    IMPORTANT INFO regarding the train: in this video, I state that you can get any train from platform 2 if your destination is Copenhagen Central Station. That is no longer the case - there are now a couple of trains every hour that do NOT stop at the Central Station.
    Most trains do, but make sure you check the screens before boarding the train 🤝

    The Central Station has a lot of charm. Cleaner and safer than in some Belgian Railways Stations.
    At the end I used my CPH card during my first visit in July 2023. And the metro has easier, arrived nearly closed to the hotel 🙂

    It seems the DOT Tickets app also is usable for visitors (no requirement for a national phone number like such apps used to have - I was able to use my Norwegian one for registering), like buying a City Pass if you are staying a few days and want the freedom to just jump on and off local transport. So even less reasons to use the ticket machines unless you want a souvenir :)

    The City Pass is really convenient and so easy to take from the airport terminal. We would definitely say the metro but if you land at night be careful, they sometimes close the metro for a couple of hours (maintenance) and they especially don't communicate that in their app or website 😉.

    Hi Chris! Thanks for this visual guide! I'll be flying into CPH with a 3.5 hour layover so I'm researching how to take the Metro toward Nyhavn via Kongens Nytorv, take selfies along the canal, and then ride back toward the airport for my onward flight to Dublin. It'll be my very first time in Denmark, ever! And it wasn't even supposed to happen, but SAS unceremoniously modified my layover (was ARN, now CPH). Pretty good stuff, I just have some extra tips and corrections that might be useful. So if you're going into Copenhagen then AVOID THE TRAIN TO SLAGELSE! Not many people know about this, but recently a new train line was introduced which runs only once every hour from Copenhagen Airport to Slagelse. This train completely bypasses downtown Copenhagen, running non stop from Ørestad on the southern end of Amager, to Høje Taastrup, a transit hub at the edge of the suburbs. So be sure you avoid any train saying Slagelse on it.
    Secondly, you can actually as a tourist get your own Travelcard if you're for instance staying for a few days and will be using transit periodically, like not enough to warrant Citypass daytickts, or maybe wanting more flexibility. At machines like the one in the middle of the corridor at 4:24, you can actually get your own Travel card. It requires a 50kr deposit to be preloaded onto the card, but after that you receive your very own card and can benefit from the discounted ticket prices that come with it. Just be sure to load enough money onto it that you don't run out mid journey, which can be done at the same machines.
    If you use the Travel card though, be sure you tap check out at the end of your trip but only the very end. The way it works is you hold it on the Blue check in orbs when starting your trip, as well as tap it on check in orbs for every time you transfer to another bus, train, or metro line. And only at the end you tap it at the check out orb and your fare will be calculated. That way if you for instance take a 3 zone trip with a transfer in the middle, you pay for one 3 zone ticket rather than two separate 2 zone tickets. And with the Rejsekort, that can be the difference between 23 kroner and 33 kroner so theres a lot of money to be saved there.

    • @destinationwellknown
      @destinationwellknown  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks a lot for your comment! I just checked, and you're right about the train to Slagelse - I had never heard of this or seen it at the station. Great info, thanks!
      You're also totally right about the Travel Card. I deliberately left that info out of this video as I didn't want to make our confusing public transport ticket options seem even more complicated for tourists who are just here for a few days. But perhaps that's an idea for another video.
      Thanks for your super helpful comment 🙌

    • @epender
      @epender ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm quite familiar with Denmark, but I think that the airport trains can be confusing to tourists as to which trains actually go via the city centre.
      At least they only seem to go as far as Østerport now, whereas before they used to go to Nivå and Helsingør, as if any foreigners will know where that is! Heck, even Østerport and København H on the destination board would stump some tourists who don't do their research.

    • @epender
      @epender ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Also I would not really recommended Rejsekort/travel card for short-term tourists. The anonymous cards, the only real choice for tourists, cost 80 kroner and require a 70 kroner minimum balance, and that's per traveller. This goes up to a whopping 600 kroner should you wish to travel outside of Sjælland.
      Yes you can get this balance refunded (apparently), and yes, a trip on this card is cheaper than buying a single ticket, but in my eyes, with the high amount of trips a tourist might make, and with all the hassle involved with getting and using a Rejsekort, you're better off getting a City Pass if you're only visiting for ~a week.

    I went to Copenhagen about 7 years ago from London. The area around the ticket machines was a total mess with building work but there were plenty of assistants on hand who spoke English to help me. I took the train, no delays, and my hotel was about 5 minutes walk from the central station so it was a short and easy trip. If go again, I'd like to try the metro but it may depend on where my hotel is. You should also mention the Blue Planet Aquarium near the airport. Maybe the metro wasn't build when I was there becasue I had to take quite a long bus ride to get there but looking just now, there is a metro stop fairly close by

    • @destinationwellknown
      @destinationwellknown  ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Both Metro and Train to and from the Airport are painfree. The Metro is so easy to use, no barriers because Denmark is civilised and everyone understands if they a caught travelling without a ticket it's a hefty fine! Unlike New York or London where fare evaders are rife and just give fake addresses when caught or pretend 'me no speak English' when only moments before there were into their iPhones communicating quite adequately! You see it all then time. The Copenhagen metro being so new has been really well planned with elevators from platform to street level in mosts cases (I haven't visited every station). Not having to struggle with tickets and barriers make it a breeze. I got the train back to the airport from central Station purely to avoid the 'really very easy' interchange at Kongens Nytorv. Copenhagen is a joy! Other cities take note!

Make sure u have bought the correct tickets as the security guards are always around. and will fine you around 700 kroner per person. For the best coffee in town drop in at Kongeshave Kafferiet. tiny little place on the corner of the Kings gardens ,located in one of the old guard houses at one of the entrances to the gardens , where the old palace is. Worth a look and you can sit outside and even if lucky watch the guards in full uniform with headgear and playing music march past.

    Copenhagen trainstation is a historic station dated back to 1847. Looking at the scale of how many people going trough this great hall visiting Copenhagen, i'd like everybody watching this, exhale and wonder. Wonder about how they this wonderfull building was build in the late 1900 century. It is the only way we ignorant people of today, has a chance to see what history made possible. Just stop for 5 seconds. Look up, all handmaid. That is what exploration is about.

      Yes, when I lived in Copenhagen I often did it (not to the the centre, but to my flat close to Lergravsparken metro station on Amager).
      And I liked the way, sometimes along "Amager Strand", sometimes more inland close to metro.

      I wouldn't take a bus from the airport to Nørrebro. You can take the metro to Kongens Nytorv and change to the circle line that runs to Nørrebro Station - the total travel time here is only around 30 minutes.
      You could take the 5C bus directly from the airport to Nørrebro, but it'd take about 1 hour. This is, however, the slowest route into town, and the traffic can be pretty bad.

    Hi,
    I also lived in Copenhagen but this Metro option is only good if you do not have luggage. Then it's recomended otherwise I will always prefer to take taxi as it is easy to take and at right on my door I will be in 20 minutes without any hactic of rolling my luggage all the way. Thanks

    As a Copenhagener for the last 10 years I agree, metro all day long. If you do take the train though be careful you go to the correct platform or you'll end up in Sweden 😅 Side note: I've even cycled to the airport a couple of times, which is pretty cool (without a suitcase of course)

    This is so helpful. I was trying to figure out how to do that ride. I'll have the Discovery Card so I assume I can skip the ticket machine and just show the card/app if asked? And, arriving with a small suitcase and staying near (west) of Central Station, still recommended to take the metro and make the transfer to the other line vs direct train? I'll be arriving at airport on a weekday around 2:30pm in a couple of weeks.

    Studied here back in the early 2010s and remember being totally confused at CPH with the bewildering to foreigners klippkort system.
    But alas, the friendliness of Danish folks there never failed us as we were guided by strangers all the way to Lyngby.

    • @destinationwellknown
      @destinationwellknown  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Joseph. Thank you very much! Depending on the time of the day you're here, I'd recommend taking the metro to Nørreport, where you'll find Torvehallerne, a food market hall. Get some food there and then walk through the Inner City to Rundetårn (The Round Tower), go up there and get an epic view of the city. From there, you can go to Nyhavn, enjoy the scenery, and jump on a canal cruise for 1 hour. Perhaps get some more food/coffee/drinks and then get the metro back to the airport from Kongens Nytorv.
      Hope that helps 🇩🇰

    Nice video.
    Maybe a little unfair to describe the Copenhagen TAXIs as extraordinary expensive. Compared to train, metro and bus, yes it is expensive. But I travel frequently in the US, and I find the TAXIs as expensive over there. In Denmark we don't tip the driver, and the taxis are nice and clean and well maintained and you always can use your credit card.
    In the US you have to tip the driver a considerably percentage of the fare, and taxis are not always that clean and well maintained...

    Cool. Going to Copenhagen next month. So the ticket you buy at the red train ticket machines, you can use on the train or on the metro? Is there a round trip option? And does that have an expiration? (Only in Copenhagen for the weekend). Tak!

      Hi there. If you're buying the CPH Card in the app, you must activate it in the app.
      Here's the info from their website: "If you purchase through the website you will receive an order number in your email. To redeem the card in the app you enter the order number. The card(s) will then appear ready for activation.
      If you purchase through the app the card will appear immediately - ready for activation.
      Please remember to activate your card before entering an attraction/public transport. The hours start counting from time of activation."

I found an all day tour on Viator that may be interesting. Thanks for any suggestions.
