Your absolutely correct, its 72 ft lbs of torque for the stock vvt cam. But… If your installing a comp cam, or a FRP Cam, or any performance cam (like stage 1 cam or stage 2, or 3 ), then you use 90 ft pounds of torque plus blue loctite.
I have a friend who just replace the cam, lifter's, and pushrods on a 2013 Charger with the 5.7 The so called Hemi it started right up and seem to be a little out of time he readjusted timing and then the motor wouldn't start he did this a few times then I told him to take the heads back off upon doing that every single pushrod was damn near bent in half could someone please let me know what the hell could have happened thank you
Good job man I'm doing a complete rebuild also on a 2013 hemi 5.7 and I got a Haynes repair manual for 2009 to 2012 Dodge trucks most current manual I could find so in the manual it shows the two colored marks goes at the bottom and the single mark lines at the top this actually is wrong for a vvt cam phaser but they don't show a vvt cam phaser in the manual idky this will set they bottom at like 6:30 so yes with a vvt phaser the two cam chain marks go at the top and will set it at 6:00 on the bottom I found out the hard way but thankfully no damage was done !
I did the same thing lol I pulled the engine expecting the worst I'm severely OCD (Army I guess wasn't that way before) I tore it back down completely and looked for any metal shavings I've got it about halfway put back together changed all of the rod bearings and rings and every single sensor just have to put the heads on timing cover then fly it in lol
@@JustOneSmallExplorer they are exactly the same size bolts. 21 ft lbs will snap one. i ran into the same things with the shop manual not having the correct torque values. Also the cam retainer plate not 250 inch lbs but is 106 inch lbs. (Torque screws)
What is the best way for loosen and thighten the srew of the Camshaft-pully ? In the manual is nothing writen how to counterwise that pully. or a special tool. Thanks
I've seen an impact tool to remove it. What I did was hold the crank bolt clockwise and turn the camshaft bolt counterclockwise. After the chain is off of the Camshaft I held it in my hand and put some clockwise tension on it so I can take off the Crank bolt. It takes some finessing because you don't want to move it from TDC but it's doable. Even if it moves you can always set your timing marks back to place.
No it's a New Engine, The Engine i got in my Dodge Challenger has a V6 3.5L Engine & we are switching out the engine for a 2013 5.7L Hemi engine we are just building it up for more horsepower
+AimlessMoto yeah it's the same hookups but just play Everything safe I'm going to take parts from a RT Challenger to switch over to my Dodge Challenger and yeah the engine is set up for a automatic
Okay thank you very much and thank you for watching and I am looking forward to more of your videos too just saying if you have a Facebook you can go to Wicked Dodge toys it's a group you can join if you want to I am the owner
I'm trying to set the timing on my 2011 Ram 1500 and having a hell of a time. Can you explain why different videos have the double links on top and the single link on the bottom. Any and all help is much appreciated. Thanks Eric
Your pistons don't even come close to the top of the cylinders. My piston top dead centers are right at the top. Your's are like a centimeter down? Are you sure your rods are the right length?
For everyone who's been talking shit about their botched timing procedure, you all should be ashamed for not noticing that the pistons don't reach the deck surface, they sit a 1/4 inch too low at tdc. It leads me to believe the crank is a stock stroke but the pistons are for a 392 stroker This engine build needs to be completely redone. Mismatched crank and pistons imo
Sorry but if you dont know how to use a torque wrence then you should not be allowed to make engine vlogs as everybody watching will make that same mistake.Major engin breakdown if that bolt snaps in operation
Whoever was holding the camera was all bad, they move to much with the camera. If you're trying to demonstrate and help the viewer's how to set timing on a engine, then its not good to keep moving the camera for them.
Great video explaining the proper timing on a 5.7 hemi
Excellent realistic video, we all have a habit of over use of the torch wrench, we all love that sound.

Hey I'm So Sorry that Happened to your Friend.! I will tell you what happened but right now My Mom is in the Hospital & I will get back to you
I like how your dad is coaching from behind the camera
You should call out the torque settings for each bolt.
Need to show more of the piston rotations .
You can sit timing, rotate it 2x & be good
That is freekin cool. Ive got a Hemi Ive been dieng to learn about lol

Piston 1 at Top(TDC). Right?
as an iraqian this work only took five min to me 😊
It seems to me you moved the piston . Are you sure no 1 is still at the top of the stroke?
does piston 1 have to be TDC??????
You guys are entertaining
beast mode on that torque wrench
Dad is smoking some good shit
Ok there ya go guys had me worried on the last vid .. that's how you time a 5.7 hemi
Where did you get the paper that shows how it’s done ??
I got the paper details from the dealership
Geeze..this guy is super inexperienced...we all gotta start somewhere I guess
keep going
i will & thank you for watching
W.D.T. High-Performance update hemi
Stayed tuned for when they rebuild it again when it seizes up on 1st start. Guys practice on vacuum cleaners
I put a new cam in my Ram 1500 hemi and I can't seem to get the timing right can you tell us what they W.D.T did wrong in their build? Thanks Eric
So when the crank is at 6 is that cylinder one up ?
I askd myself the same question.. they never check'd that lol..
When cylinder 1 & 6 are on top, this means your at top dead center (TDC).
Can you reuse cam phaser bolt?
thanks for the help thats a good video
Alejandro Estrada you're very welcome
Thank you bro
Great video. Where do you get the data sheets with the pictures?
I got them from the dealership
+Brandon Demiter Thanks. Keep posting
+Matari 7 you're Welcome & Thank You..!
ok why did he turn the motor over when there was no valves to worry abt hitting
When your assembling the motor your suppose to turn it over checking for any unusual drag or stopping for the motor
@@robfrmny21
i should have known that.
thanks fer the reminder

What was the torque spec on the timing tensioner bolts ?
Timing Chain Tensioner: 21 ft-lbs
Timing Chain Guide: 9 ft-lbs

Have a question. ... so to do the cam and lifters. Is not that hard.. on a 2011 5.7 hemi ? Thanks
colas solorzano it is that hard. I’m currently doing it on my Charger, i have the engine and transmission out the car

So, was this the result of a mechanical failure that prompted you to do a full rebuild?
No it's a New Engine, The Engine i got in my Dodge Challenger has a V6 3.5L Engine & we are switching out the engine for a 2013 5.7L Hemi engine we are just building it up for more horsepower
Dude that's an awesome idea! Will it bolt right up to the 5 speed auto in the V6, or are you swapping over to a Tremec TR-6060 out of an R/T?
+AimlessMoto yeah it's the same hookups but just play Everything safe I'm going to take parts from a RT Challenger to switch over to my Dodge Challenger and yeah the engine is set up for a automatic

2009 an up hemi engine are vvt right ?
Yes
That engine should rotate way easier than that I'd recheck the rod and main bearing and then the ring gap something too tight
Do you use lock tape on the boat? You're supposed to use lock tape.
why the chain is like a bicycle chain I mean is tiny
I was doing it on Chrysler minivan 3.3 L chain is 2 ce thicker
Hi, does # one piston need to up or not.
Yes it does
I'm trying to set the timing on my 2011 Ram 1500 and having a hell of a time. Can you explain why different videos have the double links on top and the single link on the bottom. Any and all help is much appreciated. Thanks Eric
How to set up timing of dorg ram 1500 v8
The links don’t matter. It’s the dot at 6 o’clock on the crankshaft sprocket and the line at 12 o’clock for the camshaft phaser.
You got them bolts on top of that dog going motor and you got the pistons exposed, you drop a bolt in there and hit the wall
Are you sure where's the pistol number one?
It's turning that by hand looks like it's guessing
Do you remember what the torque specs were for the timing chain guides and the oil pump? I can't find them anywhere on line, thank you!
Timing Chain Tensioner: 21 ft-lbs
Timing Chain Guide: 9 ft-lbs
Oil Pump bolts: 21 ft-lbs
👍
Question why #1 cylinder not top dead center when timed lol😂
Your pistons don't even come close to the top of the cylinders. My piston top dead centers are right at the top. Your's are like a centimeter down? Are you sure your rods are the right length?
I noticed that
What was the tipoff that the timing was incorrect?
Number 1 cylinder wasn't at top dead centre
Do u have to line up the chain

By the looks of things the bolt is already stripped.lol
