If you turn off stabilisation, what they call rocksteady on the 1, does it increase the FOV? On the action 1 it does. For in-car use turning off rocksteady gives a nice experience.
Yes, it does. As soon as you turn on stabilization, it will crop in a little bit. It needs that crop in order to do the stabilization. And that’s across the board for any action camera
Please, if the temperature sensor stops, is there a problem? If we set the temperature in PRO settings, the sensor will not make any color adjustments?
What's the angle of the view? Low cost cameras often have a very wide wideangle not catching objects at bit away. Sometimes near collision objects are hardly seen...
Max field view is 155° but of course if you put it down to standard it is going to bring things up closer. You always have the option as well to zoom in to times. But the thing with Action Cameras, there more designed for that Widefield of you, so you can get an immersive view of what you’re filming. Thanks for the great review Shawn. The overheating issues I have with my GoPro makes the DJI Action a very attractive option. I use my GoPro in very hot climates in South Africa and the GoPro overheats every single time.
Great review! If I plug in an external microphone, how can I power the camera from an external source? Both the GoPro MediaMod and the Mic Adapter have provision for power pass through.

When you ride on the bike one can see that the appearance of all the foliage and the leaves of the nature around are strongly pixelated because of the image compression. Is it due to TH-cam video compression or does your footage have the same looking? Is it possible to download somewhere a sample of original recording file? Thank you. I greatly appreciate the way you are precise in your explanations and making tests
It is definitely because of the TH-cam compression the footage looks absolutely stunning. That was one of the first things I noticed when viewing it on my iPad at full resolution just told incredible that looked.
@@AirPhotography That’s Very disappointing. What could we do to fix this? Which definition did you uploaded to TH-cam? 4K or 1080p? With how many key frame refresh per seconds? Not sure if it would change things. I personally use a cheap action cam to ride on a motorbike. The resulting footages have a lot of compression artefacts and highlights are burned. I would like to upgrade this equipment, but if it only fixes the issue with highlights, it doesn’t worth the money. From time to time I also use an insta360 X2 and it seems it’s producing better results. But I should double check because the very wide angle of the lenses of the 360 means less displacement of the objects far from the centre. I suppose…
Hi Shawn, great review thank you. I have the Osmo Action 3 and love it. How great must the 4 then be. One Question, what did you use to attach the Action 4 to your Avata?
Is there still an audio hiccup when joining longer videos that are broken into shorter 4 minute clips. The Action 3 wasn't able to do this. Video could stitch together seamlessly but the audio would have a small glitch.
I haven’t been able to test that out cause I wanna see the action for can record 17 GB file sizes. So you have to record for a very long time for it even need a split.
Cant help but love this review especially with the RC action. The footage looks amazing on the Action 4. Best I have seen yet over the Hero 11 & Insta 360 Go 3. Audio=very respectable. Hell, Im still working with the Original Action so I guess I need to upgrade...I must admit the single biggest thing I would love to see DJI impliment is Hero's Star Trails...that is bad to the bone.Wondering if you have had any issues with the 360 Go 3....that form factor alone make drone & RC use quit appealing. The Run Cam 5 Orange does a pretty "decent" job at that, and if you crash really bad, your only out $125
I agree I think, adding some night moved enhance the usability of this camera. And the nice thing is, that’s just software so it could be easily implemented. I’ve had no issues with go 3. I do use it for some shots if I need something ultra small and light The only limiting factor is the resolution on it.
Hi Shawn, I've been re watching all your osmo 4 videos as I'm more and more disillusioned with GoPro and the time it takes to transfer videos. I'm on the verge of ordering the osmo but know that the osmo 5 is being announced any time. I know you won't be able to give anything away at this stage probably but should I hang on?
You can use the 45° horizon leveling in 4K. If you want to use the 360° horizon leveling Max is 2.7 K. But it is cropped and fairly significantly so it’s not always a good choice. The 45° horizon leveling works very well for most scenarios and still has a nice wide crop.
This is a great review! I am now second guessing the Action 2 I just bought! Question since you also have experience with the Action 2 - will it automatically switch from the internal memory to the card when you have the dual screen module attached? I went down a white water river and the thing only recorded two 5.20 min clips and one 1.17 min clip in 2.7K 60. All on the internal memory. I turned it on at the start and wanted if to run until the battery died - it missed 3/4 of my trip! I have no idea why it recorded clips in 3 segments - it should have kept rolling! I still had 100% and 58% of battery life.!? Thanks for any insights. It was in a waterproof case - the footage it took looks awesome - it just stopped! What a drag!
I’m not sure when I will be in retail stores. It can be ordered on the Dji website and I believe it’s available on Amazon now. I’m not sure if it’s a prime product yet
awe.. i wish i would of saw this before i made the purchase for the gopro hero12 and max lens mod 2... however, GPH12 came out a month ago.. so its fairly new.. so maybe it could be better than this?
My man I really enjoyed that well done. I love the RC footage but I could not find the shots where the car seemed to do a wheelie? Did it just magically stabilize that or did you edit out shots of the sky? This isn’t a complaint, I’m just fascinated/curious. The horizon stability shots are so good they almost look fake! 😝👍👏
Hi Shawn! I've been watching all your Osmo Action 4 videos and have enjoyed and learned from them all. Like you, I enjoy riding my ebike and as of a few days ago, I recorded my first TH-cam video riding my bike. I recorded it in 1080P 60FPS and on my MacBook it looks great. However, when I posted it onto TH-cam, the video looked a bit blurry except for (relatively) stationary items like my handlebar. I know that you post a lot of riding videos and so I was wondering how you get around this annoyance? Thank you!
Yeah, TH-cam can really over compress videos. I get that actually quite a bit of mine. I do find a few upload in 4K. It’s a little bit easier on them. I tried to upload at 4K with 100 Mb. The downfall is it takes longer and eats up a lot of your storage space.
Not yet I’ve been having trouble getting one to me since I’ve been on the road all summer. But I will be picking one up next Tuesday. Then I’ll start my whole review process.
It’s from Traxxas it’s very large, but it is incredible. I don’t know if they sell it on Amazon or not. I’ll add a link to the description if they do. But you can just search for Traxxas Xmaxx They also have one that’s a little bit smaller and a little cheaper. It’s just called the maxx

I can only vouch for the rode as I don’t on the other brands, but as long as you’re using that USBC adapter cable, it works perfectly
Nice video I think I am going Dji for all future cameras
I suppose…
Thanks Sean for the review. I was wondering, can you connect and run the camera continuously with external power?
Yes you can!
Was going for the three but this larger sensor is much more interesting!
Indeed, but the sensor size is just part of the puzzle for the whole new imaging system. That makes footage look really good.
Hey Sean, I have the Action 3 and was wondering if the batteries from the Action 3 work in the Action 4?
Yes, they will
@@AirPhotography BTW Awesome RC car! Almost makes me wanna get one (Im 75)! :0)))
Hi Shawn, great review thank you. I have the Osmo Action 3 and love it. How great must the 4 then be. One Question, what did you use to attach the Action 4 to your Avata?
It was a little adapter that I ordered on Amazon. If you just do a search for Dji avata Gopro, Mount. There are several that come up.
xmaxx for the win but great camera!, do you need any adapters to run action 4 on the avata
Yes, I purchased a avata camera mount on Amazon. I think it was like $20. We have a couple different styles.
I would like to buy one but I see a lot of blur when vibrating a little and when you turn.
Very informative... Thank you.
Thank you and thanks for watching
i see some pixalisation on the footage specially in moving shots. Is this because of youtube video compression ??
perfect review, thanks!
Thanks for watching!
With Hero 12 about to launch not sure the Action4 will cut it. I do want one of those RC cars though. What brand and model is that!?
Indeed, it will be interesting to see how it plays out
Cant help but love this review especially with the RC action.
Agree 100%. Thank you kind sir, for all you do. @@AirPhotography
Personally, I have no information. I know there have been some leaks in one can only assume it will be coming soon, but I’m not sure when.
Confused, can you use any type of horizon levelling in 4K? My only concern 😉
You can use the 45° horizon leveling in 4K. If you want to use the 360° horizon leveling Max is 2.7 K. But it is cropped and fairly significantly so it’s not always a good choice. The 45° horizon leveling works very well for most scenarios and still has a nice wide crop.
@@AirPhotography thanks for clarifying that 👍
This is a great review!
When will it be in stores ?
I’m not sure when I will be in retail stores. It can be ordered on the Dji website and I believe it’s available on Amazon now. I’m not sure if it’s a prime product yet
Also, what type of cable is used to connect to a computer?
You can connect with a USB-C to USB-C or USB-C to USB a both will work just fine
awe.. i wish i would of saw this before i made the purchase for the gopro hero12 and max lens mod 2... however, GPH12 came out a month ago.. so its fairly new.. so maybe it could be better than this?
Why on DJI website it doesn't say how many MP is the sensor?
Hey! Does it have a hindsight feature like GoPro!?
No, it does not. But we’ll see if DJI add some new features with firmware.
@@AirPhotography they did it!! I updated my action 4 yesterday now we have the pre record feature
The camera was not attached to the car when I was doing those. I was using it to film the car.
@@AirPhotography haha I totally get it! That was a lie I told myself that you had two cameras rolling 😝👍
Can you plug inn the dji mic into the osmo action 3? Same way
Yes you can
Great review. I have the Hero11, but I am getting tired of the overheating. However, I can get 200 Mbps. What does the Action 4 output?
Depends on a few different factors. I believe it’s between 100 and 125 ish
@@AirPhotography Thank you for the reply, Shawn! I'm going to try your 4K settings and see what happens. Thanks again.
Hey Sean! Have you flown the new DJI Air 3 yet?
Not yet I’ve been having trouble getting one to me since I’ve been on the road all summer. But I will be picking one up next Tuesday. Then I’ll start my whole review process.
@@AirPhotography sounds great. Hope you're enjoying this summer to remember
What's the link for that RC Car you have? What a beast. Footage from it looked awesome.
