@@earlysda Oh I believe even Jesus would have accepted him, for he never tried to force his belief onto people, he even made an example of a samaritan (a heretic) as a good moral action to be followed. I think most Christians and Muslims misinterpreted the message, it's not about spreading the practice of worship, it's about moral guidance and principles that need to be followed.

@@kiriakosoikonomu2907 If you understand freedom of religion, you would know that church and state don’t mix. When Europe was run by the Church of Rome, you can read about the history of the persecution against all faiths not complying to the Church.
The reason JFK denounced his faith as a Catholic was to show people that he was for the people, not the Church. JFK was a Catholic, which in America nobody wanted, because Protestants left persecution to establish a free nation, a nation to be able to worship without being persecuted.
Believe me, if church and state unites, the church in charge will come up with some reason to persecute some poor minority believers. A Republic was set up in order to protect the minorities as equal. This is the reason for the second amendment, just in case a authoritarian government decides to take control and bring about us another Dark Age.

I am born in a Hindu family but had no specific interest in religions. I started my schooling in a convent, but after a while, I was put in a government school.
Every day, after the National anthem was played I used to draw a cross on me. My friend a church-going Christian asked me which Church I go to. I told him I don't go to Church. He asked me why I draw a cross after the assembly. My reply was that I may be a Christian and I needed to check with my mother who was a Professor as she would probably know.
It turned out that in the Convent I started drawing the cross after assembly, I used to draw the cross and my mother has seen me draw the cross even in temples.
"Why didn't you tell me"? I asked.
"Young children's minds should not be poisoned by these differences."

There is a rational explanation for this
These are Master/Slave religions - born when Kings ruled with an iron fist
Ancient people living under these Kings/Dictators used them as a template for God
Hence a King like God sitting on his throne in the Heavens
      Heaven is his Kingdom
To please him one must get down on one's knees, beg, grovel, sing his praises, swear eternal loyalty & obedience
And of course no King/Dictator would tolerate allegiance to another and so the hate and threats against all others
Think of living in Russia under Putin or North Korea today!
That was the life back than and the ancients came up with such Gods!

India is becoming more and more Hindu ethno state. The problem with this is the rise of extremist toxic Hindus (like terrorist ISIS in middle east) who wants pure Hindu state, they want Abrahamic religions to leave, they terrorize them by forming vigilante groups who "protects" cows and sacred animals but in reality uses it as a cover to beat and assault Muslims, christians and Jews. Most cases are of Muslims since they are the second largest minority. There is also the rise of Hindu priest who compel their fellow followers to "protect" their women by Isolating Anyone of Abrahamic faith, mostly Muslim again. They don't allow any of that group to marry one of their own. The entire case is dangerous and hate fueled bullying.

Every day you enact your worldview on other people by interacting with them. The only way to “live and let live” is to live on an island alone, then you truly can do whatever you want. Otherwise you have to have boundaries and rules of conduct if there was another person. Because both people can’t do what they want without infringing upon the other. The idea of a Christian proselytizing is similar to a mother who cares deeply for her son. If you love someone you will be angry when they do something stupid to hurt themselves, such as abusing opiates, etc. This is the same with Christianity. The Christian sees people living selfishly, and by that hurting others, themselves, and most importantly God who desires the best at all times for all people. And to live selfishly is stupid, and unreal. Because the Law of God is simply a description of reality. Yea verily if you jump off the roof a building you will become paste.

Its the standard operadi of old British and Jesuits forces when they took over a city or country, they sent in the missionaries. The end result is the destruction of all cultures and traditions. Chinese traditions like visiting ancestors grave are frown upon, having a picture of idols is demon worship. Who the hell died and made Christian god? Christianity is at best a religion made in middle ages. 1000 years ago, you barely had handwriting and even calendar, let alone write the bible. "Dangers of religions "
This only came about after the WW2 and the new world order agenda being imposed on the masses of the nations globally.
Read pre-world War history. People fared well in religiosity. Moral decadence was at the lowest. Society illness at the lowest. And a lot of other things.
Read about welfare of society during that time. Exception is where corruption took evil root in the great churches leading to birth of secularism . From here, they wanted to spread their secular ideology to other nations. To make them carbon copy of themselves. And thise who don't oblige or bend to their ideology, face great challenges, particularly economic boycot even sanctions of inter-trade.
Look about around yourselves and within yourselves; what identity do you have? You are what they intended you to become: carbon copy of themselves, embracing their ways of lives, beliefs and everything. Your ancestirs would not even recognise you as their progeny if they could come out of their graves today!!
This is the fact. And only those who abandoned their roots will say religiosity is dangerous.
Our ancestors lived with different religiosity in harmony all these years, it was never a problem until that idea was planted into our heads.
During LKY times, the local Muslims got sucked the idea of secularists and almost became like them. Almost. Until, by God's grace, the realisation dawned upon them and they repented and mend their ways.
Christians or Muslims, are only mending their ways to return to the path of the one true God for the benefit of life here and hereafter. And that is totally praiseworthy ❤.

Religion is a sensitive issue and in this PC climate today his words would have been a no go.. looking at the comment thread here definitely scared me a little... "live and let live" is the most important thing, and on a larger scale the separation of religion and governance. Everyone can believe that their religion is the absolute truth but the problem comes when someone impose their religious beliefs to others or even persecutes others because something is wrong in their eyes. We see in many countries when religion gets mixed into politics it gets really ugly and the minorities who believe in another religion suffers... hopefully Singaporeans and Singapore can be sensible and can balance their religious beliefs with tolerance for others because no religion has the absolute claim to all the truth of the world... Strangely, the most persecuted groups in the world, are the true Christians. (there is a nominal group who are Christian in name only). It will continue to be persecuted and hounded, accused and matyred till the end of age. China is an example, but today, Christians exist in the millions. Today the news in Manipur, India is very sad. Many tribal groups who are mainly Christians had their churches and homes looted and burnt, with silent consent from the government. Is it in the news? No. And it's not for political but for religious reasons.
The Myanmar tribal Christian groups are also suffering the same fate from the Junta. See the thousands of Myanmar refugees spilling into neighbouring countries - Malaysia, for example. If you have worked among the refugees, you can hear their sad tales. Malaysia is under constant threat of losing peace and harmony because of politicians using race and religion to get power. We too long for the tolerant, peaceful years of long ago that LKY speak about, where our friends were from all races and religions. We formed many happy relationships

Yes let's live and let live....but unfortunately these religious bigots and fanatics will not rest until they, and only they rule the world......and willing to use violence to achieve their means. So we can't even leave them alone as that will be at our perils.

Europeans were not the first Christians. The Middle East, in places like Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, etc. were the first Christians and most of the early Christian leaders came from those countries. Today Christian communities such as the Assyrians, Maronites, and Copts still survive in these countries and trace their roots back 2000 years.
Armenia was the first Christian country (converted in 301 AD), and their ruling class were elites from the Persian Empire at the time. Ethiopia was the first empire that converted to Christianity (in the 4th century), not Rome, and they remain Christian to this day. It wasn't until several hundred years later that Christianity reached most of Europe.
Christianity reached India (1st century) before it reached Britain (3rd century). It reached China (7th century) before it reached Scandinavia or Russia (9th century). In fact Christianity arrived in China at the same time Buddhism was reaching Japan. Buddhism was also seen as a foreign religion by both the Chinese and Japanese, but now it is seen as their own religion.
It was not inevitable that the Russians or Scandinavians or English would become Christians while the Chinese and Indians would not. The Christian communities in the state of Kerala in India trace their roots back 2000 years. No European communities except maybe the Greeks can trace their Christian heritage that far back. Christianity is no more "foreign" to India than it is to Europe. It's been in India for longer than it's been in most of Europe.

They think we Hindus feel ashamed or inferior when they call us Cow or idol worshippers.
Please, we are not ashamed of it. But why don't you also mention that we also worship The Sun, The Moon, The 9 Planets, The 7 stars, The Earth, The Water, The Wind, The space, The fire. We worship Trees, rivers, the Mountains. We worship the Universe, the time. We worship the birth and the Death. We worship our parents, our elders not just animals like cow etc. Because God resides in every damn thing, even in the smallest of particals. No wonder they named the world's smallest partical Higgs boson as 'God'
We are not even a bit ashamed of it of our practices. Because we didn't change our practices even after 20,000 years, we bow down our heads before the same deities we used to 20000 years ago.

actually the rot in India started during Nehru's time when special favors were shown to muslims of India so they may be reassured to live in a majority Hindu nation (it was thought appropriate considering the history of partition and violent religious clashes). This included a separate "muslim personal law". Eventually, muslims came to be regarded as a "vote bank" for the Congress party. they were always assured of muslim votes and thus gain substantial political advantage during elections.
It is this special treatment of muslims that has resulted in problems today. This gave rise to a feeling of neglect by majority community whose problems were not addressed.
Then came a clown called V.P. singh who decided to divide Hindus further along caste lines.
All this gave rise to resentment among middle class Hindus and led to resurgence of right wing BJP. This was a slow and steady process.
