Even before that point, during the OT, KDY knowingly sold stuff to the Rebel Alliance, such as the Planetary Ion Cannon seen in Episode 5. They sold the Imps star destroyers and then sold the rebels anti-star destroyer weapons, to drag out the conflict and get paid from both sides.
I think it's actually pretty cool that the New Republic appealed to Kuat's corporate elements to win them over, instead of a costly battle. Kuat Drive Yards wants to earn money and the New Republic convinced them that joining them would be more profitable than staying with the Empire. Ironic, isn't it. The Empire lost Kuat because they gave them too much freedom...

Legends New Republic at least knew how to really acquire Kuats Loyalty.
The Rebel Alliance's plan to seize Kuat in its initial attack was so ingenious. They took out half of the defense fleet without casualties. Utterly amazing.
The Republic makes a show of force, while giving Kuat positive incentive to surrender, and manages to succeed in gaining control of the shipyard without bloodshed. Why can't Canon have interesting incidents like these.
The New Republic made the right call, utilising the element of surprise, combined with a great variation of wonderfully-coordinated tactics (covertly installed astromech droids, the squadrons of A-Wings and political manoeuvring) to achieve victory at Kuat. Well done, General Kraken. You, my friend, are an underrated master of the art of war.
@@tacotown4598 Yet when the Rebels took down Vader's Super Star Destroyer they didn't need 10,000. The Empire wasn't known for having great fighters, the Rebels had much better fighters.
Kinda dissapointed but it was also pretty cool in a way. It was a very smart strategy used by the New Republic and sounds like a realistic thing to do in such a situation. They showed their power without spilling blood on either side, made a victory for Kuat look unlikely (lowering the people working their and the soldiers morale). They then used this and a big weakness of the enemy to their advantage to make them surrender without a fight. This was right out of the pages of the Art of War.Thrawn would even give the New Republic a thumbs up for this.
I've always been more of a "Legends" fan and I'm glad he covered both versions of the fall of Kuat to the rebel scum. At least the Kuati defense fleet gets some action in one of the later X-wing novels when Zsinj attempts to seize a second SSD.
I actually like this setup. It shows the old strengths of the rebellion/new republic in its diplomacy, and subterfuge campaigns. A tactic that would be used in the real world since no one wants to die or order a battle that can lead to any deaths.
Of the 15 Imperial Star Destroyers the Empire stationed at Kuat in Legends, one (Mauler) was heavily damaged and another (Gilded Claw) was destroyed by the Iron Fist during Zsinj's raid on KDY to capture Razor's Kiss.
Its pretty on par with a rebel way of doing things. They always had to think of alternative ways to overcome a large opponent than direct combat. Even though they're now the new republic In think this method still holds true to character.
I absolutely love the Battle Breakdowns. I am a huge fan of the battle grids drawn up in these types of videos and would enjoy seeing them in theoretical battles, as well as starship versus Awesome work here
I love the giant "surprise" above the squadron. It's probably just for the title but I imagine the leader of the A-Wing squadron shouting "Surprise" as he disabled the dreadnought. Edit: this is exactly the opposite of the canon battle of Kuat. The difference between a months-long campaign and a small strike with A-Wings almost couldn't be more different.
Excellent video, I also remember briefly from the final book if the Bounty Hunter Wars Trilogy, that Kuat of Kuat destroyed some or part of his own shipyards to prevent the Rebels from seizing ships before Endor. Great video!
I like that there wasn't much of a battle with them. It shows the occasional instance in Legends where there actually is strong military theory put into use. An actual battle would be potentially disastrous for both sides.
Idea: do an episode where you describe your “perfect fleet”, with access to ships from Star Wars, Halo, Mass Effect, and/or other sci-fi universes. (45th try)
Nice video. Kuats ship building industries is a neat little bit of star wars. I sometimes wonder just how many ships they can build with that massive ring and other shipyards.
Definitely wish there had been a book or comic dedicated to this battle. It seems like Kuat never gets any love despite how important it is in the lore.
Amazing Video! Yes not to much is said about Kuat but I fondly remember in Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds an RTS from early LucasArts where Leia leads a team down pass the blockage, crash lands and brings about the liberation of the KSY populace. She even encountered a Jedi Master in hiding there. Eduri or something like that.
I actually like the canon version more, simply for the fact that there was a big, long battle for it, and I like me my Star Wars battles. However, this video did just show me an interesting parallel between canon and Legends that I never knew before. You said that in Legends, the Empire retreated from the Core to the Rim, right, and because of this, planets like Coruscant and Kuat fell somewhat quickly to the New Republic. This reminds me of in canon how Rax's Empire seemed to be based in the Outer Rim (correct me if I'm wrong on that), and he payed no attention to Coruscant, sending no forces to help hold it and instead forcing the ISB to take up the burden of holding it. The big difference is that the New Republic didn't seem interested in Coruscant either in canon, instead allowing insurgent groups to fight to take the planet and sending little support (much like they did with other planets such as Kashyyyk), while in Legends it seems they actually invaded Coruscant, but it's still interesting that the Empire in both iterations largely left the Core after Endor and retreated to the Rim/Outer Rim. Also, these videos are very much making me want to buy the Essential Guide to Warfare with that link you gave a few videos ago so I can learn more about Legends, which I know very little about.

Kuat is, arguably, the most important planet in the galaxy. It houses the largest overall shipyards in the galaxy (Kuat Drive Yards) , as well as the largest capital shipyards in the galaxy. Planets that are similarly important are Rothana (Rothana Heavy Engineering), Fondor (Fondor Shipyards), Corellia (Corellian Engineering), and Mon Calamari (Mon Calamari Shipyards). Coruscant may be the "center of the galaxy", but if you don't have control over any of the above-mentioned shipyards, it's highly likely you're in for an uphill battle against anyone who does control them. Production is key to victory; a lack of production is just as key to a defeat.
Hi there, I’m such a big fan of your videos on your channel here and after seeing this one I was wondering if you could do one on how the alliance was able to take coruscant from the empire after the battle of Endor.
Although the Essential Guide to Warfare was obliged to cover the Kuati Campaign as a mop-up/afterthought for the Legends timeline (as no fiction work had actually covered this, and we only had some offhand mentions in the WEG Dark Empire Sourcebook and the Essential Chronology to go on), I'm rather pleased that they opted to go with asymmetric and economic/droid-hacking warfare, rather than Yet Another Cruiser Slugging Match.

I have a big problem with how it was captured in the NEU. Apparently in less than a year the Rebellion had enough ships to go toe to toe with imperial capital ships and tie down an entire fleet for months while they seiged Kuat.
Chris sonofPear Planets that either were freed by the New Republic or just joined them and donated what ships they had, older Clone Wars ships that served as their PDF, home built patrol ships etc, and a decent amount that were built at several New Republic shipyards. Though the number that they infer is still huge, I to have questions about this
Exactly. As the news of the Emperor's death spread, countless systems rose up in open revolt. Plus additional ships from the Mon Cals, and captured star destroyers. Plus there are factors like the rank and file rebels riding high on their victory at Endor, while the imperials were completely demoralized and there was a state of confusion in the imperial ranks due to the loss of so much of its leadership. The idea of imperial invincibility was irreparably shattered.
Yes they had more ships. That doesn't mean the quality was better. An ISD was still vastly superior to the Mon Calamari cruiser. Huge space battles were avoided for a reason. How many rebel ships escaped from Scarif? Also the emperor did die. But the empire was still there. When Kennedy got killed the country didn't collapse. Same with Lincoln. They still had the biggest navy and army in the known galaxy. So suddenly they just started to lose? Because a wrinkled old man wasn't there? Palpatine barely did anything in the empire except stand there and look all evil and give propaganda speeches. There shouldn't have been too much difference for them.

Attempt 5
I've always wondered why the separatists didnt invade just during the clone wars like in 19 BBY when they broke through to the core worlds like anaxes and coruscant
Not every major naval action, space or blue water, ends in a Midway scenario. Sometimes you just have to show that a postion is utterly untenable and an enemy will willingly cede it to you, if for no other reason than to later reclaim it.
If you could design a realworld space-battleship how would you build it? (which game, movie, series made the best job in creating realistic battleships?) attempt 12
A few ion canons mounted on interceptors disable a dreaghtnought and a few other ships. Sounds almost like a super weapon, if we consider that the massive ion canon of the malovelence barley could disable a venator, which is fairly weak shields. They were they never used again? I am sure they would be usefull in almost every engament against imperial forces, espacially the dreahtnoughts of the imperial reminant. This a-wings are as stupidly powerfull as the conquerer (ISD with the deathstars superlaser).
I'll never understand why the Kuat ring itself wasn't massively fortified, I mean its a gigantic structure in space, would it be that hard to slap a bunch of turbolasers and laser cannons to it with some dope deflector shields? I'm sure the station already had the power generation for it
Imperator Class Titan vs. 100 AT-ATs!!! (No.3) BTW, I know this match is ridiculously unfair. But you could add 100 AT-STs, Elite AT-ATs etc. Hell use an entire mechanized regiment. (Not that it would make much of a difference.) AT-AT: like, 2 blaster cannons. Imperator Titan : Hellstorm Cannon, Plasma Annihilator, Apocalypse Missile Launcher, Gatling Blaster, Inferno Gun, Laser Blaster, Melta Cannon, Plasma Destructor, Quake Cannon, Volcano Cannon, Vortex Support Missile, Vulcan Mega Bolter, and 12 void shield generators)
I still wonder out of tens of thousands of systems (correct me if I’m wrong), wouldn’t be or is there more than a few hundred ships yards aside from Fondor, Kuat, Mon Calla, Sullust…? Not the smaller ones but large ones in general as well.
MiguelPpM There are other major shipyards besides those. But those tend to be the iconic to a degree I would call them the "name brand" shipyards. Whose whole world tends to be centered around their shipyards and built the major military vessels.
Actually, I prefer this solution to the all out warfare option. The republic does not have the kind of fleet required to take such a well defended planet.
Your catalog is quite extensive I confess I get lost in it. I was wondering if you could point me at any material you have regarding Ravan as a Jedi Revanite Fleet Commander & as a Sith Fleet Commander and all things relating to Revan & Valkorian in relation to Space battles & lore in general. I want to see more on the Gladiator...it had like 200 something Turbolasers and tons of fighters...its a Better version of the Venator
@SSG Apple Gladiator? I'm not sure if it had mid-life modernization or major redesign. @jesse klassen GSD was similar in size of Dreadnaught, so how it could be more powerful than VnSD? The title of "buffed Venator" had Secutor
A wing boiiiisssss doin work!
UNSC Home Fleet from Halo vs Factory Station Room 101 from Neal Asher´s Polity, Room 101 is in it´s state right before the prador launched their attack at Room 101 (including full runcible support) , the goal of the UNSC is to destroy Room 101 and the goal of Room 101 is to destroy the UNSC Home Fleet. Attempt 5
If you did empire at war canon, the battle for kuat would have a lot of new republic blood and imperial blood spilled over it.
Could Doom's Hell invade the Death Star? (Not giving up)
Except if Vader get a Holly Shotgun
I've always wondered why the separatists didnt invade just during the clone wars like in 19 BBY when they broke through to the core worlds like anaxes and coruscant
Not every major naval action, space or blue water, ends in a Midway scenario. Sometimes you just have to show that a postion is utterly untenable and an enemy will willingly cede it to you, if for no other reason than to later reclaim it.
what if you started a new series where you did the history of certain planets
If you could design a realworld space-battleship how would you build it? (which game, movie, series made the best job in creating realistic battleships?) attempt 12
1000th Like.
All hail the shipbuilders!
Wait, what about the one kuat battle that ended with the weird pirate dudes sniping an ssd with the eclipse?
A few ion canons mounted on interceptors disable a dreaghtnought and a few other ships. Sounds almost like a super weapon, if we consider that the massive ion canon of the malovelence barley could disable a venator, which is fairly weak shields.
They were they never used again? I am sure they would be usefull in almost every engament against imperial forces, espacially the dreahtnoughts of the imperial reminant.
This a-wings are as stupidly powerfull as the conquerer (ISD with the deathstars superlaser).
The Imperial Navy remembers it's heroes!
I feel like kdy is running the whole galaxy and just raking in the money
Maybe they'll portray an attack on the Kuat shipyards in one of the upcoming series
(No.3)
BTW, I know this match is ridiculously unfair. But you could add 100 AT-STs, Elite AT-ATs etc. Hell use an entire mechanized regiment.
(Not that it would make much of a difference.)
AT-AT: like, 2 blaster cannons.
Cornwalum wouldn’t they be more common?
Dozens at least, hundreds easily.
Actually, I prefer this solution to the all out warfare option. The republic does not have the kind of fleet required to take such a well defended planet.
Recusant Class Light Destroyer vs Something
Can you do a video on StarWars Galactic Empire vs Halo Guardian policing or something like that?
Cylons vs CIS
Cylons from the first colonial war or the second?
I’d say the first they are more mechanical then right? Just like the droid army
I think correct me if I’m wrong
i think the bigger challenge would be the second
Reginald Bailey fair enough I am just curious why the 2nd?
Personal shield technology compared: Dune Halo Star Wars and Stargate 10+ trys
Your catalog is quite extensive I confess I get lost in it. I was wondering if you could point me at any material you have regarding Ravan as a Jedi Revanite Fleet Commander & as a Sith Fleet Commander and all things relating to Revan & Valkorian in relation to Space battles & lore in general. Thank you very much for your continued work & have a nice day.
Just search up "Eckharts Ladder Revan" and you'll see if he made one lol
Did you try that? Cause that's the first thing I did. I got a million videos.
Hey Ecks where does this take place in legends? Like which book or comic? Or is it one of the guide books?
Just kidding i just finished the video
