Wow! it is really neat to see a top notch manufacture build their product on video. I love how Seeker wraps the end of the sheet material multiple times around the mandrel to reduce axial stress concentrations in the finished rod when it is fighting a fish. Really impressed!

A very fascinating tour of the making of a Seeker. There is one point I have missed: the integration of the composite of graphite and glass. Is the glass the outer layer?
Hate to tell you but this isn't how Seeker has made rods for nearly 5 years. The company was sold and production was moved overseas. The gentleman giving this presentation and much of the staff went to United Composites. Seeker rods have gone downhill since the ownership change happened. If you can find a Seeker from before 2017 they are absolutely awesome. Not so much since then though.
You correct from what I heard the owner of United Composites was a top designer for Seeker I have my united composites rod and it works wonderful for deep rock fishing and surface fishing
I have added one step to make my rods perfect; I added weights to the butt under the butt cap to balance the butt with the blade where my fingers hold the rod at the reel seat. The only weight I feel is the lure. My wrist doesn't have to twist the tip upwards against the blade weight, the butt weights do it.
i was a custom rod builder back in the 80s when i first saw seeker blanks,the sales rep said the guys that used to work for sabre now make seeker blanks was this true ? just curios,great video.
Seeker’s should start making “Acid Rods” aka “Spiral Wrapped Rods”.., I’ve been a true believer of Acid Rods more and more! I also feel that conventional rods is far more weaker as how it’ll twist as the bigger fishes are pulling HARD!!! And as for spiral wrapped rods there’s no twist lol *smiles* Seeker’s should listen 😉

Great video. I've just started building custom rods and I know what you mean about the time consuming this hobby is, but when the final project is done great joy. I have a question for you Mr. Dohi, what do you do with the blanks that has in perfections or flaws? I have a lot of trouble finding blanks at a decent price. I'm a disabled combat veteran and I build custom rods and give them to people who aren't fortunate enough to afford a fishing pole, so that's what I do.I sure hope you get back with me a lot of companies just blow me off or ignore my question. Lol, "as a custom rob builder myself it would take 1 to 2 hrs to apply epoxy on a rod, they do it with a brush I am scared of". Question what epoxy does he use? My flex coat open time is about 20 mins. Great tour thou thanks.
I always thought that a rod should be light and strong.....my im12 rod has towed a 7 man boat without arguing with me for a moment :)) (and it is a medium strength for 25g baits) Wondering what military grade means then? Still good job on making great looking rods
Seems like a very primate manufacturing process that could be improved by leaps and bounds to create a drastically better product. Clean rooms, automation, strict tolerances, CAD...
I think it's set perfect. It would be boring with out. Even the real how it's made has music playing during the explanation phase of the video. Is it just that it's not you type of music that makes it annoying? Because when it's rock and roll used it irritates me as well!

Nothing beats a hand made product. Automation just cant replicate experience , feel and heart put into every piece.
