It’s kind of scary how powerfully Uriah word shivs the Emperor. If he wasn’t a bloodletter apologist I’d say he was the most rational and human character in the series
Well I mean nobody really brought up the fact that the warp in its current form as well as the chaos gods as they are were born and sustained out of constant devastating war and horrible atrocities...
Winters well to be fair it’s not like anyone would have ever mentioned it. Uriah is a biased choas worshipper and the emperor is too fractured to even make a decent argument besides, I’m right
Rustymcnut rational? Yes, most human? Vulkan might disagree. Uriah is certainly more human than the emperor ever was. What I like about this is that in the next podcast where the guest is a black templar the emperor finally realises how flawed his philosophy is
Magnus is the most rational character in the series IMO, at least on the issue of the Warp. He views the Chaos Gods as they are, manifestations of all emotions, the good, the bad, and the ugly, but that the gods seem to forget the first part (well, maybe except Slaanesh). "Oh I won't disagree with you there, [Tzeentch and Nurgle] both are [being assholes]." And btw, hating the flooging Furries is rational, change my mind. Especially since they burnt his planet, committing millions of war crimes in the span of like, a week. Maybe hating them to the point of breaking loose into his true form at the very mention of them isn't rational, but wanting to take vengeance on them certainly is.
Can we take a second to point out that Magnus is such a good dad that his kids were worried enough to swallow their pride and ask emps if he’s seen him.
I would like to point out that Magnus actually had his personality shattered and had his compassion destroyed. I think this side is still missing, which is why the current Magnus we have is the 'Crimson King'. Before that, he gave up his eye and let himself be shattered to save his children from the warp- as well as psionically connected to his legion so closely that they literally knew each other on a mental level. The big worry is that, the Compassion side destroyed itself. Magnus therefore should be entirely incapable of Compassion- which he has not shown in the TTS series.
@@chipper_dude Compassion I think is like a force, same with anger, kind of like choas. It's something grown within humans and other entities over time and it can be destroyed and created at will, but with caveats that the being in question isn't actively squashing attempts to create it.
1:29:52 I always like to think that that noise after Uriah says, "Tacos aren't even that good..." is the Emperor's neck snapping around to look at him.
I noticed how the kid barely even got nervous in this video ever since he sat on Lord Adorables lap. My idea is that since the kid puked on the floor last time, Adorable felt sympathetic for him and wanted to make the kid less afraid of the custodians and the emperor. If that is the case, Adorable would make a good father.
Seviari He was a pretty good dad back during the Great Crusade, but having an actual child rather then men calling themselves his sons seems to have changed “good dad” to “Super-dad”
Seviari remember how pissed off he got after this episode when one of the custodes yelled at boy? “ *_STOP YELLING AT MY BOY!_* “ He _actually raised his voice_ beyond a monotone to defend him.
Trolldrool Uriah’s actually the reason I love Chaos so much! He *wants* someone to be able to match him and keep up because it keeps him sharp, keeps him from growing dull and always helps to reinforce his faith as the gods grow from conflict as he does. He’s the reason I began to consider Chaos to be such a cool conceptual army as they’re divided yet united all at once.
@@mynameudste He's only wrong if you use examples which were made *specifically to mess with the Imperium* .Chaos is made from everything that is sapient-the good, the bad and the ugly. The Pleasure Planet is an example of the ugly, whereas Chaos Space Marines are diverse. We've seen that a couple World Eaters are making to be more than mindless savages, the Alpha Legion has astartes of all loyalties, and any singular marine can change their mind based on personality as was proven by the Thousand Sons who met the Ancient of Rites. It's not a question of right or wrong, my friend, it's a question of nuance and preference.
@@wyvernnemecek595 the alpha legion and thousand sons weren't corrupted like the other legions. If you take any scenario with a loyalist and a traitor, for example rylanor and thrice dammed fulgrim, the loyalist is almost always in the right and stronger willed (not succumbing to corruption)
@@mynameudste You realize that the Emperor only jumped into the fray *during* the Age of Strife, right? He let humanity run its course in search of glory, refinement, progress and contentment before then which had allowed mankind to reach its pinnacle. During the Great Crusade, so named in hypocritical atheism, the Emperor gave power to a religious zealot alongside a raging berserker, an information-hungry scholar, an arrogant espionage artist and a bigoted furry who all happened to be his sons. That's what's called Nepotism, one of the most disgusting kinds of corruption known to mankind. Traitor Astartes were those who'd been shown an alternative, one where the Emperor wasn't in charge. As it stands, it could've worked solely on the fact that Horus had shown great aptitude for leadership as well as management of large numbers. The same goes for Guilliman, whom proved that the Emperor didn't have to be in command for success to occur. The traitor Primarchs turned for moronic reasons yet nonetheless did they fight against a tyrant who used neither logic nor reason to rule, but brute force and psychic affluence. Adding to that, their sons are the ones who matter more than they do given that the Primarchs are all but useless in the greater narrative, proven by Rylanor's impact. Rylanor was a fine example of the Imperium's best, yet he's still a singular light in an abysmal government built on failure, and nonetheless fed Slaanesh by obsessing over the attempt to murder Fulgrim. If it were a matter of good and bad, the Imperium would be a villain wearing a white hat and offering candy to children because of how poorly it treats its citizens, its military and its neighbors. Chaos, meanwhile, welcomes xenos and offers everyone equal opportunity towards success with the understanding that failure is rewarded with pain. Chaos, at its heart, is the right and willingness to experience what we call *emotion* ! When stripped of emotion to use only logic and reason, we become naught but cruel executioners whose only goal is victory, something which Chaos doesn't wish to see. Yes, the Great Game is a neverending feud where everyone's looking to one-up the other, yet that's the *point* ! Even as they bicker and squabble, the gods are nonetheless working towards a common goal of *continuing emotional experience* ! They're fluid, even at their most concrete do they weave and bob to suit the environment in which they're a part.
@@polkanietzsche5016 the thousand sons have been basicly turned into dust bound to their armors. And I believe the space wolves and the thousand sons are bitter rivals. I love the idea of the chaos gods manifesting to their followers according to the moral integrity of said person. To a being like Uriah, they reciprocate his kindness, hope, compassion, and desire for faith, whereas for others they would appear more hellish, like a true mirror to humanity and progress would happen from within chaos according to Uriah’s belief. Awesome deepening of lore.
That’s dope concept but having Slaanesh ask for consent isn’t grimdark and doesn’t sell space marine minis. So GW is unlikely to do anything that narratively complex on such a large scale.
I cannot see how Magnus and Uriah could possibly talk with one another without agreeing with one another. I mean, the points Uriah made to the Emperor about Cha... Choas, are literally those Magnus made previously to his father. (Except for the obedience to Choas's gods thing, of course, there I think we could have an interesting debate)
I could seriously listen to Uriah and the Emperor argue for hours, I want Magnus in here too and maybe Fyodperor, Chaos vs the Imperium in a verbal joust.
I always love a power finish. Usually, people rely on a soft music background that stops at the closure, so you don't notice it until the silence hits you. This one increased the bass. I have seen someone's video where he can flat out close his argument with a power finish without any of that. (I even had to recheck to make sure that wasnt some trick to it)
Damn if that isn't a surprise, because it has the same effect on me as well, I think its the delivery, where the VA perfectly represents the character for but a moment, and in that moment we can intrinsically detect as social organisms his intentions and beliefs, be it from his tone or other, and by proxy, just how deep rooted they have become as of this video, and as of his 11,000 years of exposure to the unfettered instability of the warp, and so became even more resolute than he ever could have been as just a man, like when he performed his martyrdom in the burning, crumbling ruins of his church.

I love that Uriah's faith clear coincides with the chaos fours best domains- Tenacious as Nurgle, Honourable as Khorne, Sophisticated as Tzeentch and Beautiful as Slaanesh.
Perhaps the best way to heal the Warp is to act out the positive aspects of the Choas gods. Find chivalry in Khorne, resolve in Nurgle, hope in Tzeentch, and love in Slaanesh. Or perhaps it is best to abandon them entirely. Who knows?

@Devon Crusader Uriah had the unfair advantage of the emperor having his psyche scattered into millions of pieces into the warp. Not to mention big e is suffering in perpetual pain. That kind of situation can mess anyone's thinking.
@Devon Crusader I support the emperor because despite his ramblings he is correct. Uriah is just another brainwashed pawn of chaos who just so happens to possess charisma and some insignificant "facts" to defend his so called faith. Remember, things that are factually correct can still be incredibly idiotic.
Uriah’s talk about how the imperium looks and how big a hypocrite the emperor is just reminded of what Magnus was talking about when he described the Chaos gods. Even though Uriah worships Chaos, I’ll have to agree.
May I just point out that the inclusion of Boy adds an genius human touch to the conversation, and Nostalgia's performance is absolutely flawless. Also, Uriah's raging monologue starting at 51:57 is insanely cathartic .
I also love how this podcast helped flesh out each individual Custodes. The red one shows to have more individual thought and a different view than the other two custodes, especially the tattooed one who blindly follows the emperor. I have to say to call the emperor an asshole and even to his face when he really needs to know, makes me respect the red custodes more for his individual thought
I really like it in the black Templar episode when they actually have an argument. Then he goes to the emperor and apologizes and the emperor is understanding. It honestly reminds me of me and my dad
This is my favourite podcast episode. Aside from Uriah stealing the show, I love all the different roles the Pillarstodes have. Especially how Karstodes is full-on pro-Emperor but that little moment where he argues against him and regrets it, to the chagrin of Uriah, was a perfect moment. "What do you mean you're conflicted? I don't know if the lore was updated, but in Master of Mankind, the Sacrifice of the Psykers was done with much regret. It was done purely as an act of desperation, and many involved threw themselves into their duty because of the guilt they felt.

@@MrWiggles00706 I don't really see how. I know 99.999999999% of Chaos worshipers are true monsters, but Chaos Uriah seemed genuine in what he was saying. He was the one being antagonized by Big E throughout most of that and got cut off a lot before he could explain his points of view properly.
@@ShineDark part of it is humor and also probably having to explain it numerous of times. But Uriah is right about chaos being a reflection of human emotions, but he also left out it is such a extreme version of that emotion that the warp itself mends and corrupts the ideal principle of that emotion. The warp as a general definition is a sea of souls, and a bloated sea of souls from the war in heaven. Hence why you see more negative emotions being so powerful rather than good. Honor in battle can easily be portray as slaughter. Resilience can lead to stagnation and disease. He is right that you'll never squander it completely as it makes us human, but that doesn't mean that you can't nullify the corruption it causes in the warp. His logic is to turn a blind eye away and the evil that it inherently portrays, but to look at the human side or result of human emotions. Sure you can say that what big E has been doing, but his original intent is to safeguard humanity from ruin and the inconsistencies of the warp.
@@MrWiggles00706 That's fair. But I think Uriah has a point about the Emperor actually just hating Humanity. I think the best way to deal with the corrupting powers of The Warp is to make the galaxy at large a better place. Obviously, that's not exactly easy to do in the current reality of the Warhammer 40K, but the Imperium's way of doing things is only making their situation worse. Even before the Emperor was seated on the golden throne.
@@ShineDark to some degree of irony, the emperor is actually a bit more capable of dealing with chaos. For one his physke is much more powerful and able to manifest itself due to faith of the emperor. Example being the golden girl that saved Gulliman from Mortarion after the death guard invaded ultramarine system. He's no long human, and serves as a tool against Chaos, ironically going against his own beliefs unwillingly. The stagnation and arrogance of the imperium is damming it, but also there is a breath of surgence and resilience with new technology and innovation when Gulliman was brought back from death's door. Its a hard road ahead for sure, but right now it's a lot of slow changes due to how fracture the imperium is. It's changing, but at a reasonable slow steady pace.
The speed of those footsteps and considering that’s all it took for Karstodes to cross the distance between himself and the nearest window in the imperium’s throne room is cool to think about. The Custodes are OP, even in tts.
I know i'm a couple years late but god DAMN this has to be one of my favorite segments on TTS. It's oddly satisfying to see the emperor stay quiet as uriah just fucking tears into him. You can just feel big E chew on almost every single word that comes out of him, Rogal becoming tense and trying to defend his father the best he can while he himself is unsure. The silence of the custodians while they themselves barely breath a word because they're scared of angering big E. That and just how Uriah treats the rest of the cast. He doesn't hate the people who serve the emperor, hell he helped the custodians with some of the arguments and gave credit were it was due. The only person he has a grip with was big E and it's because of his hypocrisy and ignorance.
Gregory Peloquin though to be fair... a lot of his points could’ve been countered rather easily. For example, his point about the primarchs rebelling against tyranny : No, that’s not what they did. Lorgar rebelled because he was brainwashed by his adoptive father into being a religious cultist, which left him highly vulnerable to further corruption by chaos, and the Emperor did try to put a halt to this, nor just once by the way. And the other rebelled as a consequence of either Lorgar slowly corrupting their legions, or some event caused by Horus, by direct influence of the chaos gods and their forces (on the case of mortarion and Horus) or by the hand of Horus himself. Horus was brainwashed during a coma like state where he was attended to by cultists, etc, and the grudge he had against his father before that had nothing to do with tyranny, but a lack of reconnaissance for his work, and the leadership of the Imperium falling into civilian hands. An easily counterable point was the fact that the chaos gods are the embodiment and fuel of our drives. That’s.. technically true, but incorrect. It is the WARPED (no pun intended) embodiment of our emotions, since they were born after the corruption of the immaterium provoked by the war in Heaven, which is most apparent in the fact that humans left to their own devices without direct contact with, or worship or, the chaos gods did just fine, whereas practically all chaos cults and warp imbued civilization devolved into some kind of savagery, wether the Laerans, or the Companitas, or any slaanesh cult. And, by all means, I’m pretty sure that would be the case even without the warp being corrupted, by mere virtue of how overwhelming the chaos gods are to simple mortals. Finally, we know that a civilization can do just fine with them considering... the old ones were a thing ? Granted, Uriah may not know that, but the Emperor knows. Overall, Uriah made quite a few good points, but he is still dead wrong, and the Emperor, had he not been intellectually nerfed either for entertainment purposes, or for fidelity of the lore (broken psyche), or both, would’ve been able to tore his points apart like it was wet toilet paper.

Man Emperor of mankind: I’m going to summon Uriah Man emperor of mankind: Why do I hear boss music? The beating the emperor suffered from Horus was a simple pillow fight from the sheer verbal beat down Uriah delivered
He summoned a man who could match wits with as a humble priest. Except now he had 10,000 years to actually articulate the full realities of what he was trying to say then.
you know all he had to do was point out that Slaanesh is barely o ver 10000 years old and Vect is older than... them? And Uriah's arguement of them existing since the dawn of time and humanity needing them would have wen't up in smoke.
@@bornfromfire9379 This is untrue, time does not flow linearly in the warp. Slaanesh has always existed as much as it came into being when the elves murderfucked it into coalescing. Also even if time did flow linearly the core essence of what makes the powers has existed since as stated the first vestige of a thought, the first bit of slaneesh to ever exist is the first time something felt extreme pleasure. The bit of tzeentch is the first bit of hope. Because those emotions are interchangeable with the gods. Which is the point.
The emperor seeks to separate himself from his humanity... whilst the priest embraces humanity. Both are valid. The emperor fears the emotions and negative aspects that hinder humanity but it also removes the individuality that we like... Its a interesting argument
Individuality is not dependant on emotions and “the negative aspects of humanity” (to be further defined), since you are also able of, and have a certain level of proficiency at, reasoning or understanding things, neither of which are emotional or “bad”, and which you can sometimes fail at, out of which you can get some kind of individualisation & identity And actually, I think the Emperor just wants, in this anti-theistic/pro-theistic debate, *to end all forms of worship* , as in including the worship of the emotions that we inadvertently, sub-/un-consciously create without us being able to control them (e.g. “I believe in the power of loving others to save mankind.”), and so we could still be happy, but not.... actively seeking it ? Or just not praising it’s virtues out of a personal feeling that it is so good, by a certain definition of what “good” is, like what religion is. (At this point, it might be important to point out that religion is defined here as faith based, and so people might confuse their *religious* belief that their God has a reason to belief in its existence for a *rational* belief) Oh, but also, since *the act of feeling happiness* itself could directly cause a *Choas* (; p) God to emerge in the Warp, I’m pretty sure that the Emperor wants to also do smth as seemingly ludicrous as ending happiness too, thus “ending humanity” (except that I actually understand how he would do that scientifically, as opposed to poetic lot and drama queens, since he’d have to remove our dopamine and serotonin receptors/systems in our brains and such, making a completely different species), and therefore beating the purpose of his worried countermeasures in the 1st place. Again, I don’t necessarily, and I *actually DON’T* , approve of the Emperor’s practical realization of this philosophy, in the way that you put it in your comment. If I were him, I’d just work to : 1) Completely eradicate, except without the threat of violence, nor with any religious iconography, and presumably with a lot of patience and/or propaganda (& astroturfing, my personal favourite populist-ish rhetorical strategy ; p), all the faith in even the simplest and smallest of feelings or emotions that we might have; 2) Reduce our emotionality & sensitivity down to a minimum, and in such a way that we won’t feel miserable about it (which would technically be paradoxical, but you get it : it’s *actually* be brought “down to a minimum”). I’m saying this because that’s how *the Emperium* will ensure the best possible life environment for its citizens in this ideal world, where there’d be no more enemies (inside the Milky Way and its neighbouring dwarf galaxies, at least) other than Chaos : who’d then be weakened as much as possible, with an obviously different pantheon/roster of gods; thus more manageable than ever before; and, finally, since that’s also, retroactively, enhance the happiness, peace & enjoyability of those citizens. The real-world Earth doesn’t work, and its possibilities could ideally be much wide than the Emperium’s. Also, I understand it could be good or even important to have a lot of diversity in things that don’t affect Chaos in any way, like a diversity in the places humans can live in, between fields and buildings & caverns. (The debate about whether constant “happiness” is ideal or not is a different matter altogether that I'll sidetrack, and which I’ll allow the ability to reword that last part accordingly; for example, there could be “bad” actions and feelings that could be permitted in order for happiness to be more present without putting the Emperium at a dangerous risk of falling to Chaos) And if they decide not to kill the Eldar, then, again ideally, these aliens would need to have such a restrictive culture (The T’au might as well still remain and be super miserable, because I think that it’s said that they don’t affect the Warp ? If they do, and they’re just not psychically attuned - maybe not _yet_ -, then they’ll have to ideally follow the example of mankind and the Eldar)
@@nicholasleclerc1583 Your arguments about Emperor wanting to "abolishing all forms of worship" is instantaneously broken down by the fact that Immaterium in Warhammer 40K is as sensitive as the thoughts can enact Mythopoeia (make-belief things into physical or psychological realities in tangible three-dimensional senses of our human nature) in one's sober or one's unconscious (from day-dreaming to sleep) Not to mention that 30K era Great Crusade's Secular Imperium is still following religion, not as in TTS Magnus' argument of "chaos god of unbelief", but as a form of Civil Religion and State Worship with it's Emperor and his Primarchs and their Space Marines as cults of personalities, similar to how USSR' Stalinism, Maoism, Titoism and many Eastern Bloc Statist leaders' personalities works even in OUR RECENT HISTORY Go check "Religion for Breakfast" youtube channel for his in depth look of "Americanism" as cult of it's own, which later right wing and left wing secular ideologies of both wings ended up having cults of personalities, reverences of national tenets and institutions as subjects and objects of worships to fill their void after secularisation Also try to note of how long lasting these self-proclaimed post-Industrial Revolution eras' secular ideologies goes before it fall apart through either Ideological revisionism (Maoism and Stalinism being not adhering to full secularism of "marxist orthodoxy (lol) then Stalin even ended up relaxing and reopening Churches and other Religious institutions after events akin to Siege of Stalingrad happens), emergence of Religiously motivated parties (post-Yugoslavia Balkan Nationalism and Russian Nationalism) or by post-Famine/Massacre/Genocide reforms by their succeeding Religious parties of today's nationalism or even globalism counterparts (post WW2 countries in '3rd world') TL;DR: Warhammer 40K is pretty much shitty at projecting serious topics as IRL religion, spirituality, traditions, beliefs and even humanism roots in existing Faiths, at least Last Church tries it hardest to have semblance of nuances in their typical 40K unsubtlety

Dear Emperor of the primitive Mon-keigh, I am a Eldar Farseer from the craftworld Saim-Hann and I have listened to your vox-transmissions about the White Scar and the last church for entertainment. We have recently recovered one of your precious STC that contained various food recipes. While we did enjoy eating the magnificent taco on tuesdays and fridays, there is another Mon-Kiegh food that is just as popular. On behalf of my craftworld, I ask you this question: What day is the mighty Pizza to be consumed? We just wanted to know as we settled on eating the taco on Tuesdays and fridays until you Mon-Kiegh finish killing each other over the issue. Also I been asked by the Harlequins to tell your three stripers that Cegorach says "Bazinga!" PS: I bribed your cult with pictures of naked female Eldar of the various craftworlds to turn a blind eye to my letter.
[BAZINGA] Also, as an official representative of the Imperium, the Mighty Pizza, like the Holy Taco, may have its own day dedicated to, for and by your own choice (BUT still on ONE day only). The most advised is usually either on Mondays - in an effort to help your mind relax at the painful thoughts of a harsh week beginning - or Fridays - as to make you have relief from what has come. Pizza-fully yours ~Basically no one.
To the Adeptus Administratum, This is a message from a representative of the Emperor's Holy Inquisition. For reasons of security, may I inquire to...take a look at those naked female Eldar pictures that were provided to you by this Eldar Farseer? 1:22:57 The Ork’s question towards the end of the podcast, and Uriah and the Emperor’s reactions to it had me laughing so much my throat was hurting! XD
Can Uriah seriously become a reoccuring character if not a straight up standard part of the Emperor's Retinue.... cause he does such a damn good job of countering the Emp's BS that this NEEDS to be a thing , I can't wait for him to get word of the Emp's own words about the Chaos gods being both good and bad and the reason they all appear as such horrid nightmares is because humanity is being constantly dicked around and driven so hard towards dickishness that they themselves forget the noble side of themselves , and uses that to rail about how Preaching the noble intent of most religions rather than the Dogmatic practices could have been used to better the entirety of mankind as opposed to crushing them beneath the weight of the Imperium and it's own Dogmatic Beleifs
That would be the best way to get not only results, but the best results. Repressed desires and emotions are what cause obsession and excess. If one regularly sates their appetites, and before they reach "critical mass", you can easily keep control of yourself, while better understanding your true nature. If the Chaos Gods hadn't been starved near death at one point, perhaps they wouldn't try to glut themselves now in preparation for another great famine.
I went and listened to The Last Church before watching this and, I gotta say, I'm very happy I did. Not just for the context, but because it was a great story. Good voice acting from the audiobook too. In addition, I wasn't sure how this would be after listening to the audiobook, but after watching this, I personally feel this is a great followup for the story! Good work peoples, very well done.

The way you have your name written should probably be "Demons run when a good man goes to war". "Demon's Run" mean a run that belongs to a demon, and capitalization rules only apply to The first word of a sentence, proper nouns, or, if it's a title of a book or article, to every word in the phrase.
I know the reference, and I've seen the story arc in question. It's got a lot of good bits. The writing has been slipping for a long time, so I abandoned the series some time after Capaldi's run. I never did figure out just who the hell that fat blue guy was.
I also find Boy both endearing and relate-able. He really is the average child in the Imperium; probably born on Palace grounds, done the same job his entire life, and won't leave the outer walls before he dies. Sad really. He's brighter than all but Dorn give him credit for.
Apparently someone on the tv tropes page for this series wrote in the Fridge Brilliance section that Rogal Dorn's liking for the boy may be because he sees in him what the Imperial Fists value: "stoic resilience in the face of overwhelming danger, determination to do one's duty, and unshakeable loyalty to the Emperor". Also, his relationship with Boy seems to mirror the relationship he himself had with his adoptive grandfather.
This is my favourite book in the entirety of the black library line I've read. I'm rather glad to see it being covered. Due to your series and the influence of some friends I started reading black library novels starting with the Caiaphas Cain series. Eventually buying monthly or even weekly books. I've never expressed my thanks to you (and the scorn of my purse) for introducing me to the Warhammer 40k franchise. My first model started with one of the Skitarii on the release day. Now today, on the day of the pre-orders of the Codex: Adeptus Mechanicus we get one of my favourite youtubers covering my favourite book? Today is a good day.
I think that is the point? Like, the Emprah in TTS is portrayed as an incredibly flawed person. Like, that for all of his powers, intelligence, plans, and dominion, that he is a being that lacks VAST amounts of self-understanding to know he is fucking up over, and over. He has SO many difficulties coming to terms with his own mistakes, that in the Stellaris episode, he ends up repeating the same mistakes that caused the Horus Heresy to a T. I think TTS is not just about the Emprah fixing the Imperium. It's about the Emprah fixing himself as a person, as well.
Big E just skating over Magnus joining his side has my side splitting, this is great. Take note heretics: The great Man-Emperor of Mankind will forgive you.
Theory time: the "Uriah" in the video is a fusion of original Uriah and a daemon. The guy speaks almost exactly as old Uriah did but with his spiritual allegiance flipped, a fate shared with a lot of traitor astartes. He sees the Chaos gods as manifestations of mankind's sentient thoughts and emotions, but sees "virtue" instead of "sin" -- as if a daemon were just taking what Uriah already believed, and flipped black for white. This provides an interesting contrast with most IRL Chaos players, who (in the context of what they know full well is just harmless fictional fun) recognize the same thing as TTS-Uriah but revel in the sin instead of somehow believing it to be virtue
I dunno, it might depend on which Legion you play. I imagine my Word Bearers fully believe that everything they do in the name of the gods is virtuous.
that's the goal of rp, to play a role that is not yourself, I mean i'm not 5-foot dwarf who's liver can survive lethal amounts of toxins and created a cult around a severed DJ's skull for kicks
There're parts of Uriah's voicelines where you could hear an additional audio filter, as if it was not just Uriah but another voice speaking through at the same time. Your theory is probably exactly what Alfabusa intends.
HexPallett That, or Uriah has become a daemon prince or been otherwise blessed by the Powers (ex. buffing his voice). That could just as easily account for the vocal changes. Heck, if I were a Chaos God, I'd totally make Uriah a daemon prince. With all the raving loonies and insane, obviously evil crap that canon Chaos constantly revels in, it's nice to see a far more civil, level-headed side of Chaos for once, especially when it's delivered with Uriah's passion and skill. Servants like that are far more valuable and interesting than another dime-a-dozen cultist or Astartes.
You know... Uriah has a point. And its something I've often thought about. The Chaos Gods have existed in primitive, non-sentient forms sonce the dawn of sapient thought. It was only the War in Heaven that caused a horrible imbalance in the Immaterium. Without all that negativity, would they have awakened in the Middle-Ages as something good, or at least more neutral? And they do comprise good elements as well as bad. Slaanesh embodies love and joy, Khorne honesty and courage, Nurgle life and nature, Tzeentch hope and progress. If these attributes were more celebrated and focused on... Would the gods change? And is it at all possible that just as lesser daemons are sentient slivers of greater daemons and greater daemons are sentient offshoots of the gods... Could the gods in fact be sentient parts of a greater being?
Madrail: a daemon of Chaos Undivided. He was a powerful Daemon that proved troublesome to three of the loyal Primarchs. He appears in Damnation of Pythos, and Ruinstorm.
Also, since, at least as I understand it, the Immaterium is a reflection of galactic collective consciousness, that means that it is shaped (at least partially) by belief. So then, does that mean that Warp entities themselves are shaped by belief? If a supplicant believes that a Bloodthirster is in fact an avenging angel, would the Bloodthirster appear and act as such, at least in the eyes (and the mind) of said supplicant? Would the same apply to the Chaos gods themselves?
“He fixes your walls.”
I believe in the Adorbidor.
Whenever you awake, and you find that your home has been fortified without your knowledge, know that the Adorbador has graced your humble fortress.
All hail the adorbidor
I am doing home rennovations, what is Rogal's preferred method of prayer? I even have a spare hammer if he goes the sacrifice route....
Lord Adornable does not need sacrifice or prayer. He just lets you know he is proud of you by a quick ruffle of your hair. If you wish to invoke His favour to assist with your home improvements, just measure twice, cut once, and He will be pleased.
This is Nice.
What I like about this is that in the next podcast where the guest is a black templar the emperor finally realises how flawed his philosophy is
He was the last priest of Christianity to die by the Emperor's hand in canon.
Magnus is the most rational character in the series IMO, at least on the issue of the Warp. He views the Chaos Gods as they are, manifestations of all emotions, the good, the bad, and the ugly, but that the gods seem to forget the first part (well, maybe except Slaanesh). "Oh I won't disagree with you there, [Tzeentch and Nurgle] both are [being assholes]."
And btw, hating the flooging Furries is rational, change my mind.
Like son unlike father
I would like to point out that Magnus actually had his personality shattered and had his compassion destroyed. I think this side is still missing, which is why the current Magnus we have is the 'Crimson King'. Before that, he gave up his eye and let himself be shattered to save his children from the warp- as well as psionically connected to his legion so closely that they literally knew each other on a mental level.
The big worry is that, the Compassion side destroyed itself. Magnus therefore should be entirely incapable of Compassion- which he has not shown in the TTS series.
@@GusOmega I think it's in Kitten
@@chipper_dude Compassion I think is like a force, same with anger, kind of like choas. It's something grown within humans and other entities over time and it can be destroyed and created at will, but with caveats that the being in question isn't actively squashing attempts to create it.
The theory out there that I've heard most often is that his good side got funneled into Kaldo Draigo.

“ *_STOP YELLING AT MY BOY!_* “
He _actually raised his voice_ beyond a monotone to defend him.
Of course he would be a good dad. Because he is *Adorable.*
A better father then, dare i say it....the Emperor?
Keenan Carlson The son often learns from the mistakes of the father.
"What do you mean you're conflicted? You had good points." I love how Uriah is frustrated by the Custodes' inability to argue against him.
@@wyvernnemecek595 he is wrong though, have you ever been to the pleasure planet, or met a chaos marine?

@Devon Crusader I support the emperor because despite his ramblings he is correct. @@ArchivedFoxThe Emperor never wanted to rip the emotions from humanity, he was fine with it. It's religious faith he wanted to excorcise like we did during the Golden Age
@@ironduke5058 The problem with your argument is that it's widely believed that chaos gods are thriving with emotions, hence the chaos gods and the actions that feeds for their existences are essentially require collective emotions on the extreme, the Golden Age doesn't even necessarily mean that there's no religion during the age of Technology, they simply worship the Technology which can undercuts Chaos as the growing tumour of influences in The Warp
More needs to know that chaos =/= warp, the fact that The Warp was free of chaos gods after War in Heaven which happens in even way larger scale than 40th Millennium timeline (or by some argue during Medieval ages although they have to climb for influences like Drach'nyen until Slaanesh's birth empowers the other 3 chaos gods through excess), simply means that chaos was a much later byproduct and The Warp consists of different sections of warp gods of their own, just like Primarch souls being hinted to be of independent lesser yet still powerful warp gods or the Eternity Well which even Tzeentch afraid of, or Gork and Mork which any chaos god doesn't dare to disturb or even Tyrannids' Hivemind which is being existential threat to all chaos gods and the entire Chaos Undivided powers
Both Emperor of Mankind and Uriah are wrong, The Warp/Immaterium is supposed to be a vast and diverse mirror of Materium hence its malleable of any strong psychic influences, or even anti-Warp technologies akin Necron techs can stunted to starve out (if not downright erases) the influences of Chaos and The Warp as a whole
Tl;dr they can do so much more than focusing The Warp relationship with material universe beyond both Chaos and Imperial Cult by placing more nuances of competing factions that can destabilises The Warp at any point into something completely different, yet they're not dare to do it, since it could significantly alter their Tabletop game models' general designs, even Chinese gacha games have better development of universal (or even multiversal) worldbuilding compared to how currently Games Workshop have to stuck with Warhammer 40K and AoS/OW, at least they try to bring Primarchs and hints Vashtorr trying to become a new chaos god but I doubt it will launch the settings to it's ACTUAL END TIMES either

If you wish to know the truth, Chaos is but all of life's shadow parts. They are literally the collective souls parts being self-rejected.

If Chaos Uriah existed in the official canon, then there'd be a genuine argument that the force of Chaos are the actual good guys in all that insanity that is the Warhammer 40K universe.
Not really. His points in this videos can easily be back peddled to malicious intent.

Boy and Dorn are honest to God the most wholesome thing to ever come from a grimdark setting.
Uriah needs to debate Magnus. I feel like the debate between a former deamon prince and a chaos priest would be absolutely legendary
It would have also been more nuanced, since neither one says stuff like, "Chaos Must be Destroyed." Alas.
I get the feeling they'd go from debating to taking turns dunking on Big-E.
It would less the Grimdarkness of the 41st millennium if there were benign mamifestations of the Chaos Gods.
Uriah actually brings up a lot of valid points and I absolutely agree with his utter skewering of the Emperor's hypocrisy.
Gregory Peloquin though to be fair... a lot of his points could’ve been countered rather easily.
For example, his point about the primarchs rebelling against tyranny :
No, that’s not what they did.

The news of his debate with the Corpse Emperor had reached the ears of the Primordial Truthers, with some declaring that the Powers had chosen Uriah to strike a blow against the wretched Imperium. There are even calls within the Primordial Truth communities to award him the highest honour a civilian of the Primordial Truth can achieve.
The Chaos Gods watching this: *Jeez, Uriah, calm down he's already dead!*
Meanwhile, Tzeentch replaces Uriah's church with one made of dead babies and laughs at his expense as Uriah is none the wiser.
@@dragonstormx Nah, a church of dead babies is, unironically, more an Imperium thing.
Uriah should stick around he's a good counter balance to the Emperor
"My church is not made out of dead babies!" Well there's a sentence I never thought I would hear.
Is it due to _your_ church being made out of dead babies?
Certainly not! I'll have you know my church is made out of adult human beings!
But is he SURE it's not made out of dead babies? Was he involved in it's construction? Has he ever bothered to inspect the material of it's walls and/or frame?
I don't think a building made out of Dead Babies would have very good structural integrity. Not unless you compressed the bodies VERY tightly so as to form bricks of baby-meat and bones. And even then, it would probably still be rather easy to break. And very squishy.
Use stone. Way cheaper and you don't get that smell, or seepage, or the vermin, or the awkward questions. Yeah. Just use stone.
Man Emperor of mankind: I’m going to summon Uriah
Man emperor of mankind: Why do I hear boss music?
The beating the emperor suffered from Horus was a simple pillow fight from the sheer verbal beat down Uriah delivered
Agreed
@@woomod2445 this is as much stupid conjecture and delusion as uriahs bullshit
The emperor seeks to separate himself from his humanity... whilst the priest embraces humanity. Both are valid.
The emperor fears the emotions and negative aspects that hinder humanity but it also removes the individuality that we like...
Its a interesting argument
Individuality is not dependant on emotions and “the negative aspects of humanity” (to be further defined), since you are also able of, and have a certain level of proficiency at, reasoning or understanding things, neither of which are emotional or “bad”, and which you can sometimes fail at, out of which you can get some kind of individualisation & identity
And actually, I think the Emperor just wants, in this anti-theistic/pro-theistic debate, *to end all forms of worship* , as in including the worship of the emotions that we inadvertently, sub-/un-consciously create without us being able to control them (e.g. “I believe in the power of loving others to save mankind.”), and so we could still be happy, but not.... actively seeking it ? Or just not praising it’s virtues out of a personal feeling that it is so good, by a certain definition of what “good” is, like what religion is. (At this point, it might be important to point out that religion is defined here as faith based, and so people might confuse their *religious* belief that their God has a reason to belief in its existence for a *rational* belief)
Oh, but also, since *the act of feeling happiness* itself could directly cause a *Choas* (; p) God to emerge in the Warp, I’m pretty sure that the Emperor wants to also do smth as seemingly ludicrous as ending happiness too, thus “ending humanity” (except that I actually understand how he would do that scientifically, as opposed to poetic lot and drama queens, since he’d have to remove our dopamine and serotonin receptors/systems in our brains and such, making a completely different species), and therefore beating the purpose of his worried countermeasures in the 1st place.
Again, I don’t necessarily, and I *actually DON’T* , approve of the Emperor’s practical realization of this philosophy, in the way that you put it in your comment.
If I were him, I’d just work to :
1) Completely eradicate, except without the threat of violence, nor with any religious iconography, and presumably with a lot of patience and/or propaganda (& astroturfing, my personal favourite populist-ish rhetorical strategy ; p), all the faith in even the simplest and smallest of feelings or emotions that we might have;
2) Reduce our emotionality & sensitivity down to a minimum, and in such a way that we won’t feel miserable about it (which would technically be paradoxical, but you get it : it’s *actually* be brought “down to a minimum”).
(The debate about whether constant “happiness” is ideal or not is a different matter altogether that I'll sidetrack, and which I’ll allow the ability to reword that last part accordingly; for example, there could be “bad” actions and feelings that could be permitted in order for happiness to be more present without putting the Emperium at a dangerous risk of falling to Chaos)
And if they decide not to kill the Eldar, then, again ideally, these aliens would need to have such a restrictive culture
(The T’au might as well still remain and be super miserable, because I think that it’s said that they don’t affect the Warp ? If they do, and they’re just not psychically attuned - maybe not _yet_ -, then they’ll have to ideally follow the example of mankind and the Eldar)
@@nicholasleclerc1583 Your arguments about Emperor wanting to "abolishing all forms of worship" is instantaneously broken down by the fact that Immaterium in Warhammer 40K is as sensitive as the thoughts can enact Mythopoeia (make-belief things into physical or psychological realities in tangible three-dimensional senses of our human nature) in one's sober or one's unconscious (from day-dreaming to sleep)
Not to mention that 30K era Great Crusade's Secular Imperium is still following religion, not as in TTS Magnus' argument of "chaos god of unbelief", but as a form of Civil Religion and State Worship with it's Emperor and his Primarchs and their Space Marines as cults of personalities, similar to how USSR' Stalinism, Maoism, Titoism and many Eastern Bloc Statist leaders' personalities works even in OUR RECENT HISTORY
Go check "Religion for Breakfast" youtube channel for his in depth look of "Americanism" as cult of it's own, which later right wing and left wing secular ideologies of both wings ended up having cults of personalities, reverences of national tenets and institutions as subjects and objects of worships to fill their void after secularisation
Also try to note of how long lasting these self-proclaimed post-Industrial Revolution eras' secular ideologies goes before it fall apart through either Ideological revisionism (Maoism and Stalinism being not adhering to full secularism of "marxist orthodoxy (lol) then Stalin even ended up relaxing and reopening Churches and other Religious institutions after events akin to Siege of Stalingrad happens), emergence of Religiously motivated parties (post-Yugoslavia Balkan Nationalism and Russian Nationalism) or by post-Famine/Massacre/Genocide reforms by their succeeding Religious parties of today's nationalism or even globalism counterparts (post WW2 countries in '3rd world')
TL;DR: Warhammer 40K is pretty much shitty at projecting serious topics as IRL religion, spirituality, traditions, beliefs and even humanism roots in existing Faiths, at least Last Church tries it hardest to have semblance of nuances in their typical 40K unsubtlety
"priest embraces humanity. " No not humanity, he equates * insert deity here* to "the foundation of being human". That's exactly what emps called being used like a pyramid scheme and I agree with emps on that one. If you equate someone else to the foundation of every thing you are being taken advantage of. Emp fears superstition not "humanity".
Dear Emperor of the primitive Mon-keigh,
I am a Eldar Farseer from the craftworld Saim-Hann and I have listened to your vox-transmissions about the White Scar and the last church for entertainment. We have recently recovered one of your precious STC that contained various food recipes. While we did enjoy eating the magnificent taco on tuesdays and fridays, there is another Mon-Kiegh food that is just as popular. On behalf of my craftworld, I ask you this question:
What day is the mighty Pizza to be consumed?
We just wanted to know as we settled on eating the taco on Tuesdays and fridays until you Mon-Kiegh finish killing each other over the issue. Also I been asked by the Harlequins to tell your three stripers that Cegorach says "Bazinga!"
PS: I bribed your cult with pictures of naked female Eldar of the various craftworlds to turn a blind eye to my letter.
TheShadowwarrior80 Hahahahahahahahahaha!
Well if the imperium gets their heads out of their asses as well as the eldar, then we might discuss the old cultures.....
[BAZINGA]
Also, as an official representative of the Imperium, the Mighty Pizza, like the Holy Taco, may have its own day dedicated to, for and by your own choice (BUT still on ONE day only).
The most advised is usually either on Mondays - in an effort to help your mind relax at the painful thoughts of a harsh week beginning - or Fridays - as to make you have relief from what has come.
Pizza-fully yours

To the Adeptus Administratum,
This is a message from a representative of the Emperor's Holy Inquisition.
For reasons of security, may I inquire to...take a look at those naked female Eldar pictures that were provided to you by this Eldar Farseer?
This inquiry is for research and clarification of potential heresy, obviously.

Graham McNeil actually talked to you for this? Alfabusa's moving up in the Warhammer Community!
Yeah! What an honor
VindicAlpha He is the God of the Warhammer 40k communities, he has become the embodiment of /tg/.... Soon, meta will happen, and the Ultramarines will reveal the most powerful forces OUTSIDE their universes, the GW, the authors, and of course, the Fans/fanficwriters/players, who somehow led to him getting a text to speech device. Would shock the SHIT out of the Emperor, but could be the only thing that could get Lorgar to join the Imperium again, since being of the race who created their universe, have begun to align with mankind. Would shock everyone.
I've seen him carrying conversations with Aaron Dembski-Bowden over Twitter.
A lot of the "big wig" writers for 40k are pretty active in the community.
Dan's been on podcasts (at least 40k radio and probably a few others), Graham consulted with alfabusa and has been on /tg/ and Aaron has an account on Bolter and chainsword and discusses fiction with the community there, not to mention writing stories on /tg/ like "Dude, where's my landspeeder" and "what it's like".
1Okoya1 Yes.
He sort of fulfills the role that Magnus would if he was in the room.
Given that he's using basically the exact same arguments that Magnus has used prior...
The problem with that is Humanities religions were weakened with the Golden age, the age of strife and were too easy to subvert into chaos gods cults.

Good voice acting from the audiobook too. ragelion So in the days before mass Eldar BDSM, Slaanesh was already destined to be born, and therefore in existence? Must have been terribly weak.
Indeed so. Since that's the case now slaanesh may of actually had a hand in it's own birth. The warp is indeed weird.

I am a member of the Night Lords... Are you happy with our suffering? You created us to be the weapons in the shadows, your ruthless and terrible knife in the dark... but you envision a world that would never require ones such as us again... many of my brothers are fully committed to Chaos, and enjoy the slaughter and butchering of your citizens... but I can not... I remember our Primarch and how he once held his head high, proud to serve you... but he was plagued by visions, and tortured by them... I served my Father well, and took many of your enemies heads... but I... I can't stand the sight of the once Honourable Night Raptors now being nothing more than raving lunatics... by our Primarch, I am leaving my warband and heading to the nearest imperial world... I shall surrender myself upon your judgement... may your judgement be harsh and unfair upon me...

Okay, that one cracked me up! It’s sooooo true! XD
I love how despite being creepy, Rogal Dorn's liking for the boy seems to be genuine and wholesome, and that totally creeps out the Custodes.
I also find Boy both endearing and relate-able. He really is the average child in the Imperium; probably born on Palace grounds, done the same job his entire life, and won't leave the outer walls before he dies. Sad really. He's brighter than all but Dorn give him credit for.
Rogal Dorn is like Santa Claus. Just larger, more monotone, and builds much larger things.
Think of all the toys made in Adorable's Workshop!
Kimiko Hiramatsu This comment gives me PURPOSE.
Anyone else getting a real 'arguing with a dude on the internet' vibe from the Emp's side?
I think that is the point? Like, the Emprah in TTS is portrayed as an incredibly flawed person. Like, that for all of his powers, intelligence, plans, and dominion, that he is a being that lacks VAST amounts of self-understanding to know he is fucking up over, and over.
He has SO many difficulties coming to terms with his own mistakes, that in the Stellaris episode, he ends up repeating the same mistakes that caused the Horus Heresy to a T.
I think TTS is not just about the Emprah fixing the Imperium. It's about the Emprah fixing himself as a person, as well.

This video comes on a day that I will be stuck alone at work for 7 hours. I can't thank you enough for your amazing timing, Bruva
Your Word Bearers do, but I presume (hope) you the player don't
that's the goal of rp, to play a role that is not yourself, I mean i'm not 5-foot dwarf who's liver can survive lethal amounts of toxins and created a cult around a severed DJ's skull for kicks
Absolutely loved this. Awesome stuff, really entertaining to listen to!

The Timejumper Twitter poll so far says "yes" in majority.
filthy heretics...
That is likely the concept of Chaos Undivided, which daemons like Madrail serve: the whole of Chaos which the Four are fragments of.
Madrail?
Heresy
Gotta love how suprised he was on how Magnus was kidnapped and the Emperor of Mankind just stabbed tzeentch in the face lol
