The Grand Old Opry is not what it used to be. It has become a social club with members backstabbing other singers/songwriters behind their backs. George Straight is a perfect example. He is a true legend. If the Opry is so ignorant not to recognize this it is their own fault.
I really was not surprised by the List. A few of them may be asked to join the Opry if they are making regular appearances at the Opry Shows. Toby Keith living in Oklahoma prevents him from performing at the Opry the required amount of times to be a member. That is the same reason for George Strait because he lives in Texas. A lot of the Artists that were mentioned are out on the Road doing Tours and probably don’t have time to perform regularly at the Opry.

If you don't sacrifice enough - translation you won't make any money here compared to what playing a single stadium would pay you. No thanks I'll just have to console myself with making millions more instead.
Why the heck is everyone hating on the Grand Ole Opry? It has always been the mother church of country music and still is. Several of the artists including George Strait actually turned down their invitation due to where they lived and not being able to keep the commitment. The Opry has a required amount of dates artists have to play annually. For example Charlie Pride turned down his initial invitation due to touring dates but late he accepted an invitation and became a member. Being a member of any organization has requirements, it doesn’t make the organization bad. These artists have not been “snubbed”. Why don’t ya’ll do some actual research instead of listening to a random AI voice that can’t even pronounce “Opry” correctly. The irony is several of the clips actually show the artist performing on the Opry stage and singing the Oprys praise, do you think they would do that if they felt snubbed?
Yep, a few months ago when George Strait sold out the largest indoor ticketed concert in history ( over 110,000 People) I'm sure he was up on the stage thinking to himself........ I wish I was playing the Opry tonight.......Not!
The Opry has become a Nashville social club. And it could be that George Strait snubbed the Opry. The Opry ain't what it used to be, and that's the truth.
Why George Strait is not a member is plain and simply a crime! This man has done more for pure Country music than anyone since Hank Williams. It must simply be a Tennessee prejudice against Texans - likely why Toby Keith was never made a member before he passed-away.
I watched the Grand Ole Opry when I was a kid. It was a great show. It's gone downhill since then, in my opinion. I mean, who wouldn't let George Strait of all people in??
IMO the opry was started as a way for an artist to get a large exposure for their music...not be paid very well and go on the road immed after .....this worked ok initially but with advent of tv etc...hav talked to people who lived in Nashville and "stars" were living nearby,,,this doesnt happen nowadays,,,,I'm sure it;s helpful if you live in Nashville to do this show as I doubt it pays much even nowadays...so as to why they don't perform there just ask "Mr Green"......imo
Because Gene sings and records what he wants, when he wants, where he wants. Gene is his own boss. No one owns him or tells him what to do. He'll get in there one day. Conway Twitty was the same way
The Grand ole Opry is just another icon that seems to have gotten too big for it's britches, I don't think the modern day country western fan gives a flip about the Opry. If the Opry thinks that Little Jimmy dickens or Donna Fargo had a bigger influence on country music than George Strait or Shania Twain... they can just go ahead and close the doors and sit around and play bluegrass music to each other!
George Strait is country music cmon all these great country stars not in. Is ths thing rigged. Yup.... Boooo cjanges my way if thinking about this organization. It taints it badly
Sadly, country music is no longer, country music. The Opry and all the politics behind being a member turned many great artists and songwriters against joining. The latest People's Choice Awards at the Opry demonstrated just how far country music has lost its roots, how much pop and rap now influence country songs, instead of great storytelling that was the foundation for country decades ago. I began with Eddy Arnold in the 60s and 70s, Roger Miller, John Denver, and progressed through the "Murder On Music Row" era. Few real folks who listened to WSM in the heyday, listen or watch now. Real country is alive, but not where you'd think you'd find it. George Hay would not recognize, nor would he like, what the Opry has become. Just as fans of real country don't like what has become of country. Country music no longer stands for American values and sad storytelling, it stands for radical politics, questionable morals and too often anymore, anything but country.
The way I look at it is if all this holds any truth it's the Grand Ole Opry is losing out on some absolutely fantastic singers or artist. You can't judge Hank Williams because alcoholism is a disease it's just really sad how people get picky about stuff like this if they're doing a good job keeping it clean and making it and when I say keeping it clean I'm talking about the mouth (nastiness) then I don't see what you would think that these people aren't good enough for the Grand Ole Opry...really sad ..... so judgemental

Good information on the Opry. I am not sure they are doing what is good for the Opry.
George strait needs to be in the part of the oprt activity more oftem becoused George strait is the king of the country music
The Opry rules on appearances in a specific time frame turned those stars off. Using the word snubbed was reversed. They snubbed the Opry.

Thankfully a singer doesn’t need to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry to be in the Country Music Hall of Fame.

To be a member of the Opry you have to commit to performing a number of times a year as needed. Some are just not going to do that.
