    Wow. At the age of 68 I learnt that each of my old fishing rods is a masterpiece. I almost had a heart attach when you searched for the sweet spot. Amazing. Even the compilation and the binding. I once paid R 6 000 for 2 rods for myself and another R 6 000 for 2 rods for my son. They now have a very special spot on my home. Thanx guys for a very informative video.

    I've had a couple of custom surf rods made over the years. Yes, they're more expensive than a typical "off the shelf" rod, but I have no regrets about putting out the money. You get the blank you want, the thread color, guide type, handle, etc. Granted, you definitely want someone who knows what they're doing, but most decent rod builders have notable reputations in the local fishing community. If you're an avid fisherman, and have the financial resources, I'd recommend at least one custom rod in your arsenal. Gives it a nice, personal touch.

    That is an awesome video and I wish I had the skill those women and everyone else behind building rods at your place. I've built one rod so far and repaired a few after that. It is a very lengthy time consuming tedious task. And as a perfectionist every little bubble or crossed thread drives me insane. And now buying any rods or seeing the 400$ rods my buddy who does guides buys I see every imperfection and I hate it. So thanks for the showing of how it's done from the very start to finish. That was amazing

      I’m a lifelong fisherman, 59yrs old (Australian/beach/surf/rock fishing) and have about a dozen or so custom rods in the 10’ - 13’6” range. They are anywhere between 20-40yrs old, and all have been refurbished/rebuilt at least once, and in a few cases about 5 times over the period of time. I was aware of the skill and craftsmanship that went into finishing a rod, (butt/reel plate/guides/thread/epoxy) but not the process of producing a blank. When you combine all the craftsmanship and skills, a custom rod is a very undervalued commodity. Much the same as a custom surfboard 🏄

    Very interesting thanks for showing how it’s done ,out of interest do you make fly fishing rods ? Here in uk 🇬🇧 not many companies actually make the blanks anymore !! Sad really when there used to be so many famous companies here that did . Most come in from China now

    • @InTheSpread
      @InTheSpread  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your comments. Fly rods are not part of what Blackfin makes. Yeah, the UK had a nice history of quality manufacturers. You are right. So much of the tackle biz has moved to China.

    Excellent work! I had to hold my cringe coming from aerospace layup, but I have to remember that gloves, hair nets, etc., aren't always necessary outside that industry!

    • @InTheSpread
      @InTheSpread  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha, right! It's a smidge different that what you would expect from aerospace. Thanks for the comment.

      @@InTheSpread anytime! Truthfully, the whole "reject the $50,000 part because of one piece of hair found during ultrasonic NDT" is probably too cautious. Looking forward to purchasing a pole!
