the thing is that the argument doesnt make sense since your main example is a character that has existed since launch (and even before from what i heard) and whose coolest moment has existed before we even saw a single jiggle from Burnice. Is not a change or indication of new things if they do what they already said they were gonna do.
Honestly, I'm pretty hyped for the possibility of that being a future direction! I'm not really the type to be amused by people commenting on how fine and sexy characters are. I can understand what they mean and appreciate it to an extent, but it makes me a little peeved when they won't talk about anything else. Jane is a cool character, in personality, how she says things, possible story direction and possible backstory. One of my favorite things is coming up with theories or guessing about might happen, so it's a little sad when most of the people I find into ZZZ just wanna talk about Jane being thicctouille constantly. I kind of think that the physics and assets were mainly to reel in an audience, before they chill a bit. Obviously, I don't think they'll stop completely, and I don't think I or most of the fans would want them to, but I do think that it'll be toned down a little. To clarify, I'm not saying I don't want big booba characters with noice jiggle physics, it's just that I like it when that's not the only reason why other people want to pull for a character. In any case, as long as I still like the story, the vibe and the characters, I'll be pretty happy :>

Its never really an important part of her character and the story does a good job at propping up how skilled she is and puts her in situations that force her to use skills that have nothing to do with her attractiveness. At the same time she doesn't try to pretend like she isn't sexy but her sex appeal never feels like it takes attention away from her other endearing character traits. Her sexiness is a PART of her character but its not HER character. Honestly, even tho it was a glorified ad campaign, her arc my have the strongest writing in the whole series narrative wise.
I think we are just moving into character with personalitys and styles that don't lend themselves to the "gooner bait" as they call it. We are moving away from a "rough" care free biker gang to a more professional military like group. I'm not expecting that kind of style of character design from section 6 like i would from sons of Caledon. I think zzz is just giving characters alot of different players will enjoy. I'm sure they will circle back around to very style zzz deems marketable as long as the lights are on.
it really just comes down to the fact they gave all these characters and factions so much personality even in the current caste there is a balance between the serious and the silly personalities often complimenting each other.
There's a stark contrast between both factions. The sons of Caladon are free spirited, anything goes, biker gang. And Section 6 is an extremely disciplined, no nonsense, badass, military division. So yeah it's easy to see a gang of biker chicks dressing the way that they do, and the way that the military units dress, but I would honestly be surprised if the VERY next character after Section 6 isn't gooner bait (male or female).

I think its a quite reductive to call the previous cast of characters we have compared to the future to be "coomer bait". I mean obviously certain characters like Jane Doe are extra sexualized but the community talking about asses has been there across numerous games of many different genres. Heck looking at the recent trailers, Caesar's demo trailer is very badass with exception for the last scene, and Burnice's is more derpy than anything else. If we're talking about their outfits, I mean they live a desert.

This, really. I feel like all the talks about the game's sexiness are a bit overblown (in general, not just specifically this video). The marketing will absolutely lean into the sexiness of some characters, Jane's videos have left zero ambiguity about this, but it's not like this is the only defining characteristic of said characters. In fact I think the story tends to do a good job giving them layers and subtleties even with what screentime they may have (even Jane's videos subtly highlights other aspects of her character, like when she blushes as she gets a compliment from the rat officer lady). And heck, Jane is a femme fatale, making her sexy, especially in a way she's fully in control of, is hardly outrageous, it still fits the movie themes of the game. Even Burnice mixes the biker aesthetic with that of a cheerleader. When you look at it that way, the sexiness doesn't have to be seen as a weird complement added on top, it can be a component of the game like any other. And if it jumps out that much to people, I feel like there's a point where it's just revealing of some prudishness, because it's really not that outrageous. It's also a little funny to me when only bare skin is seen as sexy, as if Miyabi isn't sporting her own more subtle sexiness with an outfit that highlights her own fairly big boob size, or overlooking her pantyhoses because she has a knee-high skirt. It's less overt, but it's there too. Some characters will be more sexy than others, and in different ways. I don't think it's so much a question of eras as ALG puts it, so much as it is simple diversity of characters that are meant to appeal to as many different tastes as possible. And, I dunno, I think the game is still pretty far away from anything too overt or bland with its sexiness, like a character only defined by that and nothing else, or whose sexiness makes no sense in-universe and takes too far.

As someone who grew up watching stuff like Ichigo 100% and Umisho, hearing people call Zenless Zone Zero coomer bait feels like a bit of an exaggeration. Anything that is anime or anime-adjacent is most likely going to have some level of fanservice, it kinda comes with the territory, but Zenless Zone Zero feels pretty tame compared to a lot of other franchises.
I mean, the game is always gonna have Gooner characters and gooner bait, but not to the extend of shit like Azur Lane or Nikke. So we are gonna have a very mixed cast, badass/Edgy characters, Gooner characters, Furries, Robots , you name it. So i think is not like the game is changing, is just the character rotation to appeal a wider audience without letting go that massive gooner profit market.

This video is a bit of an odd way to look at the characters, I feel like a more interesting topic to address could've been the upcoming dilemma of whether or not we will start seeing the beginning of limited 5* agent powercreep (and the associated implications with regards to endgame like Shiyu) with Miyabi. We know from the CBT and her general design that Miyabi is going to be an ice element character. And since I don't see them releasing a 4th limited anomaly unit in such a short timespan, she's almost certainly going to be an attacker type, which means she could be contending with Ellen for the ice damage role. Harumasa is also in an interesting position, he's unlikely to be our first 5* support given that S6 already has a support char in Soukaku. He's most likely going to be a 4* unit based on his design and how there are only 2 5* units/faction. I reckon he's going to be either a defense or stunner unit made to pair with Miyabi.
This is a weird video, because for the argument about there being a change to have any merit it should be noticable shift or change of plans but there isnt. The game launched with a trailer that showed all the groups and characters we would get and they have been following that plan withouth skipping a beat. The coolest Miyabi scene was in the launch of the game..... so where is the change? Then there are those characters teased on the video "Where miracle began", so those elements has always been there. There have always been cool and gooner aspects, sometimes at the same time because they arent mutualy exclusive. They know you have to add more to than jiggle physics to actually sell characters. For all the bouncieness that Caesar has, the attention she got double after a shoujo manga music video of all things.
this is annoying, ZZZ is mihoyo's first 16+ game, all their others were rated for younger audiences, the designs are more outrageous and defined because the playerbase is as well. its a more mature game, like it or not. "coomer bait", "gooner game", these characters each have so much more depth than what everyone seems to focus on. if we're going to attack mihoyo for their designs, why bother going 16+ with the rating? its a design choice and it sells because the characters are packed full with personality to them. if some of the scenes in trailers and so on are uncomfortable, like Jane's interrogation, and Ceasers shower, maybe instead of going red faced and accuse the game being gooner bait, see why they did those scenes in the first place. janes interrogation is a showcase of her wits, her tireless fight to stop crime and her masterful skills at impersonating a villain to achieve heroic goals. she sexualizes herself in order to retrieve information and stop crime at the source. We see this in her own chapter. Jane isnt "sexy" simple to be sexy, its for a reason. and Ceaser, her scene was important to showcase how deeply she cares about the Sons of Calydon. how free she is with them, and how much she trusts one another. this feeling is highlighted even more with her chapter, where her final moments wouldve been to scarifice everything, her dreams, her family, simply for doing the right thing. luckily ceaser was able to stay with us, but if it wasnt for that scene, we would have never known how far she considers the Sons of Calydon family. I understand that the game may be excessive at times, or seem like its purposely using sexualization as a selling point, but i beg people to look deeper than attractiveness and body type, if youre not comfortable judging somebody based on their looks in real life. why do the same to characters who obviously have so much more to their story then simply their attractiveness?
The thing is, these sorts of sexualized elements or carefree tendencies are only for the female characters for the most part. You’re not going to get shirtless Ben or have Anton be manly and without filter with his bros like that. That’s only for the gals. You don’t have Lycaon use his charm to get info, he’s just a gentleman. But remember we can focus on Grace’s feet or bust in promotion. All the men are moderately dressed with Anton barely giving his chest. Yet multiple women have tight and short shorts. Obviously there’s more to these characters than the sexualization, but it intentionally focuses on using gooner bait to get people to want these characters or play the game. Heck, it’s going to take us over four months just to even get a limited male in the game.

You could also just switch the sexes of Grace and Anton and nothing would change in the narrative, but they time and time again give these elements to the female ones. I don’t think it’s a particular movement towards or away from it, just different kinds of characters coming out. But I feel like this is just blatantly ignoring the angles they used for Zhu Yuan in her demo trailer, the tight shorts they have on Qingyi, Grace’s trailers starting with her bust as the central focus and both focused on the fetish for her feet, and that’s not even mentioning the exaggerated physics they have for characters such as Rina and Yanagi.

I think you are reading waaaaay too much into the sequence of near-term releases. A simpler explanation is that each faction has a design theme and the amount of sex appeal per design theme varies from faction to faction. We already have factions where sex appeal is downplayed, like Victoria Housekeeping. SoC has sex appeal played up to the max, consistent with their free-roaming, frontier-battling and the family-you-choose over the family-you-were-born-to nature. Section 6 will have sex appeal toned down, since they are an elite para-military combat group. I'd expect OBOLS Squad to be even more down-played. While Virtual Idols will go for cute-and-sexy. The variations are due to the release order of factions, more coincidence than plan.
I think my brother in gacha is mistaking them targeting demographics of coomer outside his coomer demographic as going away from coomer bait. When in fact, Lighter is just coomer bait for a certain group; and Yanagi is coomer bait for a particular refined sub-slice of coomers. It's coomers all the way down - and it's super cool anime fighters who are badass all the way down. It's both, and I love it.
I assume you don’t play other Hoyo games. There is no coomer bait, if you want coomer bait go look up Nikke. ZZZ in general has characters show more skin but it’s also the only game that takes place in a game where fashion is closer to ours in the real world as opposed to space China. The character designs are tame when compared to other non Hoyo gacha games, and the only coomer parts you are thinking of are what you’ve seen in your own mind. As a small creator you shouldn’t insult your viewers.
guys guys i really dont know whats the trouble with characters having uber sexy designs, in a gacha game of all genres. let them design the way they wanna design. characters being sexy have nothing to do with them having depth or good gameplay. have we not heard of bayonetta, 2B, or Chun LI? my doods we can have all of them. the beauty of zzz is that they have a really distinct and diverse directions for the faction/character designs. hence why s6 looks so unsexualized. i dont see why theres an idea that "theyre focusing on badassery as opposed to assery" is going around. Let them look cOomER bAiT af by all means please if thats what the devs want cuz at the end of the day, those who play the game know that their attractiveness is just a part of them and that they have interesting personalities and stories to tell too.

Anyone complaining about these being "coomer" characters. and "no matter where you have the camera you can still see her booty jiggle physics" - like YES, because that's how the character model is designed. Just like real life people if you had a 360' camera around them. if you don't understand than you've never had a hot GF before. Im a gym junkie, and when me and my girl go to gym, or out for errands, she wears gym wear for comfort and it's usually booty shorts or Yoga pants. No matter the angle you look at her, at least from my perspective, you will see her cheeks, and figure. Thats just how perspective works on attractive human forms. For refernce tho, she's really into Hoyo games as well, and ZZZ because of the more modern style. She like Zhu Yuan, Burnice, Jane Doe, and Nicole the most out of the girls, because of their styles and animations...(even tho her fav chars are Anton and Seth, because women are as thirsty as men are.. lol). Tho because she plays a lot of genshin, she like Zhongli and Diluc, and Arataki Itto. She played a lil Star Rail and says she likes the guys there more, but doesn't like the turn-based style so much.
The coomer bait could be going away? A few updates of more military themed characters = no more coomer characters? In what world is this even a possibility? You've seen how many views Burnice's music video got right? Sure these upcoming S6 characters are dressed more military/profesional but they are still sexualized. How does this lead one to believe that hoyo is moving forward in a less sexualized way afterwords? Each faction has a theme and they have been following it pretty nicely. I'm more than certain we will see some more spicy characters in the future.
this what baffles me about the point the video is trying to make. If Section 6 was a brand new faction that came out of nowhere then i could see the validity of the argument, but they have been there since the start.
It's most likely just going to be a mix of the 2. Some characters will be badass or sexualized or just a mix of the two. That's all. Miyabi seems to be more of a vergil inspired character. So she'll most likely appeal to those people. Everyone will get there fill. Its just a matter of which patch/update will be focus on what.
I'm sorry but I must respectfully disagree here. Like what are we, 12? I think Zenless devs know their audience and character design has been amazing so far. There is nothing wrong with sexy characters, if people do have a problem with it as adults, then I'm sorry to say but it's not a game problem. I think it's good that not all characters follow a single pattern, variety is good. I'll be honest, I think censorship and especially being oversensitive to the concerns of those with nothing better to do (gaming press in general) would destroy this game. It's already started with the removal of "TV mode'" and frankly I don't think the fights are varied/deep enough by themselves to maintain interest in the long term. I'm all for respecting the developer's vision and this is the version I want to play. As the old saying says: "In trying to please everyone, you end up annoying everyone and pleasing no one." Chasing the curve makes things bland and visionless. I do understand that probably nothing we say or do on this side of the pond would have much of an impact, it's all about the CN market.

Here's the thing, love it or hate it, ZZZ attracted people who are into those designs, they knew who they were targetting, and they knew who they were going to draw in, far before the game released. Those characters aren't going away. But if anyone genuinely thought that those were the *only* characters we were getting...I'd have to ask if they've never seen Hoyo's other games. While they made ZZZ to give fans of fan service a game of theirs to play, they can't just alienate their existing fans who are playing the game either. It's a balancing act that they're going to have to perform. While many would argue the opposite, I don't really think the characters before Jane were all that heavily sexualized. More than in Genshin? Probably, yeah (I have no idea about HSR, so I can give no comment there), but far less than Jane and Burnice. We're going to see more modestly designed characters for sure, I'd honestly argue we'll get more of them. But I don't think they can get rid of the fan service characters without losing a sizable chunk of the games fanbase; I don't see them scrapping them.

The one thing ZZZ has done right is to have the art style focus on the character theme. The sex appeal has always fitted, or at least in my opinion, the character to some large degree. Section 6 looks more toned down because they're supposed to look professional. There's still an element of sexiness because poly doesn't sell itself but the theme of the character isnt sacrificed for the sake of sales or at least they try preserve the nature of the character.
To be completely tbh, I do not see your vision on this. As others have said, the Section 6 cast have all been plainly visible for as long as the game has been public, so I don't think Hoyoverse is considering moving away from cheesecake, and for another thing, I don't think it could possibly work if they tried it. It doesn't matter how many sensibly dressed, reasonably proportioned characters they add in the future, new players will still have to start the story from the beginning. You start off playing as a girl in a miniskirt with visible thong straps, whose boss is decked out in full gyaru fashion, and they're joined by a petite catgirl in bicycle shorts who wiggles her butt in the air for her Ult. If our hypothetical cheesecake-hating new player is still with us, in Chapter 3 they'll be introduced to Victoria Housekeeping Company, where two thirds of their maids are highschool girls and the third has a bust to match Grace's, but hers are covered in leather straps that don't seem to serve a purpose beyond framing them. I'm sure you see my point by now: Zenless Zone Zero as it exists can't feasibly court a new audience, because anyone they manage to draw in will be filtered right back out by the existing content that was designed to appeal to the initial one.
to add to your point, courting really REALLY hard those who are filtered by the sexualization would make their existing audience feel unwanted and disrespected. So they would risk loosing what they have by chasing this unicorn of a bigger audience.
The crucial thing that makes or breaks a character being s3xualised is whether it's in character or not. Like for example, Qingyi from the neck down has the worst design in the game period. I don't even care that the artstyle makes her look like a tween, it's so unserious for the designers to expect people to suspend their disbelief and believe that this costume is somehow up to code in this universe. Soldier 11 is arguably even worse in this regard. Gaming industry has learned nothing from the Quiet from MGS fiasco lol.... On the flipside characters like Nicole, Jane Doe and Burnice harmonise with their character design because all three are the type of character to use their feminine wiles to disarm people, Nicole is a con-woman, Jane works as undercover intel and regularly cozies up to criminals, and Burnice is a bartender who just wants people to forget about their worries and for them to have a good old time. I think this lends itself well to Zenless because the girls are allowed to wear actual clothes that are cute and trendy instead of gooner tactivomit garb. I'm tired of Mihoyo's Disney-fied bullshit. If they're in the mood to be gratuitous because of the higher age rating, then they should go for it. At the end of the day, gameplay is all that matters to me. I tried Nikke out and no matter how "great" those character models are, I quit after a month cos the gameplay is nearly non-existent.
I'm inclined to disagree with a few points in this video. First of all, your whole idea that Hoyo will go in a different direction. Simply based on character release lineups is short sided, and isn't taking into account why Hoyo sexualizes ZZZ units to begin with. Also you underestimate them if you don't think they wouldn't find a way to sexualize Miyabi, stockings fetish anyone lol. Secondly they've already been focusing on gameplay with most limited S Ranks. So outside of seeing jiggling parts while roaming, the combat/kits have been well designed. Still enjoy your videos, just adding some food for thought... 😉👍

That's okay, tbh every gacha game needs to have a balancing act between gooner bait and cool/badass stuff to excel in the long run imo. I started playing the game because of how lively and fun the animations & characters' personalities are, as long as they keep that, nothing could stop me from continuing. That's not to say that the gooner bait isn't 12/10, but to me, they sort of just prop up an already amazing game

I love these hot characters as much as the next person, but absolutely, we don't need to be Nikke -- we don't need every character to be Burnice and Jane. A healthy balance is great. Sure, I'm here for the eye candy, but I'm also here because I love these characters for their actual **character** and I love the story and the mystery of what's going on with Belle and Wise and everything. And I'm sure we'll still continue to get more hot guys and girls too. Heck, we still don't know what Trigger looks like, but, looking again at Nikke, I wouldn't be surprised if she looked somewhat like Maxwell or Delta. EDIT: Actually, I just saw that we do have Trigger concept art, and I think she actually does look a bit like a mix between Delta and Maxwell lol

No offense but this video seems kind of pointless. This just seems like different characters with different personalities and astetetics. It's not like any of these characters just came out of nowhere and were completely shifting the game.
I think a good balance would be the target idea. Currently we are leaning more to the one side than the other when recent releases are considered, but I think it will probably introduce characters that appeal to many differnt subsets of players - thats probably a good thing aslong as they do not compromise the awesome gameplay beacuse of it.
I think the devs have actually done a pretty good job of mixing up the character types, even from the start. So it's pretty cool that they are mixing up the limited S ranks too. Hopefully they keep dropping something for everyone.

The most of the characters might be really sexy, but Miyabi just cuts right through my heart so easy. She is cool, elegant, beautiful, and yet she gives that cute social dummy impression.
I doubt its going away and i really hope it doesn't. First things first coomer, gooner porn addict and whatever else are all buzzwords used by annoying people to virtue signal on the internet. With that said, I love the "cool" character designs of ZZZ like lighter and miyabi as much as i like the sexy ones, and i really hope they don't deviate from either. I think one of the main things i really respect and enjoy about the game is how they managed to perfect both sides of over the top physics and angles, and just straight fire action and gameplay. Ideally i hope we continue to get both types of characters. Games are meant to be fun, having obviously sexualized characters as well as edgy characters are two things that are genuinely fun and don't actually bring any harm by itself like some people try to claim. Its just the devs doing what they think is fun like they are free to do, and people who agree with them will enjoy the game.

I think From the start, till Section 6 are just to attract people with characters and BIG personalities. After Section 6 banner, we probably get a Persona's quality type stories & lore on previous Hollow Incident. All I can say, sh*t about to get real after section 6 sequence. Probably a dark turn.
My guess for 1.3 is it will be a chapter 5 with for yanagi and we will get a character story with lighter and 1.3 will be a part 1 of a 2 part story and 1.4 will be the part 2 with miyabi and harumasa like chapter 5 and chapter 5.5
You seeing "modest" characters in the upcoming banner and thinking the game goes to a different direction is cute. Section 6 is dressed accordingly to lore, not to mention Miyabi was out since CBT1 so the faction was planed before the release of Sons of Calydon or other upcoming factions.
The last time a game tried to swerve hard away from 'Coomer bait' it was called Concord and they served into instant obscurity.... But jokes aside from a illustration / design standpoint 'Coomer bait' is simply catering to an audience. It is imo, in Hoyo's best interests to cater to as wide as an audience as possible but not fall into the trap of catering to everyone at the same time. The Coomers got what they wanted, cool. Now they aim to cater to someone else. That idea is not novel or shocking and nothing says they cant return to the 'coomer well' whenever they so please. My problem with section 6 is that they are a team for special operations in like military (i guess) group but they are just wearing shirts, skirts etc. Yanagi is basically just a secretary with a sword-spear so its not really interesting design imo

I'm not really the type to be amused by people commenting on how fine and sexy characters are. I can understand what they mean and appreciate it to an extent, but it makes me a little peeved when they won't talk about anything else.
Jane is a cool character, in personality, how she says things, possible story direction and possible backstory. One of my favorite things is coming up with theories or guessing about might happen, so it's a little sad when most of the people I find into ZZZ just wanna talk about Jane being thicctouille constantly.
I kind of think that the physics and assets were mainly to reel in an audience, before they chill a bit. Obviously, I don't think they'll stop completely, and I don't think I or most of the fans would want them to, but I do think that it'll be toned down a little.
To clarify, I'm not saying I don't want big booba characters with noice jiggle physics, it's just that I like it when that's not the only reason why other people want to pull for a character.

Its never really an important part of her character and the story does a good job at propping up how skilled she is and puts her in situations that force her to use skills that have nothing to do with her attractiveness. At the same time she doesn't try to pretend like she isn't sexy but her sex appeal never feels like it takes attention away from her other endearing character traits. Her sexiness is a PART of her character but its not HER character. Honestly, even tho it was a glorified ad campaign, her arc my have the strongest writing in the whole series narrative wise.

We are moving away from a "rough" care free biker gang to a more professional military like group. I'm not expecting that kind of style of character design from section 6 like i would from sons of Caledon. I think zzz is just giving characters alot of different players will enjoy. I'm sure they will circle back around to very style zzz deems marketable as long as the lights are on.

it really just comes down to the fact they gave all these characters and factions so much personality even in the current caste there is a balance between the serious and the silly personalities often complimenting each other.
There's a stark contrast between both factions. The sons of Caladon are free spirited, anything goes, biker gang. And Section 6 is an extremely disciplined, no nonsense, badass, military division. So yeah it's easy to see a gang of biker chicks dressing the way that they do, and the way that the military units dress, but I would honestly be surprised if the VERY next character after Section 6 isn't gooner bait (male or female).

I think its a quite reductive to call the previous cast of characters we have compared to the future to be "coomer bait". I mean obviously certain characters like Jane Doe are extra sexualized but the community talking about asses has been there across numerous games of many different genres.
Heck looking at the recent trailers, Caesar's demo trailer is very badass with exception for the last scene, and Burnice's is more derpy than anything else. If we're talking about their outfits, I mean they live a desert.

This, really. I feel like all the talks about the game's sexiness are a bit overblown (in general, not just specifically this video). The marketing will absolutely lean into the sexiness of some characters, Jane's videos have left zero ambiguity about this, but it's not like this is the only defining characteristic of said characters. In fact I think the story tends to do a good job giving them layers and subtleties even with what screentime they may have (even Jane's videos subtly highlights other aspects of her character, like when she blushes as she gets a compliment from the rat officer lady). And heck, Jane is a femme fatale, making her sexy, especially in a way she's fully in control of, is hardly outrageous, it still fits the movie themes of the game. Even Burnice mixes the biker aesthetic with that of a cheerleader. When you look at it that way, the sexiness doesn't have to be seen as a weird complement added on top, it can be a component of the game like any other. And if it jumps out that much to people, I feel like there's a point where it's just revealing of some prudishness, because it's really not that outrageous. It's also a little funny to me when only bare skin is seen as sexy, as if Miyabi isn't sporting her own more subtle sexiness with an outfit that highlights her own fairly big boob size, or overlooking her pantyhoses because she has a knee-high skirt. It's less overt, but it's there too. Some characters will be more sexy than others, and in different ways. I don't think it's so much a question of eras as ALG puts it, so much as it is simple diversity of characters that are meant to appeal to as many different tastes as possible. And, I dunno, I think the game is still pretty far away from anything too overt or bland with its sexiness, like a character only defined by that and nothing else, or whose sexiness makes no sense in-universe and takes too far.

As someone who grew up watching stuff like Ichigo 100% and Umisho, hearing people call Zenless Zone Zero coomer bait feels like a bit of an exaggeration. This video is a bit of an odd way to look at the characters, I feel like a more interesting topic to address could've been the upcoming dilemma of whether or not we will start seeing the beginning of limited 5* agent powercreep (and the associated implications with regards to endgame like Shiyu) with Miyabi.
We know from the CBT and her general design that Miyabi is going to be an ice element character. And since I don't see them releasing a 4th limited anomaly unit in such a short timespan, she's almost certainly going to be an attacker type, which means she could be contending with Ellen for the ice damage role.
Harumasa is also in an interesting position, he's unlikely to be our first 5* support given that S6 already has a support char in Soukaku. He's most likely going to be a 4* unit based on his design and how there are only 2 5* units/faction. I reckon he's going to be either a defense or stunner unit made to pair with Miyabi.
This is a weird video, because for the argument about there being a change to have any merit it should be noticable shift or change of plans but there isnt.
The game launched with a trailer that showed all the groups and characters we would get and they have been following that plan withouth skipping a beat. The coolest Miyabi scene was in the launch of the game..... so where is the change? Then there are those characters teased on the video "Where miracle began", so those elements has always been there.
There have always been cool and gooner aspects, sometimes at the same time because they arent mutualy exclusive. They know you have to add more to than jiggle physics to actually sell characters.
For all the bouncieness that Caesar has, the attention she got double after a shoujo manga music video of all things.
this is annoying, ZZZ is mihoyo's first 16+ game, all their others were rated for younger audiences, the designs are more outrageous and defined because the playerbase is as well. its a more mature game, like it or not. "coomer bait", "gooner game", these characters each have so much more depth than what everyone seems to focus on. if we're going to attack mihoyo for their designs, why bother going 16+ with the rating? its a design choice and it sells because the characters are packed full with personality to them.
if some of the scenes in trailers and so on are uncomfortable, like Jane's interrogation, and Ceasers shower, maybe instead of going red faced and accuse the game being gooner bait, see why they did those scenes in the first place.
janes interrogation is a showcase of her wits, her tireless fight to stop crime and her masterful skills at impersonating a villain to achieve heroic goals. she sexualizes herself in order to retrieve information and stop crime at the source. We see this in her own chapter. Jane isnt "sexy" simple to be sexy, its for a reason.
and Ceaser, her scene was important to showcase how deeply she cares about the Sons of Calydon. how free she is with them, and how much she trusts one another. this feeling is highlighted even more with her chapter, where her final moments wouldve been to scarifice everything, her dreams, her family, simply for doing the right thing. luckily ceaser was able to stay with us, but if it wasnt for that scene, we would have never known how far she considers the Sons of Calydon family.
I understand that the game may be excessive at times, or seem like its purposely using sexualization as a selling point, but i beg people to look deeper than attractiveness and body type, if youre not comfortable judging somebody based on their looks in real life. why do the same to characters who obviously have so much more to their story then simply their attractiveness?

The thing is, these sorts of sexualized elements or carefree tendencies are only for the female characters for the most part. You’re not going to get shirtless Ben or have Anton be manly and without filter with his bros like that. That’s only for the gals. You don’t have Lycaon use his charm to get info, he’s just a gentleman. But remember we can focus on Grace’s feet or bust in promotion. All the men are moderately dressed with Anton barely giving his chest. Yet multiple women have tight and short shorts. Obviously there’s more to these characters than the sexualization, but it intentionally focuses on using gooner bait to get people to want these characters or play the game. Heck, it’s going to take us over four months just to even get a limited male in the game.

They purposely gave the characters and personalities to the women so that they could be the ones to show off these fanservice elements as bait. Why does she need to have these personality traits to begin with? There are plenty of people who work day and night yet don’t have their feet out at the focus of the frame. So you saying that it has a character purpose doesn’t really combat the fact it’s still gooner bait. You can have these elements as well without focusing on them.
You could also just switch the sexes of Grace and Anton and nothing would change in the narrative, but they time and time again give these elements to the female ones. This isn’t even taking into account things like the focus on Zhu Yuan’s behind which serves 0 purpose at all or the physics on Jane and Burnice. Do the guys have physics? Why not? I'm saying that their style is part of the characters, no matter how outrageous it seems to be. koleda, president of belobog industries, wears half a uniform and a tank top. ben, the accountant, wields a giant flaming rocket cement pillar. anton has a personal relationship with a drill he names bro on his arm, grace is the lead engineer of the company and sacrifices all her modesty and daily necessities like food and sleep for the betterment of her machines and AI. when all of them are put next to eachother, they don't stand out nearly as much as people like to claim. does mihoyo take advantage of the world building and make sure to prioritize what the trailers show? absolutely. but to claim they are ONLY their feet, ONLY their chest, they ONLY exist for "gooner bait" are the real disingenuous claims.
i want to have this game stand out on its own, rather than being ridiculed and constantly compared to other similar titles for their designs. the game is rated for more mature audiences, even those 16+, and it clearly shows. if people took a couple seconds to look beyond their "assets" i think they'd learn to appreciate the characters more.

I don’t think it’s a particular movement towards or away from it, just different kinds of characters coming out. But I feel like this is just blatantly ignoring the angles they used for Zhu Yuan in her demo trailer, the tight shorts they have on Qingyi, Grace’s trailers starting with her bust as the central focus and both focused on the fetish for her feet, and that’s not even mentioning the exaggerated physics they have for characters such as Rina and Yanagi.

I think you are reading waaaaay too much into the sequence of near-term releases. A simpler explanation is that each faction has a design theme and the amount of sex appeal per design theme varies from faction to faction. We already have factions where sex appeal is downplayed, like Victoria Housekeeping. SoC has sex appeal played up to the max, consistent with their free-roaming, frontier-battling and the family-you-choose over the family-you-were-born-to nature. Section 6 will have sex appeal toned down, since they are an elite para-military combat group. I'd expect OBOLS Squad to be even more down-played. While Virtual Idols will go for cute-and-sexy. The variations are due to the release order of factions, more coincidence than plan.

ZZZ in general has characters show more skin but it’s also the only game that takes place in a game where fashion is closer to ours in the real world as opposed to space China. The character designs are tame when compared to other non Hoyo gacha games, and the only coomer parts you are thinking of are what you’ve seen in your own mind. As a small creator you shouldn’t insult your viewers.
guys guys i really dont know whats the trouble with characters having uber sexy designs, in a gacha game of all genres. let them design the way they wanna design. characters being sexy have nothing to do with them having depth or good gameplay. have we not heard of bayonetta, 2B, or Chun LI? my doods we can have all of them. the beauty of zzz is that they have a really distinct and diverse directions for the faction/character designs. hence why s6 looks so unsexualized.

It's most likely just going to be a mix of the 2. Some characters will be badass or sexualized or just a mix of the two. That's all. Miyabi seems to be more of a vergil inspired character. So she'll most likely appeal to those people. Everyone will get there fill. Its just a matter of which patch/update will be focus on what.
I'm sorry but I must respectfully disagree here. Like what are we, 12? I think Zenless devs know their audience and character design has been amazing so far. There is nothing wrong with sexy characters, if people do have a problem with it as adults, then I'm sorry to say but it's not a game problem. I think it's good that not all characters follow a single pattern, variety is good. I'll be honest, I think censorship and especially being oversensitive to the concerns of those with nothing better to do (gaming press in general) would destroy this game. It's already started with the removal of "TV mode'" and frankly I don't think the fights are varied/deep enough by themselves to maintain interest in the long term. I'm all for respecting the developer's vision and this is the version I want to play. As the old saying says: "In trying to please everyone, you end up annoying everyone and pleasing no one." Chasing the curve makes things bland and visionless. I do understand that probably nothing we say or do on this side of the pond would have much of an impact, it's all about the CN market.

I mean, looking at your pinned comment, you clarify that you didn't mean they were going away forever, but the video definitely gives off that impression. Here's the thing, love it or hate it, ZZZ attracted people who are into those designs, they knew who they were targetting, and they knew who they were going to draw in, far before the game released. Those characters aren't going away. But if anyone genuinely thought that those were the *only* characters we were getting...I'd have to ask if they've never seen Hoyo's other games. While they made ZZZ to give fans of fan service a game of theirs to play, they can't just alienate their existing fans who are playing the game either. It's a balancing act that they're going to have to perform. While many would argue the opposite, I don't really think the characters before Jane were all that heavily sexualized. More than in Genshin? Probably, yeah (I have no idea about HSR, so I can give no comment there), but far less than Jane and Burnice. We're going to see more modestly designed characters for sure, I'd honestly argue we'll get more of them. But I don't think they can get rid of the fan service characters without losing a sizable chunk of the games fanbase; I don't see them scrapping them.

The one thing ZZZ has done right is to have the art style focus on the character theme. The sex appeal has always fitted, or at least in my opinion, the character to some large degree. Section 6 looks more toned down because they're supposed to look professional. There's still an element of sexiness because poly doesn't sell itself but the theme of the character isnt sacrificed for the sake of sales or at least they try preserve the nature of the character.

To be completely tbh, I do not see your vision on this. As others have said, the Section 6 cast have all been plainly visible for as long as the game has been public, so I don't think Hoyoverse is considering moving away from cheesecake, and for another thing, I don't think it could possibly work if they tried it. It doesn't matter how many sensibly dressed, reasonably proportioned characters they add in the future, new players will still have to start the story from the beginning.
You start off playing as a girl in a miniskirt with visible thong straps, whose boss is decked out in full gyaru fashion, and they're joined by a petite catgirl in bicycle shorts who wiggles her butt in the air for her Ult.
Get through that, and Chapter 2 introduces you to Grace, with her giant pudding boobs and her Agent Story that contrives a reason to get her out of her boots.
Making it through that takes you to the intermission, where you'll meet two female officers with prominent posteriors, and the one with more skin exposed is awfully young-looking...
If our hypothetical cheesecake-hating new player is still with us, in Chapter 3 they'll be introduced to Victoria Housekeeping Company, where two thirds of their maids are highschool girls and the third has a bust to match Grace's, but hers are covered in leather straps that don't seem to serve a purpose beyond framing them.
I'm sure you see my point by now: Zenless Zone Zero as it exists can't feasibly court a new audience, because anyone they manage to draw in will be filtered right back out by the existing content that was designed to appeal to the initial one.
to add to your point, courting really REALLY hard those who are filtered by the sexualization would make their existing audience feel unwanted and disrespected. So they would risk loosing what they have by chasing this unicorn of a bigger audience.

Being more story-focused and sexualization aren't really mutually exclusive honestly, Nikke is a big example.
The crucial thing that makes or breaks a character being s3xualised is whether it's in character or not. Like for example, Qingyi from the neck down has the worst design in the game period. I don't even care that the artstyle makes her look like a tween, it's so unserious for the designers to expect people to suspend their disbelief and believe that this costume is somehow up to code in this universe. Soldier 11 is arguably even worse in this regard. Gaming industry has learned nothing from the Quiet from MGS fiasco lol.... On the flipside characters like Nicole, Jane Doe and Burnice harmonise with their character design because all three are the type of character to use their feminine wiles to disarm people, Nicole is a con-woman, Jane works as undercover intel and regularly cozies up to criminals, and Burnice is a bartender who just wants people to forget about their worries and for them to have a good old time. I think this lends itself well to Zenless because the girls are allowed to wear actual clothes that are cute and trendy instead of gooner tactivomit garb.

I'm tired of Mihoyo's Disney-fied bullshit. If they're in the mood to be gratuitous because of the higher age rating, then they should go for it. At the end of the day, gameplay is all that matters to me. I tried Nikke out and no matter how "great" those character models are, I quit after a month cos the gameplay is nearly non-existent.

I'm inclined to disagree with a few points in this video. First of all, your whole idea that Hoyo will go in a different direction. Simply based on character release lineups is short sided, and isn't taking into account why Hoyo sexualizes ZZZ units to begin with. Also you underestimate them if you don't think they wouldn't find a way to sexualize Miyabi, stockings fetish anyone lol. Secondly they've already been focusing on gameplay with most limited S Ranks. So outside of seeing jiggling parts while roaming, the combat/kits have been well designed. Still enjoy your videos, just adding some food for thought... 😉👍

That's okay, tbh every gacha game needs to have a balancing act between gooner bait and cool/badass stuff to excel in the long run imo. I started playing the game because of how lively and fun the animations & characters' personalities are, as long as they keep that, nothing could stop me from continuing. That's not to say that the gooner bait isn't 12/10, but to me, they sort of just prop up an already amazing game

I love these hot characters as much as the next person, but absolutely, we don't need to be Nikke -- we don't need every character to be Burnice and Jane. A healthy balance is great. Sure, I'm here for the eye candy, but I'm also here because I love these characters for their actual **character** and I love the story and the mystery of what's going on with Belle and Wise and everything. And I'm sure we'll still continue to get more hot guys and girls too. Heck, we still don't know what Trigger looks like, but, looking again at Nikke, I wouldn't be surprised if she looked somewhat like Maxwell or Delta.

No offense but this video seems kind of pointless. This just seems like different characters with different personalities and astetetics. It's not like any of these characters just came out of nowhere and were completely shifting the game.
I think a good balance would be the target idea. Currently we are leaning more to the one side than the other when recent releases are considered, but I think it will probably introduce characters that appeal to many differnt subsets of players - thats probably a good thing aslong as they do not compromise the awesome gameplay beacuse of it.

I think the devs have actually done a pretty good job of mixing up the character types, even from the start. So it's pretty cool that they are mixing up the limited S ranks too. Hopefully they keep dropping something for everyone.

Fortunately unfortunately there’s at least two patches worth of idols that i will be happily skipping at some point. Fortunately because i can save up polys. Unfortunately because i still have to suffer for two patches with characters before something remotely interesting shows up.
One faction you may have looked is Obel Squad, Soldier 11's faction. Im sure that they will boost her relative power level, but if I was Hoyo Id be in a hurry to push them out asap before she is powercrept to graveyard tier

The most of the characters might be really sexy, but Miyabi just cuts right through my heart so easy. She is cool, elegant, beautiful, and yet she gives that cute social dummy impression.

I love the "cool" character designs of ZZZ like lighter and miyabi as much as i like the sexy ones, and i really hope they don't deviate from either. I think one of the main things i really respect and enjoy about the game is how they managed to perfect both sides of over the top physics and angles, and just straight fire action and gameplay. Ideally i hope we continue to get both types of characters. Games are meant to be fun, having obviously sexualized characters as well as edgy characters are two things that are genuinely fun and don't actually bring any harm by itself like some people try to claim. Its just the devs doing what they think is fun like they are free to do, and people who agree with them will enjoy the game.

After Section 6 banner, we probably get a Persona's quality type stories & lore on previous Hollow Incident. All I can say, sh*t about to get real after section 6 sequence. Probably a dark turn.
My guess for 1.3 is it will be a chapter 5 with for yanagi and we will get a character story with lighter and 1.3 will be a part 1 of a 2 part story and 1.4 will be the part 2 with miyabi and harumasa like chapter 5 and chapter 5.5

You seeing "modest" characters in the upcoming banner and thinking the game goes to a different direction is cute. Section 6 is dressed accordingly to lore, not to mention Miyabi was out since CBT1 so the faction was planed before the release of Sons of Calydon or other upcoming factions.

The last time a game tried to swerve hard away from 'Coomer bait' it was called Concord and they served into instant obscurity.... It is imo, in Hoyo's best interests to cater to as wide as an audience as possible but not fall into the trap of catering to everyone at the same time. The Coomers got what they wanted, cool. My problem with section 6 is that they are a team for special operations in like military (i guess) group but they are just wearing shirts, skirts etc. Yanagi is basically just a secretary with a sword-spear so its not really interesting design imo
