I will never forget this game it was not only against boston in fenway and David Cone pitched but he was wearing a red sox uniform which will always be weird but it was 9 days before September 11th

My favorite player growing up. Such a good sport and class act all the way.

I was at this game. It was the only time I ever cheered for the Yankees. I always liked Mussina and was totally gutted when Everett got the single. Oddly enough I was at a game earlier in the season when Hideo Nomo was one hit away from a perfect game against the Blue Jays.

Carl Everett, a one time Yankees #1 draft pick in 1990.

Watched as a Red Sox fan, he had me partially rooting for him, but I was also glad he didn't get it against my team. He was absolutely incredible that night.

I always loved Mike Mussina he was a great competitor had one of the great minds in the game.He was a great pitcher in the steroid era and nobody can accuse him of using steroids he was clean as a white sheet of paper in my opinion he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.Who knows what his numbers would’ve been like had he pitched in another era

moose’d pitched in steroid era. he did not face the juiced players.. could have achieved 300 wins in career. seriously.

What’s more incredible is his ability to seamlessly adjust the drop in velocity as he aged. I remember him not even touching 90 during the final few seasons when he was a yankee, yet he was making hitters whif at his fastball. One of the most brilliant pitcher I’ve ever watched along with Pettitte! With the way the league is going, it’s harder than ever to watch fineness pitching……

I'm so glad Carl broke up the perfect game. My Red Sox experienced a bad year. This absolutely helped! Thank you, Carl!

Sadly (although maybe “sadly” isn’t the right word), “almost perfect” pretty well defines Mike Mussina’s career - legendary, and a hair away from perfect. Maybe perfectly imperfect.

if he wanted to reach 300 winning in his career, he could be it. but moose chose retirement. besides last season ..not bad. it’s still amazin.

I was there that night. I still say Cone outpitched him. That Red Sox lineup was hot garbage.
