  • This is the first video I've ever made and was filmed after a morning's kayak down the Towamba River; as you can see I dressed up for the occasion :-) We love looking at other people's videos of their vans and they've helped us a lot to work out how we wanted to set up our van. So this video is designed to be a detailed run through of our Jayco Journey 13.42-1 Outback poptop caravan. It's a fantastic little van that's packed with loads of great features.
    Tare: 1526kg

Hi Melisa, I enjoyed your video, we are just about to dip our toes into the caravan world and toying with a camper trailer or caravan like yours. I wondered how to over come the caravans with no toilet or shower and was unaware of the type of set up you have. Thanks and keep it up posting your videos.

Great first effort and some nice mods too! We have a 13 as well and we have done a bunch of things that I’ll share on a video maybe around July. Thanks again and I look forward to more adventures from you guys.

Great video. You have sold me on the 13 footer. Not too big and not too small. It seems ideal for what I want- small enough for me to tow on my own with an easy set up. I was thinking about one of those roll up ensuite tents which attach to the wall. Your ensuite is a great idea. Thanks so much for the inspiration.

They definitely are a bit like a Tardis. I know a lot of people have the ensuite tents that attach to the side and they're also really happy with them.

Thank you so much for your kind response. I'm not too sure about being a natural but I wanted to make a detailed video about the 13.42 because I just don't think people realise what a great little van they are.

We have a 22 Jayco Starcraft 13ft and love it, just spent a 4 full weeks in Tassie. We have bought a Kings 2 mtr x 2.5 mtr room that fits under the awning and makes life very easy with the extra room. We did have a big leak from the seem at the front of the roof but easily fixed with Silicone spray apart from that no issue. Yes storage is fantastic and thanks for the tip on the fridge great idea. We are removing the seat in the back left hand corner and having permanent toilet put in with wall and vinyl to the roof. No oven, Air Fryer is an absolute must have.

What a great video. You have done a wonderful tour of your van and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. Andrew has done some great mods and I cannot believe the space and storage available within that little van, as you say a great van for a couple. I see so many people on TH-cam spending their life savings on buying a massive van to do trips away when not needed, and then they have to update their towing vehicle because it cannot cope with a huge heavy van behind it. That looks a lovely spot and you have a great setup. Thanks for sharing and well done. I have subscribed and look forward to more videos 👍

Thank you so much for your kind reply. We love our little van and I really do think they are very under rated. As you mentioned you don't need a massive car to tow this van and there is loads of storage, we've certainly never filled it. Not too sure how many videos we'll be doing but I have just added one were I've snipped the bit about the Joolca ensuite tent because that works really well and I was worried that this video was really long and I really wanted to share that with people.

@@madtouring6990 well don't be worried I believe you did such a great job. As you said when you are looking at van or anything before you buy it you look for a review or some footage of someone who has one. I guarantee your video will help so many people looking at this model 👍

Hi, great little video. I’m getting my 13.42 in about 6 weeks. Can you please let me know what size diesel heater you fitted, 2 or 5 Kw? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I note that you have since sold the van, however, we have the exact same van and based on your experience with the Joolca, we were going to purchase one also. One question with the shower tray, just curious how you lead the sullage hose out of the shower cubicle. I ask as I can't see any provided opening in the base of the shower tent area in the various video's I've watched. Am I to assume you just cut a hole in the mesh? Cheers.

Noticed you have listed the van for sale. Just wondering why?

    • @madtouring6990

Hi, yes we have made the very hard decision to sell the van. We have done this because I’ve been able to do a deferred salary arrangement with my work and in two years time, Andrew will take long service and we’ll spend a year travelling. We had many discussions about this because we absolutely love the van but in the end felt that if we are living in a caravan for a year it would be nice to have an inside ensuite and a little bit more room. The single bed layout in the smaller vans is great for maximising space and really good when you’re using it for weekends and holiday trips but as the caravan is going to be our home, we wanted to have a queen size bed. We’ve been watching the price of vans and each year they just keep getting more expensive so we thought we might as well change vans now and that way we’ll be really used to the new van by the time we go. This little van was a great start to caravanning for us. Prior to it we had only had a camper trailer and neither of us had towed a caravan before and that was a bit daunting. “Dougy” (as we called him) was a really good introduction to caravanning for us as he was so easy to tow and manoeuvre and gave us the confidence we needed to move into towing a larger van. We decided on an 18 foot van and I hate using the word “upgraded” because I don’t feel that’s what we’ve done, it’s that the way we’re going to be using the van has changed and so we needed a different setup. Dougy will be leaving us this week and it’s definitely going to be sad to see him go. I think that once we’ve done our big trip I wouldn’t be surprised if we got another 13 foot Jayco again as they really are an awesome little van.

@@madtouring6990 hello, which brand 18foot did you go with.?, it’s the size for our big trip and choosing a brand is the hardest, with prices varying soo much… Cheers Den
