My amazing wife recently received a certificate from the hospital thanking her for the 3000+ ounces and over 10,000+ preemie meals her donated breast milk provided. Our daughter was born 16 weeks early so she started pumping then....We had a 20 cubic foot standing deep freezer full of milk and decided to contact the NiCU my daughter was at to see if we could donate. Turns out they had a program so we sent as much as they could hold 😆 Can't wait to show her this!!!

My son was a failure to thrive baby, who had severe sucking issues. My milk dried so quick with him. So a community of people donated to help with the transition to formula it helped him with his immunity.

This is amazing! My sister had major issues when my nephew was born and ended up with a supplemental system - since my son was about 11 months older I had a freezer full of my pumped milk - my son refused bottles and only wanted to breast feed so we gave it all to my nephew. We Jokingly call them the “twins” to this day (and they are 20 and 21) and I have no regrets and she was so grateful! He had nearly a year of breast milk from me.

Theres so much that breast milk can do from babies to chronically ill people! A friend of mine husband had cancer & the lactation nurse said for him to take some breast milk before chemo & that it helps with it! Theres so so much that breast mild can help with not just feeding babies but helping sick people as well! What a gift you get to share!!!🧡🌺🙏🏼🦋🧡

I have a genetic condition in where I’m unable to produce breast milk. My daughter Lennon thrived on donor breast milk. In all, she consumed over 20,000oz of donor milk. She self weaned right around the age of two. It was incredible. Every time I would get low, the Lord would always provide us with an abundance of milk. I’m so thankful other mamas were able to feed my sweet girl. I’m so glad y’all get to experience this, too!!!

I had an oversupply with my oldest, but didn't know about breastmilk donation. I ended up wasting so much milk. I am two month postpartum now with my second and made the decision early in my pregnancy to donate. It's exhausting finding extra time to pump while full time nursing my son and homeschooling... but it is so worth it. We are donating right now to a milk bank. They have seen a sharp decrease in donations during the pandemic, so I am so happy to do my little part since I was blessed with my supply. It's so nice to see the other side through your video and see how much those hours spent pumping truly mean to those that receive my milk.

You didn’t know about donating and I didn’t know it was available. I had a C-section and was so miserable after my son was born. Hecwas born in a military hospital and I didn’t even know that was a thing. No one ever mentioned it. It would have been such a blessing. We were so broke and of course formula cost the earth as it still does today!

I’m a NICU nurse and a NICU Mom. I was an overproducer as well as my baby was on IV nutrition only for the first month of life before being tube fed. I actually was called after we had been home for a week that my milk was taking up too much room in the unit’s freezer and I needed to come get it. I asked if they would take it as a donation so I went back to sign papers, etc. and that was that. My baby was diagnosed terminal at 14 weeks but God gave us a miracle! I pumped every 2 hours 24/7 for 3 months on top of nursing him for the last month he was there. Breastmilk gets tested the same way blood/blood product gets tested. Because I am an RN, when getting donated breastmilk, always make sure the Mama giving it to you can be trusted or has medical proof she is safe to do so. I know Mary and Peter are being super safe and most of the time it is fine. Just a little PSA for anyone who may not know. ❤️

    • @kimbo500
      @kimbo500 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Breastmilk gets tested in various ways depending on the organization handling the breastmilk. Not all breastmilk gets tested. As one gets closer to the 'community donor' setups....there is less and less testing or even none at all. I still advise parents to discuss their options with a 'reliable' resource. Regardless of how safe one might think a YT couple/person is, there have been issues in the past where behavior and comments relayed by Mary were not true (and she was far from being super safe in public). This was confirmed by communicating directly with the CDC. Just saying.....one should really never assume something we see or hear on YT is reliable and we should take it upon ourselves to validate from a reliable resource.

Amazing! I was an exclusive pumping mom with an *oversupply. I was able to donate for 3 other babies and feed my baby until almost 2 years old. It's truly a labor of love to spend your time (when YOU have an infant nearby!) hooked up to a pump instead of anything else- especially sleeping!! God is amazing with our abilities as Mamas in ALL walks of motherhood.
*Oversupply sounds amazing but when you physically can't go longer than 3 hours between pumping, have plumitting electrolytes because you can barely stay hydrated, and have to eat an additional 1,000 cal a day it's a bit precious! It took me 3-4 months to wean and I got mastitis 3 times in that window. I'm so very grateful for every drop of liquid gold however!

Women used to have another woman breast feed their child, if, for some reason, the mother couldn't. It was called, being a "wet nurse". Society looks down on that so much now, but when I was visiting my twin sister, years ago, she had to take her 2-year old to the hospital over night. We both had newborns, so I just nursed hers, when she needed it, during the night, which wasn't often. I was so glad I could do that for her, because her husband was out of the country, and couldn't help.
I think donating breast milk is a selfless act, and a wonderful thing to do.

It’s also amazing that you can need a blood donation or an organ donation and you can have a reaction but not only does God include women in this miracle of giving birth, but He also gives our babies the protection of breast milk even if it’s from a donor mama! I was so blessed to be able to help nine other babies in that time. Unless you're single parent and can't sit in the back in the car with the kids like my mother she was always single parent. She died a year ago she was the best.

That's awesome that women donate breast milk. When my kids were babies I tried to breastfeed them. I guess I never had enough milk.. so we wound up using formula. It broke my heart. But I'm thankful my babies were fed

Just like your IVIG is a blood product from donation so is this milk... And it keeps the family going.

Have you considered giving the milk donors a thank you card with Elijah’s little handprint turned into a flower?
“Thank you for helping me grow.”

I know that Moms may also decide to pump and to donate their breast milk after losing a baby. So, that is a very tender aspect of breast milk donation that the recipients may not know.

Breastmilk is good unfrozen for about 4 hours, refrigerated for a few days, and frozen for up to a year if it is in a deep freeze

My friend got donated breast milk for her daughter back in 2012. Her mom found the resource as she wasn't able to breast feed for valid reasons. What I learned from her experience is that unless times have changed the recipient needs to be close to the same age as the donor's child. It's also a good way to pickup on food sensitivities and allergies. Her donor drank regular cows milk and my friend's daughter was allergic to cows milk and had to stop using the donor's breast milk. Unfortunately, my friend didn't seek to find a donor using something besides cows milk. She ended up using soy formula and it was not easy on her daughter, but it fed her until she was able to be off of it.

That is a blessing. You should get a breast milk pendent made with a cute saying or something and give it to her. I know its her breastmilk but it would be kinda like a keepsake for one of the babies she has donated her milk too.

Time line for breast milk goes by 6
    6 hours at room temperature
    6 days in the fridge
    6 months in the freezer
I would love to donate breast milk, but here in Germany it isn't that easy. Also I don't know if it would have worked out for me, just because I had so much milk after both pregnancys, but I could get barely anything by pumping 🤷‍♀️.
Thanks goodness I had no problems breastfeeding my baby's

I was watching and think it's amazing that people donate ... I was wondering if Mary considered inducing lactation before elijah arrived or if you'd have had more time would you have?

Not to speak for Mary, but the medication she takes may preclude that option.
