Starfield - Easy Legendary Weapons - Works for Low and High Level Characters - SEE JUNE UPDATE NOTE

  • If they just left Legendary Weapons just sitting out for you to take, wouldn't you?
    This method was never a secret. No one was hiding it, but if you're like me you just blasted past it for months not knowing just how good it is.
    This approach doesn't require chasing low spawn rate ships or killing the same Spacer or Ecliptic boss 100 times.
    Just travel the settled systems hunting some of the best weapons in the game for free. I've converted most of my goto weapons to Legendaries in a short time.
    JUNE UPDATE: My brief testing after the update is yielding no Notes in the inventory of Provisioners. Only hit 10 or so new sites, but the category itself is missing and leads me to believe either Bethesda removed it from the game to work on bugs or my game has advanced/changed in some way as to remove them as an option (level 150 character, NG+5). With all the other new updates, I won't have time to test this soon. If it still works for you or stopped working, leave a comment.

    UPDATE - process accelerator from thread below: If you identify a Provisioner and find they have a 'stash note', do NOT take it immediately. Back out of the dialog, create a Quicksave and then re-open the dialog. The stash note isn't finalized/set as a specific weapon until you actually take it. This Quicksave standing in front of a Provisioner with a confirmed stash note in inventory can be restored repeatedly to trigger a different weapon. With this variation, you can work one vendor instead of cycling two. Shaves time off the loop!
    Thanks to DavidM-Kiwi and nikolaip for sharing.

  • @DavidM-Kiwi
    @DavidM-Kiwi หลายเดือนก่อน +19

    Actually, you can save immediately before opening the Provisioner dialogue and restore that save if you don't get a stash note that appeals. Saves a fair bit of time over your method.

      @@kineer I did your method of fast traveling to the Outposts and talking to the Provisioner until they had a directions note. Then I'd back out of the dialog and quicksave, and then just keep talking and reloading from that point until I got a new weapon I wanted. I'd then go see what it was, and if it wasn't legendary I would just reload the quicksave and do it all over again.

    Thx, great content! I've found 2 of these stash locations on level 75 planets from civ outpost. Both were legendary. The abandoned science outpost had an adv big bang (ext mag, rapid, and Concussive). Sometimes the outposts have an abandoned mineral supply stash as well floating in space.

    it never crossed my mind to savescum these vendors for weapon notes, brilliant idea! Will certainly do this and stop ignoring the friendly outposts.
    Clearing (certain) facilities way above my level became second nature, often safescumming the boss until they drop me the good stuff. So I always have decent weapons but like Andreja use to say "I am always willing to carry another weapon, or two, or three....")

    Will they ever sell you another stash directions after you complete one, or is it a one and done kind of thing? Can you reset it by sleeping on Venus?

    • @kineer
      @kineer  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's a good question and I can describe how I think it happens. Some outposts in my larger circuit have white icons and others have grey ones. The White ones seem to only give me the non-Stash notes. The grey ones seem to be undiscovered when I return and get the on screen banner as I approach "MINING OUTPOST" . I am certain I've been ther before, but a long sleep seems to reset them. *edit: Tested again and it was not what reset them to grey. Not sure what did, but the long sleep didn't do it.*
      To know for sure, I'd need to log each location, the NPCs characteristics and what they have in inventory. Or I could do a test with just one site, but I can never tell if it's just an anomaly on the one outpost that way. I like to have a lot of sites to visit to spot patterns.
      Haven't done that as I have plenty of "unused" outposts on other planets I can farm if I choose going forward.

    • @kineer
      @kineer  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's good know. There's an entire 'loot table' game going on in the code that may not yield it's secrets to simple statistical observations, but [oddly enough] that's part of the game for me too. ;)

  • @cho2969
    @cho2969 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Is it possible that the stash notes are actually pointing to weapons that already exist in-game - which would explain why the rarity and traits don't change once the stash note is obtained?

    • @kineer
      @kineer  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Could be. I've always wondered which items are generated a) at game start, b) when you reach a system, c) land on a planet. Very much like staring at at black box, wondering how it works inside at times. I try to conduct semi-organized experiments, but it's a game so I don't really go that far (and my conclusions are close, but not always as rigorous as I'd like).
      edit: As it turns out the stash notes are essentially 'unwritten' until you buy it from the vendor. Then it's assigned a weapon and location. If you don't buy the stash note when you first see it in their inventory, back out, create a quicksave, then buy the note you can restore that quicksave repeatedly spawning a different weapon location.

  • @billboyd753
    @billboyd753 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The stash was not the same, 1st top weapon Painblade , 2nd time Osmium dagger. So i think its possible to try several times and maybe get a change.

    • @kineer
      @kineer  หลายเดือนก่อน

      In comment on this video, a viewer notes that if you find a vendor with the stash note and you do NOT take it immediately, instead backing out of the dialog and doing a quicksave, you can then save scum that specific vendor very quickly. The stash notes don't become specific weapons until you take it from their inventory. You still need to find vendors with the note at least once, but you could work a single vendor without looking for others.

    • @kineer
      @kineer  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I tested this successfully with a level 15 character (new start during May beta), a non-NG+ level 103 (original start Oct. 2023), and my NG+5 level 147 (original start Sep. 2023). I would hope BGS wouldn't cut off something like this at higher levels.
      I was most concerned there was a starter/low level limit, like finding Hard Targets for sale only after level 30, but even the level 15 found Provisioners with notes. Of course, they told him about a Tanto, but I kept trying and got a nicer gun relatively quickly at Muybridge site.
      Not directly related to the Notes (but maybe), a viewer comment they got a Hard Target and an Inflictor, two guns I did NOT see across ten planets/moons (14 outposts) in over 100 attempts. I suspect that like ships, the planets have loot tables generated for weapons AND Provisioner inventory as well.
      That is a guess looking at the blackbox of Starfield/Bethesda-mind.
      I'm going to find 10 untouched planets and see if I get a different weapon distribution.
      I might also take a level 5 character, fresh off the Frontier/Lodge and see if I can get them a legendary.

    Any method to reset an outpost (or any other facility) to the “undiscovered” state?
    (refill its loot, provisioner’s notes, etc)
    From what I’ve read, passing time through sleeping has no effect.
    So, maybe exploring more new facilities does the trick?
    Like in Fallout 76 where the game keeps a list of the last 255 items you have recently looted and then releases the oldest item so it becomes lootable again.

    • @kineer
      @kineer  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Since the June update, I am not seeing "Notes" of any kind on Provisioners at outposts.
      To be transparent, I've been very distracted by the new content to I've not tested much (maybe an hour of looking).
      Unless it's just my game/save (possible), I'm beginning to suspect Bethesda removed Notes from the game while they fixed them. The ':' in the weapons, the identical traits on every weapon, make it look like it was broken.

    • @foteinimantzali8691
      @foteinimantzali8691 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      If that’s the case it’s sad. It was a nice way to pass time by “gambling” rolls. And it was not that easy or fast to be considered an exploit.
      Regardless, besides the Notes, do you know any method to reset facilities in general?
      (mainly restock their loot, etc)

    • @kineer
      @kineer  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I usually try a series of things starting with short (local) waits, fast traveling away/return, and eventually long sleeps on Copernicus IV (or Venus). Not the most sophisticated approach, but I also haven't been diligent in tracking when POI icons return to grey so I don't have great correllation info there (yet?).

    The perks seem to always be:
    Anti-Personnel
    Handloading

      @kineer  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I remember seeing the ":" on an Epic weapon from this. Really stands out. Hard to believe that's not a basic code problem. Somewhere a closing quote is missing in the game code. Might also be related to the non-randomness of traits.

  • @jameskelly4494

    I wonder if this is tied to certain levels. I am on XBox running 1 character only. Presently on NG15 and level 270 I think (have not been playing much lately). Was not even anwhere that notes were a thing. So was in Huygens system and figured I would hit a few Civilian Outpost and Industrial sites. Did about a dozen reloading from landings and also reloads before talking to Provisioneers and no Notes or Stash Notes were in any vendors. Starting to believe that does not exist at higher levels and particularly higher levels on XBox.

    • @kineer
      @kineer  27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      There are a lot of things in the game tied to level, some that make no sense (buying ship parts?). So I wouldn't discount the idea even though I can't think of a reason Bethesda would want anyone to not have access to the 'notes' and weapons. That said, the Legendaries that spawn this way have what looks like a clear code bug (the symbol ':' in the perk list). I'm scratching my head on accounts that people aren't finding them. I've seen them at normal Trade Authority vendors too. Maybe much more randomly spread around the game.

    Quicksave when you see a weapon note seems ok. Apart from that, this seems just as tedious as save scumming.

    • @kineer
      @kineer  หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are many ways to deploy a strategy like this. Imagine if you will the point (not in the video) where I had found 10 separate outposts for stash notes at the same time, worked them in parallel, doing a single restore if I didn't like the results. On some passes I had 2-3 weapon location quests I could pursue. Sometimes none. Sometimes all melee weapons. I wanted to see how this could scale.
      If you have identified a single vendor, save scummed until they have a stash note (or were just lucky they had one when you arrived), then making another save while standing in front of them and restoring it until you get the single weapon you'd like is a one way of doing this. I found that to be more tedious than fast traveling between ten locations. I think it is more effective since you never deal with not having a stash note, but it lacks the anticipation that comes from running up to a vendor and discovering the outcome. It lacks the variety of moving between outpost types.
      Not to paint the process in the darkest manner, but one is like sitting in front of a slot machine that's always guaranteed to pay off "something". The other is moving around the casino from dealer to dealer to play a single hand at each table before moving to the next knowing you will definitely win "some" hands. Something, something, dopamine cycle. :)
      I think there's also a pure efficiency experiment, but I only measure times occasionally for baselines.
      Ultimately the point of the game is spending time in an enjoyable manner and that is entirely personal. :)

      I've never found a "Trader" that had Notes, only Provisioners. When I see an Outpost of any kind from space (identified by the game, not me), I always land away from it in a remote location and make my save there from inside the ship. I exit the ship, fast travel to the Outpost.
      This approach is based on a belief that the Outpost details aren't set until I set foot in the local grid. This is verifiable because the Provisioner is a different NPC model each time I fast travel. For example, it could be a male with a beard in one iteration, a female with a specific accent the next. In any case, they change every single time. If you are seeing the same NPC then you are not successfully restoring to the right point. Find a new planet or moon that you've never been on and try it there.
      Once I'm successfully resetting the Outpost (and getting a different NPC), I will eventually get a Stash note. That's the RNG working for/against us at a rate of around 20%.

      Specific POIs on planets will be different for each player. Should generally look for similar profiles like the system level and in some cases the types of biomes. However, I've seen viewers report that POIs that would normally seem dependent on water have shown up on cratered moons. Odd, but that's the RNG evidently.

      With the new Astra system, Legendaries are essentially built into the game in a save scummable way.
      The probabilities are further split since Stache provides both weapons and suits/packs/helmets so chances of getting a specific weapon became even smaller, but if you're patient (or willing to watch movies while doing it?) then it's just a matter of hanging out at the Tracker's Alliance HQ and offering him 3 Astras time and time again. :)

    • @kineer
      @kineer  27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      From my observations, the game populates some of the planets with POIs beyond the truly custom ones. These are standard POIs including Abandoned Hangars, Science Outposts, Civilian Outposts. I just took a level 6 character with virtually no skills out to Eredani and found two Civilian Outposts just by opening the map. Once you are on the planet, if you wander around (or just open your local maps), you can often see ones that are populated only after you land in a grid. I don't know if either type is more or less likely to spawn useful Provisioners, but the sites are essentially "just there."

      Just a follow up, but after the June update, not finding Notes of any kind. Haven't had much time to chase this (vs. looking at the new content) but I'll have to circle back to it or find another source of Legendary weapons.

    Neat option... I don't see it as "better" than save-scumming a bad guy who's got a sliver of health, in any way, but it is a DIFFERENT way, which has an appeal all it's own.
    If I were against save-scumming completely, this would be a good thing to add to the rotation for farming legit. But the second you re-load this save... well. I don't see much advantage here. Maybe if, specifically, you're hunting for a specific class of weapon that seems to be highlighted in this method. Unless it's pulling from a smaller pool of higher quality affects. Because you DO have some good rolls there, that random roll you got was very nice.

      I have no arguments against players choosing how much time to spend in a single player game and getting rewards. All these techniques are just that, a choice by the player in the context of finite time. I know if I go the next step and just spawn things in, something clicks in my mind that changes the game forever. I avoid that for that reason alone. That said, I also like tactics that both PC and Xbox players should be able to use. Anything based on save/restore seems like good common ground, but even there some people have problems using it.
      From there it's a matter of personal preference and perhaps the set-up time and knowledge required to make something work.
      My hope is that people watching my channel have the information that helps them load up on big ships, nice suits/packs/helmets and weapons quickly or slowly as they choose. Some will crank up the difficulty and fight hard for every piece of gear they get, earning their own satisfaction just how they like it. Others might be spawning in anything they desire, running amuck, laying waste to armies of Ecliptic with glee. It's all good in my book.

      Is that a specific type. I think I've seen 2-3 different ones. The "Little Shop of Horrors" variant has a mini-boss and loot. The other one has a skill magazine.

      What's happening for you? I had it break a couple months ago, all the doors were closed. I just did it twice in the last few nights. Once on my NG+ and then on a level 19 in survival mode. PC. Went well. I unleased Ghengis on the Settled Systems.

    So, Stash notes are like Panther Piss, 60% of the time it works every time!?😂

    • @kineer
      @kineer  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have never heard that term before. :)
      1. Finding Outposts is 100%. They are all over the game, common POIs.
      2. Finding Outposts where you have a Provisioner (vs. Trader) is close to 90% for me (of the top of my head, not recorded/tabulated)
      3. Provisioners with what I'm calling "stash notes" is around 20%.
      4. Once you have a stash note, the chance of the weapon you want widely varies. Melees are very common, but under 50%.
      The rest is a discussion of Bernoulli trials. ;)
