Lizardmen were the army that got me into warhammer back in the 2000s, new models are great. Still have my fingers crossed for a Clan Jade Falcon/Smoke Jaguars tutorial soon-ish though.
I cannot believe the work that goes into a mode of this quality. My mind is blown! The books certainly don't go into this much detail. Its made me appreciate this level of painting a lot more.
These videos are always so good. Maybe it's just my learning style, but I always take so much away from Duncan's tutorials. I love how you're able to just see everything happen, super close up as he's explaining it.
He looks great! I'm still learning how to paint eyes and you make it look easy as heck, Dunc! I got some good color ideas from this video as a part of my ongoing quest to paint with brighter colors this year, so thank you for that.
This simple yet effective paint job is why I was so tempted to start a seraphon army! All of the new range is fantastic and the chance to work on scales, horns, and teeth was such a draw in. I may try and pick up that new box set eventually
This is almost too perfect timing. Ive just started painting an old WHFB dragon this colour scheme (using Vallejo Game colour equivalents) so it's extremely handy! Great job as always!
Hey Duncan just wanted to let you know that your color range made it to Dresden in Germany. Just saw them in my little local gamestore! Ill give em a try :)
Very nice colour scheme. I've set my heart on the alternative red colour scheme shown on the Aggradon Rider, I'm using a guide from the battletome for the red scales and peach flesh.
Have legit followed all steps as you said for the blue skin… mine looks nothing like your video. What you have and what you do is a skill! You make it look so easy and therapeutic but to do it… more practice required lol
Huge fan of your content and have been for a long time. Thanks for sharing this video I recently got the launch box and was a little daunted about how to start them. Do you plan to do any more of the seraphon range?
Follow on question to this video… I play another tabletop that features Lizardmen… IN SPAAAACE!, and one of their units gets an energy shield that’s basically a hexagon made up of other smaller hexagons around a central emitter strapped to their wrist. I was wondering if you had a technique to paint the shield so it could look something like the Kig-Yar shields from the Halo games. I figured maybe a wet blend, but not sure if that’s the way to go. Help me Duncan Rhodes… you’re my only hope!
It will thin it it but it will give a different result. You will be creating a Contrast type paint. Use Lahmian Medium as it's based off of a Wash medium.
Eventually, once the Kickstarter has been sent out and it's available online. We will also have a conversion chart available so you can follow along using your Citadel Paints :-)
Ok, I have no problem with Duncan using non GW paints, I mean why even would I but would it be possible when paint to suggest an alternative paint colour/range or even link to a conversion chart for that purpose?
Hi! I'm thinking on starting an Adepta Sororitas army, and was wonderig how to best paint the Immolator (the stained glass tank). Could you maybe make a tutorial for that sometime in the future?
Hi Kacper. We have a full, indepth guide on painting the Immolator over at the Academy (www.duncanrhodes.com). It covers everything you need to know to paint the tanks from start to finish including the stained glass window.
I think you may have missed the Spine Caps. Other than that t looks incredible! im hoping to do a desert theme for mine, lots of dark browns, tans, and sandy tones.
This looks amazing but after starting my Lizarddudes with contrast I don't think I can go back they just pop with the almost florescent colours...still nice to see other styles presented though.
I think the scales should be a shade darker than the skin if going for the iconic blue/teal color scheme, they look quite odd being exactly the same color, almost as if they've been forgotten about.
Agreed. We spoke at length about doing that but felt, in this instance, that we would do what the 'Eavy Metal team did for the codex and box. We figured there must be an updated reason that they did that 😊
@@DuncanRhodesDRPA that's really strange. Admittedly I don't have the battletome but the preview article photos at least show noticeably darker scales.
I feel your pain, I've been trying to figure out what colours have been used on the box with no success. This tutorial comes the closest, but the box art scales definitely have more of a blue tone to them, and the chest skin is much lighter. But also the EM team have clearly used very different techniques too, every scale is individually highlighted, the skin looks like it might be layered. Especially if you look at the Kroxigors. Not convinced there was much washing and drybrushing going on.
Duncan can you do an orange Lizardman? Seraphon are always the same couple of colors and I really need help with some orange lizardmen PLEEEEEEASE-UUUUUUH???!!
You can try some Gryph -Hound Orange over Wraithbone and then apply a darker Orange for the scales or even a Red. We've just released a tutorial over on the Academy website (www.duncanrhodes.com) where we paint one of the Seraphon Raptadons with a similar scheme... but the above advice should help you get started. Try it on one and see how you get on 😊
I‘m currently introducing two friends of mine how to paint minis. One of them got a nearly complete army that was fully painted and only learns to paint a few capstone minis. He‘s very much into wetblending, true metallic metal and all that jazz. The other has at least one full army of grey plastic to paint, he is much more into contrast and slapchop etc. The latter got completely discouraged by painting tutorials, because the end result is, in his opinion, skyhigh out of his reach. While watching this video, I understood what he meant. You reached a point about two thirds through, that would have been obtainable using contrast paint, some drybrushing and a wash or two. But then you start layering on top of washed surfaces and edge highlighting incredibly fine and consistent lines. How about announcing that a miniature is basically done and the following steps are just nice to have bonus eye candy? You could get real crazy to show people a glimpse into the rabbit hole, without making them seem like toddlers with crayons 😂 Also, I have 0 interest in AoS or Skinks, but I always learn something new in your videos. Thank you for sharing!
Good question and the answer is simply that we don't want any barriers for people to paint their miniatures. Getting set up with an airbrush is an expensive endeavor for most and that becomes a barrier for them. If you do have an airbrush then priming them or base coating them is a great way to get started quickly, especially when painting a unit or a horde army. 😊
We reckon if you play around a bit, they sure could! We had that very conversation whilst filming this. In fact, Rog said that very thing! They do have an OldWorld feel to them which is great. We can't wait for all the range to come out.
I've never been fond of blue lizardmen. If it works for you, that's great, but it doesn't work for me. Mine are all countershaded green and yellow; a more common reptilian color scheme. (Yes, I have no doubt there are some lizards that are blue. Most common lizards are countershaded brown and yellow, or green and yellow, or outright camouflaged.)

Duncan applies his first base coat and already looks better than my finished minis lol
Lol thin those paints bro! Also get an airbrush 🎉
Very cool to see all the different techniques for lizard skin and scales. Thank you!

MAN did it take them forever to update Lizardmen. Great model anyways and paint job as always!
Sure did! And judging by the models in the codex that haven't yet been released, we're in for a treat!
Now if only they'd update Skaven.
Duncan you are inspiration to paint my Primaris Ultramarines (WH40k), and Seraphon (AoS). Thank you for videos ❤💪
I love the blue and green warrior.
Love to see a version of this for painting the models the more realistic green/brown that, I think, GW showed for the Kroxigors.
My favorite blue color scheme.
This is almost too perfect timing. Ive just started painting an old WHFB dragon this colour scheme (using Vallejo Game colour equivalents) so it's extremely handy!

Thanks. A dragon in this scheme would look pretty darn cool 👍
Duncan finding any excuse to wear the Face Camo. 😂
Hell yeah!
This'll help my blood bowl painting!
Awesome!
Great paint job! The stomach and abbs of the saurus look really well highlighted!!
Thanks. And best of all, it's really easy to achieve :-)
Hello! Fantastic paint job! Any chance of a Raptadon tutorial? The fading from red/orange into white on that raptors back looks intimidating to do 😂
I love coelia green shade!
It's a great colour and really useful too
Mix it with akhelian blue and some medium and you have a fantastic colour for alpha legion marines
Really perfect timing for this video, i just bought me the seraphon box wich came out recently :D
Would be awesome to see you do a Bretonnian knight in anticipation for The Old World coming out : )
Can't wait for your paints to get to Florida
We don't deserve you Duncan
You the best
Fantastic tut as always!

Oh wow! That's fantastic. Can I suggest giving Doom Death Black, Trooper White, Skulker YellowSir Coates Silver, Dragon's Gold and maybe Battle Mud Wash a go?
@@DuncanRhodesDRPA Alright. Alright. Alright. Will do :)
Nice video tutorial for the Lizardmen!
I’ve been painting my figurines, different colors like a dark blue and light blue color
Very nice colour scheme.

Very nice indeed 👍
@Duncan Rhodes Painting Academy thank you. My test model turned out great, time to paint the models in the box.
Not quite finished the video but had to comment that Glistening Gums is a fantastic name for a paint color 😊
Thanks lol, we had some fun with the names 😂
Excellent vidéo, thanks for this!
Awesome as always mate. Thank you for the tutorial videos
Yay! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment 😊
Lovely irony of having Army Painter as the advert at the beginning of your video !!😂😂
Bwahahahaha....😂 Nice! In all seriousness though, we know them pretty well, Adam and Bo are a great bunch of guys and passionate about the hobby 👍
Woukd be lovely to see other colour schemes than the standard blue - like in 5th ed.

Hello. Yes, it is all about a little practice but you'll get there quicker than you think 😊
Awesome video dude! Can you please do some videos on how to fix mistakes and recover paint jobs? I'd really like to see how you tackle that
We did one....

I am looking to start an army of scaly lads. Any hints on how to make a red / orange scheme?
Gryph-charger Orange all over Wraithbone, then paint the scales a darker red for contrast. That should help you get started 😊

Really wish the Color Forge was available in the US. I use Corax White and they're the only equivalent I know of that isn't terrible.
hi duncan! love the video. do you have any more seraphon stuff on your website?
We sure do.

Love this video 👌🏼 I’m also an academy member and was wondering how you would paint a chameleon skinks skin and scales ?
Nice one! 🙏
Is it possible to use a sort of red instead of the blue and do it more or less the same way?
Hey Duncan, will contrast medium thin shades and washes just as well, it will it generate a different result?
It will thin it it but it will give a different result. You will be creating a Contrast type paint. Use Lahmian Medium as it's based off of a Wash medium.
'Welcome to The Jungle. We got fun and games'
Can u paint the current thousand sons like u did the adeptus custodes and use the blood angels red contrast paint for the blue bits of armor
Are any Wave 2 TTC paints going to replace the citadel ones in this youtube?

No, it appears 'Eavy Metal changed the scheme. But of course, you can always paint them with the darker blue scales 😊
