  • Do you want to hit clean crisp volleys consistently?
    In this video OTI Instructor Nadim Naser demonstrates in detail the most important aspects of great volley technique.
    The video was taken during the first Ultimate OTI Experience in Costa Rica where a small group of 6 students get to work with Nadim and Gregg le Sueur for one week.
    In this part Nadim lays the foundation on volley technique for the group before going into detailed personalized technical corrections.

    This might be the best volley instruction I've ever seen online. You agree exactly in every detail to my method... even using the exact words and phases. "V" is for VOLLEY is my catch phrase to discribe the angle of the racquet handle to forearm, the movement of the footwork to intercept the ball...move within the "V" on the floor. "V" is for VOLLEY, VICTORY, and VANQUISH. Our ready position at net is "ROBOT NINJA" to replicate the Samurai Style En Garde position. Elbows 80 % srraight. Thanks for understanding and explaining such a high level of Volley technique.

    Nadim is a well-spoken coach who simplifies concepts, thus making them EASY to understand (and execute, actually).

      Anyway, I really enjoyed how you broke things down technically yet you kept it simple. That is a very difficult task, to discuss technique without getting bogged down in wordiness. I look forward to one day being at one of your clinics.

    I like your elbows forward advice. Some people don’t bend forward at the waist, so it’s uncomfortable and they’ll stop doing it.
    Also, I believe if you lay your wrist back (point strings at the ball) while unit turning, you are ready a tad sooner. That means more ball control.

    SO - a) keep the plane constant before, at and post contact b) light grip tension c) move diagonally to the ball

    At the club level the vast majority of volleys come directly at you, usually right towards your chest or face. Almost never do you get a volley where you can simply turn and hit it. So for the lower level players like me, what we need is a lesson on how to get out of the way and be effective against balls hit right at your center or face.

      William Jeffreys To volley a ball towards your body or face, if you’re right handed and with the racquet out front, take one small “side step” to the right and turn the racquet face to meet the ball. That’s it! Practice against a wall if you want to be proficient.

      If the ball is at your body you need to play a backhand volley like you’re protecting yourself from the ball.

    Your videos are transformational!
    Can you please do a video on how to set up as a ball is coming towards you and how to time it appropriately?
    I’m jamming because I’m waiting to long on a lot of balls.
    How do I set up the ‘batters box’ as balls are coming at me so I can hit it proper off the ground with my arm extended correctly as demonstrated in other videos! I’d really appreciate it I can’t wait to come and take a live lesson with you in the future!
    vielen Dank

      Eric Sczuka thanks for your comment. Can you clarify for me where you are located on the court when you experience getting jammed? If you have a video you can send us of your situation, that would be best. Let me know. Looking forward to welcoming you on court in the future. Cheers

      Nadim Naser baseline when balls are coming I am having trouble picking them up so that I begin my uni turn and come forward and extend appropriately.
      Even with balls that flat with not much too spin it seems like I’m not getting set up quick enough I’m contacting the ball late and high. Not in front and to the right as you have shown. I’ll send video.
      I’d like to get better at hitting it extended right off the ground in the strike zone more.
      I do about 50% of time and it shows. But sometimes I am really late and this forces me to jam and hit high.
      Again, mostly from the baseline.
      Dank
      Eric 🤙🏻

    Hi Coach Nadim Naser, how to handle a volley at net if a heavy ball hit straight at you?

  • @randallchinn1850
    @randallchinn1850 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great tips and great instructions, but I do have a question. You spent 15 minutes explaining the volley to your students, but they didn't hit a single ball during that time. So in your clinics, when do the students actually get to put the instructions in to use?

    • @NadimNaser
      @NadimNaser 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Randall Chinn thanks for your comment. Hats a fair question. This session was a scheduled part of the clinic and in-between “topics to cover”. Every clinic has time set aside for instructional sessions like this where players get to “understand, shadow swing, ask questions and take notes” about the concepts first. The regular approach of explaining all this while they have to hit balls does not work anywhere near as well in my opinion. Immediately following this instructional session we went out on court to apply these concepts.

    • @randallchinn1850
      @randallchinn1850 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the explanation. I'm seriously thinking of participating in one of your clinics when you offer one close to me. I just wanted to get a feel of how the clinics are run.

      Randall Chinn this clinic was a 5-day clinic in Costa Rica. Most other clinics are 1 or 2-day. Where are you located? Would be nice to meet and work together in person

    Top of the racket into the sky,for more power. Like Roger Federer. It's better than V .

      Skyward? I don’t think so. Not at contact. Also, power is a secondary goal.
