It amazes me how Hoyo was able to keep Natlan in this veil of mystery in every sense, even leaks are scarce compared to the other regions. I'm not sure if they FINALLY learned how to do it or if they've always known but didn't care that much until Natlan for some reason. Honestly, I hope this is not just a Natlan thing, I hope it's a "from now on" thing.

On the topic of sports tournaments, I'm from New Zealand. Our country is very deeply (unhealthily) obsessed with rugby. Now back when it was warring Māori tribes, before and after colonisation, Māori warriors would perform a ritualistic dance called the "haka". We don't have wars any more here (touch wood, world is going to shit after all) but now whenever we play sports, our sports teams do the haka, as a show of respect...and intimidation. There's a lot of videos showing it, especially in rugby, some countries have even demanded that we stop doing it because it makes their players intimidated. I don't really blame them 😅 Our rugby teams are known for being the best in the world and we're talking 15 enormous guys performing a war dance, yelling, showing the whites of their eyes. It's pretty full on. Every New Zealand kid learns how to do the haka. You should take a look because I think it adds more weight to the "sports = war" argument, which I absolutely agree with. Plus it's just really cool to watch.
Also Māori have a Māui legend where he tamed the sun with his brothers. The sun would fly too fast across the sky. So they laid a net and basically beat the sun up until it promised to go slower 😅 Battered and bruised, the sun then proceeded to move much slower across the sky. I was reminded of that when you mentioned the Native American myth. I don't know many Native American myths, so I was surprised that the idea that the sun sucked and needed to be hunted down is vaguely similar to the Māui myth. I'm interested in seeing if there's more overlaps with Native American myths and Māori myths. I've heard of the Mahuika myth, of course. It would be interesting if Capitano is the Hand constellation, because of Mahuika's association with fingers and hands. Māui tricks her into giving her fingernails, which was the source of fire. And her children are named after the five fingers of the hand in different regional dialects. If Capitano is the Hand, then there's a possibility that he's deeply connected to Mavuika in some way

Scaramouche previous "names" been titles instead of names is interesting beacause Ahau K'uhul (the alebrije-like lizard with Kinich) is also not a name but a Maya title, that could be translated to "One who connects humanity with the gods" 🧐
Also, some little corrections. Kinich is not Aztec its Maya. And also, its preferable to use the name Mexica instead of Aztec. There's many reasons to it, but in short, Mexica is how they called themselves, and Aztec refers to a very specific time period of Mexica origin mythos.

I 100% agree on the idea of using the ball game or competition to harvest will. I think it's like harvesting emotions to ignite a fire, both physically and metaphorically. This is why Mavuika says that no spark will go unnoticed.

    • @clemente3966
      @clemente3966 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

(Sorry about that essay of a reply, but your wording made the mind gears turn a lot, and I thought you could go further into your idea so I tried to do it myself, I jope it's not bothering you or anything)
I mean, at least since Inazuma, the person or people in authority harvested a different concept each time.
Inazuma had Raiden taking the Visions and their holders lost, from what I remember of it, perseverance.
Sumeru had the Sages harvesting knowledge and dreams. Though it didn't result in a somewhat decrease of kindness in Sumeru City, so what I'm imagining now loses in credibility, I can't not admit it. Though one could say that every person who tried to supervise the Akasha did so without kindness, so idk.
Focalors harvested the people's faith in justice, and people at trials defend the integrity of either their defense or their accusations, and so their integrity to society. And once the waters around the Fortress washed the guilty's transgressions, they gain new integrity in the pocket society of the Fortress.
So Natlan and Mavuika's will harvest (will being akin to pure determination, determination that could be applied to different situation and become perseverance, kindness, integrity, patience and so on, like the light of flames could be decomposed into multiple lights and colors) wouldn't be to be considered like an idea, but already like a fact.
Also, did I not so discreetly use some Undertale symbolism? Yes, I did, and I know it's nowhere near a 1:1 situation, because Geo could fit both yellow and orange volor-wise, and cyan has 2 candidates.
But if we try to guess what is going to happen in Sneznahya through that lens, I'm already betting that the Tsaritsa will also be harvesting some concept out of her people. To be exact, their will to wait for her plans to come to fruition. Patience to be exact. Which would fit with how the Harbringers behaved:
Signora didn't push the Knights of Favonius to the point of acting, only to give a sense of urgency, to make the Archon go out of hiding just long enough.
Childe made a very long operation of making those entry paper things to wake Osial when he could have rushed to the Exuvia directly.
Scaramouche didn't directly confront the Shogun but instead fueled the war to make her ressources be spent.
Dottore is all about mind games, of course he waited.
Arlecchino is the exception, because she wouldn't hesitate to confront and potentially kill the Tsaritsa, which, based.
And if Ashikai is right, then Capitano is waiting for the time the Gnosis would recognize him as worthy.
And now that I think about it, the idea of harvesting determination to fuel the fire could be transcribed for Cryo as waiting could be seen as being still in place, like frozen in ice, conserved to be revitalized later. Maybe the Tsaritsa is trapped somewhere (maybe in he rown ice thzt she could not control the strength of, like Elsa in Frozen), but can still communicate with others, and the goal of assembling the Gnoses would be to help freeing her, on top of reviving Nibelung.

  • @Foxtronaute
    @Foxtronaute 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +169

    Really good video as always!
Also I would like to point out that Natlanians haven't left their nation in a very long time, and at a certain point in time Polynesians also stopped traveling for an unknown reason (it was the whole plot behind Moana, which comes from a real event).
During Simulanka the protagonists keep trying to find a way to leave this world, and the solution was "you could do it all along, who told you you couldn't ?", there's also a quest about a NPC being afraid of leaving, because traveling will eventually makes you evolve and you will change, and change is always scary.
This concept of growing and learning through traveling always has been a recurrent theme in Genshin, as the MC is literally called "The Traveler", and at the end of the Natlan's chapter Natlanians might start traveling again, which will lead to a big change for its inhabitant somehow.

Hear me out... I had a thought about the travelers sibling and "names". Since none of the characters know our name in game, our story is not yet defined. Thats how we as the player, have the ability to write our own story. We even have the repetitive pattern with our sibling, them having helped people all around Teyvat before us. The main difference however. Dain knows our sibling's name, and probably many others as well. Their fate it already complete, thats how their story is in the Irminsul tree. Whats also interesting is, we're never truly given names in the story either, but roles as you mentioned. Captian of Swordfish 2, The first Sage of Buer, "Sage" and "Captian". What is also strange is how our character choses to hide their true identity (maybe subconsciously), using the name we input at the start, when picking the character.

Monstadt Has Venti explaining the reason he doesn't get involved often in the affairs of humans except to soothe them
Liyue has Morax abdictating rulership to the people as he feels it's their time to decide their own fate.
Inazuma has oppression by the Archons puppet removed giving ambition back to the people and helping Ei connect with them.
Sumeru is about re connecting the people back to Buer/Nahida as she in turn learns about and reconnects with them.

also with names as roles, i immediately thought of how the traveler twins (whichever the player is playing as) pick a new name when they arrive on Teyvat. But it's almost like a title because it's not their real name, they're still Aether and Lumine when they speak to each other. It could just be for ease of voice acting but it felt like a deliberate way they've separated their "role" in Teyvat from their actual name

I wonder how they would voice act any random name a player invents at the beginning of the game. You could even make up a string of letters unpronouncable for humans.. so they had to come up with an idea to bypass this problem by just calling them "Traveler".. and rendering the chosen names irrelevant to the fate-plot as lowkey hinted in the post-Simulanka-Kaveh-quest.

To be fair, most players forget Genshin is one of the narratives within the Honkaiverse, which holds repeating concepts; dreams, samsara, memories etc. Based on Simulanka story, it's assumed Genshin's narratives parallel more towards Honkai part 1.5 and 2, and Star Rail Penacony arc.

  • @sfoanna
    @sfoanna 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +30

If the linkage between anemo and pyro and their connection to death and rebirth come to pass then that suggests the narrative could form a sort of closed circle between Mondstadt and Natlan before heading into the story’s climax. Which kind of matches the tone of the latest Dain quest which felt like both an end and a new beginning suggesting the tension is really going to start to ramp up.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mondstadt gets a map extension there. Though, to say if the continent is the only one and that it circles back on itself around the planet and that Natlan and Mondstadt are geographically directly connected would be a stretch imo. But yeah, I bet too that there will be a connection.

there's one minor thing that i think is relevant that wasn't mentioned here. when celestia/the heavenly principles arrived to teyvat, there were only dragons, no humans. one of the reasons for starting the war against the dragon sovereigns then was because HP wanted to turn teyvat into a world for humans. this makes me think that the world of the dragon sovereigns was incompatible with human life. this parallels how mini durin's existence was incompatible with life in simulanka, not just because of his size but because he converted everything he touched into base materials--base elements, one might say. the end result in simulanka is that in order for dragons to coexist with others, they need to alter their forms to become compatible with human life--which ALSO parallels everything neuvillette says about how much time he has spent understanding humans.
so maybe, if the dragon soverigns are to return and to assist in overthrowing celestia, they would need to do so in a way that doesn't destroy all the human life around them. the ending goal and message of the main story quest in simulanka was one of coexistence--so what if the final goal of the abyss twin, the tsaritsa, and potentially mavuika as well, is to resurrect the dragon sovereigns along the same lines as neuvillette and mini durin--granting them bodies that would be able to thrive in the current teyvat without exterminating all of humanity. then humanity, the dragons and maybe the archons as well could take on celestia.

There is a different way in which I noticed things and I didn't know any American myths to confirm them but this was all I learnt from the main quest of simulanka:
    1. Simulanka technically should mean "Simulation of an Lanka" where Lanka means islands.
Reminds me of our teapot islands and Teyvat itself in general. So we are living in a simulation/dream of the heavenly principles/Sustainer? Figures out why we don't see the heavenly principles anywhere, maybe because they are sleeping, yk the deathly sleep you see in Aurora. And how do you forge your fate out of what the Sustainer has blessed you with? Only by fighting her tooth and nail to death. Which also foreshadows the Pyro Archon's greatest sacrifice waiting up ahead, to forge into a weapon most probably to cut through the simulation/fake sky.
    2. There was a forest, a city and a mine impacted by the dragon.
Where it could be foreshadowing the awakening of Durin as suspected by Albedo in the end of it and having him trip over Sumeru, Fontaine all the way to Natlan. We still have a scene where the doctor was in front of a burning tree remember? That's not over yet.
    3. Durin is most likely brought back to life by the Abyss loom of fate.
    4. Natlan characters are fighting alongside their dragons companions. This time, after 500 years, it's different. No primodial one will fight for humans against his dragons but the dragons and the humans will fight for their own fates.
It's like the soldiers with different opinions deciding to choose their own fate over the protection the goddess had offered them. Also explains why Xbalanque introduced Neuvi in a very...war intended tone.
    5. Navia's Spina will probably be the one guarding Fontaine with the Marechaussee phantom and Fortress if Neuvillette has to fight in the war/tournament.
    6. The wanderer and the traveller may be the weapon Nahida prepared to defend her own people in case war because you know that she has to keep the irminsul safe no matter what, she is not physically capable of fighting a war either yet.
    7. The broken sea looks like we'll finally get a glimpse of current state of khandriah.
    8. I think we will witness a godly change in paimon this time.
I believe she is the moon that bought a traveller back to his friends. In this case, would be dainslef who lost his dear friend, the Abyss twin.
That was way too many things to talk about 😂 but it hope it helps our delusions tho

Giving a name is a big trope in some anime, especially in the Isekai genres like That One Time I Was Reincarnated as a Slime and Tsuki Michi. Creatures (non-humans or demi-humans) that are given a name by the ruler/person in power gain a lot power and even tend to evolve or level up. It also binds them to the ruler/person in power forever as a type of servant or attendant.

that’s interesting… in danish we use the word “ånd” (kinda pronounced like the “un” in words like “understand” or “under”). “At ånde”, means to breathe and “en ånd” means “a spirit/ghost”. Something to note is that “at ånde” usually refers to letting out a breath rather than breathing in air. I think that might be why we call a ghost/spirit an “ånd”. It describes a spirit that left with someone’s very last breathing out. We believe that’s how the soul leaves the body.
btw “at ånde (to breathe out)” and “en ånd (a spirit)” is the same word in both instances, one is just used as a verb and one as a noun

Also, I find it curious that the Pyro Hypostasis is codenamed "Ayin", which is the Hebrew letter meaning "eyes" specifically, and Mavuika pointedly tells the viewer to close their eyes and feel.
I find it especially interesting given that one time, we are told that only what we've seen is true (Inversion of Genesis), then we observe how a future as seen by gods can be staged for an unexpected finale (Fontaine Archon Quest); and then in Simulanka when we rewind time in Text's Coda quest and observe the past, we're actually witnessing a scene with missing parts and only thanks to the intuition of our companion and some cross-examination we're able to figure out what _really_ happened.

i 100% agree with your examination of simulanka but i got an entirely different sort of prediction out of its storyline - namely the parts about how simulanka's fate is meant to be a replicated microcosm of the rest of teyvat at large. a dragon knocking stars (specifically stars that are physical objects, hanging in the sky) out of the sky made me wonder what might happen if something similar happened in teyvat. a dragon knocking people's irminsul fruit constellations out of the sky, either on purpose or on accident, in order to attempt to forestall or defy their fates. i think its also really interesting how people's fates in metropole were predetermined by the godess of fate, especially about how they were free to live their lives how they chose but certain events were unchangable and if they got "off track", that they were forced back in line or put in stasis until their fate could be fixed by an external power. theres also the part about how we as outsiders are able to "turn off" this protection of fate, and that then this protective measure that had become a hindrance was finally released, and people were at last free to live their lives how they chose
looking at this part especially, through a lens of it being a mini-teyvat, it gets really interesting - i think that simulanka is teasing not just the future of natlan, but possibly beyond. im betting that something happening either in natlan or in the future will result in the "bubble" around teyvat being burst, so to speak, and that the fate laid out by peoples constellations and even irminsul itself being possibly no longer needed, namely through the actions of the traveler due to their ability to see "outside the story" so to speak
long story short i think that simulanka is teasing the death of predestination and fate in teyvat at the traveler's hands, though theres probably plenty of additional details i cant remember atm

@Ashikai I've been catching up on the archon quests and something from bedtime stories caught my attention. When we meet the twin in Caribert's consciousness they refer to our MC by their canonical name (Lumine and Aether respectively). Our MC also mentions a small line about how their twin is the only one in this world who calls them by that canonical name. Putting aside basic gameplay set up and mechanics, why is it that despite what we set as our MC's name as, the twin does not call our MC by the name we set but everyone else in the world refers to our MC by the given name or "traveler"?

WAIT so was the adventurer from Venti's quest's soul trapped because he died in the Mare Javari, or was that just a red herring and the real reason was because Hans was still living out his role and with his name? And that's why Venti asks him to "hand over his friend's spirit" to free him?

The fact that mahuvika's va's husband is zhongli's va who uses a meteor in the burst. And that ending sequence mentioning about mahuvika being married to the god of comet is so perfect.

There is something else about Simulanka who bothered me, being that, in the Kirara wold quest, you had to go to Albizzi's house to....I don't remember
And he said something about some of Cappet's henchmen there, being that they drank a potion making them stronger, but also make people lack empathy. Which kinda remind me of 2 things
    1. Scaramouche in his Evangelion, who was a huge power boost to it, and actually acting more like a god than any other time
    2. Childe in his FL form, due to the fact that not only it's literally named "Demon King Armament", but he also act pretty mighty and slightly...odd in this form (listen to his voiceline)
So, I wonder if gaining a power boost always need to come at a price

In the new trailer Mavuika told Cap that his motive to get the gnosis seems to be more than the Tsaritsa's plan. So you may be right about him resurrecting his twin brother.

Your name is power. You can allow yourself to be controlled by others when they use it, if you allow it.
You can choose a name and your fate tied to the name you choose. .
Or, you name is just a word. People have no power over you by use it is Your destiny is yours to forge no matter the name you have been given or name you have chosen.
