World Mechanics please I have a problem with my BMW E46 N42 320i 2003 ... the transmission light comes on at speed 3 when I drive my car after it’s being stop for more than an hour ,,, when the light come on I immediately turn the car Off for less than a minute, after that I start again and it goes well all the way , and it does not happen again until the car stops for more than hour. Let me add to the list of thank you’s! My mechanic told me it was the starter and possibly even the engine locked up. I paid him for his diagnostic test and told him what I found out from looking at your video. He told me with no hesitation and with a look of disgust. “ That is not the problem I’m telling you it’s the starter” In front of him I pulled out the relay and reinstalled it and the my car started right up. Now he’s asking me what relay I removed for future repairs on other vehicles. Thank you! You saved me tons of money on unnecessary work.

Have 2009, 328i, 96k. Drove all day then stopped one last stop, 10 min. Boom, no start. Tried jumping. Only dash lights, interiors, beeping doors but no start. Got towed to garage. was starter . Replaced & Back on the road! :)
I have this problem now but 2015 model f34 and doors beeping won’t lock, telling me that battery is now quick drain, interior lights and radio etc all working but when I click to start it just makes a single clunk.

Here's my story so make sure you sit next to a fire pit 😅 - I remember moving my 330xi back and forth one day it was parked and I just literally moved it forth and back, wile the car was working just fine prior to this, the next day I tried moving it to go somewhere, it didn't wanted to start, no crank, no start, all it did was like a metallic cranking sound, I went into trusty TH-cam and found this video, tried everything as shown here and nothing worked, called a mechanic, he came and checked it... He told me the starter had just died. Same week I buy the starter and call another mechanic to get it installed for me... When he finished working on the starter to my surprise in the process of mounting and fixing the starter, bunch of hoses from the ccv were now broken or lose, so I now had to replace those as well.... Bought the lower ccv hose and the upper ccv hose, bought also one hose from the breather line that sits just right on top of the alternator, so now fast forward, I bought everything, put everything back together, and for my surprise... Battery just died on me also... Now I'm just waiting til tomorrow, cuz since everything is coronized now businesses closes early, to get a new battery. Like I read on a comment. BMW stands for "Break My Wallet". So for those of who this method worked. I hate you.

I have a 2009 BMW 328i and I had the same problem, car ran great and went it to start it and nothing just a click. I researched the bmw forem and found no answer so I changed the relay start fuse and still nothing I charged the battery and still nothing, tried jump starting the car and nothing, all the light worked fine too, so I pulled the starter and had it checked at a o Reilly’s store and it failed so I put in a new starter and she started right up! I hope this helps someone with the same problems.

@@alhasnabukres9877 is not the reley… starter needs to change , Im from sweden and i know one site you can buy a new starter for only 80💲 and this is easy to change you dont need to go somwhere and pay mutch 👍
Wow, my neighbor told me about the relay and I didn’t believe him but now I’m going to attempt. I had the car in the shop. I paid three grand to take it out and after a month it would not turn on only crank. My 335D would shut off every five minute until I made it back home. I shall try this. Any other advise I will take?
2007 328xi wouldn't start yesterday after thousands of good starts. Push button nothing. Lights on and off but no power going to the starter. Watched this video and bought a relay, replaced it and the car started. Let it run for a few minutes and then turned it off and immediately tried to restart. No start. Push button no power to starter. Felt the relay and it was warm not molten hot by any means but noticably warm. Any tips on where to go now? I will test the new and old relay tomorrow.
So I tried with two other relays and didn't work still , I think it's a starter it was straggling to turn over for months so I think it's a starter will try again. And let you know
I have a BMW N54. The last time this happened, it was my battery. I replaced that, and it's been about a year now and now it's doing it again. My car didn't start when i shut it off at a light a couple days ago. I heard a clicking noise So I'm convinced it was the starter. I just changed the starter, and now there is no clicking noise but it still won't start. All my lights are on so the battery is good. I'm gonna unplug this relay out and in again and see what happens, I'm also going to replace the battery in my key since it was low a couple weeks ago. I will come back with an update!
Guys, I found the problem. I changed my relay, my key battery, I tested my battery, I changed the relay, I changed the starter. None of this worked! It turns out it was my GROUND STRAP underneath driver's side, going from body to the engine. The engine was not getting ground, the strap was all corroded and literally broke by just touching it. I changed it with one from the auto parts store and my car started right back up! If you tried hooking up cables to jump start your car, and nothing happens (even if your lights turn on on the dash) Then you need to check your ground strap!! I should have started with that first and saved me hundreds of bucks. Hope this helps someone before you go changing parts.

In a BMW 2011 328i xdrive, removing the "Kl." relay also caused the glovebox light to turn off, so that could be an indicator of a bad relay, without needing any test equipment.

Initially I got no crank on pressing the start button, I removed the relay and tried to start sometime and then put the relay back and I was greeted with multiple failure messages. @@MalucciPugh I replaced the relay but it did not work for me. I sold that BMW, the buyer later updated me that he replaced the starter and its working. Later I realised that couple of days before it stopped working It happened that I took the car in the flood water.. I think the flood water damaged the starter.
My issue is I changed the alternator and charged up the battery and it acts as though it wants to start but it doesn't. Please help me because my mechanic says it's not the starter.

Looking for some guidance. Same thing happened to me where the car would not start, after a few minutes the car did start with out doing anything. However, I also noticed the time on the radio got reset? Does this mean anything else?

If you are hearing a clicking from the starter motor when you turn the key though, it means it is getting power. If that’s the case it probably wouldn’t be the relay or immobiliser.

In a BMW 2011 328i xdrive, removing the "Kl." relay also caused the glovebox light to turn off, so that could be an indicator of a bad relay, without needing any test equipment.
I noticed my glove box light turn off after I removed relay then turn back on after but now my dash isn't lighting up and car won't start

I have a 2009 bmw 328i. It died one day and it wouldn't do absolutely anything. Wouldn't jump. Wouldn't turn over. I assumed starter. But right after I purchased a starter, it started working...I replaced the battery and the ibs sensor. Now it cranks strong, but won't start, no codes.

I have 2008 BMW 335xi. Initially I got no crank on pressing the start button, I removed the relay and tried to start sometime and then put the relay back and I was greeted with multiple failure messages. Airbag failure, ABS failure, Break failure and what not. I am going to order the relay and replace. Please advise.

@@MalucciPugh I replaced the relay but it did not work for me. I sold that BMW, the buyer later updated me that he replaced the starter and its working. Later I realised that couple of days before it stopped working It happened that I took the car in the flood water.. I think the flood water damaged the starter.

It ended up being my starter motor, I had it replaced for $480. Auto classic was quoting $1600!

I was hoping the same, I was also advised to try a spare key as it may have been the immobiliser. Wasn’t in my case but may be worth a try?
If you are hearing a clicking from the starter motor when you turn the key though, it means it is getting power. If that’s the case it probably wouldn’t be the relay or immobiliser.
Just pressing on those thing there solved the issue. Is there anything i should do? Replace? Im not very technical.
