    already have caught a 30# Blue Cat off of these (going to try to get a 60#+ next year). th-cam.com/users/postUgkxzXmlErSqVAEGWFEKO530BvTqFDw53QW3 Definitely very strong, and sharp. Additionally, the gap is wide enough to actually hook a fish (not always the case with circle hooks). I purchased the 8/0, but probably should have got the 9/0 (they seem slightly smaller than other 8/0 hooks). Additionally, having the point in-line helps if you drift fish. I have yet to get a serious snag with one of these hooks.

    My PB walleye was caught on blue & chrome. With no net, I tried lifting a 10+ lb. Over a 4ft. rail before the line snapped and the fish dropped to the ground on the wrong side of the rail before it fell back into the Detroit River and swam off with the trap still in its lips. I heard those rattles fade away in the foggy night, and my heart still pounds like it just happened.

      Suffix 832 30 pd braided line in Green Moss color. Use a Palomar knot. You will never lose another fish. Ask me how I know. I have caught hundreds of Bass. Even really large ones. Haven't lost a Bass in over 5 years. Give it a try! Shawn.

      Shawn, I never leave home without it. When that magical night happened, superlines were yet to be a thing, & flojo was introduced 20 years L8r. Don't get me wrong, braid has been around before mono by decades, just not in the way it is advertised today. I'm also fond of Power Pro 30#. The moral of this story, The Detroit River, has been our sweet spot decades before it garnered the name Pound Town. This is testimony from a 58 year old lifer fishing it.

    The story about the Rat-L-Trap that you tell at the end is 100% true. I know this because my grand-father was Bill's brother-in-law and was there that day. That is the same story that he used to tell me when I was growing up. Funny thing is 1964 is also my birth year....LOL Really wish that I had been able to keep the lures that Uncle Bill gave me thru the years because a lot of the time he would give me the proto-types or the first runs.

    True story: Been having incredible luck this year fishing a "lake" that has been dammed here in Michigan along the Huron River (I just don't want to say exactly where). Yesterday, I stopped at a tackle shop on the way out there and bought my first Rat-L-Trap, 1/4 oz. lure and threw it in my box. Fished the area that I've had great luck for about 90 minutes. Tried all my favorites that brought me luck there this year. X-Raps of different sizes, crankbaits of different sizes, several spinnerbaits, several jigged grubs. Not a bite. I decided to try my Rat-L-Trap after 90 minutes of nothing. 60 minutes later, I had landed 8 Largemouth. No BS. Two of them were pushing 5 lbs. I'm leaving now to go buy a few more for my box.

    Hats off to you sir! You recognized the employees in the video. You and your employees are what makes a company survive and excel. The video also explains why you have to command a little more money for your product. These lures are a little more labor intensive than I had previously envisioned. I know first hand that it is one of the best white bass / hybrid lures money can buy! Good luck to you and your crew and "keep on rattlin".

    Awesome video Traps were one of the first baits I learned to fish I was probably 10 years old .,Still remember fishing out of an aluminum row boat some 35 years ago and when I'd reel in my trap you could hear the rattle's getting amplifed louder through the boat.. Guess one of my best memories fishing traps finished 5 th in a Anglers Choice Championship 2 day tournament on Lake st.Clair probably 200 Boats and all of mine and my partner's fish were caught on a Gold Bill Lewis Rat-L-Trap.. Truly a Timeless lure. Serious.Anglers will still be throwing Traps 50 years from now no other lure can say that.. Baseball Apple pie and Traps American Legend..👍🎣

    It is by far my favorite bait to use and it is also a sickness in me because I am also a collector of these baits and I have over 500 of them and will be getting more. Nothing like getting a new box of them and adding to my collection. I don't gamble smoke or drink so that allows me to do more of what I want which is collecting these awesome Made in America lures.

    I remember when I was in High school, I was in a youth bass club. We got the opportunity to tour "Bill Lewis Lure Company" when they were down on Boltin street in a much smaller factory. But, the method they use today is the same they did back in 1978 when we toured there. I have been fishing Rattle Traps since 1978 and cannot count the number of fish I have caught. Interestingly, the measure cup they use for the BB's is a 45 shell casing. Back in the day, they used a ballpoint Pen Top to measure them. Great memories!

    How the lure got its name is really neat. I use these baits and am happy that they weren't discontinued as several others that I've had great success with. Just to name a few: DOA Shrimp with the pink flourescent tail, Yamoto Heart Tail, Xcalibur XEE4 suspending jerkbait, and the Mooney Hound by Yum. I'm still so disappointed in those that were discontinue. The Ral-L-Trap will continue to do the job. 🙂

    I been using Ra-L-Trap's since they first hit the market. My bait of choice over the years has ALWAYS been chrome blue back since they were first introduced. I usually buy a dozen at a time and when they are gone, then I get some more. What I have found over the last year with the last batch I bought is that the chrome is coming off. Called Bill Lewis Outdoors to express my concerns and the nice lady said, "send a couple of them in and let us check them". I was not rude, but was thinking WTF, its obvious they have changed the process as the older lures did not have this problem. She said they had found that leaving them in a hot tackle box could cause the chrome to peel. I said "Thank You" and I was sorry I wasted her time and mine. :(

    • @theunluckyfisherman4845
      @theunluckyfisherman4845 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey man, get some white tape and put it on the lid of your clear tackle boxes to give your baits a shaded area so it doesnt get as hot. I use hockey tape, but electrical or duct tape should work fine. What i've done, is taken a piece of paper, wrote "Squarebills" on it, put the on the box lid facing out so that when i tape it over, i know which baits are in the box. I'm about to do this with all my baitboxes. Another trick you can do is, you know when you buy something that gets shipped to you? Use the silica packets you get inside the boxes/containers of the item you bought. Throw those in your crankbait boxes and they'll help absorb water that gets in there from humidity or wet baits. I try to get as many as i can so i have at least one packet per crankbait area. Now when you close your box at the end of the day, there is less heat and water trapped in the box. You can also try using clear nail polish or epoxy to spray/lightly brush over your baits so they're less likely to peel, although i find it does make your bait weigh slightly more.

    I use traps all of the time.
    I've been bass fishing in S. Fl since 1968 and still enjoy it today.

    I'm a firm believe that it is one of the best bass lure. I'm a novice fishing and one day I went to a dam and it was my first time using one of these and caught 2 decent size bass

    Love knowing where and how they lures are made. I have no problem dropping a few extra on a handmade lure knowing where it actually came from. I've never tried rat l trap lures but I might just go get a couple. Support American made.
