us using them for an offroad veh we probably don’t care. I know I am putting a GoFast Camper on back of whatever I get and being able to get the spare from outta the bed (which is where’s it’s going otherwise cause I can’t have it below) would be nice.

Tell you what, I’ll take that old Jeep POS off your hands and trade you even, you don’t need to add any money, for my 1987 Chevy 4x4, it’s got a rebuilt 350 and runs good, you’ll need to add a quart of 20-50 every 500 miles but it’s fine otherwise. You may want to get the transmission looked at in the near future but it’ll get you around at least another 6 months. I bought a 2020 Overland Gladiator brand new in August of 2020, so I have had it for about 2.5 years now as I write this and have put 30k miles on it. I have loved it. It is a great truck, super capable, I pull my 21ft bass boat with it every summer, have taken it on over a dozen overlanding tips in Colorado and Arkansas, remodeled my house with it (truck beds of dirt, gravel, crushed granite, and trailer loads of lumber), and have it built with a 2.5 inch lift, 35s, bumpers, bed cover and some interior stuff. I had ONE issue with it at 21k miles that is apparently common. I got a alert on the dash that said "Service Stop/Start System" and took it in under warranty and had the have the auxillary battery replaced that controls the stop/start system. But that is the only complaint so far.

Don't need traditional skid plates. From real-world experience at Rausch Creek doing badge of honor trails... protector plates for lower control arm brackets ($90 front set + $90 rear set) would be nice. That is what will hit on moderate & hard off-road trails.

I just got my 2020 Gladiator. Re "On/Off" (actually "Start/Stop"). I'm confused by your comment. After starting the Jeep it's only necessary to press that "Start/Stop" defeat button once. It will remain active until the vehicle is shut off. You make it sound like it is continually coming back on. Otherwise, a good video and I agree with your every other comment(s), such as lack of the 120VAC outlet, which I also had in my '14 JKU.

+Bryan Phelan sorry in looking back I could of explained it differently. It’s only an issue when your at a couple off-road parks we have here in Michigan. Sometimes your in tight slow spots and turning the truck on and off in different parts of the park. So trying to remember to hit the switch all the time is a pain. It would be nice if it was a permanent off toggle switch.

It's illegal to cover the 3rd brake light, but you can always adapt it because a tire carrier would be cool to have. Plus you would have to adapt the rear camera. Of course skid plates should be a option, why would Jeep give up $ to other 4x4 companies. Just like before Unlimiteds you had to go too another customizer for 4 doors and now finally FCA is offering a 392 V8 instead of doing it yourself. Will they ever learn? I have a longer cord to plug in back to use the 110.

The trailer mirrors shouldn't be that big a gripe. After all, it IS only a mid-size truck, and most half-ton trucks don't even come with tow mirrors. I towed a small enclosed trailer (5x8 inside dimensions) 800 miles and didn't really have any visibility issues. Longer and wider trailers sure, but that's what the aftermarket community is for. There's options out there, and Jeep probably figured it wasn't worth the extra money to develop new mirrors for a truck that has interchangeable doors with the JL.
The 110V up front just got moved to the back of the center console, so also not THAT big of a deal. It's 12in farther back.
My biggest gripe with the truck is the soft top rain channel. It's like trying to avoid stepping through a waterfall when getting in and out of the front seat when it's raining.

I’m actually really annoyed with the drive train. Now that I’ve had it longer and wheeled more in 4L. It does really funny stuff under load. Throttle response is horrible. If you’re spinning with the lockers engaged in for low and hit the break the transfer case pushes you right through the brakes. There’s definitely some things they can improve on.

I took it to the dealer for repair over a week ago and they can't fix it. They cannot get the part from Chrysler. Chrysler engineers wanted them to send pictures and have yet to respond back. This vehicle has not been off the hard road or been through as much as a mud puddle yet. I can't believe there is such little support from Chrysler on the Gladiator that they were so proud of. I loved it for the month I had it.
