I'm so excited to finally have a beginner animator friendly app that isn't made for kids and can also do some really cool stuff, basically following your growth

    • @TooToo246

It's cool, but the reason why this type of 'mechanical' animation is not used on a professional level, is because it's just too restrictive and looks...well...mechanical!......Now adays, this method is only used for small stuff. Logo animations, splash screens, infographic animation, storybook-style animation, and small loops used in backgrounds and special effects...etc. But for actual full on piece of animation, this won't do!

They actually mentioned at the revea that they’ve developed a whole new processing engine for Dreams, one that expands the capabilities of the previous procreate engine! From what I remember at maximum it allows us to make a canvas with 1M px by 1M px (now that’s insane to use) but if the software can support that, I’m sure it’ll expand the number of frames we can use in a project vastly! Plus the fact that it’ll allow us to export in 4K and supposedly 8k I think greatly shows the power this app will have!

So, I watched the video in full and took a few notes. I use ToonSquid as my animation software, and I have no intention of switching any time soon, but I was curious about this and wanted to make some comparisons. Seeing that this is a review of a beta version, some things I’ll list may be fixed or optimized later on making this list go out of date. I don’t have this program, so I’ll be making comparisons for Procreate Dreams based on the Procreate app and Brad’s review. That being said, let’s start… (“O”=Pros/ “X”=Cons)
      Toon Squid:
      O - Cheaper price ($10)
      O - Simple timeline
      O - Keyframe easing
      X - Limited brushes
      X - No filtering
X - Simple brush editing and customization
      O - Pivot editing
      O - Transform hierarchy
O - Raster and Vector drawing
      Procreate Dreams:
      X - Starting price ($20)
      X - Complex timeline
      X - Linear keyframes
      O - Large brush library
O - Layer filters and effects
O - Advanced brush editing and customization
      X - Center based pivoting
      X - No available rigging
O - More detailed raster drawing
      Both:
O - Pay once, keep forever
      O - Canvas customization
O - Unlimited frames and layers
O - Brush editing and customization
O - Brush stabilization and smoothing
O - Import brushes (Relative softwares)
      O - Multiple blend modes
      O - Stroke/Shape assist
O - Import photos, videos, and audio
      O - Frame-by-frame and onion skin layers
      O - Multiple export options
Maybe I’m missing a few things, but these are to name a few differences. Trying to be as non biased as I can. In my opinion, Procreate Dreams seems more of a moving illustration app than an animation app. In regards to animation, I still think ToonSquid is superior. Both programs will no doubt improve overtime, but we’ll see how it goes.

I am really excited for this! One of the things I have suffered with with Procreate is that whenever I want to truly (key frame) animate something, I have to export the file as a psd to bring it over to my computer and import into After Effects. Its cumbersome, and if I have made a mistake, I have to go back to the og file on procreate and do the whole thing over again. This just erases that whole step, which is amazing. Also, it cannot be overstated how much it appeals to me that this is a one time purchase. Screw Adobe and their subscriptions, I hate it so much.

Very cool animation tool! One SUPER important thing is missing on this app that I did not see is the Easy In/Out and curves, without it is a deal breaker. Where is the bones tools? Also, is vector based? I have seeing anyone saying that it is vector based, another deal breaker. I hope it has curvers to control animation and it is vector based/bones for IK. One more thing... Parent control of layers, without it a deal breaker as well.
Things that this app must have in 2023:
    1. Bones
    2. Curves for motion/easy in/out, etc.
    3. Parent link.
    4. Export with Alpha.
    5. Also, sound is extream important, able to sink audio to motion like flash does.
