the beginning of my Seraphon Army...thanks for that
awesome! Good luck with your army and thanks for watching!
I gotta say, I really, really, really love this. To me this a new classic for all future Seraphon painters.
Thank you! That would be really cool... nothing better than inspiring and helping out fellow painters.
You've made this so accessible and easy to understand. Absolutely top notch and can't wait to see what else you work on.
Thank you! That's great to hear. I'm glad it was helpful!
Wow, there are a lot of cool tips and tricks packed into this video and we see a lot of great examples of your wetblending technique with contrast paints. The quick stone and marble techniques are also stand outs. I love the scale/skin color combinations on the dino and rider, and I would personally do all one color dinos if I was army painting, or maybe half another color, like reverse the colors and do teal scales with red eyes. I do have one criticism. You said you were painting in a hybrid style giving more focus on some elements and less on others, but to me it seems like you put a lot of effort into all parts of the model and it isn't clear which elements you put less effort into. Overall fantastic stuff Mr. Matt. Please keep them coming.
Thanks Shane! I guess I'd say the main low effort areas are the ones I didn't highlight - the skin and scales on both the dino and rider. At least it feels low effort compared to my normal way of painting, which I highlight and shade more extensively. Thanks for the feedback!
as someone who's just recently purchased contrast paints and didnt have the best results at first, watching your videos have been really helpful in improving my painting with them. Thanks Matt!
I'm glad the videos have helped! Yeah there are some tricks to the contrast paints, and a little bit of finesse too. Keep on painting and you'll get a better feel for them in time. Thanks for watching and good luck!
Amazing, I'm just starting out AoS and seraphon are who I'm going with. Thanks for the tutorial
Awesome! Glad I could help out. Good luck with your army!
AoS Seraphon might be GW's best sculpts ever.
I agree they are really good!
I don't say words about your skill🤩 As others have said, this will be the new standard for Seraphon coloring, at least for mounts. You did an excellent job🤩 I can't wait to see the next video 😄
Thank you! I'll keep the videos coming!
That's such a gorgeous mini, it's the type of thing I want to buy just to paint, I don't even play AoS (or Old World). Beautiful work!
Thank you! I feel the same way, I don't play AOS either but I had to get it!
Your videos are great, so relaxing and inspiring to follow!
Thank you! Makes me really happy to hear that. Good luck with your painting!
Great finish. I was going to airbrush mine but re evaluating now
Thanks! Airbrushing is great too. Good luck whichever route you take!
Awesome ! And can i say this video, with your calm, the beautiful paint job and the music, is very very relaxing ? Thanks for an-stress me ^^
Thank you very much! I'm glad the video is a relaxing experience!
Im already waiting for it!
See you tomorrow at the premiere!!
The opening shot looks fantastic! Adding this to watch later after work
Thanks! Hope you enjoy it!
I’ve watched a lot of mini painting videos, mostly on in the background while I paint my own projects. This is the first one I actually want to go back and STUDY to get a feel for how to do this for myself. I think this is truly my favorite mini painting video of all time. Absolutely fantastic. I also love the background music you chose. Not in your face yet not sleep-inducing. Fantastic job all around.
Thank you for your really kind words. What a great comment to read. Thanks for watching and good luck with your painting!
Fantastic paintjob mate! I want more dino painting tutorials! I love your job man! Maybe You could paint aggradons in JP Lost World versions? Or raptadons in Dino Crisis 2 Oviraptors scheme? Man I need more dinos on this channel, cheers!
Thanks! I'd like to paint some more dinos. We'll see what the happens over the coming months!
Lovely job! the stone is particularly well done.
Thanks!
Thats some brush control man! Love the mix of contrast and traditional paints, well done.
Thanks a lot!
Excellent painting and great tutorial!!!
Thank you!
Fantastic work!!!
Thank you!
Oh my goodness, this is beautiful. You've probably sold a bunch of people on Seraphon with just this video.
Thank you! That may be the case! I wonder what the numbers are. Even if it just inspires people to paint something, that's enough for me. Thanks for watching!
Awesome video. I clicked on it as a random recommendation primarily due to the beautiful colors.
I appreciate the level of detail you go into. You're the Bob Ross of mini painting! Subbed and looking forward to more.
Thank you for your kind words and for subscribing!
awesome tutorial as always!
Thanks!
I'll be painting some Monster Hunter board game minis eventually and I can't wait to try these techniques out on them!
Awesome!
Amazing, simply amazing. Thank you so much
Thank you!
Those colors are so vibrant. Like autumn themed Seraphon.
Wow. Thank you very much! Would love more videos of lizards :)
thanks! I have an Oldblood on Carnosaur in the queue, hopefully I can get around to it soon!
@@MattsHobbyHour Having just entered the painting space with OnePageRules I can't wait for this one!
Awesome! Loved the chilled atmosphere, will be subscribing!
Great to hear, thank you!
For models of the same unit, I'd go for a similar but unique paint job such as a custom stripe pattern for each raptor.
Cool idea, I like that!
Looks great as always!
thank you!
Thanks Matt ! Clear and brillant as usual !
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
Incredible
Thanks!
Great video!
thank you!
Thats an awesome looking orange on that Aggradon that I may or may not use for my future Chaos Lord on Karakadrak! The other scheme I was thinking of was the green saurus warrior video a few months back. I'm trying to figure out which color would contrast better with the metallic iron armor theme I am going to run with for the Chaos army. Love to see you take on the AoS range! Thanks again!
Thanks for watching! I think orange would compliment the iron armor better. Green would still be pretty cool though, especially if you're playing Nurgle. Good luck!
That actually may workout really well, I'm going for a Khorne themed army! Looking forward for future tutorials from you. Cheers!@@MattsHobbyHour
Very nice. Very talented🎉
thanks for watching!
Cozy, informative and really well done. You rock! 🐤
Thanks for watching!
16:44 is actually part of the skin, the crest to be precise.
thanks for watching and for clarifying!
Brilliant tutorial :)
Thank you!
excellent
Thank you!
damn this is clean
Thanks!
great vid, keep the seraphon videos coming :D
your voice reminds me of the comedian joe pera btw
Thank you! I've got a Spawn of Chotec on the desk right now; should have that video up later this month.
Man I should really pick up some contrast paints
Please more Seraphon. I've already bugged you in other videos lol
more Seraphon will be coming soon! Thanks for watching!
i would like you to have an intake on the beastflayers warcry band in order to know how would you approach painting some ghouls
Ghouls would be a lot of fun. I'll have to see if I can get my claws on some of the new releases.
Very beautiful! Will you also bring new deathleaper's painting video?
Thank you! I hope so, I have a lot of projects I need to do!
This is an absolutely great piece of work and will surely help me a lot painting my Aggradons. There's one thing I like to ask though: The new Saurus models in the armybook seem to have some sort of green hue on them (cf. p.50 the Astrolith Bearer, p.52 especially the models at the bottom of the page, or the top picture on p.107 in contrast to the old bluer tone in the lower picture). Do you have any suggestions for colors to get this blueish-green hue? I was thinking about Akhelian Green and maybe Coelia Greenshade. But this is what the painting guide on p.64 says, but the picutres here look entirely different.
Yeah I'm not really sure there. Akhelian Green or perhaps Stormfiend might be a close match. The painting studio doesn't normally use Contrast paints for the box art; so I'd be willing to bet it's layer/base paints (possibly incubi darkness, stegadon scale green, or sotek green). Hope you find a close match, and good luck!
Wow again
thanks!
Very nice! What do you use to drill the holes for pinning the models?
I use an old GW pin vice (a small, hand-twist drill). I believe GW still sells a new version, and other companies sell them too. And I ordered some drill bits that are the same size as a standard paper clip.
Great video. When you say thinned slightly but contrast medium, especially for the Skeleton Horde, Is there a ratio you do?
No specific ratio, but if I had to guess maybe around 1/6. A very small amount of medium. It's really just to make the paint a little more workable and fluid, and it varies based on what I'm painting so the ratio changes. I'd recommend trying the paint undiluted first, then thin it slightly and test again, until you're happy with the result. Usually I'll test out a color on the base or if theres an inconspicuous area on the underside of the model. Thanks for watching and happy painting!
With how much you use skeleton horde im beginning to wonder if you put it in your coffee too
Haha, that would be an expensive cup of coffee!
can u do a video on the differences between the Citadel paints? or is there a certain way to set your paint up for speed painting?
There isn't a specific way I set up when I'm trying to paint stuff fast. I just want to make sure I have everything I need at arms reach, and some good music or a podcast.
What do you mean by the differences between Citadel paints? A review of the whole range, or something more specific (like Contrast)? What kind of stuff would you find valuable in that kind of video?
In the meantime I'd encourage you to join the channel Discord (there's a link in the About section on my channel page) and if you have any specific questions it's much easier to talk about them over there. Thanks for watching and good luck with your painting!
@@MattsHobbyHour I’m super new to mini painting like I haven’t touched one with a brush yet and I’m building my army. But when I watch your videos I see you use the “speed paints” do they come super runny? I’ll join the discord and ask some more questions when I’m free
@@MattsHobbyHour thank you for the quick response
@@jackcat8994 A lot of the paints I use are Citadel Contrast paints (Speed Paint is a similar paint available from Army Painter but I don't use that brand). Contrast is runny and similar to watercolor or ink; it is transparent and you have to paint it over a white or near-white undercoat in order for the color to show up. For very beginner-friendly information I would recommend the Games Workshop channel on TH-cam, they have a lot of videos for those just getting started.
I'll try to include some more beginner friendly content on my channel in the future.
Welcome to the hobby!
@@MattsHobbyHour thank you and honestly I think I’m going to stick to your videos as I like how you do them and format them I’ve watched the one on your saurus’s like 6 times to get as much info as I can. Is it best to get citadel paints online in a set or something?
did you make those cork holders?
nope they're just corks from bottles of scotch/bourbon. I like them because the base is wide and they always sit flat.
I need to need my bourbon choices then@@MattsHobbyHour
