Man, I couldn't agree more on what you brought up about the characters being really quirky to the point where while they do *still* have some of their characteristics from the first chapter of the game, they really don't hit you like they used to, especially Susie who not gonna lie, feels kind of out of character I also agree that Noelle is kind of boring and didn't really care for her but it's heavily implied that she will be a main part of the story, so I believe that this was just her introduction to the plot, and we'll get some more juicy plot with her later on I wouldn't call it a dissapointment or mid though; the comedy, the music, the gameplay, (and to some degree, the characters) are interesting, and the story only leaves you wanting more. It's basiclly what you said at the end of the video - morbid curiosity to see what happens next It's like roughly below Chapter 1 for me, like at least a 7.5
Obviously this isn't a hate comment. Nor is this a "your opinion is different then mine so you're wrong!" I think a few of the gripes with the game are a result of a genuine misreading of what's happening. The biggest I'd say is kris being their own character. That's just....wrong LMAO There's tons of characterisation, in hometown pretty much everyone has a story of kris being weird. And kris has a ton of input on how they deliver the choices we make. For example, a lot of times if an kris takes issue with what we make them say, they'll deliver it in a strained way. Or mocking, or annoyed. Like when you say you'll join berdly. Or that you're fine after the Spamton NEO fight. Kris has their own opinions, and thoughts, meaning they are indeed a seperate character. In regards to your statements on the weird route/snowgrave this is actually going to be a majority of the comment. The key issue is that deltarune ISN'T about choice. It's about control. Deltarune is about escapism vs reality. The dark worlds being an allegory for fiction, and light world being reality. And Susie's statement of her choices not mattering was directed at her. Now, Obviously I'm not omnipotent and can predict where toby is going with the story, but I can say this. Everytime they go to the dark worlds they get better as people. And this blends nicely with noelle. Noelle suffers from learned helplessness. Can you blame her? Her mom isn't the best from what we understand, we don't know what's up with dess. And her dad is in the hospital. She has very little control over her life. And as such she's incredibly submissive to any authority figure. After all, she has no control in the light world. But through the course of the game, she realizes she does. Maybe not over her world, but over herself. She learns that she can be independent. Even though it's scary, she can be herself. And snowgrave shows Noelle exactly how much control she has to lose, and the consequences of losing it. Remember, she can't say no to us, we MAKE her slaughter everyone in the cyber world. And kris is visibly upset when he goes to the mansion, according to susie. So the normal route, and snowgrave both have reasons why Noelle realize she has control. Which exemplifies the themes. In the dark world, there's control over the hole ass world, it's fantasy, it's objects given form and personality. The light world is the crushing force of reality, no matter what fiction you partake in, reality is always, always ticking forward. And that is ultimately the theme of the game. It's ok to embroil yourself in the shade of fiction, just...don't forget. It's all a fantasy.
Honestly some fire ass points. I was trying to come up with a response or something for a second but I really don’t have much to add. The comment was worth the wait my man, props 🙏
@@deejus_e Glad you do, cause the grammar is honestly atrocious. If you can't tell I'm in the trenches when it comes to this game. There is so, so, so much going on beneath the surface. It's crazy. I have a bit of a recommendation. Please check out "everything about gasters theme" by Andrew Cunningham. I know reaction content isn't really your style, but it'd be cool seeing someone who's also a musician hearing about a music related topic.
you summed it up perfectly, ive been hyperfixated on deltarune for a year now and i can say that honestly might be the best explanation of the game ive heard ever
I was already dreading Noelle since Chapter 1 already showed us how mid she was but we knew she was gonna be important later. And this chapter gives her a fittingly unsurprising arc (well except for the gaslighting part).
"I liked part one because my choices didn't matter! Stop making me mindbreak the deer!" I think this encapsulates my problem with your frame work, choices and whether they mattermattering is a theme heavily explored in deltarune, in part 1 where you as a player character have few choices, in part 2 where characters fight to have a choice: Kris, Berdly, Susie, Noelle and Spamton all try to fight the confines of the narrative and the medium. Lik e how susie questions the conventions of part 1 with Acting and runs off with Ralsei, or how Spamton tries to get a new body and become free only to fail. How Susie gets pushed around by Kris even though she slowly realizes that kris isn't their childhood friend anymore, only to break in the end. What I find interesting is that the game takes and gives choices. Because while the player has power of the characters, the designer has power of the player.
I have 0 issues with snowgrave route as it was not introduced explicitly. No one ever would know about it if someone didn't discover it hours after the chapter get released. It has like a creepypasta vibe while in first days of the game because it's a "what if" route that everything about main storyline goes haywire. It's like doki doki 2nd half but secretly optional of course Comparable to genocide route but at least it was obvious to discover because almost all of RPG players kill every encounter and farm enemies. The guy discovered it, probably trying to max out their stats by killing everything

uhh pretty much everything here is completly and absolutley wrong, but ig i give it a pass, fine video or something to be honest, i didin't really feel that bad about noelle either, not because she is badly written (i think she is pretty decent so shut up) but becasue i literally can't get attached to any fictional character (oh yeah if any of you are gonna call me soulless you shut up too) i think the main problem is that you misinterpret the theme of "your choices don't matter", it's not a theme that is not just set in stone, it's more like "in this world, it's kill or be killed" where you can break this rule and prove it wrong the description made me laugh so i give you points for that too i guess
