Suggestion. Battle Breakdown: The Battl of Sluis Van in Thrawn Legends
So when are we going to see episode 2 of the Battle of the Dreadnoughts?
A video of the history of Kuat might be good. As well as it's shipyard systems, capacity, and in general what it is truly capable of.
Video idea: 5 subjugator class cruisers vs the supremacy
Hey eckharts where did ya get that map of the shipyards with that key on it? we are looking to use them for our RP campaign.
KDY: “Okay, we’ve paid off the Hutts for us to get this tiny little world off in Wild Space. Here’s trillions of credits in ships and material and the secret path that only we know. Go turn it into an engineering superhub, and make enough equipment to arm a Grand Army of the Republic.”
Master Engineer: “Won’t they ask questions about why we happened to have this ready?”
KDY: “You’d think, but actually no.”
I'm gonna guess it went like this:
Council: Why did you have so many ships in preparation, who sent the order, how did you get the payments???
KDY: To provide you with the details, we'd have to hold off our ship production and procurement while you investigate.
Council: OHHH everything is in order, thank you for building this vast armada for our war effort!
Well the Jedi Order and the Senat got an answer. A Jedi named Sifo Dias gave the order in commsion of the Senat. Sure both knew that was bullshit, but what should they do. Neither Kuat nor Rotana knew more.
It would be stranger if Jedi didnt exist. Jedi were known to have visions of the future, so one seeing the galactic civil war isn’t out of the question. Also, the tensions of power that led to the civil war had been brewing for a while, so foreseeing the civil war could be done without the force in theory.
@@Isometrix116 @Tyler Hendrix This thread and especially this comment raises the question to what extent the Jedi abilities to see the future becomes determinative of how their actions are influenced by the course of history or events and especially the machinations of the Sith. How much did Darth Plagueis or Darth Sidious take advantage of that to engineer Sifo Dyas into commisioning the clone army, Obi-Wan to discover it and ultimately the Jedi to lead it. Although even without the Jedi and Sith or the force or visions it seems like there are always people on the sidelines betting there's money to be made off a war that's likely to break out.
The idea of an entire planet dedicated to the manufacturing of starships is such a cool idea, just the amount of resources and personal needed for something like that blow my mind 🤯
Are you aware of 40k Forge Worlds? ;D
@@UGNAvalon No actually no lol I dont know to much of 40k tbh
@@rodo5s519 Not a problem. Simply put, just imagine ecumenopolises like Coruscant (or maybe Fondor was mentioned here?) except all those buildings are dedicated to industrial production (usually for a single type of produce? in our case, starships) !
@@UGNAvalon I didn’t know about that, 40k gets cooler and cooler every time I hear about it
It is pretty cool thinking about , I'm surprised there ain't more shipbuilding planets like kuat etc , like umbara could make powerful ships with their advanced technology and genosis they had a 100 billion population and had doonium very strong spaceship building material and have a astroid belt around it to mine to build a large spaceport building around the planet and mine the moons nearby too
I really want a Star Wars project on Kuat, doesn't even matter if it's live-action or animated
Yes! Poor Colin Trevorrow script...
Isn't there a Clone Wars episode on Kuat?
@@micahquiton7731Nah thats Ringo Vinda. Seemed like a cop out to me.
@@will2brown50
Well, Kuat getting attacked would 100% be a violation, for either side, to manage
Really liking this content eck. Feels somehow like an old friend came back but also like making a new one! Please keep it up my good man!
Same!
Exactly!!! This is the content I really appreciate from Eck!
I like this description well said bröther
Platt's Starport Guide really gave you a sense of just the scale of KDY's yards. The fact that it had dedicated transfer points for jumping into the system with specific systems authorized to be jumped in from; civilian, military, and freight, just gives a hint up the utter scale of materials being shipped into and out of the system. The Inner traffic zone after clearing the transfer ports. It is an organizational nightmare but it is amazing. The idea that you don't even jump into the star system itself but to the ort cloud or the keiper belt levels of distance, get checked in, and then allowed to jump to several nav becons closer to in system, another check point, and then you can jump to the yards...
That always has made me happy and no amount of artwork will ever capture this level of massive engineering and construction.
35 billion in orbital habitats supporting the yards. This is bordering on a real mega-engineering system that really does make the 'meager' projects of things like the death star seem small in scale.
Exegol should have had this level of security, not some wayfinders LMAO
Hah. You think that the writers who were just pulling crap out of their rears would bother to do a bit of research on what a high value system might do in terms of a multiple layer system of security and protection?
That would be too difficult to show on screen. Elite security forces who are immediately alerted by long ranged scanners picking up a ship arriving from hyperspace on an unapproved jump path or not arriving at a nav beacon, meeting up with an immediate mobilization of forces in a hostile manner, providing little to no warning before attacking? Where is the fun in that?
No. We need a stupid treasure hunt across nostalgia land.
I was hoping to see Bilbringi or Sluis Van on here, still an interesting list. I'm really enjoying your SW content!.
yeah would be interesting to see where they rank
Maybe also Sullust?
It's the problem with commitment to top 5 format only. Sometimes it just arbitrarily excludes examples that are otherwise not so different from the list's items.
We need a part two now 👍
Hack yeah, would love to see a top ten or even twenty of this!
I'm proud of myself for knowing every name on this list. Thanks, Empire at War! xD
A man of culture I see
Yes please do a more detailed breakdown on Kuat & KDY. Always found the planet interesting but there doesn't seem to be anything more than a few bits here or there about the planet & KDY, which is kinda odd considering how important it is in Legends.
I recently rewatched your Star Wars capital ship tier list stream. I was wondering if you’d ever do another tier list like that again. Perhaps ranking all Halo capital ships for UNSC and Covenant. #askeck
Hands down one of if not the best star wars channel on TH-cam.
The best
Agreed
This is one of my favorite videos ever, thank you Justin
What about Rendilli? They were in the same league as Kuat and Fondor as shipbuilders in terms of capacity. Sullust and Duro were probably on a par with Corellia as well and major shipbuilding worlds, but just not quite up to the first rank of those other three.
Yeah, Rendilli should be inplace of Rothana, because Rothana is just part of KDY. Or Nimban, main planet of Hoersh-Kessel Drive (they build LucreHulks for Trade Federation)
If I may make a suggestion... I would love to see a video covering the logistics of supply lines and management of giant machines of war like these. The story behind the story if you will, one that I feel is very under appreciated in Star Wars and Sci-Fi generally.
Rothana feels like a really weird choice for the list considering that it was TECHNICALLY it's own company and shipyard, but was just a subsidiary of KDY that worked on their secret projects. Considering that, it kind of feels like you gave Kuat two spots on the list and snubbed worlds like Sluis Van, Duro, Sullust, and Bothawui; worlds that were major players in the Old and New Republic
Eck's getting paid by KDY confirmed!
Its a list of shipyards, not ship building companies.
@@wilhufftarkin8543 considering the ships recommended under the Tarkin doctrine, I hardly think you get to talk about getting paid by KDY
I really liked this one, 10 minutes is a good length and the summary was spot-on. My friends and I were talking about why the AT-AT drop ships are never shown. There's plenty of AT-TE and AT-OT dropship animation in the Clone Wars, but AT-ATs getting to the ground is never shown in ESB, and it's just kind of an unmentioned part of the battle. Would love a deep dive on this topic!
Vs matchup Yss-1000 saber( Halo Reach) vs T-65 X-wing(Star Wars). 2 rounds round 1 average pilot in each round 2 noble 6 in the saber vs Wedge Antilles in the X-wing
That would be cool
👏👍
Noble 6 would win, due to the fact that he has Kinetic Weapons for Cannobs, something that X-Wings' Shields were not very good at dealing with. Best Case Scenario, Wedge manages to make it into a draw, but I say he loses 8.5 times out of ten. I'd make it 9.5 to 10 out of 10 for the average X-Wing Pilot losing, but Wedge is good enough to make it 8.5. There are a few times where Anti-Air Kinetic Weapons of decent Strength are in the X-Wing Novels, and every time they easily damage the X-Wing. The only reason that those pilots Sutvive are due to the Skills of the members of Rogue Squadron. Weapons and Shields aside, I put the Yss-1000 on par with the X-Wing in Maneuverability and Speed. The X-Wing's Hyperdrive is another difference, but is not useful in a Fight against the Sabre.
Star forge can make almost infinetely many ships from "blueprints", but i would rather call it a force-artifact than a foundary
I like that, maybe a list of Force Artifacts would be good as well?
@@lukesearle1302 Good idea
Personally, I'd love to see a long, deep-dive video on Kuat. Go into all the details, talk about their procedures, best designs, how the defenses worked etc.
Kuat was one of those names i mispronounced for years, only having it written in books
The proper pronunciation of Zsinj was surprising to me.
@@wilhufftarkin8543 My guess is Zis-singe. What’s the right pronunciation?
@@Isometrix116 According to Eck and Corey it's "Zinge". I'm from Germany, so I would have never guessed this, lol.
Given the key role that Nyix played in book 2 of the Ascendancy series; I bet the Chiss have some secret massive shipyards.
who needs shipyards when you can just wish 10,000 ships into existence and they rise from underground
Oh no….
Speaking of Kuat Drive Yards, you should do a video on Kud'ar Mub'at and Balancesheet. Well, the Bounty Hunter Wars featuring Kud'ar Mub'at and Balancesheet.
There were a lot of very odd, very alien characters in the old Expanded Universe that I think could deserve some attention. Kud'ar Mub'at, and subsequently Balancesheet, always represented one of the most unique and...like I said, just alien creatures in the setting, despite the fact that it had ingratiated itself into the galactic crime world.
yeee Shipyaaaards and diving into topics. Love this stuff
Shipyards will always have role in star wars.
Also, star wars squadrons did not even get the lore right fun fact: the Ringali nebula exists on coordinates L-9. Coruscant is really close by so they really messed up. I brought it up since shipyards are the talk on this video.
But excellent work on the video Eck.
5:30 Pure supposition but it would have made sense for Rothana to have perhaps suffered some damage in Kamino's rebellion. IIRC it was near the Rishi exit point to the Maze and probably the closest source of danger for them.
The battle of anaxes was something I've never expected
5:38 YES
Rogue Squadron III (and II) on the Gamecube are amazing games. I went to my closet and got my old gamecube and Rogue Squadron games and I am having a blast. TIE Hunter was great, sad it won't make it to canon.
I know this is a really long shot , but could you possibly do an entire list of ALL the star wars shipyards ?
I hope you see this.
Your content is some of my favourite on this hell site.
It never fails to make my day a little better.
Hope you have fun making content for the foreseeable future
I loved this video. I request that you make another one base on the Calamari...especially how they converted their underwater cities into capital star ships as a last resort to escape when the Empire took them over.
Recently I've been reading small random bits of the Essential Atlas and the Essential Guide to Warfare when I'm taking a shit and every time Eck or Corey does a video about something I stumbled across afterwards.
Great vid man love this kind of content love to see more
Great Video! My #askeck Question is: What was Mandalore doing during the time of the Empire? The map at 0:51 calls it a "Non-Imperial Shipyard"
The Essential Guide to Warfare classified it as a Civilian Shipyard, I believe. Eck might have had a chart along the side, but I hope this answer helps!
Great video, this is the kind of content that got me hooked on your channel.
Love the video. A couple of Questions/Suggestions what was the source of the map you showed in the first part of the video? Perhaps do a video on small but "plot related shipyards/ ships" ie Nubian or Hapes or Gallofee Yards. Lastly a video on how ship building practices/ design philosophy/ changes in tactics changed from Old Republic- Clone wars- Empire- New Republic
Would love to have more on any of these. Loved this!
interesting vid, I find the whole war industry of Star Wars to be fascinating, can you do a vid on Kuat drive yards and their subsidiaries cuz didn't they make pretty much every vehicle the empire needed?
Bilbringi: "Am I a joke to you?"
You should really make a video series about the Star Wars map. I really liked your video about the history after the battle of endor. So maybe a video series about each major section of the star wars universe? Maybe one listing major battles, ship yards and such.
Other shipyards (which could use a shoutout):
Sluis Van
Bilbringi
Jaemus
Gyndine
Sullust
Enjoying the content as usual, if we are going with largest shipyards perhaps largest factories should be next? Some are the size of continents, planets, or star systems in TGFFA
4:48 Didn’t you mean BBY instead of ABY? That would have been over 50 years after the Clone Wars
That threw me off as well
And this only scratches the surface; Rendili, Fondor, Sullust, Duro, Anaxes, Bilbringi, Sluis-Van, all of these guys are all heavy hitters too. A Top 10 list would've suited this all a lot better.
There's not too many of them, but just enough to remind you that yeah, the Galaxy is a large place and these major Engineering Systems are sprinkled throughout the vast expanses of Space in their Galaxy
Yes please do a more extensive video on Kuat
damn you Eckhart getting such a banger of a song stuck in my head that i just am too stupid to find :((
Galactic VS team up idea full potential Anakin and Revan vs Palpatine and Vitiate.
Anakin is gonna carry and possibly solo if he has Jedi Master tier skill with The Force or straight up solo them and the planet they're on if we wank him to high heavens. If Anakin's just the human equivalent of a turbolaser in this fight then he's gonna get folded with Revan by the amount of arcane sorcery at their disposal...
Killin it eck!!!! Great vid
Great vid dude and ship yards don’t get enough cover sometimes
Nice content! Please continue : it would be great to know the others less important ship building facilities.
*Zsinj furiously fixing tie raptors in his backyard shed* - one day I'll make on that list!
Very good video, well researched.
Kuat was basically it's own player on the galaxy map, having a fleet that could easily take over entire star systems.
Which is why I cringed to hell when I heard that in Disney canon the rebels made a raid on Kuat a few months after Endor, it seems like an absurd idea. I don't know the details though
A full video on kuat in particular would be awesome
And this the kind of video, that I subscribed for 👍
I can't think of anyone more knowledgeable about this exact subject than Eck, but this would have been the most obvious video to do a Spacedock collab just for the pun video title alone.
I'm kinda surprised I expected Sullust to either make the list or make the almost list
Welcome back to another episode of things you didn’t know you needed.
Nothing in fiction is something you NEED to know, but it's interesting for it's own sake
Great video idea Eck!!!! :)
i would have included Rendili StarDrive
instead of Rothana Heavy Engineering myself, but otherwise i agree with this list
I feel like Rendili is notable due to their designs. They really didn’t have much production wise. During the Old Republic they definitely had a very big impact but really that had to do with percent not total.
You make your videos like a history lesson. I like that
Great vid. I never really appreciated how massive an operation the Mon Cal yards were. I always thought their importance was inflated a bit (not to diminish by any means) by the fact that they were the rebellion’s best shipyard. Kind of thought Rendili would at least make the list.
Love it all and can’t wait for more!
I didn't even think about Rothana, but makes sense. One I would have thought would be on here for sure was Yaga Minor, but maybe that's just because I read the Thrawn Duology again recently xD
A dedicated video about Kuat would be awesome
Thanks for the info now we know key places to attack during our invasion
Wasn't Rendili a large independent shipyard, or did they become a subsidiary of Kuat. I can't remember.
Rendili was independent, but during the Clone Wars and Imperial era they worked together on some projects.
Kuat had kicked Rendili from the topsport in the centuries leading up to the Clone Wars. But the competition was fiece with Mon Cala getting a bigger and bigger shipyard until they had an orbital ring far more mordern than Kuat.
Hey Eck! I was wondering if there was any info about some of the one-off dreadnaughts kuat made for itself. I've heard you mention them a few times and it sounded interesting. You're awesome thanks for the video!
I think a full video on Rothana would be interesting
Fleet battle
Rebel fleet at Endor vs. Cole’s fleet at Cole’s last stand
I love Halo more than Star Wars, but Cole would get f**ked solely due to the sheer difference between UNSC and Star Wars technology.
I'm surprised that Rebdili Stardrive didn't make it in here. They were responsible for the Dreadnaught Heavy Cruiser, Victory Star Destroyer and the Hammerhead Cruisers
I think we can all agree that the most known is the Kuat Drive Yards, we even saw KDY on Star Wars X-Wing Alliance game but as and outpost with out it's docking ring
I absolutely am interested in Star Wars lore, I love the content. I have been subscribed for a while, and I love falling asleep to these.
THIS IS THE ECK I MISSED!!!
I'm sad Rendili isn't on the list. Rendili is underrated. They supported the Republic for millennia, they produced the backbone of the Judiciary fleet with the Dreadnaught-class heavy cruiser (which was still relevant during the Empire and even Galactic Alliance) and most importantly, without the Victory-class Star Destroyer, the Imperial-class wouldn't be a thing. Imho, the Victory-class was much more influencial to KDY's later designs than their own Venator-class.
While 5% of the whole Republic budget going towards shipbuilding sounds kinda crazy, there's some interesting benefits to it (besides the obvious bringing your navy up to parity with the Imperial Remnants')
It creates a huge amount of jobs in not just the shipwright industry, but everything leading up to it- mining, refining, fabrication, assembly of components, the whole lot
There's a genuine industrial trickle-down- I realise how unpopular trickle-down theory tends to be, but this is one of the few historically proven ways of making it work
Check out battleship economics in British history
It would work even better where you have literal shipyard planets who dedicate basically their entire economy to this single production chain than it did irl
tl;dr- investing so much into shipbuilding would be absolute stonks for the NR economy
0:53 look at the bottom right planet in red
I kinda feel Rothana is a bit of a cheat. After all it's a subsidiary of KDY 4:35
I would have chosen Rendeli over Rothana
Otherwise solid list.
The star wars planet Nessem also had a very large shipyard
Hey space dodge, have you thought of making a video on Star Blazers/Space Battleship Yamato?
I would like to know more on the legendary ship yard.Sorry Eck I don’t know how to spell it’s name
Hey man! Love the videos! I've been wondering, could you do a top 5 empire at war mods list?
Loving these
When are we getting some breakdown videos on Visions? Some awesome ships and locations in that series regardless of them not being canon.....well some of it might be in the future, but that's to come later!
I’ve always seen Kuat as the gundam’s anehiem of starwars, they will build for pretty much anyone if you got the credits/power
Video Idea:Cost of Grand Army of The Republic(Clones,armors,ships...).
Or the fact that the funding was buried in Corusant's energy budget?
I would like to hear more about the early stages of the Duros shipyards, if you've got much on that.
Dedicated video on Kuat??? Yes please!!
Can you imagine the poor employee that received the GAR order: "Kuat Drive Yards, how my I help you? ... Alright, what would you like to order? ... How many?... And you want them ready when? ... Thank you for you business, we will get right on that, have a good day!" *hangs up comlink* "WE GOTTA MOVE NOW!!!! "
To be honest, Kuat had to be on this list
You should do a video comparing the major shipyards from all of the major sci-fi franchises like Star Trek Battlestar Galactica Halo and Warhammer
A detail Kuat vid would be awsome.
A history video of Kuat would be good.
The scaling of the ring shipyard just does not suspend my disbelief.
Post Yuuzhan Vong War, Corellia may have been bigger than Kuat. Corellia was able to build and design an entire Fleet in Secret in less than 10 Years...while also keeping up their Normal Work Orders to prevent suspicion.
More details on Kuat would be great
What u should do is do a video for the top 5 navies in Star Wars
What if lockheed made star fighters. What if boeing made frigates and freighters?
Love your content, but when you show us a page or two out of a book, like the one with the map showing shipyard locations, could you put something, either on the screen or in the video details specifying what book you used?
Hey eck, can you do a video on that location from the star wars squadrons campaign where the star destroyer that gets captured falls out of hyperspace? Its a huge wrecksite of some sort. Id also love to see some more content of venators, maybe the various famous wrecksites such as the one seen in fallen order, or the destroyed one in squadrons where the empire gets ambushed by the starhawk
Loved the video!! I was wondering if you could do a video for the timeline of Star Wars novels. I’ve been reading the Thrawn Trilogy but I’m not sure if there were books I should’ve read before and after them.
I would highly recommend reading the X-Wing novels (1 to 7) and then The Courtship of Princess Leia, @ASAJW , although that last is a somewhat older, somewhat cheesier novel, than many later ones.
Tatooine Ghost, just before the Thrawn Trilogy, is also a decent read.
@@chrissonofpear1384 thank you! I’ll have to find the x-wing novels and give them a read. Do you know where the Jedi Academy series falls? I mean are they set after the Thrawn trilogy?
Great stuff
Would imagine these were so hard to forcibly take due to them being SO important they're also exceptionally well supported and defended bythe rich owners along with anyone with a major interest in Seeing a yard kept in good shape and even remaining in specific hands too. Making them real hard targets for even the strongest factions. Whom also wouldn't want to try to strong arm the shipyards you rely or want to build your ur fleet for a number of major obvious reasons.
Well in warhammer horus heresy they had similar problems with capturing shipyards. The main problem is that on order to capture these things you must destroy several defence layers and thus damaging the shipyard making it less valuable to yourself since a lit of its power is now needed to repair the whole strukture.
