Steamdeck OLED and Switch OLED use basically the same screen, when Wulf Den did the Switch OLED burn-in test it took 10,000 hours to see significant signs of burn-in, meanwhile when Phawx did a Steamdeck burn it test it only took around 1,000 to see burn in. I was wondering how you think of the text size situation with steam deck. I use a steam deck LCD and I’ve played about 15 games on it, and about half games have this text size issue. With text being too small and UI scaling designed without considering portable form factor, it causes significant eye strain for me with only an hour of gaming or less. I find it pretty frustrating as a lot of the games runs really well performance wise, but turns out to be unplayable for me because of text size, and that account for nearly half of the games that I’ve tried so far. One great example is Monster Hunter World. I love this game, but I can’t play it because of this issue.
Yeah, that is still a problem. In some cases, you can toggle magnifier by pressing Steam+LB, but it doesn't work well if you need to read something in the midst of action.
The eye strain was bad for me too. Got to the point where I wouldn't use it anymore because after playing on it, my vision would go blurry for awhile which sucked. Ended up buying some cheap reading glasses and no longer have that issue.
@@ReluctantAnarchisttrue. I tried to find solution but it seems that unless there’s a good in game option that can improve this significantly, there seems to be no other way. For games like monster hunter world, it’s just such a shame. I guess the best case we can hope for is for such a form factor to gain more and more steam, enough to get the attention of game developers so that they put extra work into optimising for portable machines.
@@leeleo9615 It really helped with eye strain. It makes the screen look a little bit bigger. I noticed 2.5x I had to hold the screen a bit closer for it to focus. I also tried with 1.75 which lets you have it a bit further way. It's hard to say if it will help you out at all, since our eyes are different. Reading glasses are very cheap so it wasn't bad to experiment.
I’ve finished my brief affair with the ROG Ally. I feel like I’ve been having a dirty relationship with it! I’m selling it now and going back to Steam Deck
Sold my Steam deck after getting the Ally. Its just far better in many ways. The sound is at least twice as good and games run more smooth. All games work on the Ally because they were made to run on windows. The Rog Ally 2 will be out shortly to keep it in the lead.
Battery life sucks on the Ally. Plus you have all the negatives of Windows like the annoying updates and the tinkering. Steam OS is far superior in terms of UI and door to window time of gaming. And their customer service is horrendous. The Steam community experience is miles better.
A buddy finally put windows on his steam deck so he could play cod online. I took the oled steam deck to work and someone brought the ally. We had like 5 people buy the ally. No one really liked the steamdeck. I work with windows so it’s easy for me to use the ally. It’s worth a little extra time. I am getting the Ally x with double battery life.
your lack of article use in english is not only jarring and difficult to listen to, but despite this, is still an excellent comparison, thanks for your input!
Also if you decide to upgrade don't forget about mura effect on oled screens. It's very noticeable on the steam deck oled. Also there is green tint when you are caping the frame rate below 90hz, it's noticeable in low light environment and dark scenes. It also has problems with my wifi 6 router, and the original doesn't. Also there is static noise when you use wired headphones through 3.5 minijack. Oled model is not perfect just remember that, think twice when upgrading. Your review is good but you didn't say anything about that and im pretty disappointed
@@shto4782 The mura effect is so negligible, you really hardly see it. Valve uses OLED panels from two different manufacturers, Samsung and BOA. Mine is Samsung I definitely can't have any complaint about it, not even the greenish tint as you wrote above. Maybe BOA has some problems... In addition, a mura effect reduction is already introduced in the upcoming update.

1. Touchpads. Can't play any strategy games without them. 2. The OS really is a game changer. I thought that the other handhelds like the ROG Ally were better because of more power and Windows. But after I played just a day on the Steam Deck that a friend of mine owns I now have a permanent desire to buy this thing, despite its low specs. Steam OS and touchpads and perfectly tuned Deck controller layouts from the gamemakers and community alike really make an absolute fuckton of difference. I'm a busy adult. The ability to press just one button and be back in a videogame after taking a 2 hour break to do adult stuff... and having lost 0 battery life from being in this sleep state... it's a lot!

@@MBTCxGrouP forsure i was just giving a different perspective of someone in a different situation. In the end we all win when the competition is this good 🤙🏾
Great review
0:27 JESUS CHRIST HOW BIG ARE YOUR HANDS-
Is OLED really susceptible to burn in still?
I thought it was just an issue with new technology and was supposed to be resolved years ago.
I wish gog would make official deck support. Though i have zero knowledge if that is even possible.
what game is at 5:30? edit: rogue prince of persia
the only reason i haven't upgraded is that i don't really play that much because i don't have a lot of time for games. so the cost is kind of not justified for me because of that. but the upgrades you get with the oled are very good, if i was playing it more, i probably would have upgraded on day one
Smartphone: 3+ colour options
Steam deck: Black or Black
@@jas0x139 how does the reading glass approach work for you?
@@leeleo9615 It really helped with eye strain. It makes the screen look a little bit bigger. I noticed 2.5x I had to hold the screen a bit closer for it to focus. I also tried with 1.75 which lets you have it a bit further way.
It's hard to say if it will help you out at all, since our eyes are different. Reading glasses are very cheap so it wasn't bad to experiment.
I’ve finished my brief affair with the ROG Ally. I feel like I’ve been having a dirty relationship with it! I’m selling it now and going back to Steam Deck
I hope they don't mess the next dexk up. All they have to do is figure out how to make it as powerful ass the Rog Ally x. In my opinion
Its not hard. And performance race is not whats expecting from Valva.
Guys plzzzzz help me imcompletly new to this
Rally x or the oled? Having trouble deciding
@@BaNeArroWfr
true. just that we have so much bad experience in windows breaking stuff every update.
A buddy finally put windows on his steam deck so he could play cod online. I took the oled steam deck to work and someone brought the ally. We had like 5 people buy the ally. No one really liked the steamdeck. I work with windows so it’s easy for me to use the ally. It’s worth a little extra time. I am getting the Ally x with double battery life.
love your videos :)
some anti-cheat games still a problem to get the SD, otherwise will be the best handheld
Is it still possible to run windows in any way on the oled?
Anyone know the name of that dungeon crawler type game he was playing? Thanks
What were the games you played starting at 2:06 ?
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun
Who's idea was it to create such a wonderful handheld then install the same processor as my Microwave Oven?
It's not weak. Modern game developers became lazy.
We need windows audio drivers!
He's not talking about this in the video.
I totally bought the OLED just to play Windows games in it, so disappointed, I'll have to return it.
Is no one else having problems with the internet connection, I can't connect to my wifi with my new OLED😔.
Good video
what is the name of the game playing at 00:19
this
Hi. Is this steam deck oled 512gb?
Does anyone know what ARPG top down he is playing? The one that kinda looks like diablo 2
Diablo IV lol
For sure getting one of these for handheld gaming instead of whatever nintendo puts out next.
Damn I want to sell my LCD to get OLED now thanks
At least the LCD work audio on Windows.
OLED is an unfinished product.
0:18 what game is this?

Ok mustache, tell me what you think.
@6:10 name of the game?

Должен сказать, что русский акцент почти не слышно. Отличное произношение

i want STEAM on ARM 😭
your lack of article use in english is not only jarring and difficult to listen to, but despite this, is still an excellent comparison, thanks for your input!
None of the problems you describe are occurring on my 1TB OLED. Maybe I'm just lucky, I'm very happy with it and enjoy it every day.
@@lukasmacoun2605 its not uncommon problems. Also any oled screen have aura, you just don't see it it seems.
@@lukasmacoun2605 but it will not fix the green tint which I consider the biggest problem with this oled panel. Mine is also Samsung.
@@shto4782 I have also read about these various problems. Interesting, I've never encountered either the green tint or any of the other problems people are pointing out. My eyesight is fine, at least you can trust me on that :) Maybe I just got very lucky on a really good piece of deck. :)
aleey rog is way better because you can play any game unlike the steam deck
The ability to press just one button and be back in a videogame after taking a 2 hour break to do adult stuff... and having lost 0 battery life from being in this sleep state... it's a lot!
@@machinerin151 explaining all that to a kid that can't even spell the word Ally is honestly not worth it man 😂
