    I tried on both the Bondi and the Clifton and I felt that the Clifton had a really high and stiff arch. I have pretty flat feet so maybe it’s just me. I didn’t notice the arches digging into me when I tried the Bondi.

    • @RunLikeHeller
      @RunLikeHeller  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s interesting. I don’t experience that feeling in the Clifton but maybe the Bondi is a little wider and more spacious so you don’t feel it as much there?

    Friend of mine swears by this shoe. We have done a few ultras together and she will always pull this out of the drop bag at mile 50 ish to just baby the legs for those long night miles when form is starting to drop. Bit too much stack height for me and still love the Cliftons and now Rincons for my road ultras.

  • @philipbendiksen4814
    @philipbendiksen4814 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Would love to see a comparison with the Saucony Triumph (17 or 18). Because I bought this shoe to have as a recovery shoe, with a lot of cushion, but I do feel (opposite to you) like i'm running on quicksand, there is almost no responsiveness.... just my opinion unfortunately! Works good at really low paces but as soon as I pick up the pace to like 5:10 min/km (8:20 miles) it only works for a couple of kilometers.

    • @RunLikeHeller
      @RunLikeHeller  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Everyone’s experience is different! My recovery pace is slower than 8:20 so that could be why I’m not experiencing this. Though like I said I did take it out on a day where I was racing the sunset and it wasn’t too bad! Going about 8 min pace

  • @applerunner1184
    @applerunner1184 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice review and I agree with your conclusions. I am on the wrong side of 50, 195lbs and 6ft. I have had issues with achilles, pronation and ankles over the years. I normally wear high stack stability shoes (860, Adrenaline, Asics GT etc). Historically could not wear Hokas due to low drop. My feet do not like soft/squishy shoes. I bought the Bondi 7 a few days ago and I love them! Very stable due to wide platform. Lots of midsole but is not soft or squishy. Like you said, the midsole has some bounce due to the firmness/rocker. I am running faster now than I have for a long time. Ride is similar to the NB MORE Trail v1 (which I liked, but had to return due to fit/comfort issues with the lockdown). They don't have the best looks, but hey, If I can run fast and don't have sore feet/ankles then "who cares"! Would be interested in your thoughts on other shoes which have a similar feel...

    • @RunLikeHeller
      @RunLikeHeller  3 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @adamsleath
    @adamsleath 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    if a speed shoe is the Ferrari. the bondi is the 4wd (although not a trail shoe...). however, it is lighter than it looks. hoka's firm but cushy cush is quite unique for me when compared to a whole range of other shoes' midsoles. it is my reliable distance/comfort/support/shielded from the road/impacts shoe. certainly not what i'd call nimble. i have other shoes for nimblenesses.

    • @RunLikeHeller
      @RunLikeHeller  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thank you!!! Hokas are usually muuuuch softer depending on the model you get. This one is on the denser/stiffer side of the spectrum. If you are used to the traditional feeling of ASICS or Saucony, it might be a bit of a shock at first. But I do think Hokas are the best shoe when it comes to max cush.

    • @doom4067

    I bought the Bondi 7 yesterday and I returned it today. After reading, reviewing and watching so many youtube vids on how cushiony, supportive the shoes are, and that its Hoka's most cushioned best seller.. I was so disappointed and in pain after wearing it for 10hrs straight at work. It felt like the worse shoes ever at a hefty price of $150. There was no cushiony feel, nor pillowy, marshmallow like bounce and support. it was more like hard rock platform that caused me so much pain from toes all the way to my knees. Thankfully, i had purchased it from Rei and they gave me a full refund. My first Hoka and sadly it will be my last.

I was walking about 3 miles, 2 or 3 days a week. Want to get back into walking again but want a really supportive soft plushy shoe that doesn’t pinch or rub. I like a wide toe box area for my bunions and hammertoes, but I need a slim width through the middle and my heel so I don’t walk out of shoe. I’m 5’2” 115 lbs. @@RunLikeHeller Thought to give you a hard time only because you raved about Triumph 17 earlier this year - LOL. However, based on that review, I did purchase a pair of Triumph 17 (and not 18 as you recommended). Saucony.com is selling at a substantial discount and so I ended up getting a pair. Ran twice so far with the 17's and liking them so far. Thanks for your review and recommendation. My only complaint is that the outer sole is a bit slippery when the road is wet. I live in Portland, Oregon and we get wet weather here this time of the year. But other than that, great comfy shoes....Enjoying Saucony products this year, Endorphin Shift and Speed and now the Triumph 17. Take care and stay safe.
