Mate...absolutely nailed it...clear, concise no nonsense, easy to understand advice...I’m a newby and that was one of the best tutorials I’ve ever seen on the general workings of modern Australian caravans..👍
Thanks mate, appreciate those comments. It's encouraging to hear that people are getting value from these videos. Glad you enjoyed it and all the best for your new adventures with your van. Cheers, Nathan.
I may be late to this party but let me say thank you. I've just purchased a (new to me) Journey Outback and this video is exactly what I've been looking for. I think I saw somewhere that you had moved on from your Jayco for more off road capability. I hope you found what you were looking for. I'm happy with my purchase and look forward to getting out and about in it. Cheers
Great video Nathan, answered all the questions we had when we recently bought our used Jayco Journey. Thank you for taking the time to share this valuable info.
Thanks Chris! 👍 I’m glad it can be of help. If you have any specific questions I might be able to help with flick us a message on Fb! I know the overwhelming feeling of a new van! Cheers, Nathan.
Thx, so informative and useful as we've just purchased a Journey through a private sale and didn't get much of a handover. Very well presented and love the extra tips, cheers!
Great video Nathan. Always easy to understand. Tuned in for a refresher on the HWS when using gas when off grid. It’s amazing what you forget. Many thanks Nathan. Happy travels!
Just a correction, and I know you mean well, gas bottles do not explode, except under extreme blevie situations, but turning the gas off is a must, ruptured gas lines will burn at point of fracture, but gas pressure will not allow it to travel back to the cylinders, having said this, anything near those super heated flame WILL ignite, so great advice to turn them off, I really enjoy your videos very informative, plain english well done that Man.
Have watched the video a couple of times now, with our first small foray to the beach not far from home. Very informative & reassuring at the same time. Great stuff :)
Thanks mate, I'm glad it has been useful. I'm sure you will make some awesome memories in your own van and I hope to see you guys out there one day. Cheers, Nathan.
Hi Nathan. Just another tip in regards to the water tank selector tap. If the tap is in the middle position (ie drawing from both tanks) and one of the tanks runs empty, the pump will start sucking air in via the refill point and water will stop flowing from the tank still holding water. To overcome this, flick the selector tap towards the good tank. This blocks air coming in from the empty tank and you're good to go again. (until the second tank empties anyway :-) ) - Great videos.
Thanks mate! Soo many great tips to learn when using these vans. I have noticed that almost always the tanks drain at different rates, so this is bound to happen when they start to run out. Cheers, Nathan.
Great video and very detailed. Thank you so much for taking the time to share this. As a newbie I now feel even more confident when I go to pick up my van. Will definitely use as a reference if I ever get stuck. Thank you :)
Thanks Sheryl! I’m glad this video could help you out. Good luck when picking up your van and safe travels. Hopefully we see you out there one day 👍 Cheers, Nathan.
Great tips. We got our caravan 3 days before the Qld border was shut. Only went away for a 3 day test run last week and had forgotten most of the info from the handover. However we took things slowly and now I have a few notes from your video to ensure my prep for our next trip goes even smoother. I have a tip for you... Bushman's repellant
Thanks mate, appreciate that. I'm glad you found the video useful. I hope you guys enjoy plenty of new adventures with your new van once these restrictions are lifted. Cheers, Nathan.
Awesome news, so glad to hear that this is still helpful and useful for all van owners. Enjoy the adventures your van will take you on! Cheers, Nathan.
Love your work mate, thanks for the excellent information. if I may critique your videos, I would say that the quality of your videos are the best there is on you tube.
Thanks mate, that is super encouraging! I'm glad people are getting value from these videos and it can assist them to get out and about. Cheers, Nathan.
Just found your channel, Graham Reinders 200 series vid brought me here. I have the same van 2019 model, after writing off my 2018 model-same van. I'm in the market for a 200s so good timing for me. Great videos.
Awesome to hear mate. I'm glad you're able to get some value from this. All the best with your new van, I'm sure it will provide some great adventures. Cheers, Nathan.
Great video, thanks Nathan. We've had our Starcraft Outback for two years now and you have cleared up some points which have been bugging us since new. Love the van and am looking forward to catching all your other vids as well. Cheers Mitch
Hi Nathan, yet another great video. About 6 months ago our HWS stopped working on 240V in our 2011 Discovery, works fine on gas. I was told I probably sizzled the 240V element by forgetting to turn that silly misplaced on/off switch inside the water unit off then when getting home reconnecting the 240V to keep battery charged and of course no water supply and now heater element possibly damaged. Looking forwards to a vid on HWS element testing/replacing😉 Cheers!
Ahh, thats not great. Personally, I haven't had experience with replacing components of the hot water system, but I can assure you, if I need to I'll definitely get a video produced. Again, thanks for watching!
Just to add, that particular Thetford fridge does not have a thermostat for the GAS operation. The user MUST monitor the cabinet temperatures otherwise it will freeze things like lettuce, tomatoes and eggs or it wont be cold enough and fresh meat etc will go off. The dial sets the flame intensity not the temp, so it does not automatically adjust the flame. After owning the exact same fridge for 6 years it is not a prob for us. We like the simplicity of the manual fridge, but others complain bitterly. Buy a wireless thermometer for the fridge. ALL 3 way fridges are very slow to react to temperature changes. Make sure it is at operating temp before any food goes in, so run it for 24 hours before you load food into it.
Great video mate, just looking to buy the journey outback and this was very informative. Have subscribed. Just one thing I’d like to know is where does the shower and kitchen sink water go. Just out onto the ground or into a tank
Thanks mate, I'm glad you were able to get some value from this video. So from standard, the waste water is collected at the rear drivers side of the van where it exits via 1 port. This enables a pipe to be fitted to the plumbing and the waste water directed into a drain or away from camp. Water can be collected and is often referred to as 'self sufficient' or 'self contained' systems. This involves adding a grey water tank to the van where the water is collected and can be emptied when required. Jayco do offer this as a factory option and theoretically wouldn't be hard to add to any existing system. Hope this helps and good luck with the new van. Cheers, Nathan.
Hi Nathan great videos as always. There is a mod in your drawbar that caught my eye. Do you have a triangular storage or a shelf in the A frame between the gas bottles?
Thanks for the video!.1 question, will the water tank fill the hot water system if I’m off grid?.do I have to turn the 12v pump on before turning the gas on?..cheers!.
Hey mate, so yes the 12V water pump will supply water to the HWS. This being said, unless you manually drain the tank from the exterior, the tank will always be full. As you draw water from it, the pump is re-filling it back up 👍 Hope that makes sense.
Cheers mate, glad to hear you're enjoying the channel. To be completely honest, not overly familiar with their company or products. It's hard to compare vans these days with so many options on the market... Cheers, Nathan.
Great Vid. Thanks for taking the time and producing it. We have exactly the same van and the handle over was early April. We haven't been able to use it due to Covid19, so it was in fact even better than the "quick" run down" of the handle over.

Exactly the info we needed having bought a van privately. Well presented, factual and straight forward. Thanks heaps !

Hi Nathan great videos as always. There is a mod in your drawbar that caught my eye. Do you have a triangular storage or a shelf in the A frame between the gas bottles?
Thanks mate. I replied to your PM with some more details and some photos.
Where did you get the fan for the inside of fridge from please?
Sure, I purchased online here: ebay.us/eUhOST

Looking at purchasing a fully optioned 2021 Starcraft Bush Pack.
@@RocketRod63 You won't regret it mate. They are great value pieces of kit that make exploring our country soo much easier and comfortable!
Thank you!!
You're welcome!
Love your videos mate. What do you think of the Malibu caravan? I’m a first timer looking to buy first caravan

Thanks mate 👍 I’m glad you found it useful!
Great tips thank you. tip for you try Aerogaurd.
Thanks mate, they sure were friendly on this day.
Hey mate, enjoy your videos. Just purchased exact same van in the 2021 model. Did you use a weight distribution system when towing behind the 150 prado?
Cheers mate, glad you enjoy the channel.
Negative, we did not. Using the airbag helpers in the rear suspension was enough the level out the vehicle with the weight of this van.
Keep in mind they can't really be used off-road, if you plan on taken your van out and about.
Cheers, Nathan.
Do you know if you can use electricity and gas together in the hot water system to heat it up faster
For sure mate 👍 forgot to add this into the video. Thanks for mentioning it, at least others can see it in the comments now
Cheers, Nathan.
I. Drained the hot water srevice and changed anoid.... How do i refill the hot water service... Thanks
Good stuff. To re-fill the hot water system, you just need to turn your water pump on. There is a sensor inside that will automatically switch the pump off when the correct pressure is restored.
Don't be too worried if it takes a little while, theres about 22L required to fill.
You might find the pump will switch on and off a couple of times when it's almost full too.
Hope that helps.
Cheers, Nathan.
what video do you talk about your antiflap kit?? Thank you
Haven’t quite got to that one just yet mate. Stay tuned for more videos to come 👍
Bloody flies
Haha, tell me about it. They were friendly!
