When this came out, nobody would play an 11:05 song, especially on AM radio. Except for one fellow on KHJ (Los Angeles) named Johnny Midnight. I was recovering from a bicycle accident and restless, so I was awake all hours. First time Johnny put this on I was blown away. Knew to not call station then, as it was his bathroom break, The funniest part was I was maybe the only listener with a telephone? I kept "winning": merch by being the only caller: concert tickets (John Denver and "Jesus Christ Superstar" at the Universal Amphitheater with Ted Neeley), albums, t-shirts. It got to the point of "Hi Johnny" "Hi Michael". Made the pain and restlessness quite tolerable.
Am I the only one that was disappointed to learn that CCR is from the Bay Area and not the south? I mean it doesn’t change the music but it does kinda skew how I view them. No hate intended, just curious to know if I’m alone in this thought
You can't sleep on John Foggerty. Dude has an incredible voice. If you'd like another 60s classic, try Norman Greenbaum - spirit in the sky. Hope you had a good weekend. Great way to start my work week.
Credence is phenomenal and is still a favorite by young and old folks. They are a band that will never be forgotten or replaced. Loved the video brother.
"Run Through the Jungle" is about serving in Vietnam. "Fortunate Son" is about how most of the people who fought in Vietnam were working class, both Black and White, while the rich young men, the "fortunate sons", got off scott free.
MAN THIS SONG IS PROBABLY TWICE AS LONG, 15 MINUTES OR SO, GEEEE HAD A FEW OF THOSE SMOKES WITH THIS ONE. U KNOW I OLD I HAD IT ON 8 TRACK, GOT IT NOW ON CD IN MY VEHICLE NOW
Duane Allman plays a killer solo at the end of it too. I have heard Clapton say it is one of the best ever. That put Allman on Clapton's radar and eventually led to them working together in Derek and the Dominos on their classic album "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs".
You can love a song multiple times in multiple versions... nothing wrong with that. Like "Proud Mary" from CCR & Tina Turner. I love Creedence, what a cool sound.
I will never forget the time back in the 70's when my dad got a hold of me and told me "I heard through the grapevine that you been smoking pot", lol! Wasn't a good day for me!
Born on the Bayou bro, as a Yankee i moved down to the bayous bro way down deep in La. Well one day hiking through the swamps, jungle and bayous smoking a joint this song came on my walkman. Suddenly i had goose bumbs as this song soon became my favorite even got scared and started looking behind me for swamp monsters.
"I Heard It Through the Grapevine" is a song written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong for Motown Records in 1966. The first recording of the song to be released was produced by Whitfield for Gladys Knight & the Pips and released as a single in September 1967; it went to number two in the Billboard chart.
Colleen Mahony YES!! I watched that same video this morning LOL. I love the soul train dancers. We used to love it when they came on TV on those variety shows. My sister could do a really good impression of the Pips’ dance moves… LOL
The Miracles first recorded the song on August 16, 1966[1] and included their version on their 1968 album, Special Occasion. The Marvin Gaye version was placed on his 1968 album In the Groove, where it gained the attention of radio disc jockeys, and Motown founder Berry Gordy finally agreed to its release as a single in October 1968, when it went to the top of the Billboard Pop Singles chart for seven weeks from December 1968 to January 1969 and became for a time the biggest hit single on the Motown label (Tamla), the song has been recorded by a range of musicians including Creedence Clearwater Revival, who made an eleven-minute interpretation for their 1970 album, Cosmo's Factory.
CCR is a classic american band. “Fortunate son” “I put a spell on you” and their best song in my opinion is “midnight special” Cant go wrong with any of these classics. Good band to chill out to.
This song was written by Whitfield and Strong in 1966, released by Gladys Knight and the Pips in 1967, then Marvin Gaye in 1968, CCR in 1970 and others afterwards. CCR IS a great band. You can pick anything of one of their albums and it'll be awesome.
Marvin Gaye! You should react to the "Whats Going On/Whats Happening Brother" live video.. super relevant today and is a phenomenal performance by Marvin
Now, this here,.. this is how to make real music. You speak the truth from within, and you FEEL it as the song flows thru you. If it doesn't flow out of you naturally, forget it. If it doesn't move you, it probably won't move others, & it won't be genuine.
CCR was great party music back in the day. They had so many hits and such a great sound!! John Fogerty the lead singer went on to a solo career afterwards.
I just watched Marvin Gaye's performance of Heard it through the grapevine, to make a fair comparison. You just can't choose one over the other! They were both GREAT! :)
This was early 70's. Didn't have the tech we have today. Did the best they could with whatever they did have. They did it dam well, and I'm thankful 4 it.
Yeah Marvin Gaye... man you got me snapping my fingers, tapping my Toes Mr V , but can a brotha get a little Otis Redding while" sitting on the dock of the bay" smoking a little , you know..
I Put A Spell On You Born On The Bayou Run Through The Jungle Ramble Tamble (very under appreciated song) Green River Proud Mary Down On The Corner There’s many many more but that a start 🤣😂🤣
This man loves great music. And he cares not when it was made or who made it. That is exactly what we need to see in 2020. Someone yesterday mentioned I Put A Spell On You as a worthy CCR followup to this tune. I say Damn Right, it would be! And Mr Video will love it.
I've been watching your channel for awhile...HAVE to say...you just make me so happy! I love that music can bring all different types of people together! Keep doing your thang! 😁❤
Yes, do Marvin Gaye's version. Then listen to the WHOLE of CCR's version. 11 minutes and 11 seconds. This one faded out when they were just getting going.

I watched this the day you uploaded it (as I do with ALL your content) it’s now Oct. 21st- Love ya and love the song! I’ll watch songs I don’t really care for just to see you react and 👍. I look as soon as I wake up and before going to bed- not to mention the random re-watching throughout the days. No eerie, freakie-deakie mess, I just enjoy you that much.. It’s un-funking believable and brilliant!! 🤷🏼♀️. 🧡💜✌️✨
They look like they’re having so much fun what happened with this band? You read about how they fought like cats and dogs eventually… What is the dealio?
Lydia Joy John Fogerty still tours and if we ever get live music again, go see him if he comes to town.. CCR broke up due to arguments of artistic control.
Lydia Joy : They broke up because of problems with the record label. Life has never been the same. They were magical together.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for reacting to one of the LIVE performances of this song. This is so much more entertaining than watching someone react to a studio recording.
Smoking weed while listening to CCR can heal all the wounds inside out
John Fogerty wrote Proud Mary so they come by this naturally.. Swamp rock supreme..
Originally? Gladys Knight & The Pips, then Marvin Gaye.
@@GJoeJ010841 yes, Fogerty wrote Proud Mary. Not Grapevine.
@@GJoeJ010841 Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong wrote Grapevine.
CCR was one of the best rock bands ever. The quality and consistency of their performances was second to none.
I'm not trying to take away from the greatness of Marvin's original version because I love it too, but CCR's version is my favorite.
Its the best one for sure.
Agreed. That twang they put on it just cant be beat
Don't forget Gladys Knight and the Pips' version, my personal fav. All of them are great. What a song!
All the versions are great, but CCR sped it up , and made it rock more- John Fogerty's voice is also very Soulful!!
This is such a marvelous song that I love all versions of it. It's wonderful!
Ccr. Have you ever seen the rain. Fortunate son. Bad moon rising. Proud Mary.
He did Fortunate Son already, check it
Bad moon rising is so good!
Keep on Chooglin also very good
The Raisens remade this in their movie. Lmao who else remembers the raisens?!?!😂😂
Yes I remember the commercials with the raisins singing that song
Remember the commercials but don't think I seen the movie
I remember the raisins Christmas special
Lmao I knew I was spelling it wrong but auto wasn't helping 😂😂
@mr.video do the california raisins!!
“Run Through the Jungle”
“Ramble Tamble”
“Up Around the Bend”
And their cover of “I Put a Spell on You”
All classics. All bangers
Just here to agree
Me 2...
All great. My vote's gotta be Born on the Bayou~
The Night Time is the Right Time was a great cover too. First time i let a friend hear it, he made me replay it 3 times.
I put a spell on you...best ever

Used to play CCR's Cosmo's Factory over and over . " I heard it through the Grapevine " took up most of side two ... Killer track !
I Love 💗 your great nostalgic story! I remember those days of AM/FM radio 📻.
Anyone remember the Wolfman?
Cool ❤️
@@d.sepulveda7669 yep ❤️
Honey, honey! Gotta hear "Born On The Bayou" and "Green River" (studio versions). CCR at their swampy best!🌿💚💙
Don't forget "Down On The Corner".
Hell yea, and Tombstone Shadow!
I second that!! From someone raised on the bayou
Sweet hitchhiker, run thru the jungle..ccr is the $#!!
Am I the only one that was disappointed to learn that CCR is from the Bay Area and not the south? I mean it doesn’t change the music but it does kinda skew how I view them. No hate intended, just curious to know if I’m alone in this thought
Born On The Bayou, Green River. Thanks. CCR doesn't have any bad ones.
CCR was a staple to the baby boomers in the late 60s and 70s.
And the years have not told their shine they still sound damn good😊❤
You can't sleep on John Foggerty. Dude has an incredible voice.
If you'd like another 60s classic, try Norman Greenbaum - spirit in the sky.
Hope you had a good weekend. Great way to start my work week.
Good suggestion!
That and "Signs" by the 5 Man Electrical Band (?)
Great song.
HvyMetal4Ever I love your suggestion!
Or Peter Greenbaum, aka Peter Green
Marvin Gaye killed it with this but CCR did an awesome job here with a different spin on it . Loved them both ♥️
Yep😍
Linnymae Mullins 👆🏻💖✌🏻
Ccr did better
Im telling you through the Grapevine that there is a long version to this song that is the BEST vesion of all!!!
Yes I agree long version one of my favorites, great guitar licks! Heaven!
This is that version, it just got cut short right when they were about to get going.
You darn right!
Marvin Gaye sang this song originally but I love me some CCR John Fogerty has a very unique voice
Gladys Knight and the Pips first. Gaye was later, but I do believe a bigger hit.
Gladys Knight and the Pips did it before Marvin Gaye by a year. They went to #2, Gaye #1.
Gaye's version was recorded first, but the Gladys Knight and the Pips version was released first.
Gladys Night and the Pips did it first
Marvin Gaye owns this song vocally. CCR owns it as an instrumental piece. Either way, a lifelong favorite.
1 & 1a personally both kick pure ass.
And Gladys Knight and the Pips did it first. Way back in 1966.
castanza128 i actually like gladys' the best. ❤️
would of made an awesome mash up then, imagine all of them having their own part in one big song.
lets face it a good song is a good song...no matter whos doing it
Try Midnight Special you'll love it
Right
Credence is phenomenal and is still a favorite by young and old folks. They are a band that will never be forgotten or replaced. Loved the video brother.
The brother is soulful period! Soul has no color. ❤
"Run Through the Jungle" or "Born on the Bayou"
"Long As I Can See The Light" one of my personal favorites
My favourite also
Australia 💕 Christina
You have to listen to “I put a spell on you” by CCR now. Trust me you’ll be blown away!
That's a winner for me . . . your new merch shirt needs to say "UnFunking Believable"!
"Run Through the Jungle" is about serving in Vietnam. "Fortunate Son" is about how most of the people who fought in Vietnam were working class, both Black and White, while the rich young men, the "fortunate sons", got off scott free.
Man I was dancing all around the house listening to this song again
CCR is an all time favorite, never gets old to me. Check out America, The Eagles and definitely American Woman by The Guess Who.
CCR I Put a Spell on You!
... and also the Screamin’ Jay Hawkins original!
Yes and midnight special
I think I have suggested this before. I put a spell on you live.
Hell, why not Samantha Fish while we are at it

The day I see "hey jude" by Wilson Pickett on this channel will be the greatest day ever, I've been trying for so long go get someone to react it lol
Duane Allman plays a killer solo at the end of it too. I have heard Clapton say it is one of the best ever. That put Allman on Clapton's radar and eventually led to them working together in Derek and the Dominos on their classic album "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs".
😍😍😍😍
Bad Moon Rising is another good one.
yess
You know there's a " bathroom on the right " cous once you hear it ... you can't unhear it ... LOL
You should hear John Fogerty/CCR sing Little Richard's Good Golly Miss Molly!
Love me some CCR. Do "Born on the Bayou", "Proud Mary" or "Up Around the Bend" next

The quintessential classic rock band! They are the kings.
