ZZ TOP recorded their first 4 Albums, twice as The Moving Sidewalks then returning to record their first 2 Albums as ZZT, at Robin Hood Studio, here in Tyler, Texas. The founder and producer, Robin Hood Brians , started recording in the living and dining room of his parents’ house before his Dad decided he’d get more sleep if they built a studio in the back yard!🤣 Can you imagine having the likes of ZZ TOP, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Tony Douglas, Don Henley, James Brown and Ike & Tina Turner recording in your backyard! Robin said he talked to Billy Gibbons after learning of Dusty’s passing and he told him they were going to take time to reflect and figure things out and then get back on the road. I hope that’s the case! They were scheduled to play a date here December 1st at the University of Texas-Tyler’s Cowan Center. Our thoughts and prayers are certainly with Frank, Billy and Dusty’s family.
Worked with Robin in the mid 1980's on audio for tv commercials and industrial videos. He could be very intense at times. The end product mattered to him
Intensity and attention to detail for sure as evidenced by the fact that when he had Robie Morgan build his 10 channel mixer Brians insisted on each channel having its own high and low equalizer to allow manipulation of the lowest and highest frequencies to prevent distortion and improve clarity on small transistor radio speakers. And this was in, I’m guessing the late 50s or early 60s? Can you imagine the guys reaction if you sat them down with a transistor radio with or without an earbud and had them listen to these songs?

Whenever this song starts, I always see in my mind the claymation California Raisins dancing and waving their fingers in the air in a Hardee's commercial promoting their new cinnamon and raisin biscuits. They even released little raison figures for sale with a purchase of whatever. I still have the first six; the singer, guitarist, sax player, trumpet player and the two backup dancers.
Remember how they would twirl around, swipe their forehead, then slap hands? For Halloween that year I sewed and made full size California Raisin costumes complete with big paper mache noses, stuffed lips, huge poster board sunglasses, vest bib and bow ties, and white felt gloves. My sister and I had a blast surprising our middle sister with her own color coordinated costume too when she arrived for the weekend. We had this song loaded into a cassette boom box, in character we danced our way into the local bar & contest and did the twirl-swipe-slap hands move once we reached the dance floor. The place went crazy, hands down one of my fave Halloweens ever. The live band that was playing that night lost it on stage when we whipped out a big fat microphone from our home stereo system out of our big pockets I had sewn in, and acted like we were singing along with them on the dance floor. At the end of the evening the band said they had to come personally thank us for one of their best nights and for being so funny, especially the mic that cracked them up, and always being the first on the dance floor which kept everyone dancing all night. We suddenly lost that sister last Sept. I was thinking about her and that fun night all through this song. Thank you for bringing up the California Raisins since it's what I think of when I hear it too. I still can't handle hearing her fave karaoke song though, Careless Whisper by Wham, the lyrics are too painful ("...never going to dance again..."). But this song put a smile on my face for the first time since we lost her.

NO band has ever copied or ever will the style of CCR. WhoooWaaa!
John Fogerty is not only alive, he's on tour right now, ripping up his guitar with ease! Believe me, he can shred...but like everything else he does, he shreds tastefully. BTW: John was the singer, guitarist and songwriter of CCR; they were a tight band for sure (including his brother on rhythm guitar), but creatively, CCR was Fogerty. If you catch him on current tour, his band includes his sons. Two solo records you've got to check out: Centerfield and Revival (he rocks so hard and swampy on this record).
I think that the excellent bass from Stu Cook and Doug Clifford's perfect drumming are overlooked when placed against Fogerty's vocals and guitar work. Those two had this shit locked down tight. Also, Tom Fogerty's rhythm guitar just adds a layer that makes it perfect.

@@joelliebler5690 - This version showed the quality of musicianship in John Fogerty. He basically had every part already set with each song and forced the other members to play it "his way". That is what created so much animosity in the band. The band members were not great musicians by any stretch of the imagination. They sucked live for the most part unless they did it as John taught them and didn't deviate.
Next CCR song should be "Suzy Q" Long version. Easily in the top 3 of CCR's music catalogue. It is really an unbelievable song. It's right there with "Born on The Bayou." Thanks Fellas
This song is so good it makes me smile and cry at the same time. The first time I heard it in 1969 going over a 15,000 foot pass in the Rocky Mountains late at night, it was like magic. A whole car of people were going who the hell is this because we missed the first of it. A spiritual experience in the nighttime air.
"Ramble Tamble" is one of their little known , yet amazing songs from the same Cosmos album that will take you on a journey. It's the hidden gem in this classic album.
The thing about CCR that always gets me is that they can cover other peoples songs and not only show respect, but make it their own. Then comes the real thing, no-one seems to be able to successfully cover their with the same respect or creativity. Such an individual sound and not just the vocals!
It's Fogarty, he has his own sound, we called it Swamp rock, he created it.CCR every song was a hit it defined a new start to the 70's. Can you believe he wasn't allowed to sing his songs or have his unique sound for over 20yrs. He did "Centerfield " you knew was him.
If you met someone who didn't know anything about Rock & Roll, THIS is what you would play for them. When this came on the radio, we would stop making out, crank up the volume full blast, & dance in our seats.
I'm 72 and was your age when CCR was constantly pumping out these amazing albums. Tom Fogarty's vocals and guitar are so great. It really does my heart good to see younger generations like you digging this just as much as I did back in the day! Keep it up!
CCR make the song their own. What a wonderfully unique sound they produce. I never tire of listening to it and never will. Thanks for the great reaction, you have made my day.
Used to babysit, at age 13, for a couple that had this album. Couldn't wait for the kids to sleep so I could listen on the "hi-fi" , which we didn't have at home. Have loved this ever since.
I rate this as one of the greatest songs ever. This rendition blows everything out of the water. Heard when I was about 12 or 13 and still get excited today.

Agree 100%! As you probably know, crooked record execs actually sued John Fogerty because “The Old Man Down the Road,” written by Fogerty, sounded to them like CCR’s “Run Through the Jungle,” also written by Fogerty! They had previously acquired rights to CCR’s catalog, and went after him for copyright infringement. Fogerty and common sense prevailed after he performed both songs on his guitar in the courtroom! True story!
A masterpiece. The definitive version. John Fogerty - lead singer, lead songwriter and lead guitarist. The guy is a musical legend. More people should know his name.
I love how in this recording you can hear those moments where musicians look at eachother to change their shit up. When John starts going more ham on the guitar, you hear the rhythm section pick up or when things slow down you can hear those sneaky little bass licks get in. You can just imagine those guys in the studio looking at their friends and having a blast!
John Fogarty was the band's main songwriter, singer, and lead guitar. Tom Fogarty, his brother, played rhythm. John was supposed to be a very controlling pain in the ass, which led Tom to quit, and eventually broke up the band. I don't know if you've done Down on the Corner yet, but it was my favorite Creedence tune as a kid. Bad Moon Rising is also really good.
The band split things 4 ways evenly but John wrote the hits, played lead and sang! I'd be a bit controlling too. Most of the other members' song are weak sauce.
@@brianmiller1077 Yeah, can't argue with you. It's just a shame the group didn't last longer after they finally hit it big. Even John, who had a pretty good career post-Creedence, was never as good as when he was with the band. At least in my opinion he wasn't.

My brain was waiting for the 8 track to click to the next track. It didn’t fit on a single track and I heard it that way for years.
Classic! I have the same thing for some songs, but for me it's specific pops and cracks that were on my vinyl.
I had CCR on 8-track too. So funny.
Song starts to fade. Disappears. KA-CHUNK. Song fades up. Ah, I never would have thought then that the memory would make me smile so many years later. I had a different reaction to it back then…🤬😆
YES !!! ✌
So true
This was a straight masterpiece and a fantastic reaction 🔥
Now THIS is a GREAT Friday drop!!!!
CCR did a amazing job with this version!
Much love and respect to A&A, Mikey, Allison, Susan, Norman L, Vic, Peter Q,Lucie, Jessica H, Lisa W and if I missed anyone else just know I gots mad love and respect for you all. This is truly family to me.
☮️❤️♾️
Good morning, John!
❤🧡💛💚💙
Happy Friday, John! This is a pretty cool family! ☺️
Since we are family, can I borrow some money?
@@garyschill7923 I can I borrow your car?
Some you haven’t reacted too, Up Around The Bend, Down on the Corner, Lodi, Travelin’ Band, Hey Tonight, Someday Never Comes, Proud Mary..
John Fogerty is legendary, especially his voice.
This version showed the quality of musicianship by the band!
He still sounds great.
A swampy soul boy from San Francisco.
@@BobSoltis1 Good to know that because I had heard that they were average and o was surprised to hear how good they were on this cover!
Next CCR song should be "Suzy Q" Long version. Easily in the top 3 of CCR's music catalogue. It is really an unbelievable song. It's right there with "Born on The Bayou."
Thanks Fellas
Ho yeah that was the first song I heard from them got hook the first time!
Hope your brain was as high as the rest of you!
15k foot in what regard?
Rogers or Donner?
ANOTHER GREAT driving song !!!! Huge playlist of driving songs MUST include this.
John Fogerty is not just still alive, he's still rock'n!
The only US band that could compete at the time. And they did it so well.
You need to hit Up Around the Bend. It's a banger.
Yes, it is.
"Ramble Tamble" is one of their little known , yet amazing songs from the same Cosmos album that will take you on a journey. It's the hidden gem in this classic album.
Love that song. Cosmo's is by far my favorite Creedence album.
Hands down my favourite CCR Tune
John Fogerty is in his 70’s and still playing and singing better than ever
CCR is definitely in the top 5 american bands of all time.
I've got around twelve bands in my top five 8-P
The thing about CCR that always gets me is that they can cover other peoples songs and not only show respect, but make it their own. Then comes the real thing, no-one seems to be able to successfully cover their with the same respect or creativity. Such an individual sound and not just the vocals!
It's Fogarty, he has his own sound, we called it Swamp rock, he created it.CCR every song was a hit it defined a new start to the 70's. Can you believe he wasn't allowed to sing his songs or have his unique sound for over 20yrs. He did "Centerfield " you knew was him.
Some people say that Tina Turner's cover of "Proud Mary" was better than CCR's. I don't agree, but it is a popular opinion.
"Cosmo's Factory" was such a good record, start to finish. Sooo good!
No one has suggested "Run Through the Jungle"? Same album!
Cool bobble-heads. The figures on the table are nice too.
Those saying CCR needs to be retired is the most smdh comment I’ve seen in a while. How they’re not drinking up all that swamp sauce, I’ll never know.
CCR has like 40 songs that need to be listened to ...no need to retire quite yet.
Sheer idiocy. They haven’t even made a dent.
Amen, Brother!
If you met someone who didn't know anything about Rock & Roll, THIS is what you would play for them. When this came on the radio, we would stop making out, crank up the volume full blast, & dance in our seats.
" I Put a Spell on You " his vocals and guitar are insane 😳😁✌️♥️ my bad y'all already done it I shall chastise myself accordingly 🤣
Down on the Corner. As John Fogerty might say: “Do it! Do it! Do it!”
Green River, Susie Q and/or Proud Mary. I can't think of one bad song from CCR, though.
I'm 72 and was your age when CCR was constantly pumping out these amazing albums. Tom Fogarty's vocals and guitar are so great. It really does my heart good to see younger generations like you digging this just as much as I did back in the day! Keep it up!
John
@@philweiand4564 Yeah, that's what I meant...wait till you get 18,000+ more hours on your brain and you'll call him Tom too! ;-)
@@nebbindog6126 Cool. I got this album for my 13th birthday. My first rock album.
I rate this as one of the greatest songs ever. This rendition blows everything out of the water. Heard when I was about 12 or 13 and still get excited today.
I Love!!! Because you did Marvin Gaye's version, went back and Played CCR' s greatest hits album and Rocked Out. Oh the power of music 🎵🎶🎵 Thank you Andy&Alex. Oops it's the Album your showing right there "Revival"
The whole Cosmos Factory album needs a listen. Next cut should be Ramble Tamble.
John Fogerty's " The Old man Down the Road" is a swamp rock masterpiece. Great - but old - video, too.
True story!
thanks for reminding me of that song - now I can almost smell the swamp and think I see a Hoodoo
Longest amp chord in history...😂🤣
"He wasn't shredding, but he *was* going off."
Can't go wrong with CCR. Every time I hear one of their oldies again I remember how good they were.
"Long As I Can See the Light" brings a CCR groove you haven't experienced yet. C'mon, Guys....you NEED that one!
Truth!
You guys need to listen to Ramble Tamble... talk about gettin lost in the sauce!
FOgherty had a great solo career as well. You should check out some of his hits. "Centerfield" is a great one
Marvin Gaye’s original was very polished and smooth, and then CCR roughed it up and threw a little mud on it, and I like it…..a lot!!
They put the STANK on it.
Original was done by Gladys Knight and the Pips. Marvin covered it a year later.
I just saw Fogerty a year ago in Vegas. Bill Walton was there too! For insane guitar try “Put A Spell On You”, the old Jay Hawkins blues classic.
I believe they did CCR's version of "I Put a Spell on You"
@@cazgerald9471 , thanks, I just went back and listened so thanks for the heads up!
A masterpiece. The definitive version. John Fogerty - lead singer, lead songwriter and lead guitarist. The guy is a musical legend. More people should know his name.
That was a totally welcome trip down memory lane! High school, cruising the drag. Top down, Credence blasting from my 8 track!
🎸🤘🌞🎶🎶🎶
LOVING the new hair length. Looks fantastic! 💇🏻♂️
For a good time listen to their Midnight Special.
