      I would like to point out that Magnus actually had his personality shattered and had his compassion destroyed. I think this side is still missing, which is why the current Magnus we have is the 'Crimson King'. Before that, he gave up his eye and let himself be shattered to save his children from the warp- as well as psionically connected to his legion so closely that they literally knew each other on a mental level.
      The big worry is that, the Compassion side destroyed itself. Magnus therefore should be entirely incapable of Compassion- which he has not shown in the TTS series.

      Trolldrool Uriah’s actually the reason I love Chaos so much! He *wants* someone to be able to match him and keep up because it keeps him sharp, keeps him from growing dull and always helps to reinforce his faith as the gods grow from conflict as he does.
      He’s the reason I began to consider Chaos to be such a cool conceptual army as they’re divided yet united all at once.

      @@mynameudste He's only wrong if you use examples which were made *specifically to mess with the Imperium* .Chaos is made from everything that is sapient-the good, the bad and the ugly.
      The Pleasure Planet is an example of the ugly, whereas Chaos Space Marines are diverse. We've seen that a couple World Eaters are making to be more than mindless savages, the Alpha Legion has astartes of all loyalties, and any singular marine can change their mind based on personality as was proven by the Thousand Sons who met the Ancient of Rites.
      It's not a question of right or wrong, my friend, it's a question of nuance and preference.

    • @mynameudste
      @mynameudste 3 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      @@wyvernnemecek595 the alpha legion and thousand sons weren't corrupted like the other legions. If you take any scenario with a loyalist and a traitor, for example rylanor and thrice dammed fulgrim, the loyalist is almost always in the right and stronger willed (not succumbing to corruption)

    • @wyvernnemecek595
      @wyvernnemecek595 3 ปีที่แล้ว +83

      @@mynameudste You realize that the Emperor only jumped into the fray *during* the Age of Strife, right? He let humanity run its course in search of glory, refinement, progress and contentment before then which had allowed mankind to reach its pinnacle.
      During the Great Crusade, so named in hypocritical atheism, the Emperor gave power to a religious zealot alongside a raging berserker, an information-hungry scholar, an arrogant espionage artist and a bigoted furry who all happened to be his sons. That's what's called Nepotism, one of the most disgusting kinds of corruption known to mankind.
      Traitor Astartes were those who'd been shown an alternative, one where the Emperor wasn't in charge. As it stands, it could've worked solely on the fact that Horus had shown great aptitude for leadership as well as management of large numbers. The same goes for Guilliman, whom proved that the Emperor didn't have to be in command for success to occur. The traitor Primarchs turned for moronic reasons yet nonetheless did they fight against a tyrant who used neither logic nor reason to rule, but brute force and psychic affluence. Adding to that, their sons are the ones who matter more than they do given that the Primarchs are all but useless in the greater narrative, proven by Rylanor's impact. Rylanor was a fine example of the Imperium's best, yet he's still a singular light in an abysmal government built on failure, and nonetheless fed Slaanesh by obsessing over the attempt to murder Fulgrim.
      If it were a matter of good and bad, the Imperium would be a villain wearing a white hat and offering candy to children because of how poorly it treats its citizens, its military and its neighbors. Chaos, meanwhile, welcomes xenos and offers everyone equal opportunity towards success with the understanding that failure is rewarded with pain. Chaos, at its heart, is the right and willingness to experience what we call *emotion* ! When stripped of emotion to use only logic and reason, we become naught but cruel executioners whose only goal is victory, something which Chaos doesn't wish to see. Yes, the Great Game is a neverending feud where everyone's looking to one-up the other, yet that's the *point* ! Even as they bicker and squabble, the gods are nonetheless working towards a common goal of *continuing emotional experience* ! They're fluid, even at their most concrete do they weave and bob to suit the environment in which they're a part.

      Magnus is the most rational character in the series IMO, at least on the issue of the Warp. He views the Chaos Gods as they are, manifestations of all emotions, the good, the bad, and the ugly, but that the gods seem to forget the first part (well, maybe except Slaanesh). "Oh I won't disagree with you there, [Tzeentch and Nurgle] both are [being assholes]."
      And btw, hating the flooging Furries is rational, change my mind. Especially since they burnt his planet, committing millions of war crimes in the span of like, a week. Maybe hating them to the point of breaking loose into his true form at the very mention of them isn't rational, but wanting to take vengeance on them certainly is.

      @@ironduke5058 The problem with your argument is that it's widely believed that chaos gods are thriving with emotions, hence the chaos gods and the actions that feeds for their existences are essentially require collective emotions on the extreme, the Golden Age doesn't even necessarily mean that there's no religion during the age of Technology, they simply worship the Technology which can undercuts Chaos as the growing tumour of influences in The Warp
      More needs to know that chaos =/= warp, the fact that The Warp was free of chaos gods after War in Heaven which happens in even way larger scale than 40th Millennium timeline (or by some argue during Medieval ages although they have to climb for influences like Drach'nyen until Slaanesh's birth empowers the other 3 chaos gods through excess), simply means that chaos was a much later byproduct and The Warp consists of different sections of warp gods of their own, just like Primarch souls being hinted to be of independent lesser yet still powerful warp gods or the Eternity Well which even Tzeentch afraid of, or Gork and Mork which any chaos god doesn't dare to disturb or even Tyrannids' Hivemind which is being existential threat to all chaos gods and the entire Chaos Undivided powers
      Both Emperor of Mankind and Uriah are wrong, The Warp/Immaterium is supposed to be a vast and diverse mirror of Materium hence its malleable of any strong psychic influences, or even anti-Warp technologies akin Necron techs can stunted to starve out (if not downright erases) the influences of Chaos and The Warp as a whole
      Tl;dr they can do so much more than focusing The Warp relationship with material universe beyond both Chaos and Imperial Cult by placing more nuances of competing factions that can destabilises The Warp at any point into something completely different, yet they're not dare to do it, since it could significantly alter their Tabletop game models' general designs, even Chinese gacha games have better development of universal (or even multiversal) worldbuilding compared to how currently Games Workshop have to stuck with Warhammer 40K and AoS/OW, at least they try to bring Primarchs and hints Vashtorr trying to become a new chaos god but I doubt it will launch the settings to it's ACTUAL END TIMES either

      But Uriah is right about chaos being a reflection of human emotions, but he also left out it is such a extreme version of that emotion that the warp itself mends and corrupts the ideal principle of that emotion. The warp as a general definition is a sea of souls, and a bloated sea of souls from the war in heaven. Hence why you see more negative emotions being so powerful rather than good. Honor in battle can easily be portray as slaughter. Resilience can lead to stagnation and disease.
      He is right that you'll never squander it completely as it makes us human, but that doesn't mean that you can't nullify the corruption it causes in the warp. His logic is to turn a blind eye away and the evil that it inherently portrays, but to look at the human side or result of human emotions. Sure you can say that what big E has been doing, but his original intent is to safeguard humanity from ruin and the inconsistencies of the warp.

      @@MrWiggles00706 That's fair. But I think Uriah has a point about the Emperor actually just hating Humanity.
      I think the best way to deal with the corrupting powers of The Warp is to make the galaxy at large a better place. Obviously, that's not exactly easy to do in the current reality of the Warhammer 40K, but the Imperium's way of doing things is only making their situation worse. Even before the Emperor was seated on the golden throne.

    • @MrWiggles00706
      @MrWiggles00706 3 ปีที่แล้ว +60

      @@ShineDark to some degree of irony, the emperor is actually a bit more capable of dealing with chaos. For one his physke is much more powerful and able to manifest itself due to faith of the emperor. Example being the golden girl that saved Gulliman from Mortarion after the death guard invaded ultramarine system. He's no long human, and serves as a tool against Chaos, ironically going against his own beliefs unwillingly. The stagnation and arrogance of the imperium is damming it, but also there is a breath of surgence and resilience with new technology and innovation when Gulliman was brought back from death's door. Its a hard road ahead for sure, but right now it's a lot of slow changes due to how fracture the imperium is. It's changing, but at a reasonable slow steady pace.

You can just feel big E chew on almost every single word that comes out of him, Rogal becoming tense and trying to defend his father the best he can while he himself is unsure. The silence of the custodians while they themselves barely breath a word because they're scared of angering big E. That and just how Uriah treats the rest of the cast. He doesn't hate the people who serve the emperor, hell he helped the custodians with some of the arguments and gave credit were it was due. The only person he has a grip with was big E and it's because of his hypocrisy and ignorance.

    The emperor seeks to separate himself from his humanity... whilst the priest embraces humanity. Both are valid.

    Its a interesting argument

    • @nicholasleclerc1583
      @nicholasleclerc1583 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Individuality is not dependant on emotions and “the negative aspects of humanity” (to be further defined), since you are also able of, and have a certain level of proficiency at, reasoning or understanding things, neither of which are emotional or “bad”, and which you can sometimes fail at, out of which you can get some kind of individualisation & identity
      And actually, I think the Emperor just wants, in this anti-theistic/pro-theistic debate, *to end all forms of worship* , as in including the worship of the emotions that we inadvertently, sub-/un-consciously create without us being able to control them (e.g. “I believe in the power of loving others to save mankind.”), and so we could still be happy, but not.... actively seeking it ? Or just not praising it’s virtues out of a personal feeling that it is so good, by a certain definition of what “good” is, like what religion is. (At this point, it might be important to point out that religion is defined here as faith based, and so people might confuse their *religious* belief that their God has a reason to belief in its existence for a *rational* belief)
      Oh, but also, since *the act of feeling happiness* itself could directly cause a *Choas* (; p) God to emerge in the Warp, I’m pretty sure that the Emperor wants to also do smth as seemingly ludicrous as ending happiness too, thus “ending humanity” (except that I actually understand how he would do that scientifically, as opposed to poetic lot and drama queens, since he’d have to remove our dopamine and serotonin receptors/systems in our brains and such, making a completely different species), and therefore beating the purpose of his worried countermeasures in the 1st place.
      Again, I don’t necessarily, and I *actually DON’T* , approve of the Emperor’s practical realization of this philosophy, in the way that you put it in your comment.
      If I were him, I’d just work to :
      1) Completely eradicate, except without the threat of violence, nor with any religious iconography, and presumably with a lot of patience and/or propaganda (& astroturfing, my personal favourite populist-ish rhetorical strategy ; p), all the faith in even the simplest and smallest of feelings or emotions that we might have;
      2) Reduce our emotionality & sensitivity down to a minimum, and in such a way that we won’t feel miserable about it (which would technically be paradoxical, but you get it : it’s *actually* be brought “down to a minimum”).
      I’m saying this because that’s how *the Emperium* will ensure the best possible life environment for its citizens in this ideal world, where there’d be no more enemies (inside the Milky Way and its neighbouring dwarf galaxies, at least) other than Chaos : who’d then be weakened as much as possible, with an obviously different pantheon/roster of gods; thus more manageable than ever before; and, finally, since that’s also, retroactively, enhance the happiness, peace & enjoyability of those citizens.
      The real-world Earth doesn’t work, and its possibilities could ideally be much wide than the Emperium’s. Also, I understand it could be good or even important to have a lot of diversity in things that don’t affect Chaos in any way, like a diversity in the places humans can live in, between fields and buildings & caverns.
      (The debate about whether constant “happiness” is ideal or not is a different matter altogether that I'll sidetrack, and which I’ll allow the ability to reword that last part accordingly; for example, there could be “bad” actions and feelings that could be permitted in order for happiness to be more present without putting the Emperium at a dangerous risk of falling to Chaos)
      And if they decide not to kill the Eldar, then, again ideally, these aliens would need to have such a restrictive culture
      (The T’au might as well still remain and be super miserable, because I think that it’s said that they don’t affect the Warp ? If they do, and they’re just not psychically attuned - maybe not _yet_ -, then they’ll have to ideally follow the example of mankind and the Eldar)

    • @ohamatchhams
      @ohamatchhams 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nicholasleclerc1583 Your arguments about Emperor wanting to "abolishing all forms of worship" is instantaneously broken down by the fact that Immaterium in Warhammer 40K is as sensitive as the thoughts can enact Mythopoeia (make-belief things into physical or psychological realities in tangible three-dimensional senses of our human nature) in one's sober or one's unconscious (from day-dreaming to sleep)
      Not to mention that 30K era Great Crusade's Secular Imperium is still following religion, not as in TTS Magnus' argument of "chaos god of unbelief", but as a form of Civil Religion and State Worship with it's Emperor and his Primarchs and their Space Marines as cults of personalities, similar to how USSR' Stalinism, Maoism, Titoism and many Eastern Bloc Statist leaders' personalities works even in OUR RECENT HISTORY
      Go check "Religion for Breakfast" youtube channel for his in depth look of "Americanism" as cult of it's own, which later right wing and left wing secular ideologies of both wings ended up having cults of personalities, reverences of national tenets and institutions as subjects and objects of worships to fill their void after secularisation
      Also try to note of how long lasting these self-proclaimed post-Industrial Revolution eras' secular ideologies goes before it fall apart through either Ideological revisionism (Maoism and Stalinism being not adhering to full secularism of "marxist orthodoxy (lol) then Stalin even ended up relaxing and reopening Churches and other Religious institutions after events akin to Siege of Stalingrad happens), emergence of Religiously motivated parties (post-Yugoslavia Balkan Nationalism and Russian Nationalism) or by post-Famine/Massacre/Genocide reforms by their succeeding Religious parties of today's nationalism or even globalism counterparts (post WW2 countries in '3rd world')
      TL;DR: Warhammer 40K is pretty much shitty at projecting serious topics as IRL religion, spirituality, traditions, beliefs and even humanism roots in existing Faiths, at least Last Church tries it hardest to have semblance of nuances in their typical 40K unsubtlety

    Question for the future Q&A Sessions:
    Oh grossly incandescent and glorious Emperor,
    When you say you want Terra (effectively The globe-straddling temple that is Terra, which is currently dedicated to the worship of You) converted to the “Galactic establishment of the new Imperial Truth and worship of mankind as a whole?”
    ...What does that mean exactly?
    Do you...just want a bunch of of statues of the human form and examples of science and reasoning?
    How might you want these hive sized cathedrals put to better use?
    I was hoping to visit Terra sometime in the next few centuries (if time and warp storms/ork waaghs/Tyranid swarms/work allows), and I’m really hoping they will be repurposed according to your will, but I’m not sure what that would even look like.
    Note: I have a rather obsessive need for all things to be ordered as intended and prepared to specifications as planned. I want to make sure Terra and it’s temples are up to code when I visit. If you could provide some simple outline of this intended repurposing, it would ease my troubled mind of how Terra ‘should’ look if and when I arrive to inspect it.

Even though we know Big E would not change his mind, the way it was written did not truly feel like they a debate, like they did not construct Uriah's dialogue with equal care or had the characters point out flaws in their own arguments until it became so gray that Big E would leave out of sheer argument, leaving who was right as an ambiguous point. NOOOOO!
      I can understand joining every other faction BUT chaos even on its worst day.
      You want to join the imperium? Maybe you understand the mash of circumstances that lead to it becoming the mess that is today and hope you can somehow fix this hot mess. Or maybe you, as a human, understand or believe that such harsh actions had to be taken, and continue to have to be, to ensure humanity's existence.
      You want to join the eldar? Maybe you feel bad for their ever degrading statevand being a foot inside death's door. Or think they're not nearly as bad as anyone else currently living in the galaxy, if a big smug
      You want to join the necrons? Maybe you feel bad for their initial existence being actual pain and how they were screwed over by the old ones refusing to aid them, then by the c'tan eating their souls. Maybe you deserve they genuinely deserve to be the top dogs in the galaxy for all the sh*t they went through.
      You want to join the orkz? They're the only faction in the galaxy legitimately having any kind of fun. They don't care for much else besides a good fight. No thoughts, head empty and maybe you vibe with that.
      The dark eldar? Maaaaaaaybe you accept the fact that they have to be as depraved as they are, otherwise their souls are forfeit.
      The tyranids? They are neither good nor evil. The tyranids are only hungry. Can't really have any thoughts or opinion (other than freakin scary) about a faction whose sole motivation for wanting to eat the galaxy is because they're hungry, be they good or bad.
      Tau? The Tau on their worst day are nowhere evil as any of the other factions when on their best behaviour, so maybe you just really want to play the closest to actual good guys or least of evil as you can have in his forsaken galaxy.
      Or maybe you care for none of that and just think they look cool.
      But chaos? CHAOS? Chaos is the only faction that's actively evil and corrupting without any good, tragic or understandable reason or motivation. It's a by product of all the effed up sheit that's been happening in the entire galaxy. It's evil. Straight up evil. And it's not even aesthetically pleasing evil. There's absolutely no good reason to even want to join, or play, effing chaos. They're the furthest from good guys as you can get
