    I’ve just purchased a 07 Hawk, loved the layout for the 3 of us. 1 adult and 2 children. Can’t wait for school holiday adventures! We plan to do the same as you for clothing. Have seen people keep clothes in tubs in their car.

      Hi Louise, lovely to hear from you. Yes, we used to travel with duffel bags on the back seat and this worked well until we got a doggie. You’ll work it what is best for your situation after a few trips. We always thought the Hawk layout would be great with children, as the kitchen area can easily be out of bounds if gas stove is on, thus reducing risks to little people. Thank you so much for watching, and we are sure you and your children will make loads of happy memories in your Hawk. Cheers, Lea and Joe 💕

    A lot of the downsides of the Hawk and others with the beds that extend out can be resolved by getting a Penguin. We travel a fair bit in ours, have camped in subzero temps and lousy weather but no problems with keeping warm, dry and no flapping canvas. Not that spacious but we’ve done a lot of mods recently and now have an indoor shower, much more comfy lounge area and plenty of little tweaks to improve our experience.

      Also is the Penguine a bigger unit to tow?

    • @RoaminWithTheRubes
      @RoaminWithTheRubes  8 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@robynrobyn7070 Yes the Penguin is larger than the Hawk (about 300mm longer) it has the same towing length as the Swan and Flamingo. Joe and Lea.

    • @robynrobyn7070
      @robynrobyn7070 8 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @RoaminWithTheRubes yes I thought so. Mmmmm how to decided. I've looking at hybrids but they're soo heavy and expensive although my vehicle will tow it. But sounds like the Jayco is a simple yet comfortable option.

    • @janetelmes9205
      @janetelmes9205 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@robynrobyn7070 it has the bigger frame so I guess so. However, it is well balanced and very smooth to tow. I hardly notice it when driving.

    Have a question have you ever washed the curtains in the van ?
    What did you use ?
    If not any suggestions on how?

    • @RoaminWithTheRubes
      @RoaminWithTheRubes  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes we have washed the curtains - in the washing machine on a cold wash with regular washing powder, and gentle spin. They came up really well. I've also washed the curtains in my daughter and son in law's 2003 Hawk OB - they purchased it about 2 years ago...and I'm sure they had never seen the inside of a washing machine! They too came up a treat. My other suggestion (if you have concerns about the current condition of your curtains) would be to half fill the bath tub with warm or cold water and detergent and gently stomp around on them. Careful not to slip over!! Then rinse in the same manner. Our next video is a tour around the inside of our camper, and we talk about washing curtains and cushion covers, so this one may be of interest to you. The video goes live next Friday evening (1 March) at 6pm AEST. Thanks so much for watching. Cheers, Lea

    For my family it is our love of cooking with olive oil or fat splatters from meats, etc that causes issues with cooking meals inside and enough dirt clings to the interior to make it not fun to clean. But I do enjoy having the option for a wee sink and a hot drink station, boil an egg, gently heat soup, that kind thing when we can’t cook outside.

    • @RoaminWithTheRubes
      @RoaminWithTheRubes  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, some meals can be challenging to cook inside for sure. The inside option has saved us on many time when the weather has been lousy. And yes, perfect for a quick cuppa. Thanks so much for watching, Lea and Joe.

    Hi really enjoyed your video. I have a 2002 Swan Outback which I plan on doing the full lap of Australia in. I have a couple of questions if that is ok. My main concern is are these campers riser arms strong enough for windy days. On raining days will they keep the water out..
    I do plan on installing an electric water pump and I am thinking of installing an air conditioner. any thoughts on these additions would be much appreciated. Thanks again.

      Hi Neil, we're really pleased that you enjoyed the video. We're planning to do a few more on our Jayco Hawk. The great thing about your camper is that it's probably quite a bit more solid than the new ones.
      First thing I'd suggest to you is if you haven't already joined the Jayco Camper Trailer Owners Facebook do so and have a look in the files section, there's a ton of manuals and info you'll find most useful. I really like the repair manual as it gives a great overview of the lifting system. The lifting system is more than adequate for the van in high winds, I'd advise that you stow any awnings if the wind is going to go over 30km. Those awnings make a great sail and will put one heck of a load on your roof and lifters. Before you go, check all of the lifters and make sure the plastic clips between the sections of the lifter aren't crazed or perished. They are available from Jayco and fairly easy to replace. I'd also make sure the eyebolts on the winch are in good order.
      Use the search function in the Facebook group to look up anything that you're interested in, the group is very helpful. Regarding the waterproofing of the canvas, I give it a good clean and renew the waterproofing every 2 years or so. Lots of people have portable air conditioners and I've heard of owners taking out their microwave and installing a Heron air conditioner in that space. We have not opted to add an air con, purely for weight reasons. However, as you will be on the road for a lengthy period of time we understand why this may be a priority for you.
      As for the water pump, that was the first thing I did after our Cape York trip. We hope you enjoy your Swan and have many a great night away. Joe and Lea
