Just to clarify some stuff about the Tibia story, the LAN house wasn't actual the house, was a place with a lot of PC's that people pay per hour to use the internet or a fixed amount to stay as long as they wanted using the computers, like an internet cafe, was a public place for people to use the internet and ended up being the guild HQ, since dad was the owner, so yeah, pretty much everybody knew where was.
As a Tibia veteran of 20 years (and counting), I can attest that the story checks out. Absolutely believable for Tibia guild wars.
I think the name Tibia awoke a core memory in me. I remember doing a school project and I had to write about the Tibia... And stumbled upon the MMO in the process. I logged in, tried it out, fell in a hole, had no rope, was sad, logged out, never played it again. Man... My time with that game was brief but I remember it so well lmao
Tibia was out in the late 1990's if im not mistaken. Almost sure it peaked in 2002-2004. I remember that there were always massive queues, but back then there wasn't a queue system so you had to type your account number and password over and over and over again, sometimes for hours, to try to get in (specially in peak hours).
my dad saw me doing nothing but typing my account for almost 40minutes one sunday, he bought me a premium account after that ("wtf you doing, how much is that? Fine, I'll pay, go play instead of typing like a maniac". Damn, miss you dad.
Player peak was in 07, but when the game was at its best... ask 10 players and get 10 different answers. For me it was 07-08 with Shattered Isles, Ice Islands and Yalahar releasing.

Tibia was great for its time, people discovering the dialogue of quests was pretty immersive as trash as it sounds today.
On rookguard starting out it was mostly Hi -> sell mace -> yes -> bye. But the pits of inferno quest took my group 6 hours to do the day it came out. Friends came over to my parents place to watch me do it, ordered pizza. Killed really dangerous monsters in a group of 80 people, all over level 100. Did the Annhilator, dropping into a pit with 6 demons where you had to kill 2 to make it out of the room, or you simply died and got sent back to the temple.
There was an item called the Amulet of loss, and blessings which reduced the experience penalty of death and prevented you from dropping your items. Had such a good time with the game before it inevitably turned into pay 2 win garbage.
I had to go back and rewatch the part about doxxiing and cutting people's power in real life to make sure i did not imagine it. Holy hell....

Can't believe there's a story about Tibia! I actually met my bf on Tibia haha. And yup it was wild back in the day. For anyone interested Pewdiepie has a fun video about all the insane shit he did on Tibia back in the day (pretty much every Swede in that age range has played it).
Also for second story, you can lower volume or mute a single person, so the single person having football in bg was a non issue

Tibia was the shit, I played the shit out of that game. And yes you had to type commands to communicate or do actions. however you had hotkeys (basicly macros) to instantly say a spell. Tibia was the first mmo(rpg?) started in 1997. Currently it's still running with also a lot of OT's (Open Tibia). comparable to wow private servers.
At some point I got bored of Tibia and played Tibian, a very popular tibia OT at the time (don't know if it still is). I played many different kind of OT's and all had there own flavor and cool stuff. Very good time in my youth before I started playing WoW
And yes, tibia wars or being 'hunted' is a real thing. And still the best openworld experience for pvp and war overall imo
Final thing after reading some comments, the quests in Edron where boss imo. My all time favorite quest was the inquisition quest. This was so hard and once you got it... it was the best dopamine surge ever. I did that quest out of nostalgie later on OT's where the real map was used, and at some point got stuck at hellgorak which I farmed for cool items in my house and I had my friend to come, becaus of his resists against everything and I couldn't kill him alone and I was running out of potions

Not a real american. 100 minutes of no goals should be called an excuse for fans to drink and hit each other because they were too bored with the actual sport.
TemTem is real fun. The story is objectively better as both a narrative and as a game. The MMO elements at endgane are fairly scarce, but uts great craic with friends

Preach seems like the kind of guy who hated on Pokémon when he was young. because it had bad graphics compared to ps1 games or windows 95 games.
