Idk about that. The Knight seems to have done some questionable stuff like trapping the kings and putting the one who very obviously hates Lightners in charge and also possibly telling the King about the heroes just so he could set up an ambush for us when we entered Ralsei's Dark World for the first time.

Completely agree about Mike and Tenna being the main bosses of ch3: I've seen so many people saying that Mike is the chapter's secret boss, but it doesn't make sense to me as Toby Fox would want to keep the secret bosses a, you know, secret; Having them be spoiled in the previous dark world would be boring.
Meanwhile Knight Knight being the roaring knight is such an out-there theory that I feel like it will end as either "Woody theory-level of speculation that ends up being more of a shitpost than anything" or "4D chess move that is completely accurate about the roaring knight's identity and role which puts veteran deltarune theorists to shame" with no in-between.

    • @Alessia0217
      @Alessia0217 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

Also, thinking about it, there other reasons on why it could make sense:
      -Toby Fox already made a big and scary important knight in Undertale who is female with Undyne, which means he likes the archetype and it would make sense Deltarune would have a similar character;
      -Deltarune so far, despite having many important Undertale characters, has put it's focus on either new characters or Undertale characters that didn't get a big spotlight (Burgerpants, Gerson, Everyman,...): Knight Knight is literally a regular enemy so this statement would totally apply to her;
-While making one of the main antagonists of the game you want to be your masterpiece a regular enemy in your other title doesn't make sense at first glance, it would be the best way to hide them in plain sight as no one would speculate on them.

      Here’s another thing:
I found some connections that I should share before ch3 and 4. It is a supplement to Chess Theory that involves the book Trough the Looking Glass. The book can be represented by a chess game, and there are some patterns I found relating to the prophecy. I recommend looking at a summary and you will see what I mean.

And at the end, Kris is always going to reach the end of the board anyway, lining up with "your choices don't matter". Also a pawn has to move exactly 7 times to reach the end of a chess board (if it doesn't move two spaces as its first move).

  • @Agnes_2232

It's funny because i'm spanish speaker and the name of the rook piece in spanish is "torre" (the literal translation is "tower"), so until recently i thought that was the name of the piece in english too, so i was thinking... "oh, so the boss is a TV? Mike and/or Tenna? And the next chess piece is a tower? Then probably the next location must be a communication tower" (like this next "castle" is going to be one of those TV towers), and it made a lot of sense to me, especially since the fact that Toriel is in this chapter and maybe she's kidnapped like a princess and you have to rescue her from the tower where there should be a dragon too (from the book how to draw dragons and Susie will transform into Susiezilla to fight them), and probably you have to go up floor levels (because the Dreemurr's house has 2 floors and maybe there's something related to that), where each one is inspired by some television channel or programs (the weather, cooking show, etc), and that's why the 3rd chapter is supposed to be so long, because there are so many different areas with different settings, characters and dynamics, and at the end they will probably wake up inside Toriel's room (the last one) that was always locked and we will finally be able to see what she's hidding. But... it turns out that "rook" is the actual name in english lmaoo but the piece still looks like a tower tho, and unironically what Toriel and Kris lack is communication between them as she assumes what happens to them and simply lets them be instead of having a conversation about their feelings, and since Toriel is the one who has to be saved by Kris and not the other way around maybe this makes her finally trust them and stop being so overprotective

The thing is, we dont see any radio adjacent things besides the tv, landline, and microwave in the house (all three use electromagnetic frequencies, just like radio does).
While i dont fully agree with this channels guess on it being the landline, since we know Toriel uses it, its more probable than them owning a radio at all despite not even using their "old tv". Toriel may be old, but she isnt ancient enough to have a radio laying around, and if she did, we would see it somewhere. Plus the pun in the name doesnt really work with radio. "Mike" is practically begging for a pun with "Microphone" or "microwave" or something of that variety. Though to be fair we havent seen a microphone anywhere, besides technically the landline, and a microwave doesnt have much reason to be forgotten/discarded/replaced at that point in history.
In conclusion: no conclusive answer possible due to lack of sufficient evidence for current assumed possibilities

Couple explanations for some of the chess points confusion, in case anyone is at all interested:
Points do not materially affect the game. You can be many, many points up and still lose. What they are useful for, however, is to determine who is winning in any given position. If white has an extra knight, they are three points up and are therefore winning the game, and should adjust their strategy accordingly. Most good chess players really pay no attention whatsoever to points because it’s more of a tool to use when learning the game, and not something you need to care at all about when you actually know what you’re doing. For example, good players will often sacrifice points in order to gain a better position, which is a far harder thing to measure numerically, but can often make more of a difference in a real game.
With regards to bishops and knights, they’re given the same point count because it entirely depends on the position of the other pieces (especially the pawns) as to which is more valuable. If you want to overcomplicate things, all pieces have a sort of range of how useful they can be situationally, so there are some positions where a knight is effectively worth 4 points while a bishop is only 2. Nobody actually does this though, it’s enough just to say that whether a knight or bishop is better is entirely situational. And if you do some crunching, the consensus tends to be that the bishop is the more valuable piece slightly more often, but not nearly enough for the distinction to ever matter except at high levels.

He hates the other salesmen because they're successful when he's a failure living in a dump. He constantly follows the player around and idolizes our ability to make choices, something he can't do, which eventually culminates in him trying to forcibly taking kris's soul.

The flowers being the chapter 3 secret boss could make sense since we know dark worlds take into account the ideas of the individual lightners and not society at large.
For instance there are scary power sockets in chapter 3. But thats not a societal idea, thats noelle’s idea. Another instance would be the jacks in chapter 1 which, since susie and kris probably dont know how to play jacks (theyre young), the jacks are basically their light world versions with googly eyes.
I forget what the theory im getting that from is called.
So essentially the flowers could be discarded-associated since toriel and kris would associate those flowers with being discarded often. As asgore sends flowers often.

40:23 on the vessel, its prolly impossible 4 the vessel 2 actually be the knight candidate. The chapter 1 dark fountain has essentially already been created while we’re creating the vessel. So the only way the vessel could actually create the fountain is breaking out of wherever it is in SECONDS, and then run straight to the closet to create the card kingdom. This is genuinely impossible oof

a connection I tried making with kris was them being a pawn in the way that they only move forward one step at a time (in the sense that kris's progression making their way through the dark worlds progresses the story, i.e. the prophecy, forward) and that they move diagonally when they make an attack (like the ending scene of ch1 where they advance and cage the soul in a slow diagonal pattern)
with the way you pose the idea of pawn progression, kris maybe gets promoted to a "knight" in ch2. from the outside, the path from the bathroom window they escape from to the driveway where the car would be is the L-shape that a knight moves in (the odd pattern the knight piece possesses compared to the more straight forward movement sets the other pieces have is regularly known to be used tactically to catch opponents off guard when they strike, as in the midst of a game, the other player would be more likely to be distracted with planning and taking into account the more easier to read pieces to always see when a knight could flank them) the same could also somewhat be argued for their movement pattern during the ending cutscene where they make the dark fountain which the literal in-game knight is known to do

Really iconic that chapter 3 and 4 will come out together, since most rooks and bishops are alike and often paired together for a makeshift queen
But I feel like, one of the chapters won’t actually be in a dark world, or at least won’t be in a dark world until the end (prob chapter 4 or 5) which I guess makes sense, because a “spot” in chess can only have 7 possible variations: It either has a king, has a queen, has a rook, has a bishop, has a knight, has a pawn or has nothing.
But it would ruin the order, unless Toby considers a empty spot to be better than a spot with a bishop and/or a knight (better than a spot with a pawn is believable, as the other pieces can’t move if there’s pawns everywhere)
Am I cooking or am I going crazy like the rest of the fandom? Idk, maybe it’s just because I really would love if the knight is in chapter 6 and in chapter 7 we are the pawns
Edit: Oh my f-‘ing god (I made this whole comment literally JUST BEFORE he talked about how chapter 3 prob won’t have a chess boss 😭)
Still makes sense tho, a theme TV shows is “taking the spot”, being in the highlight
And could a empty spot be more valuable than a rook, bishop, knight and pawn? Well… it is better to have an empty spot a queen can go to than a spot with a rook, if you also don’t have enough empty spots your king can get easily checkmated, so I guess?

Here's my version of the chess game
    - The black pieces are darkners
King & Queen : King & Queen (duh)
    Rooks : Mike & Tenna
    Bishops : unseen church characters
Knights : Rouxls & THE Knight, as Rouxls's initials are RK, he would be the best possible decoy. As he keeps seeking greater evil masters, he WILL surely end up serving the (real) knight. The Knight itself... well if he has to be a darkner that we know, he must be either Ralsei or Seam. Or maybe it's a character that we haven't met yet.
Pawns : the flowers, I didn't think about that before watching your video but that's a great guess. The chapter about them could have Flowey-like beings doing some save-related shenanigans (as saving is a dark world thing), perhaps they will become some sort of "new knight" for a short while in order to lure us.
    The Player : Gaster
Noelle's mother and Alvin are not included here as they are not darkners, but could still be side-antagonists as Berdly was in Chapter 2, or even Susie in Chapter 1 somewhat
    - The white pieces are lightners
King & Queen : Asgore & Toriel. On one hand, we see Toriel driving around, having a job, she has MOVED on from her past relationship, meanwhile Asgore is STAGNATING in misery, poverty, he's stuck in the past, he can't MOVE. They are a perfect duo of King and Queen from a chess perspective (as well as the obvious UT reference). If Chapter 6 takes place in the Flower Shop, Asgore would therefore become the last and most important piece on the board (before the grand finale with Gaster of course).
Rooks : Berdly & Noelle. These two are obviously often paired, they're seen in the same dark world, they have quite a bit in common. Berdly being the rook could be a reference to him being a bird. For Noelle note how she's often represented in a christic form, with the thorn ring and her crucifixion by Queen; Jesus Christ is often associated with... crosses, which is how rooks move. The rook is a very powerful chess piece - the only piece with the Queen able to checkmate alone with a King - just like how Noelle is powerful in the weird route (also note that the animation of the snowgrave attack is an orthogonal movement, just like how rooks move once again).
Bishops : Asriel & Alvin. Both are related to religion of course, you may add that Asriel is the angel of the prophecy in Undertale. For Alvin, I don't have anything else to prove that he's the other bishop, but note that name could be a reference to theologian John Calvin, one of the founders of Protestantism, who believed in determinism (one of the major themes in Deltarune).
Knights : Kris & Susie. Susie is just... called a knight, she is fulfilling the role of a RPG knight, she is the white knight that's just obvious. Kris also fulfills the role of a RPG knight, furthermore they are controlled by the player, making them very unpredictible, something that seems common to all knights: Susie is chaotic, Rouxls is even worse and Ralsei or Seam would be an unpredictable twist to the story; just like how the knight is unpredictable in chess. The most obvious hint for Kris being a knight is that they're given an EGG by the man behind the tree, which in wingdings is written "left up up", the movement of a knight in chess. Kris also seems to be attracted to Susie but that's another theory for another day.
Pawns : the other classmates (Catti, Jockington, Monster Kid, Snowy, Temmie & December) + possibly Alphys and Undyne as Undyne seems to serve an important role in Chapter 3, and Alphys is obviously linked to both Undyne AND the classmates.
The Player : The Player (The Angel), this one is obvious

  • @notapro6430

17:42 really cool idea but iirc we literally see toriel use it to call the cops so I can't imagine it's that neglected
and one thing on the roaring knight candidate analysis segment, I think Papyrus has a good shot. Something that I've always been tripped up by is the Roaring Knight being called the Roaring Knight by Queen while she had no clue what the roaring was. The "Roaring" part of their name I think might actually be some sort of descriptor for some type of character trait. Papyrus fits the bill here as the roaring part could easily refer to roaring with laughter. Furthermore, Papyrus, if being manipulated by someone else, could actually lead us to the main antagonist of the game, be it Gaster or someone else (this would also apply to Alvin who I could easily see being led to believe they are doing something righteous). Another thing is that if there are two knights then I would assume that the Roaring Knight would be more tied to the game's overall story and the dark fountains, as they're the one being built up, opposed to the other knight who would be working in the shadows. Following this train of thought, I believe the non-Roaring Knight would be Carol. If there's two I definitely think Carol is one of the knights but she strikes me (from the little we know about her) as someone who'd be working independently like some sort of isolated solo act who just wants to find Dess and be done with it instead of someone who may be more interested in Dark Worlds by themselves.

only thing I disagree in this video is the characters in the lightner side of the chessboard. Ralsei already calls himself a pawn, iirc, and is a lot like one. Ralsei could still get a promotion and become the Queen piece, but regardless, I dont agree with him being the king.
I believe the king piece is Susie. She has a lot of lines about her being "the king"; her own color, purple, is associated with royalty; and she has crowns all over her room. Susie acts a lot more like a king would, even having parallels with the king from chapter 1.
I dont think the king being associated with men is relevant.
It makes me wonder how the rules of chess apply to this theory. It would mean that not only Noelle is expendable, but Susie is not?

Very simple way of explaining the point values of pieces is "how easy is it to checkmate the enemy king if you have a certain combination of pieces".
If you have a single queen (and your king) it's very easy, so it gets 9 points.
If you have 2 rooks it's slightly easier to checkmate the king, so 2 rooks is 10 points, so 1 rook is 5 points. And while it's a bit more difficult, you can still relatively easily checkmate a king with just a took and king. Then once it gets to bishops and horses it gets much more difficult to checkmate the king. Neither piece can checkmate on their own with the king. You can checkmate with 2 bishops, and you still can checkmate with 1 knight and 1 bishop (though this is more difficult). However checkmating with 2 knights and only is not possible unless the enemy king does a heavy blunder.
So in general the points values are just supposed to be a quick way of representing the material advantage of each player, and how they are matched against each other.
The real reason for the points it a bit more complicated than the checkmate -thing since points also consider mid game utility not just endgame but it's close enough

According to the Spamton Sweepstakes, Kris, Noelle, Azzy, and Dess buried an ICE-E's P"e"zza box in the graveyard when they were younger. Assuming that Chapter 5's fountain will be in the festival (which is in the taped off area as mentioned in 48:51 and BEHIND THE GRAVEYARD), we might end up getting an ICE-E-themed secret boss for Chapter 5 (I like to think of it as a play on the ICE-E crossword puzzle's "Nightmare" variant and how Noelle has that whole afraid-of-the-mascot-for-a-p"e"zza-place thing).
Interestingly enough, according to this theory, you would encounter the knight(s) as Chapter 5's final boss. A reddit post (or, err, was it a comment in the reddit post???????? I cant remember) described how Burgerpants could also quite possibly be a candidate for being a knight.
So basically, Chapter 5 with Burgerpants as the final boss AND an ICE-E secret boss?/?/??/?/??/?/?/?/????

I remember when I would go to church many years ago, the church would have a late night Saturday reception with a bigger Sunday morning reception, so with that logic it can easily explain going to the church at the end of Ch3 as well as being the location of Ch4’s Dark Fountain

this theory reminds me of the mechanical Turk, a machine that was presented as an automaton that could play chess, but was actually controlled by a grandmaster hiding under the table, I think consider the theme of freedom and control, it would make sense that after you defeat the machine, the person inside it comes out, and you beat them up and take their wallet.

alternative secret boss for chapter 3 could be a cowboy going off the theory that started up during the sweepstakes, from the page that references a cowboy shootout which later got mentioned as being "canceled", which most cowboy shows are canceled so the abandoned theme works. If you want the Sin ties Envy can still work, with the Cowboy being Envious that all the other Shows aren't "canceled" and technically all oblivious to being not free which the Cowboy would be free but ya know crazy.
