    I forgot to mention... there is a fantastic Crimson Fleet mod that adds new crimson fleet clothing that is upgradable. I'm so impressed with the new clothing armors and have decked myself, and andreja in them. We are two crimson fleet rabble rousers. Couple this mod with the no angry followers mod, and you have a dynamic crimson fleet playthrough without the nasty side effects. On top of all this, both mods are free. If you wanted to pay for a mod, the Crimson Fleet ship habs are the way to go. 100% worth it and blows the socks off anything bethesda is creating.

      Elianora is a good reference point. Long time modder, "verified creator", part of the launch PR for the Creation Store. I assume she's ideologically 'read in' on the Bethesda vision for the store as well. I notice she's selling her creations in the store too (TheRealElianora). High quality work as you recognized.
      There's a lot of room for very low effort mods and skins that could still be free over time. Most people recognized not all mods are equal. There's also a lot of room to drive quality into the mods. More near flawless execution at the code level and fewer mods that break seemingly non-related things.
      There's a need for balance. On one end the ability for anyone with a dream, time and enough talent to start to have access and the ability to offer their earliest ideas into the community.
      On the other end, a functioning market place that ensured the best of the best (without having the wear a Microsoft badge or fill out a W-9) can make a good living contributing to a community that truly values them and doesn't just like free things.
      I am still optimistic.

    • @kineer
      @kineer  14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      They'll zero in on pricing over time. That's basic economics and marketing. There will always be people (not just creators) that buy it because they can. There's an entire world full of people buying things I find mind boggling, but that's their choice. I had an econ teacher many years ago that swore the greatest value known was a bass boat. Clearly to most of us kids in his class, that made no sense to us, but that was his point. He worked his job to make enough money to fish and we would find his investments there absurd, but they were his. I'm happy to wait and see how it turns out. I'm sure they'll keep dropping things in the store and after 6-12 months we'll have a clearer picture of how they see value.

    I like the design of the outfit, but there are some key issues I can't overlook. Let me break it down.
    "Water Cooled": No Thermal.
    "Mining Outfit": Does Crit Damage do *ANYTHING* for mining?

    • @yippykayakotherbuckets8870
      @yippykayakotherbuckets8870 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Maybe +crit to the Cutter?

    • @Starcat5
      @Starcat5 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@yippykayakotherbuckets8870 Do critical hits cause mining to happen faster? No, seriously, I wondered that but had no easily accessible answer.

    • @kineer
      @kineer  15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      You may be on to something there. The cutter is a continuously firing laser I think. Might be a meaningful crit boost.

    • @Starcat5
      @Starcat5 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@kineer It all depends on how mining is calculated. Luckily, we can test for that now. All we need is a modded Cutter with boosted damage, and no other change. If the modded Cutter can mine an otherwise slow to mine ore, like Citrine, faster than a base Cutter, then the damage boost from +Crit is actually helpful. If it is not faster, then mining is calculated per hit, and +Crit means nothing.
      Sadly, I am currently slumming it on a decade-old PC while the repair place continues to give me the runaround. Testing this theory will half to fall to others for now.

    • @kineer
      @kineer  14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I was just thinking of the cutter as a weapon and not particularly worried about the actual mining aspect. You can get Elemental Pull through the temple chase and that turns out to be more productive than using a cutter for mining anyway in the long wrong. I have seen videos of people leveling up laser skill (which at 4 can possibly proc fire), using a Cutter and ending up with a crazy damage output (against aliens, humanoid enemies).

      If you are on PC, search for Starfield ContentCatalog.txt (or look for the mod at Nexus). There's something odd going on since the June update that corrupts that file. When I look at mine, the version numbers for specific Creations contain non-printable characters and then I can't go into the store.
      So at this point, I keep a backup of the file and copy it back. The mod at Nexus does that for you.
      I've not noticed this happening on Xbox.

    Todd: "We're going to look at the pricing of things"...
    ... Continues to release Beth Creations for obnoxious prices. Free mods for habs, clothes, gun skins, etc will continue to outperform and ruin bethesda's reputation. That said, I wonder if Bethesda will shut down any mods that plan to duplicate their paid creations. Tracker missions, Camo skins, blackout skins, etc. They're just digging their own graves on these

    • @kineer
      @kineer  14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It's unfortunate, a lot of people didn't really understand (hear) what Todd Howard said in the interview. I don't blame Matty as he was in the middle of the biggest (?) interview of his career, but some others really spun it inaccurately later. I don't know if they heard what they wanted to hear or were farming engagement, but I'll quote from the transcript I wrote up after the interview and add my interpretation.
      "I do think we're going to take a look at that and how we deliver content, you know, like that and whether we're changing pricing or breaking it up or what we should do there" - Todd Howard
      This entire section is worth listening to:
      th-cam.com/video/2ew8LQFGNWU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=vLK1ynGne7P51QJM&t=2548
      "We hear the feedback, we need to evaluate, you know, both pricing and what we put out for free how we communicate what's in something" - Todd Howard
      Second section.
      th-cam.com/video/2ew8LQFGNWU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jTlDZZjLfKZcx4Mr&t=2717
      What jumped out at me, what I clearly heard him say was NOT "We're going to change pricing because people didn't like it." I then watched a lot of people tell themselves that's what he said, but he didn't. Maybe he's just crafty with terms. Maybe people heard what they wanted to hear, a form of confirmation bias.
      What he said was (my interpretation), "We know how to price for the value included, but also can tell people didn't understand the value so we'll look for ways to either explain that better or break it up so they can understand it in the future."
      So if we look at a July $4 outfit (and literally just an outfit) and compare it to the Vulture DLC which contained two outfits, a gun and was offered at the same time a significant DLC/game feature (Tracker's Alliance) was given away for free, I'm still of the opinion the lesson they will take away is "Don't give away anything for free going forward. Players will pretend it has no value and attack us for the optional part. So the controversy over The Vulture and Tracker's Alliance content will just ensure higher prices for content going forward.
      Just my 'read' on the discussion and time will tell. It won't destroy Microsoft or Bethesda. I've not tracked down the original MSFT financial results, but the Minecraft Marketplace brought in $350M in revenue a few years back. They claim 50% of the went back to the modders.
      It will be interesting to see if Bethesda fans can somehow convince Microsoft you can't build a successful modding community and marketplace. I'm betting it's a inevitable future.

    The black shotty skin would be good if I ever used one. The weapon skins pack is not bad, but I'd only use it on the pacifier as I'm not a fan of the white weapons either. The miner's outfit is not a value for me at all. I don't like the aesthetics and the environmentals are inferior to the xenofresh free outfit. 400 points for a single outfit does not sit well in comparison the Vulture, which is 2 outfits, a really fun gun, and a bit of story for 700. This is just me, but I was pretty hopeful after Todd's interview that he has heard the feedback. This felt like he really didn't hear or doesn't care. Maybe I'm reading into it too much. I do appreciate your take that they are trying to set the tone for pricing for all creators.

    • @kineer
      @kineer  16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The miner outfit has almost no value from an environmental protection standpoint. I also am starting to suspect all the photos in the store were dark so they could hide how 'vibrant' it was. I might start just calling it the Mardi Gras Miner costume.
      Regarding Todd Howard's comments on MrMattyPlays interview, I took a cynical view of what he said. He may have 'heard' the feedback, but I didn't hear him say they'd change pricing. He defended their approach and it sounded like they were just going to present it differently going forward, i.e. explaining value.
      For now, all I can say is that round two of Bethesda paid Creations is underwhelming.

      I don't know the best place to "apply the money to the system", but I do believe that if we can compensate the creative people that add value for us we'll get more of them and better (and better) mods. Bethesda can help structure the market, but their content isn't (shouldn't be) the center of the universe. That's why I don't mind them making and offering it in anyway, but I want to see Starfield mature into mod without some of the pitfalls other games have hit. Time will tell.

  • @CatDadGamer
    @CatDadGamer 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Mentioning creating a price ceiling... But it could end up being the other way around. They could use this as price floors. Not saying it will happen, but if Bethesda becomes greedy enough, they could implement all mods to have a price floor that would strictly be bethesda's cut. $4 for an outfit, but the mod author is allowed to attach their own price, say $3, which would bring the cost of the outfit to $7 total. Does it sound outlandish? It should... but sadly, it's very possible that this could happen.
    Not only that, but they could implement a subscription for mod usage instead. $10 a month to have access to download, install, and use mods. I'm on xbox so there's no way that I could change files like on PC. Again, it sounds outlandish... but this is a corporation who was going bankrupt before microsoft bought them. They also are now showing that they have no qualms about charging $4 for an ugly outfit that serves zero purpose besides the way that in looks, in a single player game.
    The fact is, unless this community steps up, en masse, to denounce these practices, and stops paying for these things, Bethesda can, and will, use that as leverage against the community. As a side note, I still have not purchased the $7 tracker mission. I played the first mission and was very unimpressed with what was offered. If I compare the new trackers alliance to Fallout 4's automaton dlc, there is A LOT to be desired for. I would maybe pay $5 for the new addition plus all additional missions added to the TA.

    Mods don’t matter when the game is broken had 3 different characters level them all up to level 50 1st one was a pirate and the game freezes up every time I tried landing on the key 2nd one was a soldier vanguard wouldn’t let me betray the fleet then started freezing on every save 3rd one was a vanguard again as soon as I hit level 50 started freezing up every time I try landing on New Atlantis maybe a modder can fix the game because Bethesda apparently won’t or can’t waste of 100 bucks

      This is troubling. Been through the Unity? I found my oldest games had issues that would never be addressed even if the triggers were patched so a reset of the game was needed.
      Have you searched for each of these on their discord (or on Reddit). Sometimes there are suggested solutions. I'm dabbling more with the Xbox version of the game and getting a feel for the issues there.

      As a content creator (of a different type), I don't mind TH-cam dealing with all the logistics between me and advertisers.
      I don't know the best solution for the mod space, but I've had enough trouble trying to donate to modders that I'd rather see a well functioning market in place. I am not convinced Bethesda could or would do it well, but Microsoft has a massive market for Minecraft content. There are modders there working professionally and the quality is higher than ever.
      Right now, social media sites are awash in complaints about mods breaking the game in ways I wouldn't have imagined.
      There's no perfect answer, but I generally support efforts that 'move the needle' in the direction. That direction is gamers having fun, paying for value to the extent they choose, and creators getting a fair cut of the value they add without IP owners acting in predacious ways.
      tl;dr: I like it when there are more gamers and creators in the mix and fewer lawyers and MBAs. Markets can help, but have to be done right. Time will tell. I'm still optimistic.
