Brit here. About 20 years ago I was in Ystad, Sweden. While I was there, I saw there was a ferry going to Bornholm, somewhere I'd never even heard of. My curiosity had me making a mental note that one day I HAD to go there! It took me 12 years to actually arrange that visit, but about eight years ago I found myself booking flights there from London via Copenhagen. I was absolutely blown away by the island, it was well worth the wait! Just beautiful! 😊
What an awesome story! So cool that you actually booked the flight and made the voyage out to Bornholm 🙌 You Brits have some stunning nature so I'm glad you also enjoyed Bornholm 🇩🇰
Same! My paternal ancestral line comes from Bornholm. The original spelling of my maiden name is Kofoed-cow’s hoof! My Danish ancestors were diary farmers. My father recently passed, and I want to visit Bornholm to follow up on genealogy he worked on in his lifetime. The island is beautiful!
This summer I visited Bornholm for the first time in 16 years. I can’t believe it took me this long to revisit. Most beautiful of the danish island by a large margin. Fantastic place to hike, bike and even hitch hike (at least if you are a native Dane)
Thanks for your comment! I totally agree 🙌 I'm so lucky that my girlfriend has family in Bornholm so I get to go every summer. Good point about hitch hiking actually - perhaps I should've talked a bit more in the video about how small the island actually is.
Hi from Minnesota, USA. To start with, I think Minnesota's North Shore heading north from Duluth along Lake Superior is super nice. It reminds me of Bornholm. I have been to Bornholm many times as my father-in-law was from Nexo. And his father was a doctor there. Dueodde beach is wonderful as you say, but we go to Balka as that is where Doctor Boesen's beach shack still stands. Thanks for the Bornholm video, now I need to go back. I only made it as far as Copenhagen this past April with my wife and three daughters visiting first cousins. Thanks for the video.
Great video! My wife is from Svaneke in Bornholm. We met in Mallorca 6 years ago and got married 2 years ago. (I am English). We spend a good chunk of summer in Bornholm every year (in fact we were there when you were! It's also pretty good for all kinds of cycling.
Oh, that's lovely! Having family in Bornholm feels like such a cheat code (my girlfriend is from there, too). Good point in regards to cycling - I want to spend 2-3 weeks just biking around Bornholm some time.
@@destinationwellknown I highly recommend Bornholm for cycling, especially the Northern part. If you use Strava you can see my rides there in July under Andrew Cyclespeed Bernard.
A great guide. Had one of my best holidays visiting Bornholm. Amazing variety of scenery. One of the many highlights was a springtime walk along the cliffs to the Art Museum, blustery weather, dramatically fabulous.
Thanks a lot! That sounds like a lovely day. I've only been to Bornholm in the summertime actually, but I'd imagine it's also quite interesting to see in the autumn or even winter if we're lucky enough to get a bit of snow 🙌
Fantastic vlog, Kris. Luv the honesty. Denmark is really looking like a cool place. Totally with you on the no spider 🕷️ thing. 😂 Be well and stay safe. 😊
Thanks a lot for the support, Paul 🙌 Hahaha, yeah I couldn't believe how chilled people were - seeing the spiders was definitely on their Bornholm bucket list 😬

I have a few ancestors who were born there, never heard of it until I found that out! Very cool.
Bornholm is a pretty cool place to have ancestry 😎

Helpful vidéo thanks!! I will be going and stay in Rønne 😅 booked before seeing this, any recommendations for that place?
Thank you! Oh damn 😅 There’s a nearby beach called Fosforitten that is really good - and the nachos at Gustavs are supposed to be amazing 😀

@@destinationwellknown ha ha ha it takes all sorts.
Came here because Cole Sonne (TH-camr: Sonne Farms) mentioned his great grandfather immigrated from here to South Dakota.
That's two pretty different parts of the World 😀
