    All due respect to the rest, being a baseball purist of 65yrs, when I saw this video Mike Schmidt instantly came to mind.

    1st of all, some of these guys played other places, besides 3rd base ! And think Ron Santo got the short stick, yet again, maybe if he waits like he did for his HOF placement, he'll get his dues someday ?

    Mike Schmidt is the BEST third baseman of ALL TIME!! He is a much better fielder than George Brett, and maybe better hitter also.

    • @madbo726
      @madbo726 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally disagree. Brett played three more seasons and has less errors. 1000 more hits than Schmidt. 38 points higher career batting average. Schmidt struck out more than twice as Brett. How is he better all around please explain?

      Well, both Brett and Schmidt are very best of all time!! They take baseball very seriously!!

    Mathews excelled in the greatest ML of all-time which was the post-integration & pre-expansion NL of 1954-61. He is the only player in MLB history to hit at least 20 HRs in each of his 1st 14 seasons & only 3B to make 100+ POs in each of his 1st 15 seasons. He was a great team player (fewer than 10 GiDPs his 1st 9 seasons) & leader as well as tough as nails (just ask Drysdale & F.Robinson). He was a better hitter than Schmidt who finished with MORE SO THAN HITS in 3 seasons & despite playing 20 years earlier still had a higher career F% than Schmidt. Needless to say, in this opinion still the greatest 3rd baseman of all-time. Santo & Baker are also still top 5 & the 2 best 2-way players.

    Aramis Ramirez is one of the most underrated third basemen in baseball. His stats compare favorably to several of the players you have listed.

    George Brett will tell you Schmidt is the best ever. MLB's greatest team ever has him starting at 3rd. Mike Schmidt's total WAR 106.8. George Brett total WAR 88.6.

    A list without Ron Santo is a joke. He was top 5 by the metrics, and he played in the “dead ball” era of the 1960’s.

    Brett has less total errors than Schmidt in 3 more seasons 292 Brett 328 Schmidt. SURPRISE!! Schmidt does have more home runs but Brett has nearly 1000 more hits than Schmidt. Brett has more RBIs than Schmidt. Brett also has a 38 point higher CAREER batting average. Not to mention his playoff resume.

    • @stevenhattrick9495
      @stevenhattrick9495 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It took Brett 2,000 mare at bats to get 1 more RBI. Errors are only one piece of a defense assessment. Schmidt had more range and got to way more balls. This is why Schmidt has a big advantage in dWAR over Brett 18.4 to 2.2. Yes Brett more hits better batting average, but Schmidt leads in OBP, slugging, OPS.

    • @tomhanrahan4157
      @tomhanrahan4157 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      More to defense than errors. schmidt was waaaay better.
      Batting avg? Schmidt reached base more.
      Produced more runs. Runs win games. More offense and much more defense. It ain't close.
      Oh and 3 time MVP.

  • @BBBYpsi
    @BBBYpsi 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would put Mike Schmidt number one all-time 10 time Gold Glove winner plus the home runs and batting average make him the greatest all-around third baseman ever I also would take Darrell Evans out of there since he played a lot of games at first base and many games as a DH and put George Kell in there instead

    Brooks was at least number 2. Nettles was amazing, as was Clete Boyer. And you might look up the name Jimmy Collins. If this is really “all time” you’ve got to include him and Pie Traynor on your list. The truth is no one really knows. Number one of all those I’ve seen since 1953 was Mike Schmidt hands down. He did it all. George Brett? Great player. A winner, but maybe not even in the top 5. Eddie Mathews was not a great fielder. In fact he was maybe average to good, but not great. But he was an amazing power hitter.

    • @stevenhattrick9495
      @stevenhattrick9495 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Mathew’s is #1 all time in oWAR, so is likely second best overall behind Schmidt. Nettles not top ten, and George Brett is without a doubt top 4. Hard to put Brooks Robinson higher than 6th. Best defender of all time, hitting not as strong overall. Santo, Rolen, Molitor should be in the top ten as well.

  • @supershows8757
    @supershows8757 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jameslarson6684 he played short stop for 10 years and he played third base for 10 years and the last two years of his career he was a DH. Don't know what you're talking about. Also his best season was as a third baseman in 2007.

      Schmidt is so much better than Brett. Get over it.

    • @stevenhattrick9495
      @stevenhattrick9495 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      True, but Schmidt also has 500 more walks in 2,000 fewer at bats. Such that Brett’s BA was 40 points higher but Schmidt still leads in OBP.

    • @robertd.7060
      @robertd.7060 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For his low BA, I'm guessing ? A.L All -time HR king for his Po's & was a real good fielder, should have won a couple more Gold gloves I think ?

    • @stevenhattrick9495
      @stevenhattrick9495 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      He wasn’t at a hall of fame level. His career WAR is outside the top ten, WAR7 is 16th, WAR/162 is 4.1 whereas hall of Famers are 5 or above. None of BA, OBP, SLG, OPS, or OPS+ are as good as the other hall of fame third basemen. He also had 1,500 more plate appearances than many contemporaries, so took longer to reach HR and RBI totals. He is 5th all time in defensive WAR, so he stands out in some areas, but not enough.

    @thekingcobra63 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This list is really off. You got Schmidt right at 2, Brooks Robinson is no doubt #1, and Boggs, Brett, and Chipper Jones should be there, while Gaetti, Beltre, and Evans would not be ahead of Ron Santo, Frank Baker, or even Ken Boyer, none of who were even on the list. Where is Pie Traynor? I suppose if you are only going for TV era lists, you may have something, otherwise it shows a total lack of baseball knowledge.
