Sainsbury's is my local supermarket. I live in Throckley, Newcastle upon Tyne. The staff there are the friendliest and most helpful shop workers I've ever come across.
If it serves 4, thats not actually that bad, 350g of meat a person is a decent portion as you could serve it with chips, boiled potatoes etc and get a sizable dinner. I think id buy it just for myself, and make 3 seperate dinners seeing as its packed seperately.
@@christianbuczko1481 Except its not. He weighed it at 1000g after cooking, including the bones. You can probably deduct another 50g to 100g for bones. You are getting 900 to 950g so between four that's only 230 grams each. Its pretty much decent for two but not four. So if for two that's £8 each. Still quite expensive for the amount you get.
Would have that between 2 people so £8 each … same as a nice size steak so could live with that. Not something most people would buy every week but as a treat not too shabby imo.
I actually had beef short rib last night. Homemade, eight pieces at about 3 and a 1/2 " Square and 2" deep, £11. Bones for stock were free from the same butcher, garlic ,celery, ginger, etc, about a pound and a £6 bottle of red; of which half was used. Runner beans and mash. This actually did feed four people, 😁. Again, the prices these days are extortionate, beef short rib is meant to be a cheap cut, hence the long cooking time. Thanks Gaz 😊. Like deployed 👍
I would like to thank you for doing these reviews of food whether it be cheap or expensive. As someone living on just a pension it pays to shop around but you save me time and money doing these reviews. Thanks again 👍. You gained a subscriber.
Since the meat portions are wrapped separately, and depending upon shelf life, it should be possible to get three different meals out of this, cooking one meat portion per day (and saving enough sauce to last until the final portion). Add some potatoes and some nice greens each time.
Maybe food here is expensive but I don’t think that’s overly expensive . It’s all meat. You get something with 60% of chicken in a chicken pie and it’s say £5. I think it’s comparable. Here you are getting slow cooked meat 6hrs that costs to produce. So one portion is £8. How much for regurgitated Big Mac. Not a family meal but for a couple as a treat it’s acceptable as it’s clearly yummy.
The weight includes the jouces you poured off. Such meals are intended to be about 1/3 to 1/4 of your daily calories, you would normally have carbs with a meal.
Top tip become a regular customer to your local butcher and they will look after you unlike supermarkets do, I've used my local butcher for over 20 years now and we have became friends,so we do occasionally meet up for a drink or two,or should I say we meat up for a drink or two 😂
Hi Gareth, just been to Sainsburys to get one. They are now selling for £14 or £9.33p if you have a nectar card. Can't wait to try ours and yours looked scrummy.
Great to hear your appreciation of David's excellent gift again 👍Looks very nice but even split over 3 meals It's still too expensive for me. Minted lamb shanks all the way for me 😛
Bought a Ninja woodfire back in November, for half the price of what it's going for now. Pricey outlay, initially, but it does stuff like this from scratch.
I do my weekly shop at aldi in kendal for some of the bargains then across to sainsburys for the finer things like the three trolly wide isles and their fresh bread.
Only £13 and you got curry sauce. You were lucky. I live in Cornwall where we must have the country's most expensive fish and chips, my nearest is £17 just for a regular fish and chips. When I go to London, I can't believe how cheap take aways are. So on that basis I agree with you, I might get some today and put them on the barbie.
If only Sainsbury's produced half that pack, then I might consider it. For a family treat it's not too bad divided between four. One would likely serve potatoes and other vegetables, or in a BBQ situation there would be salads and coleslaw to go with.
By the time you add 2 or 3 side salad dishes and lettuce that would be more than enough to eat without worrying about cholesterol or obesity. Perfect portion for 4 people. At the end of the day a bbq is usually a treat so the cost is in proportion.
Great review Gaz you would expect the tray to be full for 4 people and 4 ribs at least it tasted nice which is always a plus and keep up with your great tasting 👍👍
Great review Gaz, it probably does serve 4 if you were to add sides eg mash, chips, rice or veg...looks very tasty though i must say, i'll have to pop down to Sainsburys and get this in time for the bbq weather!
I saw this in Sainsbury’s this we and took a double take! I don’t think it’s enough for 4 people! And to be honest I wasn’t prepared to pay £16 for it. Good review as always. 😃👍
The BBQ Beef Platter certainly looks good and by Gareth's taste reaction afterwards, he appeared to give it a strong thumbs up; but £16 is in my opinion is out of reach for many people, especially those who are on a tight budget. I wouldn't dream of buying this food product, but as a one off treat for sharing with another person, then I can almost justify it's expensive price tag. You could serve 4 people with the amount of beef you get from the platter but they'll be very small portions, the box should really say: Serves 2-3 because that is a more realistic figure.
"smoked" on food packaging means misted (spray painted) with liquid smoke, good review of an overpriced product. An ideal product for the casual BBQ enthusiast (we're in that season now), go to your butchers and ask for £8 of brisket and £8 of beef short ribs 😉.
Sainsbury's food is notoriously expensive, *BUT* the quality is well worth the price! Check out some of their Premium sirloin and fillet - dear but Oh, SO, Yummy 😄 As I have said many times, I don't mind paying the expensive money as long as the quality is superb. Keep up the good work Gareth 👍
It'd have to be for special occasions only I'm afraid, like royal visits or meeting an alien ambassador or similar. As delicious as it looked £16 is a bit rich for me. Shame really, I love BBQ anything really. Perhaps they ought to do half the size for £8.
Interested to see how people on a budget eating habits will be affected by the government changes coming up. I think some people will have to learn to cook for themselves to save the extra cash.
With the plastic wrappers I use I one test, if it crispy it doesn't go in the recycle bin, soft or hard does. Half decent meat especially slow cooked it opens your eyes to the normal rubbish supermarkets sell us. Sixteen quid mind that's got to be a Christmas one.
