Grow TONS of HERBS, VEGGIES, FRUIT in a Small Space BALCONY Garden | NO POTS!

  • Here's proof that you can grow tons of herbs, veggies, and fruit in a small space (like an apartment, deck or balcony) and use your harvests to create delicious season side dishes, body care products, season every day cooking, or preserve your bounty for months to come. In this video I'll share dozens of herbs, fruits and vegetables perfect for small space and beginner gardeners. As a homestead dreamer that currently works full time and lives in a townhouse in the city, I want to grow alll the things but honey, I barely have a slab of dirt in my backyard. Ditching the pots and maximizing my growing space by growing vertically has been a game changer. Now I'm growing over 100 different plants on a deck using a Greenstalk planter that doesn't require tools or much time to assemble. It's affordable, easier on your back and body than containers and helps keep pests and disease at bay. Take a look at how much you can grow in a small space (and the enjoyment you'll get from having fresh produce right outside of your door!)

    Hi Cassandra. I want to share with you how you have had a huge impact on my perspective of gardening. When I first saw your videos I was intrigued. Now I am encouraged, learning and informed. Today I'm excitedly waiting for my green stalk to arrive. I'm looking forward to trying the recipes you have profiled and I've bought several of the books you recommended. I'm canning, freezing and dehydrating. I look forward to watching all of your videos. Thanks so much for all of your effort. You're making a difference.

      Hi Catherine! It's always so good to see you! You have me grinning from ear to ear, lady! And, congrats on your Green Stalk purchase! Keep me posted! The ease of having a movable garden that maximizes space on my small deck has been steps ahead of when I had dozens of pots and buckets. The joy I get from being able to cook with fresh herbs from spring through late fall never gets old! The same is true with food preservation, in all of its forms. It keeps our budget in check, we eat great, its (mostly) a stress relief from a busy work day, and a useful skill I couldn't trade for the world. I hope that, within your kitchen, home, and soon to be garden that you are cultivating the spirit of joy that comes with this lifestyle. I'm so proud of you!!!

      Alexa! It's good to see you again, girl! Aww, thank you so, so much! I cannot tell you how much these stalks have been the answer to a number of walls I was hitting as a former mostly container gardener. This is my best garden yet, and honey I only consider myself an advanced beginner. The footage from this video is about 3 weeks old and things have only gotten wilder! Being able to roll your garden around, set up a durable garden structure in minutes, rotate your garden, stand in place and get to everything, and more has "set me free' -lol. They are perfect for small spaces and will easily pack when you move. Def keep me posted! Hope you're having a great week!

    Big +1 for growing your own herbs. There's nothing like home grown, and most commonly-used herbs are very simple to grow. Don't pay $8-$9 for a little jar or packet of something you can easily grow yourself in a pot in a sunny window.
    Oh, and pesto! Hells yes! I make boatloads of that stuff with basil & garlic scapes, frozen in portions for use throughout the year. 😋

    • @BecomingaFarmGirl
      @BecomingaFarmGirl  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hey Jeff! Darlin' you said it. I look at the prices of fresh herbs at the grocery store and I'm like, no way--its highway robbery! The vibrant taste from fresh herbs is so much better than dried (and when you dehydrate them at home you know they are super fresh and haven't been sitting around for who knows how long). And yes, around here, there is no such thing as "too much pesto"! Thanks for sharing!

I never knew such things as vertical-planters-on-wheels existed...I have a small patio & it's filled with pots of pretty plants & I thought hrm, maybe I can find a way to add an herb or two. But then I saw your *vertical* planters...oh my gosh...so amazing. Thank you for sharing your gorgeous patio garden! I cannot wait to get some of these & some heirloom seeds (will watch that video next). I'm going to start planning now & hope to have full crops by next spring...it's so exciting. Thank you for all the inspo...it's wonderfuL! 😍

    Love your videos! I have 2 greenstalks that I got just this past May. I am amazed at how well they work! Planting this year was more of a grins & giggles experimental thing as I wanted to see what I could get away with (I actually planted cabbage). Next year I will be doing some more serious planning because these planters work so well. I have a really small deck so I think my last purchase will be a leafstalk. I'm also excited because the hubby likes the garden so far that he surprised me with the info that I can get a 10 in 1 Vegro to put in our yard! 😄😄😄

    Cassandra, thanks so much for this great video! I somehow stumbled upon it and couldn't be happier as I never would have heard about the Greenstalk otherwise, or started watching your inspiring content. I like that you also weighted your harvest to see how much was produced over the season. And the addition of recipes and tips is wonderful. I even got my husband to watch the full video, and as a non-gardener, he's also inspired to get our hands on a Greenstalk! Just have to find a cost-effective way of buying one in Ontario/Canada because shipping from the States is 😳. The one store I found here also doesn't stock all of the accessories, or they're sold out. Hope you're having a great start to the growing season 🙋🏽‍♀️🌱!

      Hi Barbara! Thank you for the encouraging words, my friend! Yes, I wish I could post more too :). Shifting my mindset from thinking that "there's so little" I can do in a small space, to actually embracing that there are many projects to keep me busy between a small backyard and (mostly) from scratch kitchen have truly taught me that scaling my way to a larger homestead and using the time I have now, without the maintenance of a farm, is a true blessing. I'll get there one day, but the daily journey, even as a homestead dreamer, is very, very fulfilling! I wish the same for you!

    I would love to hear how, and you might have this one another video. About how you harvest and where you cut on your vegetables & herbs so to harvest what u need, but no harm the plants or growth there of... the plants. Those green stalks are very nice I wish I could afford one..

    Hello Cassandra, I just purchased my first green stalk this week using your code. When I opened the information, I was so surprised to see your story in there, way to go! I’ve been binge watching your videos and was looking for how you control pest and diseases. I didn’t find anything. In future videos, will you please share you information. Thanks!

    This is brilliant. I grow fruit and veg in my parents small back garden but these planters you are using are excellent - a must buy for next year.

    Great job! You should be proud of all you have done with so little space. I use grow bags on a step like system with the steps being made of cement block and boards in a "step" like set up so the can all get sunlight. Still wish I had a milk cow for dairy products!

    • @BecomingaFarmGirl
      @BecomingaFarmGirl  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Nancy! Your set up sounds beautiful! I think that's the thing about small space gardening--there no one way to do it, so truly the task is just finding what works for your space. I hear you on the dairy cow, honey! We'll both get there one day! Hope you're having a good one!
