The Action 3 and 4 have hyperlapse modes where they adapt to changes in exposure much more quickly than the timelapse mode, which I wrongly used in my testing. The Action 3 and 4 can only share ND filters if you are using a filter than goes over and around the stock filter. Hey there! Thank you for your in-depth comparison and honest review of the Action 4, which is soooo helpful to me. As for the timelapse issue that shows dji is slower in exposure adjustment, around 14:00, I notice the same "issue" on action 3. But later i figure out it might be the improper mode setting. Hey, thanks for the comment! I wish I had known this 😂 you are correct, I did use the Timelapse setting instead of Hyperlapse setting. That must be why the exposure change is so slow. I’m gonna try out the Hyperlapse setting. Thanks 🙌🏼

Wonderful video, I just tried a hero11 and an action 4 in my house at 72 degrees F, the hero11 overheated in around 20 when it shut off, but the action 4, although it said it needed to turn the screen off due to overheating, it never stopped filming and ran for 1 hour and 12 min until the battery died. I tried this multiple times which makes me believe the Action 4 will continue filming even when hot as long as the screen is off.

I’m leaning towards the OA4 simply for its functionality and better low light, but let’s see what the new GP brings.

According to some other videos, the action will show overheating warning but still keeps recording with screen off but GoPro will just shut down. Is this true in your testing?
From my experience the Action will stop recording and show a warning. And then turn off after a few more minutes. You can see this in the Timelapse footage of the cameras outside
best test ever seen from 30. Test the heat-overheat thats what i will see, Quallity is so close on d4 and g11. I have much problems with extenal mic at d4 with audio clipping, now i test the g11. did you have problems with "dont working-filming, dont stop filming" on g11, must retake battery pack. ?
By far the best comparison of Action 4 vs GoPro. Thank you! I'd like to point out that Action 4 has about 10 mp (!), 2 mp less than Action 3. And the video is _always_ upscaled in camera. And by the footage you can clearly see that it is not true 4K, the image just oversharpened. Keep in mind that for electronic stabilization the camera uses CROP, so it has to upscale even more.
Thanks for the kind words 🙌🏼 even if it is upscaled the Action 4 looks better than the 3 with less digital sharpening applied. On top of that the Action 4 is just as sharp and has just as much detail than the GoPro 11 at 5.3k. So I prefer to look at the actual results than just the specs, but good to point out 🙌🏼
0:50 The thread on lens on Action 4 is different than Action 3. I think ND filters won't match on this. But i do not own both. Please correct me if i am wrong.
Ah, I just checked and you are correct. The reason I said that is because the DJI ND filters I have slide over and around the stock Lens and do not screw in and so they do work on the 3 and 4. Sorry about the confusion and thanks for clarifying.
The question that I need an answer to is why did Osmo release a month before GoPro? Is it because they know GoPro is better? It's not that I don't like Osmo, but I will wait for a new release for comparison.
Great review thanks. I notice the clouds have more definition on the go pro. At 14:36 for example. The action cameras seem to loose the shadows in the clouds. Has anybody else noticed this. ?

Sure thing! I’m repairing my Avata this week. I might go shoot some more at the castle this week and if so I’ll post a video about it so look out for that. I think Avata and Action 4 is a good combo 🙌🏼
Thanks so much for making this video. I'm very concerned about the overheating aspect. I just shot over 4 hours of continuous use in bright sunlight and 95 degrees heat with 2 of the original Osmo Actions and besides having to change batteries, I never had an overheating issue. I use them on my kayak. Turn them on, replace batteries as needed, and just let them run the whole time we're on the water. I love the picture quality of the Osmo 4, but the overheating issue is a deal breaker for me.
That’s a fair concern! What video settings are you using them in? If it’s 4k30 you should be fine. To be honest in all of my normal real life testing none of these cameras overheated at all.
Ah okay, I’m not surprised. But to be honest, In actually using any of these cameras in real life I didn’t experience any overheating. Should have mentioned that in the review but it was already getting very long 😂
Laying these cameras on a hot windowsill in the sun is not how these cameras were designed to be used. They are designed to be cooled by air moving against them.. on a motorcycle or openly walking..not to be left sitting on a hot piece of wood in the sun without being moved.. These are action cams not podcast cams
I saw a video yesterday, where GP11 overheats on max video settings very quickly, without draining all battery, where DJI action 3 works normally, till battery dies. GOpro 26 minutes vs DJI 64minutes. Hmmm...
Did you bought your action 4 in Europe? I saw a comment last time about a European regulation where the overheating limit is lowered to be sold in Europe, don't know if it's true
9:46,I noticed that, when there's sunlight coming from upper front,DJI Action4 tends to have "phantom" effect and creates those annoying light spots but GoPro doesn't.
Ahh very well spotted 🙌🏼 you are right. So those are actually just lens flares. Some people like them and they give character to a Len’s. To be honest I quite like them 😂 it makes it look more like a pro camera and not an action camera.
Very nice review. Thanks. Wondering if the battery results for A3 and A4 could be due to the fact that the battery of A4 was newer than that of A3... Also, something I noticed also in some other reviews: the FOV of A4 seems sltghtly narrower than A3, but very small difference. Ex: look at 12:26, when it changes from A3 to A4.
Thanks! All the batteries I used were brand new so it has nothing to do with the battery with regards to the A4 lasting longer but good question. Yes and I think you are right! I believe the FOV on A4 is slightly narrower. But not enough for it to really bother me.
@@LukeMaximoBell1 I tried the A4 in shop and noticed the display brightness was much darker than that of A3 (both at 100%). Maybe a difference in upper brightness limit that could explain the difference in battery life? All these little Details... Lt. Columbo😀
@@Hiking-guide-and-scenery Ahh that is interesting. I just checked out both of mine at 100% brightness and to be honest they look the same brightness to me... It could be possible that the one in store didn't have the latest firmware.
I really needed a smaller camera and when the Go 3 reviews came out I bought it right away and immediately regretted it and returned it (hyped reviews). I almost bought the Action 3. I was within days from pulling the trigger. I’m glad this came out 😅
Nice in depth comparison - you actually put in the work to compare. Other videos are just so superficial and low effort. Btw I'm looking to buy my first action camera. Which would you suggest? My needs: car dash cam recording, timelapse hyperlapse, mostly hot weather usage (live in India) and ease of use and software support.
Thanks man! Yeh I tried to do the work to get proper comparisons instead of just saying it’s a better camera without actually testing it 😂 Hmmm, DJI is gonna be easy to use so I would go with the 3, or the Action 4 if you’re budget suits it. Somebody pointed out to me in the comments that it’s better to use Hyperlapse mode instead of Timelapse mode when moving fast or in a car and it will fix the exposure speed change issue. If you choose to buy you can use the link in my video description and I’ll get a small commission.
I viewed many videos and only this videos that found Gopro hero 11 overheat much later than Osmo Action 3&4. Other videos test osmo action 3&4 does not overheat at all compared to gopro11 😅😂
Nice video. Seems a few weeks early to decide. This is comparing the new model DJI to the old model GoPro. It seems as many free cameras as DJI sent out they may feel the need to get some cameras sold early! Maybe they know something we don't. If we wait a few weeks we might be able to make a more informed decision. I don't have a dog in the fight but I'm also not in a hurry and this seems rushed to market. It might not change anything when the 12 comes out but I'll wait and see. All I'm saying is most companies understand timing. 🤷♂️
@@LukeMaximoBell1 I like DJI, I have one of their drones and TWO DJI wireless mics so it's no dig on the company. Honestly I'm thinking about buying the Osmo 4 anyway. I have a bevy of GoPro and Insta360 cameras so why not add at least one DJI. I was thinking about it anyway just to record time lapse videos through the windshield of my truck to catch storms. I like to start the video in a cloudless sky when I know there's a storm moving in. I run the GoPro on an external battery BUT it's sitting in direct sunlight in a hot car. It's something baking for hours before it's even time to record. As you probably already guessed I've missed a few storms due to overheating. That's a demanding role for any camera. I'm not sure if the DJI can handle that either but I'll probably try.
@@onlymyopiniontech Yeeeh that makes sense! DJI battery life is muuch better. If you run it on 4k30 you should not run into overheating problems. I imagine you run the AC on in your car all the time? I never got overheating when I was actually using these cameras in real life.

I really like the Len’s flares on the Action 4! Make it look more like a proper camera and not an action camera which is cool for me. But some people want no Len’s flares which is far
Around 21:00. No, just no. I have a GoPro Hero 9 which is unusable because of overheating. The most I've ever gotten is 21 minutes. This is why I bought a DJI Osmo Action 4. I've watched many many TH-cam channels that show the DJI doesn't overheat. Time lapse and warp are important to me. And are long bike rides. So, I feel really burned by GoPro and will never buy another one.
I understand your annoyances, but my overheating tests were very conclusive for me and the GoPro was the clear winner. Not sure why other people are getting different results
@@LukeMaximoBell1 Your 'test results' just do not match my reality. I really have to wonder whether you are being objective or not - regardless of what you claim. The GoPro has overheating issues, but, the Action 4 is worse. It's just absurd.
testing pre-released stuff is always sketchy , not really fair and a huge question mark. You should run away from reviewers that do that. They are testing something that most likely customers will not have and also in some cases contain different or improved/tweaked hardware or software than what retail will have. I worked with prototypes and I know what I'm saying. always test products that are already in store - don't trust the rest and don't accept "gifts" for review. Also you seem to try hard to be impartial but at the end of the day someone sent you a camera to review and you try to make them happy...; funny in almost any other review the gopro has the much better detail and autofocus...but not in this one. The battery in low temperature in any other test was about the same but not in this one...; But the big question mark - other reviews and customer reports show the gopro to ALWAYS die first from overheating but not in this one...which makes me believe the DJI sent you a "tunned" version with much better quality/processing that generates more heat (which makes the camera die from overheating much faster). No other review online managed to kill this camera after 5 minutes
This is actually the first Low Light test that I have scene that the Action 4 overall beats the GoPro (in my opinion based off of what I would rather edit with) Granted GoPro has never done well with a high ISO and if you dial in the settings of BOTH cameras the results will look a lot different compared to what is shown here. I can understand that the Action 4 does deliver a better, brighter image but the GoPro (under good settings) shouldn't be bad either. As someone who doesn't really care about the bright Low Light performance of a camera Overall I pic the GoPro.
@@JohnIn2SonAZ I mean objectively the GoPro has more distortion and fisheye than the Action 4. That's just lens physics, not my opinion. I guess you could say it's my opinion that the GoPro is not sharper even at higher resolution. haha. But generally one watches TH-cam videos about these products to see peoples opinions on these products, so there you go.

The action 4 is a great camera and my will arrive on Monday. But as all other sponsored or not I got it for free videos. The action 4 has won 😅
Nice! 😎 Action 4 is an excellent camera 🙌🏼 I don’t think you will regret it
I bought it yesterday, and all reviews on this friggin platform are exaggerating on how good it is. It's not bad, but its... nothing special
which camera?
I feel like this review comparison was pretty honest 🤷♂️
A moment of silence for those who bought the Osmo Action 3 recently! 😅
I really needed a smaller camera and when the Go 3 reviews came out I bought it right away and immediately regretted it and returned it (hyped reviews). I almost bought the Action 3. I was within days from pulling the trigger.
I’m glad this came out 😅
😂😂😂
You should wait for action 5 😅
Action 6 is coming
@@noukimoto574But the action 7 tho
Excelente vídeo.. saying that i have they fixed the focus issue that they had with the action 3
I experienced no focus issues 🙌🏼
Ive watch a lot of content but No one try to test on 37-40 degrees. As for people living in tropical countries and middle eastern.
Thanks man! Yeh I tried to do the work to get proper comparisons instead of just saying it’s a better camera without actually testing it 😂
Hmmm, DJI is gonna be easy to use so I would go with the 3, or the Action 4 if you’re budget suits it.
Yeh I don’t know what to say! I tested it 3 different times because I was also confused, but these are the results I got 🤷♂️
I think new recent firmware update from GoPro has improved the overheating issue.
Which version?
@@LukeMaximoBell1 i don't know clearly, but this video is very recent and GoPro might just release it fee days before the video
Awesome review
Thank you….🐎🐎
Glad you enjoyed it 🙌🏼
Thing is the new gopro12 will make the action 4 look old, just like action 4 has made a 12month old gp11 has done.
It’s possible 😂😂 only time will tell! September is soon
Yeh that’s completely fair. Hero 12 launch is not far away so waiting to see what GoPro has to offer is a good idea 😎 if you can deal with the fomo 😂
@@onlymyopiniontech If you do choose to buy it then please use my affiliate link in the video description 😎 You obviously don't have to, but I will get a 5% commission if you do 😂
Anyone else notice the clouds look better on the GoPro footage?
In which shot?
Yeap, they look better and more detailed. This is something i see in every comparison test review in YT. The shot is the one with the monowheel.
14:52
Just wait on the hero 12 lol
I’m excited to see what GoPro comes out with 🤩
it's a matter of handling heat issues now....
I don't know why everyone is comparing DJI Action 4 with GoPro 11. Probably just for making some easy TH-cam $$$. GoPro 11 is almost 1 year OLD dudes & I'm 100% sure after a month or so you guys would compare DJI Action 4 with GoPro 12 for more $$$.
If you’re not interested in the video then just don’t watch it 🤷♂️
@@LukeMaximoBell1 you know what, i didn't watch...
Really good video
Thank you 🙌🏼
They look lie best friends and enjoy being on the same rig. I would love to know what they are saying to each other when you cant hear 😂
They do! 😂
action 3 looks to be having the best low-light tho...
Where did you see that?
4 weeks time the Gopro 12 will be here, so wait if you can.
Keen to see what the GoPro 12 has in store 🤩
10:04 lens flare test :P action 4 looks much better than action 3 but hero 11 still better
@@TomUlcak Okay so how do you suppose I faked these results? I am just curious as to why or how I would do that.
By the way, this comparison is for the GoPro 11, not the GoPro 9 you are claiming to be using.
@@LukeMaximoBell1 no, it’s your job to explain. My experience doesn’t match your claims
Thanks for this very useful video ! But don’t forget to defrost your freezer 😉
Fair enough 😂😂
You never explained the diff between "time lapse", and "hyper lapse"!?!?!?
The video is already super long 😂 if I included EVERYthing it would be like 1 and a half hours long.
testing pre-released stuff is always sketchy , not really fair and a huge question mark.
Is that castle in Italy ?
No it’s in the South of France!
Funny how suddenly no one is sponsored. Why is osmo out earlier then gopro?
Too much distortion in the lens of the DJI. And 5.3K video can't be beaten by the Gopro.
Mmm, did you watch my video? 😂 the DJI has less distortion and the 5.3k is no sharper than the 4k on the Action 4.
Your Opinion.@@LukeMaximoBell1
@@JohnIn2SonAZ I mean objectively the GoPro has more distortion and fisheye than the Action 4. That's just lens physics, not my opinion. I guess you could say it's my opinion that the GoPro is not sharper even at higher resolution. haha. But generally one watches TH-cam videos about these products to see peoples opinions on these products, so there you go.
If they sent him the product for free, it means its sponsored . ..unfortunately
Yeh that’s fair enough to think that way. That’s why I gave the disclaimer at the beginning.
U need quite a hair cut😂
I’m trying to grow it out 😂😂
