We see so many fake celebrities but Gareth never tries to cover up when he’s made a mistake. That’s the mark of the man. Respect. I love he gives authentic reviews
I've had the Lidl, Aldi and Asda versions of this and they're all really good. I cook and shred mine on a preheated pizza stone and just follow the timings. It's delicious with some spring onion strands and cucumber. It'll stretch to two portions, just about. A nice Friday night treat for a night in, especially if there's a film after with a sweet at half time.
I love crispy duck and that looked delicious. I can tell it was. You obviously enjoyed it. Must get some after seeing you eat it. I NEVER miss any of your reviews. Always entertaining.
If you want to help with the dryness, pour all the drippings back over the meat before shredding it.... Looks like there wasnt a lot with this one but that bit of extra hot duck fat will make a difference. No better slippage juice than duck fat.
Farmfoods do an off the bone one for about £4 with the same pancakes and hoisin sauce. Serves two of us very adequately and is cheaper than the brands you have tried.
Ive purchased this recently from Aldi and I must say I was really surprised. Plenty of meat to make lots of pancakes. I was surprised at what you get for the price. Very impressed!
Have had this and loved it. However it is a meal for one. Spread the sauce on the pancake. Take skin off cucumber and put more on. The juice then spreads more and counteracts the dryness of the duck. Use any onions you like but very thinly cut. Lovely Jubbily as we used to say in Nelson Mandela towers
Lovely treat. Did fried rice for myself tonight but remembered the spring onions. That would be a tasty dish there for the whole family Gaz. Better buy two though! 🙏🇦🇺
Evening Gareth thank you for the vlog on the crispy duck, like a crispy duck. good price! Know the vlog was a year ago but really enjoyed it. I am newish to your vlogs so catching up with all of them which I really enjoy thank you. Glad you enjoyed the duck hope you dont get webbed feet!
Hi gaz il definately give that a try. I saw the gressingham in asda the other day and it was eight quid, and sourced from thailand!!!!. Im totally up for thr one you reviewed today. Top man all the best . Steve. 👍
Since you had the issue with the weight of steaks in one of your steak reviews I have been weighing the meat products that I buy from Aldi and shock horror 70% of them were under the stated weight by between 7% and 20%. The weight differences were not random, for example all the minced beef was 9% under weight, bacon 11% underweight and so on. I have complained to Aldi customer service and their response was the weight on the packaging is only a guide and does not represent what you may get. Obviously this is a breach of trading standards and when I pointed this out to Aldi they stated that they would refund all the underweight products. So worth checking the weights when you buy them as this seems a deliberate act by the supermarkets.
I bet a lot of people are going to buy a pack after watching this happy response 😁. Just to say Make sure it’s cooked well and that it’s in date or you may end up having to see the quack
Happy bank holiday weekend Gareth and all! Used to love eating duck until the day I was given an egg to incubate in my chicken incubator and a few weeks later out popped, yes you’ve guessed it, a tiny duckling that immediately thought I was Dad (well, hopefully Dad and not Mum 😂). Of course I imaginatively christened it Donald and it turned out to be a girl 🤦🏻♂️😂. Never been able to eat duck since, but damn, watching you review this reminded me how delicious it is, and I certainly won’t forget it! Have a great weekend pal and hope you get to take a day off the channel to spend some well deserved time with your family! 👍☀️
quarrr nothing beats a lovely bit of duck, its my personal favorite from my local chinese. quick tip i like to go for the double shot and use two of the pancakes in one wrap. its absolutely exploding with the flavours especially when you pack it with plenty of duck with the bits and bobs 😋i also recommend going in for some dimsums i would love to see your take on them! try it out, gareth👍
One of the tastiest meals ever, if you want to combat the dryness, I do mine in the air fryer on the bake setting which has a slower fan speed at 180c then when almost cooked turn it up to 200c, it comes out lovely and crispy with a nice moist inside. Thanks for all your great videos Gareth.
A well deserved treat u had there Looks Good , I dont have duck very often in fact very rarely but have always considered it to be a dry meat. Improvisation in the kitchen works for me too
You really made my mouth start to water, when you rolled up the pancake with all the ingredients. You might not be a chef, but you seem pretty goo at handling that cooks inside - nice & sharp unit looks too. Do people realise that working with good sharp knives in the kitchen is safer than using half blunt ones?
Gaz, spring onions are super easy to grow from the scraps of shop bought ones. Put the rooty ends in water in a shallow dish and wait for them to sprout, then put them in compost. Free food!
Never forget first time I had a crispy duck half in a Chinese restaurant they asked me would I like it shredded, I said yes please and I watched the girl serving my table come over and shred it with a table knife and fork. Best I've ever had. Best served like pulled pork.
Ooooo I love crispy duck. Wish I had an oven and now I’m craving it. I like to make a dipping sauce for dipping anything Chinese with light soy sauce, a chopped up chilli, some chopped spring onion and a chopped clove of garlic. leave it to fester in the fridge for an hour and man. Heaven ❤ (my fave soy sauce is Lee Kum Kee premium light soy sauce and can be found in the world foods bit of the supermarket)
I have these quite a lot, I get the Gressingham one which is normally over £8 now, but last week I got it for £6.25. I do actually cut the meat in half before cooking it then I have two meals out of it. I find one spring onion per half is all you need finely sliced. Yeah the sauce really makes this dish top notch.
That looked really good quality Gareth and I don't think it was bad for the money. With getting 12 pancakes I think you could have put a bit less meat in yours. If you had some chips it would quite easily serve two. I would buy it. I will have to look in Lidl to see if they do it.
Duck with spring onion, carrot and cucumber and the sauce is a banger. I do like the ones from farmfood the sauce is thick and the duck is bland but juicy. Costco do a nice flavoure duck but the sauce is watery.
Del-boy "What's duck in French?" Rodney "It's canard." Del-boy "You can say that again, Rodney." We tend to spread the hoisin all over the pancake and line the duck, cucumber and spring onions along it then roll it all up and bung it in! Well, a bit at a time. Haven't had it for a while now. Remember Ken Hom doing duck on TV and he had a pump to split the skin off the meat before cooking.
I don't think I've heard that joke before or can't remember it! I saw chinese ducks on tv getting pumped up like balloons, under the skin to make the skin crispy and glassy.
That looks delicious. Can you try the Asda frozen Cheese and vegetable pies. I had one tonight and thought it was a bit disappointing bit underfilled. But that could have just been a blip. I'd like to see what you think.
I think I'll have to 'Duck Out' and buy me a Hoisin Duck Pancake Pack. I'm with you Gareth, that duck was looking so tempting to eat straight off the rack. Cheers mate 👍🤤😀
In China they use garlic greens (the stuff that grows out of the top of over-ripe garlic bulbs) instead of spring onions in this. It's pungent and delicious. BTW, spoon and smooth the hoi sin sauce on the pancake first.
I think this would make a nice starter for 4 people if you then followed up with Chinese or SE Asian main course of rice and a fish/chicken/beef/tofu or veg dish
Had this before, and for the money (certainly compared to many takeaways) you get a lot of meat and pancakes, and the taste is just as good, if not better. I still haven't bettered the crispy duck we had at a restaurant in China Town in London the other year, but that was several times the price for several times less meat! lol
Hi there, another great video like always do you enjoy watching your channel just to say I do like plum duck. This does look okay I haven’t seen this yet but I haven’t had chance to have a look for. Keep up the good work like always I do enjoy watching your channel.
It's so good to see you enjoy the food you try. Been in Australia for 50 years. Hope you have a great day.
Duck is wonderful and pretty healthy, maybe a bit pricey for many mind but roast duck one of those things you have to try at least once in your life. As a treat especially with todays prices of food I don't think £6 for two people is outrageous, a few fries to dip in the sauce job done.
Hi Gareth seen these on shelf and always um and ar will definitely try now looked delish ,not sure i can remember how to use conventional oven 😅 you really enjoyed that by look on 😅your face said .Hugs from Shropshire

I used to work for cherry Valley, a huge Duck farm in Lincolnshire, I could buy a whole duck for 50p !!! Glad you enjoyed yours, try sweet chilli sauce cucumber and pineapple chunks with your pancakes, its SO tasty

I've always found duck dry. Got a craving for it when I was pregnant so I've eaten plenty.

If you like duck, Farmfoods do a very nice duck with either a hoisin sauce or an orange sauce. I've only tried the orange but it was really tasty.
Personally I'd like to see the raw weight of everything you buy. Remember hoe low the ribeye weight was. Pack weights are often quite low.
I think this would make a nice starter for 4 people if you then followed up with Chinese or SE Asian main course of rice and a fish/chicken/beef/tofu or veg dish
