  • Kyle is a queer buddhist who lives in Singapore. He is the spokesperson for Rainbodhi Singapore - an organization for LGBTQIA+ buddhists. This video is shot in the temple grounds where Kyle spoke about his identity, if buudhism as a religion is queer friendly and what queer symbols and figures can be found in Buddhism.

From Buddhism point of view, everyone is equal, regardless of his/her sexual preference or orientation😃

They do have a stipulation in the monastic code preventing what is interpreted today as trans people from becoming monks, but not out of spite but because monks making themselves look feminine became at some point an issue for a lof of the monks trying to maintain celibacy and / or restraining from sexual thoughts. With that said, said trans people, for lack of a better word, could still become something in between pure laypeople and monks by taking extra precepts and basically attending monasteries on a daily basis. It's funny how all those restrictions were introduced based on precedents. Like there was this one very horny monk that kept inventing new ways of getting sexually pleased without breaking the precepts. First by inviting his former wife over and having sex with her. After it was forbidden, by having her jerk him off. After it was forbidden, she would undress and pet herself and he would jerk off. After *all* jerking off was forbidden he would simply look at her and come (like a teenager), etc. Haha. Eventually he had no options left though

Buddhists believe that our preferences in this life are very much influence by our habits and experiences in our previous lives.

Buddhism is a wise and interesting religion/philosophy covering a broad topic, so for issues like sexuality or identity, it'll say that it's too small a matter to concern 😂 not in a negative sense but means don't bother one's private life.
From a Buddhist viewpoint, it's the sanction and punishment for being gay (as some politicians/regimes do) that is considered "sin", because it's performing harm against innocent living beings. Fact is that one's sexuality/identity has never harmed others' life, but the legal punishments did (corporal punishment, imprisonment, execution etc). In fact, any religion preaching kindness should be pro-lgbt, as it's the lack of compassion and harming others' lives that are considered "sin"!
I think the future would be more interesting, and have more fun in life 🌈It's good that people change. I've heard many that were initially anti-lgbt that later became allies or even advocates! It's important that people like Kyle come forward to share their life and viewpoints, so that there is a more understand that there is actually a whole diversity within the minority group, and many valuable things to learn. As a queer and 100% ally, actually I didn't have good impressions about gays initially (I'm not religious, but mystic in spirituality). I came across the concept in high school, and I'm generally against anything related to intimacy stuff (not just gay), but later when I understood the legal situations they face, I became totally ally of them, because punishing them or not changes nothing in my life, so why not making people happy!?
These days I believe less in words but more in stories and deeds. Sharing stories is totally different from just opinions, and really make awesome changes. Kyle's story is so interesting, and the devoted spirituality, together with the beautiful Bodhisattva statues, is manifesting the 5th dimensional world! I've come to think, that in Heaven, the high-dimensional realms, people and beings appear and act not strictly conforming to the binary way, but more harmonic in the look and inner energies ✨just like light and music.
Kodo Nishimura (西村 宏堂) is another amazing Buddhist that is Japanese and also queer.
